SPEAKER_00

But this is my podcast. See you next Tuesday at Glasgow. And I'm here with you, guys want to introduce yourselves.

SPEAKER_06

I'm Amanda. I'm Megan. And we run a podcast called The Sideline about women's football in Scotland. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Um I so did you guys watch the game last night? So England played um Norway last night.

SPEAKER_06

They did. I did not stay up for it because um good choice. I go to bed about 9 p.m. every night. So even on a weekend, I was like done.

SPEAKER_00

All of the World Cup games have been at unfortunate times.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, definitely. I think like uh at the best of times, I don't really want to watch England play, and then also, you know, 10 p.m. I'm not staying up for this.

SPEAKER_00

I got a lot of hate because I was you're supposed to play anybody but England. It's like that's the rule in Scotland, right? Um, that I posted something online and they're like, you traitor! Oh yeah, you're like stop the boats or whatever, and you're like, Oh, this just got really dark anytime you talk about football online. You guys focus on women's football, right? Um, yes, women play football, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we can do that, our bodies can handle it. Yeah, they're out the kitchen, they're on the picks. Um to be clear, we would watch England women.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, yeah, yeah. I actually went and watched the England women at the Eurofinals a few years ago at Wembley, and uh my partner I was like, maybe I'll wear my Germany top, and she was like, Don't wear Germany, like this is against Germany, and I was like, okay, but uh I'm actually glad I didn't because it was actually quite emotional. Yeah, I actually felt quite emotional watching that many people give a fuck about women's football.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, which was nice. It was it was England England the women's England team won.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and it was like so incredible to be there and see it and just yeah, like all the people in their jerseys and yeah, it just kind of felt like uh uh tide kind of shifting, and yeah, it was really like yeah, obviously we see now the lionesses do amazing all the time, but what stadium was that in? At Wembley, okay, yeah, and it was at full, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, yeah, well that's what I mean. I was like, Yeah, because I went to the Hamden Park women's The Celtic playing Oh yeah, that was the Scotch Cup, yeah, and it was really empty.

SPEAKER_04

I was like, I was like, no, because it was a good game, it was a good game, but there was what like 3,000 if that there it was bad. Like I do I do wish with that. Obviously, it's amazing getting Hamden and like access to those pitches, but I do wish we'd put it in smaller grounds. So not getting the numbers and build up, like I think there'd be more atmosphere, yeah. I think if they played things in smaller like in Scotland, women have played in smaller grounds, it's been more atmospheric. Like step back, really.

SPEAKER_06

No, it's just well, I mean Scotland women are playing at St. Marin's ground for their World Cup qualifier in October, was it? Yeah, um and I've seen them play there before against Sweden, it was great, yeah. And I just I think it's okay to accept that you can't fill it that much, but also the reason you can't fill it is because you're not investing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, because I I mean I enjoyed watching the game and I don't I think there's a you know Alona Maher, the Oh yeah, yeah. We just need that we need a version of her for for women's football. We just need some like in social media influencer who's a 200 pound beast on the field. Absolute unit because I think she sells out the games when she yeah, when she plays here.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, her like club down south. She would like sell them out, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I would go.

SPEAKER_04

Oh, I would go and I'd even watch rugby. Yeah, like I would go and see her, but like that's what's going to happen. Obviously, there's the WSL down south. Uh-huh. London City Lionesses promoted last season, and they've just um signed Alexia Pateas, who is arguably well not arguably is the best player. You saying the best player in the world? I think so, yeah. What's her name?

SPEAKER_06

Um Alexia Pateas. Okay. What did you say? Overmartha. Overmart. Yeah. Well, right now she is, yeah. Right now she is. Yes, yeah. Yeah, definitely she's up there. I mean, she's a two-time Ballon d'Or winner and like has won multiple Champions Leagues, World Cup, like and who does she play for? She plays well, she was at Barcelona and and and for her whole life and plays for Spain. Okay. Um and then is she Spanish? Yeah, so then has now signed to this London City Lionesses, who were like a woman-owned club, um, there's no men's team to them, and they were bought over by a billionaire woman called Michelle Kang, who has basically made it her like purpose to make a really profitable, amazing team in England. And so they got promoted from the second division up to the Premier League, and now they're just signing huge players.

SPEAKER_04

And I'm like that, me and you were saying, like, we've we were like, Oh, that's good, like we quite like them. And then when she signed, I said to you, we need to see the fixtures, we need to go like that's what will happen. She will sell out those games. Yeah, what's her stadium 7000? Yeah, you're not getting a ticket for that. Like, folk will go just to see her. Yeah, so that's the for me that what you are saying is true. Like, it should hopefully well, no, I'm not even hoping we'll get that up here, but it should be something that translates up here.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, definitely. Um yeah, we're just kind of slow to progress up here sometimes with things, which is funny because Scotland seems like it's a lot of people.

SPEAKER_00

But they're so they're so like, yeah, they're so football for you know, you're just like, Wow, you're like, well, you can also go to the women's, and you're like, Stop. But they're like, Well, they were like, We almost won the World Cup. I'm like, didn't they win the World Cup? But like women, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you're like, I don't the women go to the World Cup in 2019. Yeah, I was saying this, I was like, There would never be a bank holiday if Scotland women qualified for the bank for the World Cup. Yeah, but if it was on the tele and I don't know if the stream worked, if the stream worked, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

They are doing in America though, I think they've been putting more money into women's sports and selling out like the WNBA, I think.

SPEAKER_06

Love the WNBA. I went and saw yeah, um, a game when I was out in LA, and it was just like again quite emotional seeing like they're playing in the Lakers uh huh stadium, and you know, it was like amazing, yeah. Just to have like a whole like they like well, it was full to begin with, which is incredible, but then also um on game day, like they swap out it's like the crypto arena or ever. So the Lakers merchandise shop inside, they swap it all out, so it's only women's merch. And I was like, that's such a nice touch. So yeah, you don't feel like you're kind of taking up the boys. Like, yeah, do you know what I mean? Like even allowed in. It's like, no, it's a shared environment.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but I think it's more women I like women want to watch other women play. Yeah, so it's like if if you know, I if if you just promote it more to women, because I feel like men's sports are promoted to men. I'm trying to think of a good way to say that. But but then but you know you have like the little girls going to see Alona Maher, you know, play because they're like, oh awesome, I can be like that, in the same way that little boys do.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, it's the whole like you can't be what you can't see thing, isn't it? Which is such like a like feminist saying too. Yeah, everyone loves to say that. But I think it is true.

SPEAKER_00

Because like we like I wouldn't have known where to go play football growing up, but now I can name hundreds of clubs that have youth teams that have well this w so I grew up in Oklahoma and every like the the trope of like soccer moms, that's a that's a thing. But like nobody I know is like a professional, so everybody was playing fucking soccer.

SPEAKER_02

Oh, really?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but like nobody went anywhere with it after high school. It was just like and you stopped. It was like a thing that you just did to entertain the children. But soccer moms, yeah, yeah. But soccer moms is like what you would call mom with a minivan going to soccer every weekend, and then but Shakira does, I saw.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, she like takes her kids to little soccer events, and could you imagine Shakira?

SPEAKER_00

What if what if we just had Shakira go to all the women's oh listen, the ambassador, yeah, that would be amazing. Yeah, I think once you build hype around something, people show up. It's just this idea that oh, nobody's going, so like I won't go. But um, I was watching that game last night, and one of the things I've heard guys say is like, oh, women are the games are slower, women are slower, men are faster. And I was watching that game last night and I was like, This is what's so boring. You know what I mean? They were just in games exist everywhere. I know, I was like, this is not exciting. They're just I think it's because they were so equally matched that it was just like they just were boring, like nobody was a little bit better than the other. It was just like, oh, we're just we're just gonna stay hang out in the middle of the field here. And Holland, I was like, he's gonna do something. It was like just walking. I was like, why, why? I thought he was gonna like do everything and he was just waiting for the ball to come here.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, waiting for it to be handed to him.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he was. He was like, I'm here, and you're like, I think you need to do more than that, babe.

SPEAKER_06

I saw like a stat that was like messy as it's like walked like his like average like running speed has been like a walking pace the whole World Cup. Yeah, something like that. And I was just like, that makes sense.

SPEAKER_00

Is that is if they call him a striker, is that right? Where he's just the only goal is to like yeah, just get the ball in the goal.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. Um which I think a lot of the time does make people look quite lazy. You know, you see that um I always think of Viv Midema, the women's footballer, yeah, who she does just kind of like potter about like that, and then suddenly she just does something really genius, and you're like, oh my god, that's why that's why you were doing that. You're good at that. Yeah, right. Meanwhile, like whenever like we would play football and I would just be like sprinting the whole length of the pitch back and forth, being like, Am I being helpful?

SPEAKER_00

I did play football in soccer in America in high school. I was so bad I was on the JV the entire time. That was really bad. What uh what position did you play? I was a defender, so definitely not in the front, definitely not the sprinter in the front. Yeah, those people were very good. Uh yeah, I'm just not a very aggressive person, it turns out. So I'd be like, Oh, okay, you can have it. Oh no, or like coordinated. So I feel like being a little bit aggressive and coordinated is like being a defender where you're like, I just I went and I joined like the running club. You're like, there you go, there you go. Just leisurely jogging.

SPEAKER_06

That's nice.

SPEAKER_00

How did you guys get into football?

SPEAKER_06

I mean, you're a huge kind of football fan your whole life, aren't you? Like that's your whole yeah, I'll let you talk.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, um my dad's very much a big influence on that. So he took me when I was nine to my first football game. Uh-huh. Um, I think he actually maybe took me to a Scotland game before that, but my first domestic football game. And from that, I was just like hooked. Yeah. Um yeah, it was amazing. So I've just always followed it since then, really. And played it, just casually, yeah. Yeah. Nothing more than that. We've played together, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, we used to play together. Yeah, I was always just a casual footballer growing up, like in the parks and stuff like that. But I played hockey, like field hockey a lot when I was young. It was a terrifying sport.

