SPEAKER_02

Welcome to Anchored in Grace. I am Eric.

SPEAKER_00

And I'm Sharif. If you're listening today as a husband, a wife, or someone preparing for marriage, I want you to know you're in the right place. We believe that the more you know God, the more you learn and the more you love each other. And one of the most beautiful ways God makes himself known is through his names. Each one a window into his heart, his character, and his personality.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen to that.

SPEAKER_00

So we're gonna open up with a prayer. So, Father, we welcome you. You are the Lord who will provide in Genesis 22 and 14. You are the Lord who heals Exodus 15 and 26. You are our peace, Judges 6 and 24. As we talk, shape our hearts, guide couples listings, lift burdens, heal wounds, bring your presence close, presence close to each other, God. Lord Jesus, bring our shepherds in Psalms 23 and 1. Holy Spirit, light our path, Psalms 27 and 1. Make our homes a place of refuge. Psalms 91 and 2. And we ask, in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

SPEAKER_02

And amen to that.

SPEAKER_00

All right.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. In Scripture, God introduced introduces Himself not with a resume, but with the names that carry stories. Jehovah Jirah, the Lord who provides. Jehovah Shalom, the Lord of peace. El Roy, the God who sees. Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals. El Shaddai, the all significant one, Jehovah Nisi, our banner and victory. They aren't just titles, they are invitations. As we learn who God is through names, we stop asking our spouse to be what only God can be, and we start becoming that kind of partner, partner, the kind of partners who reflect Him. We want to reflect God personalities through those names. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

That's good. And you know, when you feel financial strain pressing on your home, Jehovah Jai reminds you that provision in God's roles first. You know, so you can face challenges as a team instead of as opponents. That's super important. And when tensions rise and words come out sharp, Jehovah Shalom whispers peace into the room you share, quieting the needs the need to win and making space to listen. When one of you feels overlooked or misunderstood, El Roy says, I see you. And suddenly compassion grows. When wounds, old or new, ache in your marriage, Jehovah Raphae meets you there and the healing become a journey you walk together as a couple. And so, you know, when you feel empty, running off fumes, El Shaddai speaks sufficiency over your home, freeing you from demanding that your spouse feel that only God can fill. And I know we all have been there before, right?

SPEAKER_02

All the time, all the time. And, you know, he's a wonder. The more we recognize the many facets of God's personality, the more patient we become with the many facets of our spouse's personality. And that's real. The more I learn about God's personality, it helps me to understand more about my wife and how God makes us, because God is the one who makes everybody. And he shapes us in his image. You know what I mean? So I I learn a lot about my spouse. If God holds tender mercy and firm truth in the same heart, maybe our partners' different ways of processing, protecting, or pursuing aren't obstacles. They are gifts we're learning to understand. God will give each one of us gifts. And sometimes those gifts and our minds, we can create them and think that you know what my wife has or what my husband has is something that causes me problems, but they are things that could be there to refine you as a person, to help you grow. You know, and that's something that I'm learning. You know, the challenge, you know, my wife challenges me. That challenge is a good thing because that challenge refines me as a man. It helps me to grow closer, it helps me to prepare for things, you know. Knowing God's names helps us knowing God's names helps us name what's really happening in our hearts. I'm afraid, I'm peace, I need peace, I want to be seen. And when and when we can name it before God, we can share it with each other without shame, which is a big important thing.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. That's good. So today we're going to explore the names of God and practice inviting him in by name into the real places of marriage, the kitchen table, the calendar, the bills, the late night worries, the laughter, the silence, right? 'Cause silence, you know, sometimes is one of those places, right, that we can get into and we're like, why is it so quiet? You know, and that's sometimes when God really wants us to call upon him.

SPEAKER_03

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so we'll learn simple ways to pray God's names over your spouses. Um, to bless them with a part of God's heart they need most to to in the moment and to become more effective partners because you're anchored in who God is.

