We’ve all had those moments where we move through our days on absolute autopilot—reacting to old rules, external expectations, or an ingrained need to keep everyone else happy. But what happens when you decide to drop the act and listen to what your body is actually telling you?

In this opening episode, author Elaina Kelly Smith shares a raw, personal story from a tiny shop in Alaska where a dangerously spicy "Little Nitro" gummy bear became an unexpected mirror for her entire life. Standing in front of the camera, faced with the pressure to eat the whole thing to look brave for the "cheerleaders" watching, Elaina captures a real-time pivot: the moment she chose to listen to her own internal "no" and stop at the ear.

Through this simple, funny, yet profound moment, you will learn why stopping is a superpower, how to distinguish between performing for others and honoring your own truth, and how success isn't finishing the challenge—it’s self-integrity. Elaina introduces the foundational steps of the PARQS framework, showing you how a simple internal check-in can help you gracefully change course and learn to build your own bricks of self-trust.

If you are facing your own "hot gummy bear" moment in life right now, it’s time to interrupt faking it and return to who you truly are. Grab your free copy of the First Steps Kit featuring the One-Minute Check-In at the link below. Welcome home to yourself.

Today I'm sharing with you an experience I had in this shop in Alaska. While I was there, I found this tiny red gummy bear. It was called Little Nitro. I was a bit nervous. Here I am. I'm gonna try Little Nitro. The world's hottest gummy bears. Okay, here we go, guys. No jokes. The cheerleader girls. Yes, thank you. I have a cheerleader over there. Pan over there to give credit to the cheer. Okay, guys, no tricks. You see, it's just one. There's nothing in there. Here we go. And I'm not faking. Hopefully. I'm gonna start with a nibble of the ear. I'm not gonna put it all in. Okay, this is the whole darn thing. Okay, just in case you need some water, are we? Okay, the water's right there. Should we? It tastes like you ate the seeds inside the jalapeno, like that. Like a green jalapeno. But you know what? If I ate all this, I could see I'd be in pain, but I see the wisdom to stop at the ear. So if you ever feel like having a hot bite of a gummy, make sure to try out a little nitro and out of hiccups because it's so hot. Bye for now. Now I could have eaten the whole thing just to look brave for the camera. Many of us do that in life, right? We push through the fire because we're afraid to change our minds. And in this case, that'd been giving all of our power to that little gummy. In this video, I said, I see the wisdom to stop at the ear. I didn't need to finish it to be brave. I was brave enough to listen to my own no. Stopping is a superpower. I had to ask myself, was I doing this for me or for the cheerleaders watching? I took a tiny bite and then I put it down. That is a brick of proof that I'm on my own side. Success isn't finishing the gummy bear. Success is self-integrity. It's matching what you do with what you feel is true. If you're facing your own hot gummy bear right now, I invite you to actually take a pause. Just one minute to check in with yourself. And I have a free toolkit to help you do just that. Download the first steps kit and use the one-minute check-in to help you figure out what you actually prefer. The link is in the description. Thanks for listening to Changing Course Gracefully.