SPEAKER_05

That's aggressive, by the way.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

No, we had field hockey in Oklahoma and the bruises they didn't. And like we had to wear the mouth guard. Because you're like you it's almost like a pool cue that you would get in your face.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, like a just solid plastic.

SPEAKER_00

I didn't even try and with like the wooden sticks, and you're just like, What the fuck? Yeah, going back to my little jogging club.

SPEAKER_04

I love how at school that was such a like the ghosts play hockey, and it's like, mate, these ghettos are gonna kill me.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I remember also when we played school hockey against like the private school girls, they were the worst, yeah. Yeah, like yeah, just they had a lot of pent-up anger.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but like one of the girls' school, like yeah, I don't know what they were so angry about, but they were. And now I'm like, I look back and I'm like, yeah. But when you're on the field, you're like, no. The other was well, when I was in college, or you guys are called university, uh, the rugby women scared the shit out of me. Yeah, yeah. They were so cool though. They were so fucking cool.

SPEAKER_06

We play football with a lot of ex-rugby players and who have just got sick of maybe that many head injuries that they were like head injuries, they were just like ripping each other's nipples off. You're just like they were just going for it, and like held together with tape but still playing. Yeah, it's so much. Meanwhile, I'm like one tiny injury and it lets me down. Yeah, probably a tiny injury. Well, no, not that one. Yeah, I had a bad injury playing football.

SPEAKER_00

That was one of the things that was it your Achilles heel, uh that one's heel. That's not the real thing, anyway.

SPEAKER_06

But I yeah, that was in our kind of community football league, and that was a bad one. Where that was a wake-up call to being like, You have a job. This is like a Sunday kick about you have fucked it. Die on this hill. Yeah, so it was not so good. Um but hey, look, it started a podcast for us. That's literally why the podcast started.

SPEAKER_00

Just so you can yap about football. Yeah. It's it's it's specifically women's football too, right?

SPEAKER_06

Specifically women's football, yeah. It's Scottish one about the Scottish women's football, about the league in Scotland, SWPL and international football, and yeah, I just was like, Megan, I'm gonna be out for a while. Should we should we do something? Yeah, keep me sane.

SPEAKER_04

And you were like, Yeah, all right. Yeah, it's meant to be a few episodes, wasn't it? And it's turned into two years worth of two years worth, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Oh wow, yeah. So it's kind of taken over our lives. Um, as I was saying before, we started recording trying to move house just now, and I was like, How do I work and edit and show people around the flat to sell?

SPEAKER_00

And edits, I don't like to do that, yeah.

SPEAKER_05

Edit, yeah, you don't want to why we edit.

SPEAKER_00

I'm learning. So the the first few episodes I did of this, I would laugh a lot, and I was like, I listen back, and I'd be like, Shut the fuck up, me. It's like a filler. We just stop laughing, it gets really loud when you laugh.

SPEAKER_06

Um that's nice though. That laughing's good.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, but it's like into the microphone, like it's uh you only think about that when you're editing because editing sucks.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, it sucks. I used to do podcast and audio editing as a career before I changed career. And and I had a studio, like I said, just along the road here. But wow, yeah, you start, you could see like ums coming a mile away on the little sound waves. Yeah, it's an um edit. Oh, you gotta take it out.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that's great. Leave a minute, it makes you feel more natural and the dog snoring best necessary.

SPEAKER_06

That's like ASMR. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, what's really hard is to edit it when it's the sound of your own voice. Yeah, and you're like, oh, that's great. You're like, why did I say that like that? Yeah, yeah. Um anyway. So uh you've been doing that podcast for the women's team. Um, who is your favorite team right now?

SPEAKER_06

Well, my favorite team in Scotland is Glasgow City. They've always been um I follow them on TikTok. Great. Uh you should come to a game when the league starts back again.

SPEAKER_00

When do they start again?

SPEAKER_06

August 17th, is it? I was gonna say 14th. 14th. 17th. That that weekend. Where do they play? They play up in Peters Hill up kind of Springburn uh way.

SPEAKER_00

And as long as a train can get there. I don't drive in this backward country of other size and round.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, you can get a train. Yeah, yeah. Or a bus, yeah. Um but they yeah, they're one of the only teams actually from Glasgow that still play inside Glasgow, um, which is another gripe of ours. We're we're not gonna have like an agony ant session.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, but an agony ant.

SPEAKER_06

Is that what it is? Yeah, yeah, like what's your problem caller? Yeah, I like that.

SPEAKER_00

No, I love all these Scottish phrases. Agony Ants. Agony Ant.

SPEAKER_04

I don't know is that a Scottish one? I don't know. Your problem and they would give you the advice. Agony Ant. What?

SPEAKER_05

Um but we would have uh Dear Abbey. Dear Abbey, probably the same thing.

SPEAKER_06

But Agony Ants almost I just want to know why Celtic don't play in the city boundaries.

SPEAKER_04

Um is it money?

SPEAKER_06

It's money, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I know every well, Celtic have got money.

SPEAKER_06

Oh yeah, Celtic. Yeah, they're just scared to spend money.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, Celtic women or Celtic men?

SPEAKER_06

Well, just like the whole the whole club.

SPEAKER_00

So does it work that if the men team makes a bunch of money, some of no well, I don't know.

SPEAKER_04

I'm I'm speculating, but Celtic are not good at spending their money on the men or the women. Um that's been the big gripe this last season. But the women, uh yeah, it just seems to be an afterthought, isn't it?

SPEAKER_06

Just now it's kind of upsetting because you know they've had really good runs and they've now moved playing their games to the city. Well they just won.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they just won their cup. So that should like the Scottish Cup, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

That should move them up. They should do something about that, yeah. Yeah, get some good players.

SPEAKER_04

I mean they've they've done some good signings, yeah. They've got like Hannah Jordan, I'm really pleased about. I don't think we've got a ton of an episode of the sideline here, but has there been she uh is there a real ambition? How much football first like football did she play last season? Yeah, is this like replace is that replacement for an inning?

SPEAKER_06

No.

SPEAKER_04

So I don't know if they're making signings that we're like that's a good signing, but are we like a starter coming in and hitting the ground running, or is that somebody you know, maybe with a pre-season, I think she'll be great, but change time.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I think what we see quite a lot in Scottish women's football, which we're just going off on various tangents. That's no no, I like it, but I'm always learning. What we see in Scottish women's football is like a lot of really great youth development becoming like big players in Scotland, like Kathleen McGovern, for example, who plays at Hibs. Um she's like a young player who got called up to the senior Scotland team and has like done fantastic and was a huge is a huge player at Hibs, um, won the league with them, yeah. But already like her contract's up and it's not been renewed, and so she's most likely going down south. And so is that what happens?

SPEAKER_00

We keep seeing talent leave. That's what happens in the comedy world. And I guess like movie stars.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, London about yeah, that kind of thing.

SPEAKER_00

But then they get then they go to London, they get called to LA. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

So But it's a it's a shame because it's like we want to foster talent and keep it and like really grow the league and have people like you know, be faces that are recognizable and are from places where we all grew up and stuff, but it's not like as soon as you reach a level, they all can't it's more like a stepping stone. And this league shouldn't be a stepping stone, yeah. You know, that's what's upsetting. Yeah, I agree.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so what is so the team in like that lioness's team in London? That's where they would want to get that's like the end goal, right?

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I think yeah, I think down south, just in general. So the the ones recently we've seen Crystal Palace sent quite a lot on a Lipswitch, went through a spell of Southampton. Did they take quite a few? Um, but obviously you've got big teams in England that have got like you know players on millions of pound contracts.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, like that's hard to say no to. Yeah, I know.

SPEAKER_06

And if you're gonna then play alongside them, people you're only gonna get better, aren't you? You're gonna like become a better player and yeah, better standards for training facilities and all this kind of stuff. So it's all like it all kind of ties into each other, but it is always just money.

SPEAKER_00

So we just need a billionaire.

SPEAKER_06

Literally, we need Michelle Kang. We need Michelle Kang to start a Scotland.

SPEAKER_00

But she's not even she's not from London, is she?

SPEAKER_04

No, she's an American yeah. She invests is it Leon and then an American team is a very good thing. Gotham is it Gotham? No, wait, is it Gotham? I was gonna say Washington Spirit. Oh no, it's Washington Spirit. Yeah, you're right, it's Washington Spirit, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. The NWSL in America is incredible, by the way. Did you ever watch any of that? No, no, what is it? So good, it's the Women's Soccer League in America, uh-huh. But like they have had huge players come through them, and like yeah, like Rachel Quarcy, who used to be the Scotland captain, she played in Seattle with like Megan Rapino and Hope Solo and all of them like at the time, and I was like, Everybody knows Hope Solo.

SPEAKER_00

Everyone knows Hope Solo. That's also just a cool name. Yeah. Have they ever considered just having cooler names? Just like why don't you just change your name? I mean, like the rock.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know why my mind meant to flash Gordon there, but I mean it does make him iconic. Yeah, like the McTominy guy. I don't even know his first name. Scops. Kind of painting him.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you got painting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, the McTominy, you know, like or McSauce.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, McSauce.

SPEAKER_06

You kind of yeah, I feel like people become brands quite quickly, don't they?

SPEAKER_00

I think you kind of have to though. If you think about like the influencer, though Alana Maher's not, she's whatever. Yeah, um yeah, you lose your humanity, so we can I mean we're we're paying to watch you entertain us.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, do something cool.

SPEAKER_00

Come on, dance, monkey.

SPEAKER_06

Do the things that was you last night with Halland.

SPEAKER_00

You were like, I was I was I didn't even really I mean I knew about him because he's so distinctive looking, but they really hyped him up before this game.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So it was disappointing to be like, Oh I was really expecting big things.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, that's fair.

