SPEAKER_01We've been on a journey today to get all of our audio set up and everything.
SPEAKER_02But we're here now. Thank God, truly. And we're here to talk about some truly monumental pop culture moments that I can't wait to get into. Mm-hmm. So should we just dive right in? Let's dive in. The thing I'm sure everyone wants our opinions on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelsey's wedding. It just happened. Literally just happened, hot off the press. Thank God we had audio issues. We wouldn't have gotten this news. Live reactions are so important. Cheers to the Royal Wedding. Cheers to the Royal Wedding.

SPEAKER_02Okay. So let me just read you hot off the press the Tree Pain press release. Tree Payne is Taylor Swift's publicist. If you didn't know, now you do. Now you have them. The bride and groom's wedding ceremony looks have been created by Christian Dior Haute Couture. They are designed by Jonathan Anderson, creative director of Dior's Women's, Men's, and Haute Couture collections in close collaboration with the bride and groom. This is the designer's first couture wedding dress for a world-renowned celebrity. Their shoes were custom-made by Christian Lou Vuitton and the bride wore carte jewelry, her rep said in a statement. Taylor and Travis did not have bridesmaids or groomsmen. Instead, her brother Austin Swift served as Taylor's man of honor, and Jason Kelsey was Travis's best man. Their ceremony joined both families together and was officiated by friend Adam Sandler.
SPEAKER_01That's right. Adam Sandler. Adam Sandler. Officiated. I'm really curious to know who's going to be the musical performers. Well, rumored Stevie Nicks. Stevie Nicks. Which is iconic, amazing.
SPEAKER_02I've also seen Tim McGraw. Also iconic, amazing. And then the chicks posted a random picture of themselves, and people were speculating they're also performing. That's fantastic. Yeah. I mean, she could choose literally anyone, but I do hope for a Stevie Nicks appearance. That feels right. It feels right, and it would be very romantic. Very romantic. And beautiful. So there has obviously been a lot of talk and controversy and opinions about this wedding. And I'm gonna preface everything I'm going to say.
SPEAKER_01Oh, we have opinions.
SPEAKER_02With the fact that I do identify as a Swifty. Yeah, same. I went to the Airs tour multiple times. Same. I think I bought her debut album. I have the original lyrics to Picture to Burn. I won't say them what they are on the podcast, but if you know, you know. So I've been a longtime fan. I'm not here to defend Taylor Swift, but I do have some thoughts on the discourse that I've been seeing. Mainly that it's all annoying.
SPEAKER_01As discourse is related to her. I'm later to the Swift fandom in the last few years, but I'm I'm here and I've arrived and I'm on the side of being annoyed as well. But I want to know why you're annoyed, and we can compare our annoyed notes.
SPEAKER_02Well, a lot of this I think is stemming from the same group of people that had a lot of opinions, a lot of negative things to say when her last album came out, which hand on Bible, I'm not a big fan of, which is fine. There are some bangers, but definitely not in my five fave for albums. But this I think is where a lot of times people on the left lose the plot. They are just getting so far being obtuse about their opinions and harping on a woman who's just trying to live her life. Like all of the opinions I've been seeing is oh, she's so self-obsessed. This is so tacky to have it at Madison Square Garden, which I don't maybe think I inherently disagree with, but I have not seen one of these people have anything to say to Travis in response to this. It's all about how horrible I didn't even think of that. Taylor is as a woman, these are her horrible choices. Shame on her. Maybe this is his dream. Yeah, shame on her for only donating $26 million. Only. But it's never all the arguments. Sometimes I don't even have $26. So I mean, same. And so that's just for her. That part's just really annoying. Let's be equal opportunists. There are two people, it takes two people to tango. And it's not just her calling the shots here. Like, no, it's he's half of the problem.
SPEAKER_01I think people really like to dislike her. Yeah. Because the thing is, is we if you really don't care about something, or if you're not, if you're not like triggered about it, you're just apathetic. You don't care, who cares? It's over, like whatever. But there's reasons that I've thought about this so much with Taylor Swift because I was like kind of on not a hater side, but I was on the side of like, what's the big deal? I don't get the hype. I like some of her songs. It's cute, she's cute, we're done. That's what I thought before I knew the the breadth of the music. I the lore and all of and I went to the AirStor in Scotland, changed my life amazing, and then went to the one in Vancouver. So I'm full in. You went to Vancouver? I did. Last minute. We got tickets, my sister-in-law and I got tickets for that were sold that week behind the screen.
SPEAKER_02I wanted to do that, but I couldn't con any of my friends into joining me. This is so sad.
SPEAKER_01Well, I went and I was pregnant, six weeks pregnant, and I drove. And we didn't stay the night over there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm saying. Dedication. And I get the lore now, and I have a few thoughts. Share them. If we can go on a little tangent about the Taylor Swift trid, I get the side of it that's like she's got like a corny side and a whatever, which is true. I have a corny side. She's so cringe. She's a millennial woman like me.