SPEAKER_02

And I love what you said there, to pray God's heart and to pray that that part of God's that that part of uh of of that part of God's heart they need the most in that moment.

SPEAKER_04

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_02

You know what I mean?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

That that God would give that to them.

SPEAKER_04

Right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, we all need a part of God's heart at any given moment in our life. Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

To be better. You know what I mean? Over time. Because you're you're young in marriage, you can be older in marriage, being married. Um, and there's different times of life, the thing different things you go through in life, right? So that's those different moments. And I was praying the need the most what they need the most in for their heart is so important. You know.

SPEAKER_02

And we're just human and our hearts do harden at times. And and we need to soften those hearts at times. Yep.

SPEAKER_00

And that's where grace comes in.

SPEAKER_02

Grace.

SPEAKER_00

I went through a season where I had to learn about grace. You taught me that.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen. God's grace.

SPEAKER_00

But I made it through.

SPEAKER_02

God's grace is a beautiful thing. So it is. Yes, it is. So let's take a breath. Right where you are, whisper, God, be who you are in my marriage. As we begin, may the God who provides, who brings peace, who sees, who heals, and who is enough to draw you close to Himself. And in that closeness, close to each other. Amen?

SPEAKER_01

Amen. I like it.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen. So why the names of God matter in marriage? So in scripture, uh, names of God reveal God's character. When we pray God's names, we're anchoring our trust to his re to his revealed nature. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Amen. I like that. And marriage also runs on trust. Because in Ecclesiastes 4 and 12 it says, a cord of three strands is not quickly broken. When God is the third strand, your love gains strength, forgiveness, and endurance.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. That's that's powerful. A cord of three.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, because it's having that extra cord, that cord that God is in your life strengthens you. Yeah. And makes your cord stronger.

SPEAKER_00

That's right. Can't do it. That's the two of you.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Colossians 3, 13 through 14 reminds us to forgive and to put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. God name God's names shows us how He loves. So we can love like Him. And that's our goal. We want to learn to love like God loves.

SPEAKER_01

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Alright. So we're gonna get into five deep dive names and how to use them. Amen. Okay. So the first one is Jehovah Jirah. The Lord will provide. Love that one. Genesis 22 and 14. But I think that's one a lot of us struggle with, you know. Um, which I'll speak on is because what is the first thing? Chaos happens. What happens? Oh my gosh, my kids, oh my goodness, I can't pay this bill. Oh, I'm about to lose my house.

SPEAKER_02

Yep.

SPEAKER_00

Oh my goodness, what's going on?

SPEAKER_02

I gotta let go from the job.

SPEAKER_00

Let go from my job, we gotta furload, whatever, right? Um, we have to know that God has a purpose, right? He has a plan, he has a master plan, and the Lord will provide. He always does. Is Jehovah Jireh. Amen. But God wants us to trust him. But how many times, how many listeners out there have not trusted God and not realized that God will provide? It says it in the word, Genesis 22 and 14, the Lord will provide. So we have to stand on scripture and understand that God will provide because it says, So Abraham called that place, the Lord will provide. Amen. That's in the NIV. Um, so the marriage application to that, um, in financial stress and unmet expectations often fuel conflict. Agree together. God is your ultimate provider. Amen. Right? You stood upon that altar together as a union with your vows and in front of your family and your friends and you made that commitment. Right. So you have to know that God put you together.

SPEAKER_03

Mm-hmm.

SPEAKER_00

Let no man break you up. That's right. Right? And God is the man that is gonna he is gonna provide. The Lord will provide for you. So you have to believe that. And you can't let nobody break that up from you.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Um, also pray together before big decisions. Ask, Lord, what are you providing and what are you pruning?

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

That's that's huge.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Right? Prayer practice.