SPEAKER_00

Really expecting, you know, like like a Spider-Man moves or something. Like a bite, just do a bicycle kick.

SPEAKER_06

That would be cool, but yeah it would have. He's just huge as well, isn't he? He should just be so fast as well. He's so fast.

SPEAKER_00

If he had not shoved that guy, they would have worn. I know, and he wasn't it isn't even necessary to shove that guy.

SPEAKER_04

No, no, I know it was madness because that goal had nothing to do with him, right? It wasn't even been played when he did it, I don't think. It was just who did he shove? Elliot Anderson. But it was like an arms extended push, it wasn't it wasn't like a like shirt. Yeah, you couldn't really.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, it was it was such a big point. It was like, oh call more. Yeah, that's his move.

SPEAKER_05

That's his move.

SPEAKER_00

The really the one thing he did was lose the game. Technically, but but he's so nice.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, he does seem love. I mean, I'm an Arsenal fan in terms of men's team, and he's a nightmare for Arsenal, so he plays at Man City and he's just a big striker, obviously.

SPEAKER_04

So yeah, he's just got so many qualities, hasn't he? That would make it a nightmare as a defender. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What is that? So he just shoves people.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah, he's just I feel like you get near him and he's just like uh he's just a bit. Yeah, but I just well, not last night. Yeah, we all have days.

SPEAKER_00

It really I know, but like that's not the day to have an off day. That was a bad day to have an off day. Yeah, um, and then I found out that Kane guy on the England team like hangs out with Trump, and you're like what was that baby?

SPEAKER_04

I know, we're just like, I what? Why would he even say I know he was obviously asked about it, but but he was so excited.

SPEAKER_00

He was like that sounds yeah, where you're like, Oh my god, I got to meet him, and you're like, Satan? Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that was such bad a bad look. Uh yeah. I think a lot of uh people were just like that's going on with it.

SPEAKER_06

It's been a shit world cup. You think so? Uh Scott and got their one goal.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I know, but it's just I'd I'm not like not obviously I'm a Scotland fan, but I'm not overly bothered by like I wouldn't have gone to America to watch. Somewhere in that it's not international football, like isn't something I would be hardcore, go to all the games or anything, but um like Trump interfering with the red cards, oh yeah, the kickoff times, the visa problems, the treatment of some of the players. Like I just think it's been just if you're a country that's not equipped to deal with uh multiculturalism necessarily, or a lot of different people in a short amount of time don't host the World Cup. You don't need to do it.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, where was it last time? It was just as bad, wasn't it?

SPEAKER_04

Qatar Qatar, but yeah, actually Qatar did better. Yeah, like in in terms of fan experience and stuff, people are saying Qatar was actually better. So obviously we've not gone through the World Cup, but what I'm seeing online is like it's terrible, yeah, dead expensive, like just uh an endless list of it.

SPEAKER_00

Guitar and army look like they were having a great time.

SPEAKER_04

Oh no, they were trying, didn't they?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah. But it does sound like a bunch of Scottish people went to Boston and had a great time.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's about it.

SPEAKER_00

They were like they're like, we're not gonna know when, so we are gonna have the best time.

SPEAKER_04

I think like if you get thousands of Scottish people in a big place, it's fine. Like you have a good time, and even if it's shit, like you're gonna be like, right, cut a beers, yeah, make the most of it.

SPEAKER_06

I remember my friends were talking about the Euros, and that they were up north and like I don't even know where they were, like Glencoe or something, and uh they were watching the Scotland game at the Euros a few years ago, and Scotland obviously they got booted out, but everyone was like so amped up about the whole of the game and everything, and then as soon as they got booted out, they were like, right, well, get the tunes on, get the pinks on.

SPEAKER_05

Of course that happened, like that's so funny.

SPEAKER_04

That's what I mean. It doesn't feel like you're pure gutted, like obviously it's gutting, but you're not like dwelling on it, you're like, Oh well, we're done that's about right. We've done we're done all right, do you know what I mean? No, they beat us three now. That's all right, guys.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I mean, last night was so fun as we cheered against England. That was like ridiculous. Yeah, yeah, because the Queen's Park, you know, it's just so it was so fun, and you're like just hoping that England will lose.

SPEAKER_05

It's so petty.

SPEAKER_06

It's quite like a like uh like dramatic, kind of almost like panto style thing watching football sometimes, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

Like everyone's like ooh, yeah, but they're the row, row, row, yeah, but then I they have like the iconic Scottish chants. We didn't do any of those last night. No, but it has that has to be saved for um the the Scottish teams, right? Yep. Um so like all the all the Celtic and all the Rangers, they usually sell out all their games, don't they?

SPEAKER_04

Uh usually, yeah. Celtic definitely do, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. Do you go to all the Celtic games?

SPEAKER_04

Not all of them, no.

SPEAKER_00

Do you have like a seat? No, like I can't just like buy a ticket to go, can I?

SPEAKER_04

You could no, you could if you're quick enough. Like generally, Celtic and Rangers are pretty full. Like sit like Rangers do a thing where you can if you can't go to the game and you've got a season ticket, you can put it up for sale. And you could go on in the morning of the game and be like, oh, I'll buy that person's ticket. Celtic ticket and not give it away.

SPEAKER_00

So if you have like a season a seat, does that mean you have like one seat and you just go by yourself?

SPEAKER_04

Could do, yeah. Your seat, like for the your season books and season.

SPEAKER_00

Because usually you'd want to have like two, right?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, this is what I I've been myself. Yeah, you've been yourself to Games Broad.

SPEAKER_00

I guess you're together with your people.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, uh yeah, but this is the thing that I would put put me off of that is like you wait like what years for a season ticket to come up. Oh yeah, like the season you can't even go on the list. And then you're just like sat somewhere, and then like maybe like your friend is sat at the other bit of the stadium and your dad is somewhere else in the stadium, and you're like, so you don't actually get to like group, it's kind of sad.

SPEAKER_04

If you've got a season book, you tip typically probably would know the folk around you over time. Yeah, what if you hated what if you hated them? Yeah, that would have happened.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, you're like aw fucking Jimmy every day next to Jimmy and his weird laugh.

SPEAKER_06

When I go see the game, yeah, that's quite funny.

SPEAKER_04

I've never really thought about that before.

SPEAKER_00

I guess you could have a box.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, if you were really that cheaper.

SPEAKER_00

I did I did see a Celte game from the Adidas box. Did you? I saw the Aberdeen game, and uh the the stadium was empty because they were protesting the board.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's been an ongoing thing.

SPEAKER_00

It was so funny.

SPEAKER_04

Is it the cup game?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know, but it was because the our team was saying get rid of the board. That was the chant, like, get rid of the board, and then the Aberdeen team would chant, get keep the board.

SPEAKER_01

I love Scottish humor is unmatched, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I love it. I feel like you can't get away with much in Scotland without yeah, someone giving it back to you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I just wish this the they would show up for the women's. Maybe I should be the change that we need, and I'd start going to games.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, just start shouting shit at games.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, my own chance.

SPEAKER_06

Pick up a chat, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I felt like because they I think there was a guy at the women's Celtic game that we went to who was trying to get people to chant and they weren't chanting. Yeah, there's like a one really loud dude.

SPEAKER_06

We know exactly who you mean. Oh, right, with the flag, yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And he was doing his best to get everybody chanting.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, he does bring the noise. It's yeah, do you well we went down to a game in England and there was a lot more chants and stuff like that. But I feel like in Scotland, like people just haven't quite got that culture yet with the women's game.

SPEAKER_00

The Arsenal women's Arsenal women do, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That's what we went, they were classics.

SPEAKER_00

And they really fill the stadiums, don't they? Because my friends are diehard Arsenal fans.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. But do you think it's because there's like not that many people? So it's like who's gonna start the channel? Do you know what I mean? Like it wouldn't be me. There's like 30 of them, like and then somebody does it and nobody else does it, and you're like, uh cool. Yeah, then you're just that person that just so first, first more people. More people. Yeah, I think there needs to be more people to hover that kind of like and then a songbook and a sort of this is what I needed.

SPEAKER_00

So I need to start starting to like I need to pick a women's team, yeah, and then I just go to all of them. It'd be really nice if I could take me. It's fine, I won't take Maisie.

SPEAKER_06

I mean you Glasgow City does love dogs. I think they one of their sponsors is like a dog treat. Yeah, yeah. I could take Maisie to a game. Yeah, you could. Oh yeah, you can take you could to most women's games you can take dogs. What? Someone brought a duck to a game, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I don't want to do that, but okay.

SPEAKER_06

But there are always dogs, there's always dogs at games. Always, always. What?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, because I guess it's a smaller like is it more like a field with steep bleachers kind of a situation?

SPEAKER_06

Uh yeah, there's like an ass stand, yeah. But it's like yeah, maybe a thousand.

SPEAKER_04

I would say, well, how many when you went to that rangers and site game at the end?

SPEAKER_06

Maybe just over a thousand. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I kind of want to pick one that's close and easy to get to. That's a terrible reason to pick a team, but it it makes you go more. It's accessible.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I think well, if I have to go all the way to this is where we're coming back round full circle to the point I was making about how Celtic women have decided to move their pitch to Kirkintilic. It's not accessible, is it? Kirkentil, it's like a chuchter town.

SPEAKER_00

That's like a chucher town. A chuchter.

SPEAKER_06

It's like which is me. Um it's okay, I can say it. Yeah, I'm from the countryside.

SPEAKER_00

So I'm from the country. I'm from a from a farm in Oklahoma. Well then you're a chuchter. I'm a trichter. Probably.

SPEAKER_06

It's like a a farmer type.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, I got in trouble because I made a video with kunzel dinner.

SPEAKER_06

A kunzel dinner.

SPEAKER_00

They're like, you're a posh. I'm like, I don't think that's right, but sure. Like you're making fun of poor people. I'm like, this is actually what I eat.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

Chicken's. I'm not ironically being. Yeah, they just happen to call it kunzel dinner anyway. I'm a truckter.

SPEAKER_06

A churchter, yeah. That's like uh a person from the countryside, which usually is said as like a kind of slagging by the city people. If you were from Glasgow and you said it would be seen as like Robin Jeb. I said I yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But I am a proud church, I don't care. Tructor?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, I have to. Anyway, Kirk and T.

SPEAKER_00

That is a thousand percent a video I'm gonna make right after this.

SPEAKER_05

Have you heard about chuckers?

SPEAKER_00

Today I found that I'm a triptor. I like that it sounds like tractors.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it kind of does.

SPEAKER_06

I don't think that's where it comes. I actually don't even want to know the etymology of it because it's probably something really degrading and yeah, yeah, yeah. You're like, it means pig's feet. I'm a proud trooper. Anyway, so Kirk and Jelic is miles away. It's annoying. You I don't know how we'll get well, we drive, but if you don't drive, it's gonna be impossible to get to the games, and that just feels like a huge step backwards. Yeah. Um so in terms of it does have to be train accessible, yeah. And that's not even train accessible, is it?

SPEAKER_04

Looking at you. Yeah, not really. I don't think so. I don't know is the honest answer, but it's further out than they were at Hamilton before. Yeah, but you could get the train. Uh-huh. So it just makes it and the timings of the game sometimes isn't great as well. So we'll see how it plays out this season, but it's feels like a move backwards, I think. Yeah, it does.

SPEAKER_06

Um, but Glasgow City, yeah, you can bring your dog to. Where and where do they play? So they're the one at Peters Hill, like Springburg.

SPEAKER_00

That that one's that's easy to get to, right?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So that's probably the best. And Park Thistle also share that pitch.

SPEAKER_00

So if you're why don't they let them play in the Park Deck Thistle? Which is a it's a little bit fallen apart. It needs a lick of paint. I walked by the stadium, Park Thistle, and I was like, guys, come on. I kind of like it's like fallen apart. I mean, it just needs to like you know how it's like crumbling paint, and you're like, that's the easiest thing to fix. Yeah, yeah. You just scrape it off and put new paint on it.

SPEAKER_06

I remember years and years ago, one of my friends I worked with was a party, well, still is a park thistle fan, and I just remember like the season had started, but their strips hadn't arrived yet, and I was like, that's just that kind of club that I can get behind is just like they're so skint, they're just really scraping by every year. Yeah. And their strips relate to being a strip, like their football strips. Oh, yeah. So they were wearing like last season's football strips for a couple of games before they got delivered. I know it's I was like, that's good. Yeah, of course that would happen with Park this one.

SPEAKER_00

So I do feel like every skint men's team is just a regular women's team.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah. Yeah, you're they're like your skintest men's team is your most successful.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, probably like they're probably doing more. Yeah, yeah. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_05

Like, how do they survive?

SPEAKER_01

They're like, you guys are getting paid to play football. Oh, you get you get new jerseys.

SPEAKER_06

Oh no, I really want to see things improve though, and it is happening, and like you know, there's positive changes, like women's football in Scotland's more watched than it has ever been. You know, there's like good changes happening, and players like Caroline Weir, for example, who was at Real Madrid and has now moved to Leon, she was the um top goal scorer at Real Madrid and like up for the Ballon d'Or nomination again, and it's just like an incredible player. So I think like spotlights like that draw attention to Scottish talent.

SPEAKER_04

So definitely, yeah, and like Erin Cusper at Chelsea and other big things.

SPEAKER_00

But then they get talented and they go to London. Yeah. So you wanted to be like you're like, oh, get good, but not like too good.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, not too good. She's like, no, no, no, no, take it out. Yeah, I think for us, like Ur Hope at this point is one of the more retirement up here, as in do a last season up here or something like that, and that will drive that's I felt like that with Lisa with Lisa Evans coming back to Glasgow City.

SPEAKER_06

I felt like that. She was playing at Arsenal and stuff and was playing down Bristol City and stuff like that down south. Um, but obviously was like at Arsenal during a really good spell of Arsenal women doing well, and I was like, Oh, this is her coming, like this is her doing like her home games now. Like I think everyone was really buzzing to see her.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I was buzzing like remember we messaged about it.

SPEAKER_06

And we got to interview her, which was lovely. And her boots, and we got her boots, yeah. You got to keep her shoes. Well, we sponsored her, we sponsored her boots, which is like give them back. Yeah, we sponsored her boots for a season.

SPEAKER_04

Does that mean you buy her recently and then she at the end of the season you get them if you sponsor them? So we got like a boot each, didn't we assign?

SPEAKER_06

That's from our first season of doing the podcast. We're like that's a nice memento.

SPEAKER_00

How much is it to sponsor a boot?

SPEAKER_06

It's like 120 quid or something. It's not that bad. But also sad that you're like clubs are needing to get sponsors for just to like fund things, you know, yeah, top up the funds. But yeah, we sponsored um kits and stuff as well this season, last season. Yeah. Um Cheryl McCulloch. Or was that her boots again?

SPEAKER_04

No, it was her top, I think.

SPEAKER_06

A top, right? Sorry.

SPEAKER_04

It wasn't boots.

SPEAKER_06

This player, Cheryl McCulloch, who's an an amazing football player at Park Thistle as well, but she's also a firefighter full time, of course. So she'll like that's quite cool, come off of doing a night shift, have one hour sleep, and then go play a game. Just like McDominy. Just like McDomany in Holland. That's why he was on the night shift, that's why it was shit yesterday.

SPEAKER_00

They're all like the nine hours of sleep in ice baths and like in the chef.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, like the bath and face masks and stuff on. Yeah, I know it's a totally different world, but I but that's why I quite like doing the podcast that we do, is because we get to ask people stuff like that. How do you balance being a fucking firefighter?

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, my brother's a firefighter, they do get a lot of downtime that because they work like three days a week, like on, yeah, and then they'll have like a few days off. So my brother's not an athlete on this side. You had a he had a donut truck. That's quite cool. Yeah, yeah. Which is actually quite stupid in Oklahoma because it's really hot and it was like he had like a fryer and a food truck. You're like, that's you could have served ice cream.

SPEAKER_06

Maybe he just really loves like being in hot environments, that's why he's a firefighter. Yeah, I didn't think about that.

SPEAKER_00

Like boiling sweating boiling oil in the middle of the day where you're like fires it for him.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, he just loves sweating, yeah, but definitely not an athlete on the side.

SPEAKER_00

Um, I think there's I do CrossFit, so a lot of the women are like EMTs, and but they're also not professional CrossFit people. CrossFit doesn't have any money in it, it has money for like two people. Um also is a sport that was made up two decades ago. So football's a little older. So if I wanted to go support the women's, would it is it usually like a Saturday or a Sunday thing? That would be such a fun Sunday activity because I think we saw a game on Sunday.

SPEAKER_04

It's usually a Sunday, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Like a Sunday go for like because it's I love that they're 90 minutes. Um did you how do you like the water breaks? Was that like an advertising? I didn't understand advertising vlog.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

America.

SPEAKER_06

Did you notice how the commentators are like, oh, now to the last quarter? And I'm like, oh stop that happened.

SPEAKER_04

That cannot happen.

SPEAKER_06

Game's gone. Game's gone, putting in a quarters, yeah. Like NFL or something. Oh yeah. End of the first quarter, hydration break. Also, when you when they do that, I noticed when I was watching one of the games and the whole stadium just lights up being like power raid. Yeah, that was uh that was something that was super overwhelming when I was watching um the LA Sparks women's basketball game in LA was just like But they do that.

SPEAKER_00

So it's kind of it's bad, but it's also like that's how they're gonna get their money.

SPEAKER_06

Just but the hydration break is if imagine if you were watching that in America, it would just be adverts, like the game would just cut and it would just be adverts. Apparently it's five adverts.

SPEAKER_04

Is it apparently during it? But I think the heat's been crazy over there, so I think in some games, yeah, but I'm sure there's a stadium where there's like it's the roof comes over and it's air conditioned. Yeah, I think it's in Dallas. So do they need a hydration break?

SPEAKER_00

I don't know. I was in New York last week. Uh it was the Sweden playing somebody, but it was roasting. It was it was like you're like get off the pavement, it is very, very hot.

SPEAKER_06

It's so swampy and clammy there, isn't it?

SPEAKER_00

As well as in the summer. I could actually understand the hydration breaks. It was brutal, especially if they're like I guess they're in the evening, so it wasn't be direct sun, but fuck it was hot. Like I think it's hot today, but it's nothing like um, plus it's like all concrete. I'm surprised it's not an air-conditioned indoor stadium. That's that's very American of us. Come on. Um yeah, that's so good. I guess, yeah, advertising. It's like a do you have advertising for your podcast?

SPEAKER_06

No, we've had like sponsors before.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, we have had sponsors, but not like not like a fixed canad for it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, they like yeah, sponsors in the past have like helped fund us to get new microphones or you know, that kind of thing, so it just kind of keeps the podcast ticking along, but we've not been like squarespaces, yeah, you know.

SPEAKER_00

I because I I do stuff on social media and I'll have people like say, like, we'll pay you to do stuff, but I'm like, I can't with a straight face be like, have you tried Lucasade?

SPEAKER_06

What if it was something you really loved though? Or if like your favorite set of paints?

SPEAKER_00

Oh, well, I would just naturally talk about it, but they never reach out. People you like you want to reach out, they'll reach out like a monster energy drink. I'd actually I bet they're like they killed children in yeah, yeah, yeah, they are like, I don't want to know the ethics of this company. Um in your time of need. Yeah, I think with anything, it's creative endeavor, sports, whatever, just like the fun, the fun stuff. If you're figuring out how to fund it, it's is always interesting. Um, what I do like about living in Glasgow is it's it's inexpensive. So um, at least for like my art and everything, I my my costs are pretty low because I was doing it in London. So I guess how does that translate to football? It's cheap. Tell the players we're not gonna play, we're not gonna pay you a lot, but like you can get.