SPEAKER_02

You know, and I I heard on our our our devos, uh uh we have in our church something called Devo Energy. And I heard someone say, 'cause Shars just reminded me when she said, Lord, what are you pruning? Yeah. Um one of the deacons at the church was saying something from the from what the pastor spoke on on Sunday, and they said, Sometimes when you are getting fired, the Lord is repositioning you.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know I'm saying it's not always a negative, you know. Getting fired is not always negative, but God is repositioning you for something different. Yeah. So don't always look at look at your troubles in life as a negative. Look at it as a refining or repurposing because you're being shifted to do something else.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, yeah. But I remember I was so excited. It was a weird feeling, but I knew God was gonna provide, and I think you even looked at me like I was crazy. You're like, babe, you just got let go, like what? But I was I had my word and my my Bible was out and you were like, and I was like, Babe, God is gonna provide. Then we opened up our business. That's right. And that business catapulted where I am today. That's right. You know, and different things that I'm doing, and it's just beautiful, you know, and I from that day, you know, November seventh of two thousand seven, I never thought where I would be then from that devastating day that I thought was gonna be a blessing.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, and I know it was real because in the very name that God gave you for our business.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

Unique expression.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He gave you a beautiful message. And what was that message?

SPEAKER_00

It was you press on.

SPEAKER_02

And you guys hear that? You press on.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_02

That's in unique expressions. That was our business name.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

So that that is a beautiful thing, you know, and that's why we always press on in life and in everything that we do, because we know that God is with us.

SPEAKER_00

That is right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, He's with us. Um, Jehovah Jirah, we trust you with our needs. Teach us commitment and generosity. And here's a companion verse for that. Philippians 4 and 19, Matthew 6 and 33. Seek his kingdom.

SPEAKER_00

And then the second one is also uh Jehovah Rapha. The Lord, the Lord that who heals. Exodus 15 and 26. Scripture, for I am the Lord who heals you. Exodus 15 and 26. The marriage application is God heals bodies, but also hearts and history. Invite him into past hurts, harsh words, and reoccurring arguments. Confession and forgiveness open pathways for healing in Ephesians 4 and 32. Be kind and compassionate, forgiving each other just as Christ God forgave you.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

So prayer practice. You would want to say Jehovah Rapha. Heal our patterns, heal our memories, and heal the way we speak to each other. That will bring complete healing. Such a small prayer, but very impactful.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. And then number three here says Jehovah Shalom. The Lord is peace. Judges six and twenty four. Um, are as our our uh Hebrew brethren. Um Shalom Shalom means perfect peace, you know. Uh scripture, uh, Gideon called it the Lord is peace. Judges six and twenty-four, that's in the NIV, the marriage application and conflict. Invite shalom, which is peace, into the room. Try a peace pause. 60 seconds of silent prayer before you respond, which is beautiful, you know. Um that's something that I need. Um, Proverbs 15 and 1, a gentle answer turns away wrath. Ephesians 4 and 26, in your anger do not sin. And you know what? I am learning my words can be very hurtful sometime. My words can cut very deep sometimes. So I'm learning to be, I'm learning to really try to slow down before I speak. Because you don't want to say something to the ones you love and hurt them, scarve them with your words. So anybody who has a sharp tongue or who just has kind of a rough disposition, I'm just I'm I'm sitting in a place with you and and and and and sharing with you from a a person who is similar to try to incorporate this into your life because you'll appreciate it when dealing with your loved ones. Because you never want to push them away or turn them away with your words. Um Jehovah Shalom, and this is our prayer and practice, Jehovah Shalom, and that's Jehovah peace. Guard our words, guard our tone. Be our calm and conflict. Amen. That's a that's powerful. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

That's good. And um the next one is Jehovah Rohi. The Lord is my shepherd. Psalms 23 and 1. The scripture says, The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalms 23 and one, the NIV version. The marriage application is shepherd language, is about guidance and care. Ask God to shepherd your schedule, your parenting choices, and your plans. Who all needs help with that? I know I do.

SPEAKER_03

Every day.