SPEAKER_04

There has in the last few seasons been people struggling to get tickets for big games, but there's a more corporate element, which is a big problem down south. Like you're not really seeing the average fan anymore. But up here I still think it was it was still quite local, but like still accessible to an extent, like you could still get a ticket.

SPEAKER_00

To a women's game.

SPEAKER_04

A women's game, but a men's game I mean is like a lot more accessible than say like the London teams, for example. Yeah, but uh women's games, yeah. Like but even like women's arsenal, are they are they already get tickets for that? I think they're no, do they play all their games at the emirates now? They do play all their games at the emirates now, yeah. I went to the first game of the season two seasons ago, but it was okay. It was okay, like managed to get a ticket.

SPEAKER_06

We went to Man City Arsenal women and it was it was like what was it like 20-30 quid? Oh if that's that yeah, so 20 quid or something like that and it was so fun. There was like DJs, live bands. We had like during the Arsenal women's game, yeah, it was great. Yeah, like there was and yeah, all the chants, like it was technically an away game for Arsenal, obviously. It was at in Manchester, but all you could hear was the Arsenal fans. It was so fun. They are pretty diehard, and like full like brass bands and things like that.

SPEAKER_00

But I think with the Arsenal fans, they're so diehard that they will show up for the women as well. Oh yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I think when Yews went to the Scottish Cup thing, I was in London for well, I went to see Riley O'Kiley bands that I loved growing up, and uh the Arsenal parade was on as well, which was just so fun to go to. Uh-huh. Like just to be a part of it. But there obviously the women's bus went by as well as the men's. But I saw so many people in women's arsenal shirts, like yeah, just dotting around London, and I was like, this is so nice, like just feels a lot more integrated.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh. So I'm really sold that I need to pick a team. I think it would be Glasgow City. I need to see how far it is to get to a game because that'll be such a fun Sunday activity.

SPEAKER_06

It's good. I also love that Megan's not really pitched for you to go to Celtic games, but I mean I guess you've been to one.

SPEAKER_00

But I feel like the Celtic games are all supported. No, the men's at least. Oh, the men's, yeah, yeah. But I also I'm not going to Kirkuntalok.

SPEAKER_04

I'm not even going to ask you to do that.

SPEAKER_00

I'm not even there'd have to be like somebody who picks me up and drives me up there and then tip drops me off.

SPEAKER_06

We will all be going to games though. So yeah, if we are, we will definitely message you. Yeah. Would like to come join you.

SPEAKER_00

Um, but yeah, Glasgow City. Is a football game something you can't go by yourself to and just show up and just be like, Yeah, I've got my I've got my myself a bother. Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, men and women's you've been to, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Um I feel like we always see people we know there as well.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, it's much it's a much smaller community than women's game. So we do tend to get to know people's faces or whatever.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, which is nice. Yeah, nice. And I think like for us, it's you know, talk about building the game, but we want to build a community as well. And it's like, you know, we do watch parties when there's way legs of like Scotland women playing, and we just I think want to like try and make just yeah, like you said in the pub last night in the Queen's Park Cafe, like we want to like have that for the women to be like we want to see the atmosphere like there were a lot of women who showed up too.

SPEAKER_04

Nice football, like I feel when I was young we did I can't remember like the exact ins and outs of it, but there was a kind of campaign thing in the paper or like stuff in the paper about wanting to get more women to go to games. Uh huh. Um and probably I don't obviously remember every game I went to when I was younger, but there wasn't as many women going. But now you would see like groups of women going with guys, or and there will always be people that have done that, but I feel like there's more visibility now, definitely, and it's not I think like I've never felt unsafe or like nobody's ever bothered me, or yeah, I've just chat to the guy next to me. I've never felt a little old or I've never had an issue. Like it is it is now, I think, particularly I mean worldwide, but speaking specifically about Glasgow, it is you do see a lot of women going and getting involved, and like with the World Cup there, you would have seen loads of old Scotland tops, and it's just like a normal thing in it.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, but I think yeah, I think definitely, and I was gonna say something that we're conscious of in the women's game that we think would help grow it. And maybe you can I don't know if you think this or not, but um I just think it's mental as we're two queer people, they've really not tapped into the pink pound like in Scotland. Like, why are you not like they obviously What is the pink pound? Like just as a very straight way the gay kind of coin, you know, like disposable income of rich of rich lesbians, or like that's a stereotype was like I. Yeah, like we like statistically, I think queer people have. More disposable income just naturally, yeah, because of less like family commitments, not everyone obviously, but there's just like the pink pound, which is like advertising stuff specifically for queer people for profit, and it's just mad that this like this whole uh product, which is women's football, who a lot of queer people play women's football, a lot of fans are queer women.

SPEAKER_04

It's just crazy that they've not just I done ripped ripped it specifically and been like we want your money.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

What would that look like? Like having specific advertisers.

SPEAKER_06

I think specific advertisers, I think like um doing like they should be doing so much more fun things during Pride Month, like getting, you know, like crossover events in with like gay bars, like there's so much opportunity. Do you know what I mean? I just am like maybe I should get a job as a marketing there. Just I'm like, why would you not? It's such an open goal, yeah. Football lingo, but it is an open goal of like easy investment. Your market is queer women, like go get them.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and they're just not. I guess the kind of it's it's still like the it's it's a world that's kind of like the straight men built it, and then the women made like a version of it, and they're kind of following the straight men pattern of it, which you're like, oh no, but that's not what it's a separate product, and I think there's a hesitation to say that.

SPEAKER_04

I think people are like, Oh, they you know, you can't crit you can't say it's different, it has to be held in the same regard as men's football. And I think sometimes that's what the general public feel is women foot women's football fans, is what we're trying to say. It's like it's the same, but it's not the same. Yeah, it's a different game. Like, you know, you said earlier, like it might be slower or there might be something. There, there's different elements to it that make it a different game, so therefore it may have a different audience.

SPEAKER_00

No, it's not that it's it's kind of what am I trying to say? It's it's almost like they're it's not it's though ah stupid words. Um it it's almost like this it's the straight man mindset, but it's on a women's sport, and then they're trying to like make it match when it's parts of it are, but also parts of it are completely different, and so what am I trying to Yeah?

SPEAKER_04

I mean, some of those players are mothers, or you know, they may need maternity leave, and there's obviously a whole that's just as an example logistically, it's a totally different game, really. Yeah, you know, in terms of like the players' needs, but like just it's just different, like it should be treated differently, I think, and marketed differently, and it doesn't need to be put in the same box, but I don't think we've got there yet at all. I think as you say, they're still trying to have like, well, that works there, so why does it not work here? Uh-huh. So you need to kind of separate the two a wee bit, they might be under the same umbrella as in the same club, but they're probably a bit different.

SPEAKER_06

Well, it's also different needs as well. Like the fan base is I think it is an entirely different product, and like Megan said, it's okay to say that it's a different product because it is like one, there's different investment in it, but also like people who attend the games, like you'll will have seen like there's a it's a lot more child-friendly. Like, do we need to start looking at like different like accessibility things for women's games? Like, why are people with accessibility requirements not going to men's games as much? Like, that should maybe change. Like, it flags up things that maybe people haven't thought about because it has just been like you know, that's a place where guys go and watch football, and now it's changing, and I think that's like a really positive thing that we should be looking at at how we do it differently, how we make it better, how we invite people who have never been to watch women's football or any football before. Like, how do we invite them and show them this is a good day out?

SPEAKER_04

You know, yeah, because it is a stigma, I think, particularly in Glasgow with football, um, that would intimidate people about going to a game, any game. Yeah, they think like, oh, I don't fit in there or whatever. But as you say it is different, like there there would be I think there's a place in football for absolutely everyone, but I understand the uh apprehension some people would have, but aye, it's it's uh more family friendly, yeah, less it's more chill. It's more chill, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

And it I mean it can also like get rowdy and things, but it's like nice to have space for that to happen, and um I feel like for the players as well, you know. It's really fun to yell.

SPEAKER_00

Really fun to yell. It's so fun, and you never get to yell in your day-to-day life.

SPEAKER_04

No, and you just get to scream at the top of your lungs. Isn't trying not to go off in a tangent, right? But I think that's what sometimes the boards of football clubs don't understand with football, is for me a very working class sport. Um, like that's me stereotyping. And I think it's a release for for people when they go at a weekend and that. Do you know what I mean? You're all in the same, you've all got the same goal for want of a better phrase. You all want like your team to win, you all like maybe know what's going on. Or the team to lose, or the team to lose, or whatever. And it's like a big release, like maybe you've had a stressful week or whatever, and it's like you're spending a lot of money to go, you know. A kit's really expensive, stuff when you're there is expensive, the ticket's expensive, the day out's expensive, but you want to go and do that. So when they see the club's not giving you something back, that's why there's so much frustration, and I think that frustration can be marketed by the media as like they're just bams, but it's like you don't really understand what place that holds in people's lives. Yeah, it is such a it's like tribalism almost. Do you know what I mean? Oh, I know, it's definitely tribalism. As you say, going there and shouting and getting it all out and then being like, obviously it's rubbish when your team lose, but when your team went, it's brilliant.

SPEAKER_00

You get to shout either way, you just go nuts.

SPEAKER_04

Ah, you get to shout the whole time. I think I just go to shout at the referee. It's so funny. Sorry, it's not right.

SPEAKER_06

They shouldn't be sponsored by Spec Savers. It's too ironic. I actually can't believe that when I'm sponsored.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, that is just read as a joke. That's written, that's just written.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Done that to yourselves. Specsavers have probably watched them and been like, get us on there. That's a hint that you're not taking. Yeah. But uh aye, some of the referees. Yeah, that's no start with the referee.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, no. But I do think sometimes I go just to shout at a referee and then I'm like, alright, I'll have that.

SPEAKER_00

So they have better referees or the are they the same referees? I would think they're the same referee. No, it's not the same.