SPEAKER_00

But God wants you to know that you lack nothing. So seek God for that and He will help you in all of those things. Follow God's leading into rest. He makes me lie down in green pastures. Psalms twenty-three, two through three. Amen. Okay. And our prayer practice is Jehovah Rohi, lead us. We choose your peace over pressure, your paths over our push. Right? Because we do that, right? So that's just that. So Amen. I think that speaks for itself.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. Can you say this one, Eric?

SPEAKER_02

Yes. Jehovah Sikadu. Um, the Lord, our righteousness, our righteous savior. Jeremiah 23 and 6. This is one of my favorite ones.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Um the scripture says this is the name by which he will be called the Lord, our righteous savior. Jeremiah 23 and 5. Um, the marriage application. Uh, I'm sorry, Jeremiah 23 and 6.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

And then it says uh the marriage application. Um, because Christ is your righteousness, you don't need to self-justify. You can admit when you're wrong quickly and forgive freely. And I think sometimes we get trapped in not thinking that we can do that. That's a trap. The devil tries to trap us in thinking that we can't do that. Right. You always have the freedom to forgive quickly. You know. Let's not hold on to that, you know, and and always admit when we're wrong. It's important. Don't have pride.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_02

You know. And then Um, first John one and seven. If we walk in the light, we have fellowship, and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin. We want to live righteous. We want to be the righteousness of God.

SPEAKER_01

That's right.

SPEAKER_02

You know, prayer and practice, Jehovah's Sikadu, thank you that our standing in Christ. Thank you, thank you. I'm sorry, thank you that our standing is in Christ. Free us from blame, from blame shifting and pride. Which I think every day we can sit and blame each other and never take personal responsibility for what we do. You should always look at yourself before you blame anybody. Take personal responsibility because you can't sit and and talk about anybody else's fault until you look at yourself first.

SPEAKER_03

Yep.

SPEAKER_02

Amen?

SPEAKER_03

Yep, that's great.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. So now we're gonna do a lightning round, and we're just gonna give you some other names for you to explore on your own. And Shara and I are just gonna name them off. And you can write them down and um explore them for yourself.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, definitely. Okay. Here we go. You guys ready? So the first one is Jehovah Nisi, the Lord is my banner. Exodus 17 and 15. Scripture is Moses called it the Lord is my banner. The prayer practice is create a one-line family banner, mission, example. Our home is a refuge that points people to Jesus.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen. And you know what? I put that sign on our house, you know, because it is it it's really, really powerful, you know. You should read about, you know, when Moses was holding up his staff, which represented the banner.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02

You know, and when he dropped his arms, you know, how the power dropped, how he had to keep his arms up to keep the power, you know, and how that was linked to God being that banner in that situation was is a beautiful thing you should read about that um in Exodus. Um Jehovah Megan and Um Cherub. And Cherub, thank you, Shars. Shield and glorious sword, and this is Deuteronomy 33 and 29. And the scripture says he is our shield and helper and and your glorious sword. He's your protector. Practice, protect your spouse's reputation, no sarcasm, no erring grievances in the public. One of the worst things you can do as a husband and wife is share your information and disrespect each other publicly in front of people. You know what I'm saying? And and realistically, yeah, you know, um, you guys should always guard each other's honor and respect one another enough to do that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're a union.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

The next one is Jehovah Mashi. Mashi. It's spelled M-A-C-H-S-I. So I might be saying it incorrectly. Um, and that is my refuge. Psalms 91 and 2. We love this scripture. And um it says, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom I trust.

SPEAKER_03

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

The practice of the prayer is make your home emotionally safe, no interrupting, no contempt. Pray Psalms 91 over your household.

SPEAKER_02

And and that's all about protection.

SPEAKER_00

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah. Amen. That's all about protection.

SPEAKER_01

Okay.

SPEAKER_02

And then and then in names in Psalms 18. Um, strength, rock, fortress, stronghold. Psalms 18, 1 and 2. And the scripture says, I love you, Lord, my strength, my rock, my fortress, my stronghold. And the practice, build weekly, rock rhythms, a shared Sabbath hour, a tech-free dinner, and a prayer walk. So it's just getting back to the natural, getting back to good habits with spending time with the Lord, knowing that He is your shelter. He is the one, He is the one that we want to spend time with, the one that we should be spending time with.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Definitely. I love that. The next one is Jehovah Ori, O-R-I, which is my light, Psalms 27 and 1. And the scripture for that is the Lord is my light and my salvation. And the prayer is walk in the light, share temptations and triggers with your spouse and pray together. So I think that, you know, that is important to make sure you are sharing those things with your spouse. So you can, you know, bring those things to the light, because the things that you hold in darkness will eventually come to the light, right? And so it's important to expose those and um don't allow the enemy to come into your marriage of the temptations and triggers that, you know, bound you, you know what I'm saying? Because those things can bring negativity and um triggers, like it says, into your your relationship. And you don't need that in your relationships.

SPEAKER_02

And I think it also will help your spouse know the things not to do to you. You know, things not to say to you. You know, thing you know, if if if if they if you have certain temptations, things not to bring around you. You know what I mean? I'm trying to lose weight. Don't bring those cakes around me. You know what I'm saying? And stuff like that. You know, that's is a showing love. Yes. You know. Um the next one is Jehovah Saba Sabahov. Yes. The Lord of hosts. First Samuel one and one and three. Um, Lord Almighty. And it says, Um, when problems fail bigger than you, declare the battle is the Lord. Yes. And you and I want you to see Psalms 24 and 8. Um, amen.

SPEAKER_00

All right. So the next one is Jehovah Shamma. The Lord is there. Ezekiel 48 and 35. The scripture says the name of the city, the Lord is there. The prayer is presence over productivity. Schedule device-free presence every day for 15 minutes.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Spend time with God.

SPEAKER_00

Spend time with God. Put it on your calendar. We make time to put stuff on our calendar. That's what my pastor always talks about. We make time to put, hey, do this. Gotta take the kids here. Got him, you know, got an appointment, doctor's appointment to be reminded. God wants his time too. So schedule that time with God.

SPEAKER_02

Put them on the calendar.

SPEAKER_00

That's right.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. And other affirmations from Psalms, my glory. Psalms 3 and 3. King forever and ever. Psalms 10 and 6. The Lord the King. Psalms 98 and 6. Creator. Isaiah.

unknown

What's the same?

SPEAKER_02

Oh, what is that?

SPEAKER_00

That was Psalms 10 and 28.

SPEAKER_02

10 and 16, sorry. And then Creator, Isaiah 10 and 28.

SPEAKER_00

40.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. And 28. 40 and 28. I'm seeing bad.

SPEAKER_00

I'm a read. Redeemer. I got you, baby. Redeemer. Isaiah 49 and 26. My fortress, Jeremiah 16 and 19. My shepherd, Psalms 23 and 1. And Mighty in Battle, Psalms 24 and 8.

SPEAKER_02

Okay. So we're gonna do homework review. So the first one here, option A, name a day, name a day, couple devotions, seven days. This is something that you could do. Um day one, um, Jehovah Jira, Genesis 22 and 14, share one need, pray for wisdom and contempt and contentment. Um day two, Jehovah Rapha, Exodus 15 and 26, each confess one hurtful habit and ask for healing.

SPEAKER_00

In day three, Jehovah Shalom, Judges six and twenty-four, practice a peace pause in your next dicks disagreement, right? Um day four, Jehovah Rohi, Psalms twenty-three, one through three, ask God to shepherd one decision you're facing.

SPEAKER_02

And day five, Jehovah, how did you pronounce it again, baby? Mashi. Mashi. S-M-A-C-H-S-I.