SPEAKER_04

Um, although I think some of the I think it's not the same for like the top level. I know like the lower level men's leagues, I think, sometimes have the same referees as the women's league. I think they do mix, but um they wouldn't you wouldn't see them refereeing like a Celtic and Ranger's Darby or something like that. That would be like the top top level referees.

SPEAKER_06

Imagine getting into that. I don't think I could be a referee.

SPEAKER_00

You see the women's referees at the World Cup. Yeah, that was quite cool.

SPEAKER_04

And also the the What a hard job. Yeah, yeah, I know, you're just leaving yourself. Like, imagine the guy's all being like, oh she doesn't know what she's talking about.

SPEAKER_06

Imagine just after a game though, just imagine like a game where there's been a lot of controversial decisions made. Yeah, and then afterwards you're the referee and you're like going to your car with your keys just in the car parking.

SPEAKER_04

But remember that must be awful. When we watched, we went to sit so obviously you're a big Glasgow City fan, big Celtic fan. So that's like a derby for us when we go to the games. And last season there was a red card early on in the game for a Celtic player. There was two penalties, and I was just come back. Yeah, she'd just come back from injury, and I was like, She's got every every decision wrong. I was like, I cannot believe how but how wrong she's got this. And obviously, she's seen it in real time, like split decision, that's a red card, whatever. Setting jello was it, and then I went back and watched the highlights. I went, ah, she was right. Every single one she was right when it slowed down. So we've got the convenience on the TV, yeah. Like, oh actually, they're making this split decision, so they're going to be able to do it. And also, like the cameras are up here, so you can really and I'm like zooming right in to see that she touches the ball, and like nah, whatever didn't touch the ball, but they're having to just go yeah on the biggest stage. Imagine the World Cup final and its fine margins, like it must be so nerve-wracking.

SPEAKER_06

And there's some game I always think about uh Ailey Adams against City last season. We don't agree on it. I thought it was a foul, you thought it wasn't a foul, and then they scored out of it and cost us a lot. Yeah, but I'm like, that's um I love that we still have moments like that where we're just like, yeah. We were back and forth for ages, and we were just like, okay, let's just leave it then.

SPEAKER_00

Disagree, then let's move on, even with all the photos, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Like I just was like, No, that was too heavy, and you're like, No, it wasn't. I'm like, see it this bit here in this exact second, she touches the ball, you're like, No, and I'm like, and the ball was in the other direction, so it wasn't a those arguments. That's the one we'd probably not agree with.

SPEAKER_00

So whoever the referee was right that day. Yeah, we're tiebreaker.

SPEAKER_06

But whatever. Yeah, yeah. I waited for them in the car park.

SPEAKER_00

I did finally think of what I was trying to say, kind of okay. So me in the comedy world, men comp man comedy is like the official comedy. Oh right, and so when and then they'll have women comedy. So it's like comedy and then women's comedy, and it'll be like jokes about like women will make jokes about like their period or whatever, and they're like, whoa, it's women's, but it's it's our human experience that we're making jokes about, and it's to like half the population, but you're like, this is regular comedy, and then like their version of it. So I think it's like that kind of it's like they've got the man football, which is like the important football, and then like the women's version is just like but they're two separate things, and they're also both football, yeah. Of course, yeah, and they're of equal importance. It's just like one they gotta live with a little bit more of a head start because they wouldn't let women play.

SPEAKER_06

Well, well, that's also yeah, that's also one of the main things, isn't it? It's like how do you yeah, how do you catch up to something that was banned for so long from that wild and that Scotland were the last people to I think we still feel that.

SPEAKER_00

I think I know like when were women allowed to play football?

SPEAKER_04

72 was it in Scotland? Was it unbanned? Was it 72? I thought it was like 76.

SPEAKER_06

Could be. But I know that Scotland was one of the last ones in Europe. Yeah, I think it was the last one the last one, the SFA were like, or we could just not let them play, and everyone else was back playing football again. And I was like, that's so depressing.

SPEAKER_00

That's not even that long ago.

SPEAKER_06

No, no, and that's I think something that people forget, and also it like doesn't mean that they then suddenly started investing in women's football.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, they're like fine, we'll let you play.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I mean, even in the 90s, even probably now to an extent, it would have been stigmatised for girls to play football at school because they played for a boys' team, there wouldn't have been the setup, so you can't expect you know, a lot like boys are expected to grow up playing football most of the time, right? There's gonna be exceptions to that rule, but particularly like for me growing up in Scotland, uh in Glasgow or whatever, you see it a lot, young guys out kicking a ball or whatever. So they've got a head start that way at youth level as well. So you can't expect, I mean, when we play grassroots football, we play with people that are like our age in their 30s that have never kicked a ball. That is that would be more strange for a guy to have never even socially kicked a ball, really. There will be cases where they have, but generally, like there's a lot more out there, or there has been in the past a lot more out there for guys at youth level that then make them better. And women, I mean, look at the level of ACL injuries and all that. There's been little research done into things, they've not had boots that fit in properly, things aren't made for them. Like I do think that they've been hindered right up until I think now it's changing, and that's right. Like you want young girls to be able to go into our youth academy and get all the proper stuff and have a better chance, and it will only make like as an example, Scotland a better team. Yeah, yeah. But uh in the past they've been totally hindered, and they've probably not played until later or not had that elite level training until later. Yeah, the the finish finished product isn't going to be the same.

SPEAKER_00

I've heard about how they train the young guys because they'll be like itty bitty guys and they like go off to like leagues and get training and then they go back to their their local teams and they and they scout them from when they're teeny tiny. Oh, they're playing from young, like but I imagine women know to battle.

SPEAKER_06

Not really. They uh you know something that was also again sidebar, but my physio that I go to for my knee post-surgery, she was telling me because she does a lot of international like physio for teams, and she was telling me that uh she's really uh concerned about uh how someone like Laminia Mal's gonna turn out because basically they he's like been overplayed from such a young age that she's like he is ripe for a really bad injury injury. And she was like, it's kind of interesting because you see the women's side is like underdevelopment, lack of resources to help train young girls become really strong and fit, that they end up doing injuries that lots of ACLs and things. And she was like, But on the flip side, you're not letting like teenage boys fully develop, so all that's happening is you're like ramping up like muscle, like weight training, blah blah blah, and then over exerting them, not letting them rest enough, and then they end up getting injured. And she was like, So the balance in terms of football is still not there, because if they see a talent that's young, they're like, right, you on the pitch all the time, and you're like, That's not good.

SPEAKER_04

You know, so the demand from the fans, like they're going to watch that player. Like you look, for example, it's not really the same pal and Jeb, like inner Miami with Messi. I've seen folk have paid like hundreds of dollars to go, and if he's not been fit, they've kicked off, yeah, which is ridiculous, right? I was ridiculous because you can't expect, especially at his age, you kind of just expect him to play all the time.

SPEAKER_06

But was that not you when you went to see Women's Barcelona and Map, he was on the bench? No, Pateirus was.

SPEAKER_04

Um, but like I um vocal I I seen a guy was holding up a sign, can't remember who they were playing, right? And he was like, I paid $1,300 for this, and it's like, but Messi doesn't owe you to come. Yeah, he's injured or he's whatever, or he could be unwell. Like, it's the same like Luminia Mow, yeah, as an example, you know, you're going to see him, aren't you?

SPEAKER_00

Like what an embarrassing sign to hold up. I know, I know. Like, I'm an idiot.

SPEAKER_04

You obviously like made that. Like you sat down and made that and exposed yourself. Like, why did you do that for an MLS game?

SPEAKER_06

Well, yeah, that first of all, but also what did he make that at like halftime when he realised he wasn't coming on?

SPEAKER_04

Like, he's announced I had to do a press conference to be like he is not gonna play, like folk were paying crazy money to go or whatever. Which inner Miami have done well because that's I mean he's this church alone, he'll be making them a fortune. But I I'd imagine it would be a a similar thing with if he decided to go to Saudi to watch Ronaldo and he didn't play. Yeah, that's an example. Folk are making like a pilgrimage to go and see that one person.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, that's an interesting thing about women's football, I say, is um what I guess you've just named a bunch of people who just go to see one individual player, but in women's football, the trends that you see are people who tend to follow players more than clubs. Yeah, yeah. So like we're saying Alexia Pateus signing for London is huge. Like I would wear a shirt now, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

Which I would never probably have before. Well, I like Michelle Kang, so maybe to support that element of it, but definitely like if we go, I'll be getting a shirt with Pateus on it.

SPEAKER_06

Like like people who you know might be like a uh like a Man United loyal fan through and through, but then if the like the top player from there were to move to like Arsenal, then it's like bar, yeah, I need to follow my player, you know. Oh, that's interesting. Whereas I feel like in men's football it's like no, that's my club. Why would I ever wear a different shirt?

SPEAKER_04

You know, yeah, I like I wouldn't if it was like Scottish team to team. Yeah, it would depend too. That's a really special part for me to be like, oh, I would go and watch them.

SPEAKER_06

And also, I guess because of investment in women's football, you see a lot of um players jump between like hearts and hibs or rangers, which I'm you would just never think of that happening.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, I would be really if I it's not happening for a while if a Celtic player went to Rangers or vice versa, that would be very toxic. Like you're gonna see that this season, the Hearts and Rangers. I think I think that'll be a hell of a game the first time they meet. There's been a bit of jumping around, so I'm looking forward to that.

SPEAKER_06

But it's yeah, it's quite interesting how big that is in the women's game, and everyone's just like fine, whatever.

SPEAKER_04

You know, whereas yeah, like in men's game, it's like what Katie McCabe to Chelsea, that'll be an interesting one.

SPEAKER_06

Katie McCabe to Chelsea is an interesting one because she's an arsenal, like you know, she had her own song. We've got McCabe, Katie McCabe. Yeah, I don't know. And they she had a painting in the tunnel as well. I've got that they've covered it up, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

With Kim Little though.

SPEAKER_06

I know that's fine.

SPEAKER_00

Kim Little's my favorite. Anyway, I guess it is really hard because like I think of in America, I think like Shaq, you know, yeah, like they're like proper celebrities, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

But LeBron James, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

So I don't even know what team it's probably the Lakers, yeah. But then again, like the Knicks, that's the New York team. So I don't know they're big stars, but the Knicks is like a I think that's what you want. I think it's better to have the team. Logistically, I'm trying to think if I'm becoming a fan, I don't want to travel to see a person. I want them, I want to have my local team.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, you want to support the team because you they just go there every Sunday.

SPEAKER_00

Yes, it's a lot of like fucking Edinburgh, that's too far.

SPEAKER_04

McTominay are like Napoli? All right. Well, I I'll support like Napoli as well, right? But have done from before McTominy went, like have been over to games a couple of times. Yeah, um, and that as like a one club city, and I'm that like everybody just supports the same team, and it's I went to Bilbao and I went to a game there. That was that's an advanced very fun. That's fun. You have to be from the best country to play for them. Oh there's something you have to be, so like I know like the Williams brothers are really big there and things like that. Um, I would love to go to a game. I was actually looking at that for this year. I'd love to go to a game there.

SPEAKER_00

It helped that I have friends who had season tickets. Yeah. And they had two seats together at the very very tippy top of the stage. So you're like, wow, great.

SPEAKER_04

They played uh they played Celtic, my friend. Like well, for James Forest's testimonial, like two or three years ago when I went to that and it was class, like before the game, all the fans were out together, and there's quite a friendship with that team. Um that was a great, great night.

SPEAKER_00

I yeah, the Celtic Bilbao crossover is interesting. Yeah, is it the Catholicism?

SPEAKER_04

No idea. No idea.

SPEAKER_00

But it was a very because we there's no drinking in the stadium, which I think is interesting, but like uh we'd have like tapas and wine outside before it's much more.

SPEAKER_05

You're not getting that in the east end of Glasgow.

SPEAKER_04

We we went to we went to Napoli last season. Uh we went around the stadium like in that Napoli is like stereotypically affiliated with the mafia or whatever. I think it's just like sensationalism, and I was pure terrified.

SPEAKER_00

I was like, I mean the mafia was pretty bad.

SPEAKER_04

My dad was like, right, just shop. Like, I was like, all right, it's just literally Napoli fans and I'm pure but no.

SPEAKER_00

I wanted to say that Glaswegian fans have a similar application, right?

SPEAKER_01

The mafia versus the Glaswegian. Come on. What are they called? The the the young team? The young team, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I'd came on it to see that. Yeah, back in the stone at four corners. Yeah. Mafia.

SPEAKER_05

Fucking moon then. Oh, that's so funny.

SPEAKER_00

The young teams isn't football related though, is it?

SPEAKER_04

No, it's like in your area, yeah. From a different age, like I I don't know. Like I Dennis and Young Team, right? But you probably wouldn't get one for there, but you know what I mean? It's just like uh from a certain area, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

A certain low neighborhood. Yeah, and they would all just scrap each other.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

That's that's pretty much it. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

I just it's wild because I moved here two years ago. I and the area I'm in is very gentrified. So nobody's anything like that. So then everybody's like Glasgow's so scary, and you're like, Where?

SPEAKER_04

I think I if it would go out further, maybe you're not gonna get bot launch wind in the wasteland.

SPEAKER_05

Yeah, it's natural wine, yeah. It's a little pet nap.

SPEAKER_00

The the scariest moment I had was at the dog park in Green Park, and I was like, it was I have my dog, my big dog, and these guys came up and they're like, Oh, is she breed? Is she she purebred? She can she breed her, and I was like, Maisie, we need to leave right now. So my guard dog was the thing they were gonna steal.

SPEAKER_01

Maisie walk, walk, walk, was go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, don't make eye contact.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, you're gonna come to Spade. She is store model only, yeah. After after that incident, okay, she's spade.

SPEAKER_01

You're not gonna have little pimples and puppies in the box.

SPEAKER_06

Oh, that's so cute. Um, yeah, no, I feel like especially if you lived in London before Glasgow is just like a small city, it's not yeah, and in London, everybody people kept trying to steal your shit.

SPEAKER_00

You could never have your phone out, so I was like way more scared. I wasn't scared in London. They wouldn't hurt me, they would just take all my stuff. I would see it all the time with people biking by and like grabbing your phone. Um, but here they've got like little biker gangs, yeah. They're not stealing anything. Yeah, I heard that the scooters what they do is they deliver the drugs on scooters, on scooters. They have kids deliver the drugs and they don't wear a helmet because police can't chase a kid on a scooter wearing that doesn't wear a helmet.

SPEAKER_04

For safety reasons, I'm gonna go.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, so they can they were like, Well, that's the perfect person to deliver drugs in these children.

SPEAKER_04

I mean, I wouldn't be surprised at that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, we're like, that's clever, but also God.

SPEAKER_04

It's definitely a job to think about it. Bad use of child.

SPEAKER_00

Bad use of child, yeah. When I was young. The most aggressive thing I've seen here is the parking wardens. Oh, Jesus.

SPEAKER_01

We're like, like the kid on the scooter delivering drugs, you're like, no, no, no, parking. Parking, like the real criminals. And you're like, okay.

SPEAKER_06

Much like referees. Yeah. Horrible job.

SPEAKER_04

It's a horrible job. You would do that job. I know. I mean, everybody needs a job, but oof.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah.

SPEAKER_04

That must be an awful job.

SPEAKER_00

I don't even have a car. That's what but you like you get that when you see them coming, you're like, Yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I used to be like that as well before I drove, and then I'd be like, Oh my god, my bike. No, wait, it's fine.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's shocking in class going to it. Oh, it's not and it bus lane, so let's even get into that. We can have bikes over here, though.

SPEAKER_00

They do have the higher bikes, they're they're they're very fun.

SPEAKER_04

They're very fun. We took them over to Day, yeah. That was my first time on a bike since I was about twelve or something. Yeah, I was like, I can't. You went for an electric one. I was like, this isn't even. Yeah. Not even like the thing. I saw these handlebushers quite.

SPEAKER_00

They put new ones in too. They're like the new pink ones.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, they're so fun that we use.

SPEAKER_00

And they're very nice.

SPEAKER_04

I enjoyed it. I had fun. Good. After the first five minutes, I was alright. Yeah, you're sure.

SPEAKER_00

They're pretty, they're pretty bad. The ones before them were pretty bad. Oh, they were heavy. They're heavy, but I kept seeing them in the river.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, just or every now and again you'll see like an unbranded one that someone's just like still slowly slipping away. And I'm like, where did you get that?

SPEAKER_00

Well, you'll see them the line bikes in London. You'll hear the kids going on, but you have like click click click click click click click click click. That just means I didn't pay for it. Because it's not turned on, so it's click click click click click click click click click click click. And then they steal your phone and you're like, fucking. You're like, oh using you a pocket. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

That's so good. Um did you have Maisie when you're in London then?

SPEAKER_00

No, I got her up here. She's two years old.

SPEAKER_06

Oh so she's Scottish. She's Scottish.

SPEAKER_00

I mean, she's from Romania, but she's Scottish. We're both I need to get a shirt that's an immigrant.

SPEAKER_01

I think it'd be quite funny.

SPEAKER_00

I'd be like, no, but you not you. You're a you're an expat.

SPEAKER_05

I'm a trick there.

SPEAKER_00

It was really heartbreaking. A few weeks ago when they had the riots uh in the city center. I was like on a date. Oh, really? So I went to see the backrooms horror movie, and then it came out into like the riot. The horror movie did. I was like, it's a date I planned.

unknown

Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

I was like, let's go on a horror movie for our second date. And we never saw each other again. Yeah, because I like walk through like the all the people, and it was just like I just I just don't feel good right now.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, and also, yeah, like that's a good judge of a date, in that and what do you feel about what's happening right now? Yay or nay.

SPEAKER_00

Which side? No, uh the policeman from Greenock. He's actually really nice. Um, but that's not a good date. No, yes. And I actually had a guy when I was walking to it, he he asked me if I was, he's like, Oh, are you Mary Math? I was like, Yeah, he's like, You I've got my flag, are you coming? I was like, What? Oh, geez. I'm a woke liberal. If anybody's confused about that, I'm a very woke liberal. Everything I do is very and Cooper was I think it's because I said Specky Kunt and I got all different types of people. Fair. Specky Kunt is the great uniter of everybody.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

I feel like um I just yeah, Glaswegians really have a way with words, don't they? Yeah, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, so it's brilliant. It's absolutely brilliant.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, quite poetic.

SPEAKER_00

I do that. They shouldn't translate Shakespeare into Glaswegian. Into Glaswegian.

SPEAKER_06

Someone might read it then. Oh. True. It's speak for yourself. Yeah. Yeah, you're just off looking sad reading Shakespeare than we can imagine. I know.

SPEAKER_00

But the the quick wit of Glasgow, I think, is what makes Glasgow so unique.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah. What's your favorite thing that you've come across so far in terms of yeah, like this is on the spot, but like quick quitting kind of comments?

SPEAKER_00

Just the way that like something will happen, and then they're just like uh the way that they can insult them, like a heartbeat.

SPEAKER_06

Like I saw some guy like everyone's a drag queen in Glasgow, like they're just constantly beeping people.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and it's what was one? It's a guy who's like trying to shoot a goal, and some guy's like, Oh, take your time, Beckham. No doubt or in your own time, Beckham. In your own time, Beckham.

SPEAKER_06

I always love that uh if there if you work with somebody like others, you know, over the years I've worked with various guys who um have always tried to one-up conversations. Uh-huh. And then I always love that if if you've been to ten or reef, he's been to eleven a roof. I would be like a if you said that's such a good one.