SPEAKER_03

Yes.

SPEAKER_02

Psalms 91 and 2. Make a refuge rule for your home. No yelling, no sarcasm.

SPEAKER_00

And then Jehovah, Megan, and Cherub, Deuteronomy 33 and 29, speak one protective, honoring the affirmation about your spouse to someone else.

SPEAKER_02

Man, I like that one. And Jehovah Shamma, um, Ezekiel 48 and 35. Plan a 30-minute device-free presence date at home or even out. You know, have a date with no devices.

SPEAKER_00

Mm-hmm. Yeah. I think that's something we do often when we have our date night. We said no device. You know, as soon as we get there, it's like, okay. Put our phones down, we make it intentional and make sure we have eye contact and that we're focused. Um, and our kids know too that, hey, this is mom and dad's time, you know. Because they know our time is important as well.

SPEAKER_02

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Um, so memory verses. I know everybody's had memory verses as kids, so we're gonna do it as adults too. Choose one or two to pray over each other daily, okay? So Psalms twenty-three and one. The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. Psalms twenty-seven and one. The Lord is my light and my salvation. Psalms ninety-one and two, he is my refuge and my fortress. Jeremiah twenty-three and six, the Lord our righteousness, our righteous savior.

Amen. And see a banner statement. Write a one-sentence family banner connected to a name of God. Example, Jehovah Shalom, under Jehovah Shalom, our home will choose peace, prayer, and gentle words. Amen. So you can just choose one and you can write a statement for your for your home.

SPEAKER_00

Amen. And then um for your reconciliation rhythm for each other, um, before you go to bed, ask each other, do we need to forgive anything tonight? Pray Ephesian Ephesians 4 and 32 together because that is very important, you guys. And that says, be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

SPEAKER_03

Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Remember that was something um Mrs. Reed gave us before, you know, we got married. She said, make sure, you know, you always before you go to bed, you know, you don't let the sun set, you know, on that wrath. And always ask for forgiveness. Even if you don't think you did something wrong, you never want if you pass away in your sleep and you know you're gonna go with God. She said, You never want it to be that decision that ruined you, you know, that one bad mistake, you know. So always ask for forgiveness because it's so, so important and freeing for your your spirit, amen. And for your relationship.

SPEAKER_02

So true.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, we're gonna go into our closing prayer. Do you want to close us out, Spirit?

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen. So, Father, you are our provider, healer, peace, shepherd, and righteous savior. Thank you that you are the shield and glorious sword. Deuteronomy 13 and 29, our refuge, 33 and 29, our refuge and fortress, Psalms 91 and 2, our rock and stronghold, Psalms 18 and 2. We ask you to be present in every home listening.

SPEAKER_04

Yes, Lord.

SPEAKER_02

Where there is fear, be light, Psalms 27 and 1. Where there is conflict, be peace, Judges 6 and 24. Where there is lack, be a provider, Genesis 22 and 14. Where there is brokenness, be a healer. Thank you, Lord. Exodus 15 and 26. Shepherd our choices, Psalms 23. Make our marriage banners the point that that point to you. Exodus 17 and 15. In Jesus' mighty name we pray. Amen.

SPEAKER_00

Amen. And final thoughts. Which names of God do you need the most this week? So really think about that, you know, and text your spouse a verse from today and pray it over. To, you know, pray it over to them at lunch, you know, wherever whatever seems most convenient. And just remember the goal isn't mastering the names, but letting the names above every name shepherd your marriage.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen. Keep showing up, keep praying the word, keep letting God's character shape your character. Yes.

SPEAKER_00

And you're not just building the marriage, you guys. You are building a sanctuary where the Lord is there.

SPEAKER_02

Amen. Amen. And until next time, remember the one that anchors you in grace is also holding you in his love and in peace. And until next time, we thank you for joining us.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, and we look forward to seeing you guys talking to y'all again.

SPEAKER_02

And thank you.