SPEAKER_04

I'd know exactly what I'm saying. Oh one of them. That's such a such a simple one, but so good. And I also love if say I'm telling you a story and you go, Did you? Did you? That's like Did you? Did you? Like, I didn't think that I love that.

SPEAKER_00

Did you? Oh, they don't believe that you did it. Exactly.

SPEAKER_04

Did you? Yeah. So if I said to you like some stupid, I don't know. I went and played for Celtic the other day, did you?

SPEAKER_05

Did you? Well that's that's the part for you.

SPEAKER_00

You definitely won't let you get like a big head about anything.

SPEAKER_04

I remember James McAvoy talking like back in the day about he must have gone to the Oscars or something like that, or been nominated for a big award and telling his grand, and she was like, That's nice, son. Do you know what I mean? Like just not even I love they'll keep you humble. Yeah, that's true. That's very true. I think that's nice. I think it's good, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

But then all your people go down to London. Yeah, that's true. They were like, I need to go be bigger now. Yeah, I'm better than this.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

We're like, oh, the tall poppy's actually off.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, that's true. That is true. We do have a problem with that though.

SPEAKER_00

Keeping talent.

SPEAKER_03

Keeping talent, yeah.

SPEAKER_04

I think it's a lot better than it used to be. London used to be like the be all handle. It's a bit better here, but yeah, it's still so much in there.

SPEAKER_06

That's true. I feel like Glasgow music scene as well. Like it used to be you'd go to London and then I feel like there was in the 80s, 90s, everyone was just like, we're gonna make record labels in Glasgow. We're gonna keep talent, like of all the kind of big Glasgow bands that all still stayed in Glasgow. Yeah, but that was like a conscious thing to be like, no, fuck London. You know, yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

And now they fuck, they've been London now. Yeah, they're probably you do get really. Oh yeah, New York's I was just there and it's huge. It's just like like whatever you think is big, it's just like ten times bigger. Where it's almost what I like about Glasgow is there's like enough. Like I just like there's enough stuff going on. There's the people are nice, enough stuff going on. I can do what I need to do.

SPEAKER_02

It's fine.

SPEAKER_00

New York, you're like, I'm gonna waterboard myself with my favorite activities. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

Like, I also I feel like with I didn't get this in London, but I feel like whenever when I was in LA and when I was in New York, I was like, you just can't see the end of the city, and that freaks me out. Like in Glasgow, you can always see the hills, no matter where you are. You know, like if you were in the deep south side, you could get to the countryside in North Glasgow, yeah, easy walking, you know. And I feel like that's kind of terrifying that in this big cities, you're like, where does the city sound? Where am I? I wouldn't cope well. Again, Tructor. Glasgow's big enough.

SPEAKER_00

I'm excited. That's the one I was gonna make of it. Yeah, you're gonna look up a tructer, and it'd be like, Oh, it's real racist. I'll be never mind. I'll be your character. The intention, I think the intention matters a lot, so yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_06

You'll find examples. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01

What kind of tructer was your father or mother?

SPEAKER_06

Well, no, I was from Aberdeenshire, so uh they I mean they're just working class parents, but we just grew up in the countryside, so that's all so they didn't even have a farm. No, I didn't have a farm. You just farm adjacent. No, but I did uh partake in tatty picking holidays when I was little. What? You didn't get that down here, did you? What's that? Tatty picking holidays. Tatty picking. Yeah, which is like in October. Okay. So the reason that kids get time off in October in Scotland was to pick tatties, but now everyone just has October break. So tatty potato? Okay. I just kept saying tatty at you then. Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, like it's like a haggis. Tatty picking a wild haggis.

SPEAKER_06

But you had to yeah, but you had to go pick tatties, help the farmers.

SPEAKER_00

Did you really do that?

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, well.

SPEAKER_00

Wow.

SPEAKER_04

Chuckter.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, not you. I would be like, one done. Yeah, got my tatty.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, that's what I hope you're getting.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. Taddy picking picking.

SPEAKER_06

When well that when again this is getting really out of Glasgow, but in Aberdeen, sure, like my dad is really Doric, which is what you speak up in Aberdeen.

SPEAKER_00

Uh-huh.

SPEAKER_06

And uh my dad, if you asked him how he is, he'd be like, ah, pickin', which just means picking titties. Like just getting all the work.

SPEAKER_00

That's just oh okay. Like it's a lot of steps to get to what that means.

SPEAKER_04

I would never understand if I was up there. Or Chavanawa.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Chavanawa?

SPEAKER_06

Chavanawa. Just means working away. Chavanawat. Chavinawa. Listen, you could do like a whole like sub sabbatical where you moved to a different part of Scotland. It's probably not gonna happen. Unlearn the local languages, yeah. But tatty picking was a big thing in October when I grew up.

SPEAKER_00

You really had to go pick potatoes. Are there no like child labor loss?

SPEAKER_06

They're all delivering drugs now, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah, just no there's no tatty picking.

SPEAKER_05

What would you what would be the term?

SPEAKER_01

Megan Patties delivering drugs without a helmet on.

SPEAKER_06

Jeez, that's quite depressing.

SPEAKER_01

Which bring back tatty picking. Yeah, bring it back child labor.

SPEAKER_00

I guess because I grew up in a farm, but it was a pecan farm, like the tree nuts, and machines did everything.

SPEAKER_01

Um, an illegal Mexican immigrant, which is really bad.

SPEAKER_00

Um, yeah, they would hire immigrants to do all the picking and everything, and then get mad that they were there. And you're like, okay.

SPEAKER_04

Who else is gonna work for nothing this year? Yeah, children.

SPEAKER_06

Children, yeah. My tiny hands picking up tatties from under the ground, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

You have to like dig them up.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, rummage.

SPEAKER_00

Wow, that sounds like an activity my mom would have me do just to keep me occupied so I wouldn't annoy her.

SPEAKER_06

Idle hands. I wouldn't pick tatties. I wouldn't pick tatties for two weeks.

SPEAKER_00

I think they did, they had me pick pick pecans, but there's a tractor that picked them up, and so I think they had me pick them up because it just I they're like for every pound you pick up, you get a dollar or something like that. And I was like, What'd be a million dollars? I was like, we're gonna be falcon rich. Let's go.

SPEAKER_06

You're like, and what did they do they sell them on after?

SPEAKER_00

Or did they sold them? They sell them, they sell do it. My brother runs the farm now.

SPEAKER_06

That's so amazing.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, he's uh whenever I call him, he's an attractor. Tructor.

SPEAKER_01

Picking beacons? No, he did just usually spraying pesticides.

SPEAKER_00

Except now they have like laser technology where they can like spray just the tree, where back in my father's day they just dumped pesticides everywhere.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah. It's different time, different time, different time. Yeah, yeah. Well now we have lasers that pick just the tree to spray it on, which is wild.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, that is crazy. So it's his old tractor is air conditioned inside, and he's got like, you know, it's got like screens and everything. Yeah, like heat maps and things.

SPEAKER_06

None of that up north.

SPEAKER_00

I've actually bet they if they use any kind of farm technology, they probably do now.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, they probably do now, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Because it's just in the machines.

SPEAKER_06

So that's interesting.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah. Um I think we can stop the podcast. Yeah, sorry, it's going really into the better than the tractor technology. It's also they've made it so it's kind of you have to pay that specific tractor brand to fix it. So if not anybody can yeah, so and you have to have like system updates and subscribe for your tractor. Anyway, that's a whole other podcast, which my brother would speak to better because that's actually the end of my knowledge.

SPEAKER_05

That's when you'll be like, all right, okay, bye.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, John Deere Green tractors. John Deere Green. You have to subscribe to anyway. It's anyway, that's not my hil to die. I'm gonna go find a local team.

SPEAKER_06

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Uh I think Glasgow City.

SPEAKER_06

I think it should be Glasgow City. What do you think, Megan? Yep, Glasgow City.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, and Maisie can go.

SPEAKER_06

Maisie can go.

SPEAKER_00

What I like about the games is it's 90 minutes. Yeah. Well, I guess it's with a break in the middle.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, like a 15-minute break, but that's fine. Yeah, get a pie. Yeah, a terrible pie.

SPEAKER_00

One at Hampton Park was fucking awful.

SPEAKER_04

They're better. They are better. Lambian pies are terrible.

SPEAKER_00

What they should do is they get the like a food truck that is like a bougie kind of pie.

SPEAKER_06

I agree. Yeah, yeah. We've spoke about this many a time, haven't we? We want food trucks, we want good coffee, we want oat milk.

SPEAKER_00

Well, I mean, if you're gonna have a small stadium, I guess the benefit would be a spot. You could have a food truck there, right? Food food, like stadium food's notoriously bad.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, but you still buy it.

SPEAKER_00

It's like bad and expensive.

SPEAKER_06

It's like going to the cinema and you like just go buy popcorn, even though you don't need it. Yeah, say that, but with pies.

SPEAKER_00

I would get a hot dog. And then they wouldn't let me like put the toppings on. They were like, we'll pick the toppings for you. And I was like, get tough. What did I let me do my toppings? It was. I was like, girl, that's not that too much mustard. They're gonna eat it for you as well. Yeah, you had to, it was at the the View Cinema. They they wouldn't let me do my toppings. I guess they couldn't people couldn't be trusted with the toppings for.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, maybe.

SPEAKER_00

Which is actually quite unsanitary. Anyway, this is also not a hill. Okay, we're gonna just stop the podcast. Now it's really nice having you guys. Where can they find wait, where can they find you podcasts and all of that?

SPEAKER_04

We are on all major, like Spotify, Apple Music, on all those things, and on Instagram at underscore the sideline podcast. I'll tag everything. Yeah, all the links are on there for finding us.

SPEAKER_06

Yeah, follow, subscribe. Um yeah. Go support your local women's club.

SPEAKER_04

Yeah, okay. Thank you so much.

SPEAKER_05

Thank you. There you go. Bye.