SPEAKER_02That's I'm a white millennial woman that is canon of being a millennial.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Exactly. If you are a white millennial woman, you are cringy like Taylor Swift. And it's gonna be the same for the next generation and the generation after that. It's fine. She's just a girl. And I think that I've I think she's a bit of an enigma, and people can't put her hand there if they want like all of our female pop stars, and it's no shade on the other on people I'm thinking of, but they want them to be these like doll-like humans with fake lips. I have fake lips. This is no shade on fake lips, but like very fake looking, very Barbie looking, very like sexual. And she's kind of doesn't really super fit into any one of those categories super well. And I think people don't know what to do with her because as women, we need to know what to categorize people as.
SPEAKER_02I think just in general, it's easier for us to categorize things and put things in boxes to make sense of the world.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And because she's a bit of an enigma and in s and she is in a lot of genres and kind of doesn't have great fashion style. She really doesn't. And whatever. Some of my people in my life that I love so much don't have good fashion style. So I'm like, why it and in with women, we don't dissect these things with men in all these different areas. And so I think because we can't categorize her, especially as a woman, we get very uncomfortable with her if we're not in the lore and in the presence. But once you're there, you're there and you can't go back. Yeah. So for those of we're all new listeners, because it's our first weekly episode. We you have come to a safe space for Taylor Swift lore. Yes. And safe. If you don't like Taylor Swift, that's okay. But you might not like this podcast very much because we will talk about her a good amount.
SPEAKER_02Not necessarily not liking Taylor Swift, because you don't have to. We can all or dislike people. It's I have an issue when people actively put energy toward the dislike. The dislike. Yes. Like you were saying, if you don't like her, great. Move it along.
SPEAKER_01And have a reason. Yeah. My thing is if I don't like someone, I need a reason. Have they done something really problematic? Have they does their music suck? What's the thing I don't like about them? And then I can be like, okay, that's why I don't like them. Yeah. But if you just don't, that's a reason to examine yourself and be like, why does this person bother me so much? Why does this person trigger me so much?
SPEAKER_02Oftentimes I feel like that's then reflecting inward of some area of your life that you feel inadequate.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Right.
SPEAKER_02Like it very is.
SPEAKER_01I think she's very confident being herself and not playing up to trends and societal things and whatever. And I'm sure she's guilty like anybody else, but and I think that when a woman or a person, but especially a woman, is very confident in just their authentic self and shows up like that unapologetically, it's very triggering for people that can't that don't have that necessarily themselves.
SPEAKER_02Yep, absolutely. So yeah, it's her wedding day today. The other thing that is filling me with rage about this whole wedding situation is the discourse around her being a billionaire. I will be on the record, I will say, yes, she's on the record. There's no ethical billionaires, there's no real ethical way of becoming a billionaire. But if you're gonna have that energy for her, let's please be equal opportunists and have that energy for everyone else. The like I was saying, kind of the the white women that are spearheading their liberal woke crusades on the internet that I think are going or really have lost the plot. Well, you go so far that you go back to full-on conservative. Yeah. It's like they where's this energy? I'm sorry, for Beyonce. Yeah. Love Beyonce obsessed. Also, her and Jay-Z are billionaires, but she's not out here doing all the things that you're mad at Taylor Swift for not doing. So I just think that the Taylor hate is so forced and move it along, people.
SPEAKER_01It's because there's, I mean, she says it, she keeps her side of the street clean. Yep. And people want. And the other thing I've noticed, and this is not just about her, but public discourse in general and social media discourse, is we get a lot of attention for being the one to uncover something negative or being the one. And so everyone wants to be the one to uncover that thing about Taylor Swift that like is going to be the thing that gets her canceled. And so they're like thirsty to be that person because it gets you a lot of attention. Yeah. And it's maybe she's just kind of an unproblematic, mostly person and is flawed like anybody else. I think the discord around her being her being a billionaire is really annoying because, yeah, unethical to be a billionaire. However, we're all doing unethical things. I purchase these on Amazon. I'm sure I'm doing unethical. The amount I purchase on Amazon is not even cool. But we live in Seattle. You can alone. We live in Seattle. We can get stuff, I'm not kidding, day of anything. You don't need to go to the hardware store, the grocery store, like literally. So I'm up Amazon's asshole every single day. I'm sure I'm hurting the earth left and right. Jeff Bezos thanks me. And he thanks me. And that's just my truth. And I'm out here trying to be an environmentalist in certain ways, and then I'm ordering on Amazon every day. So keep your side of the street clean.
SPEAKER_02It's impossible. It's just impossible. There's no winning for her. Yeah. When she was no winning. When she was a single gal, she was desperate and only single because she only wrote love songs. Then when she got with Travis, it was all a PR stunt and Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Well, she and her he she owned the NFL at that time, remember? That's what the people were saying. Because it's scripted somehow. Somehow throwing a ball with physics into the air with wind and factors you can't control is scripted. Yeah. According to Tayvodu, as the internet says. Oh, I didn't know that one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, well, I can teach you some things about Oh, I'm I can't wait.
SPEAKER_01So what else do we know about the wedding so far? Okay, it's 6 20 p.m. We're on July 3rd. So we are on wedding day. So this is like breaking news is coming out. We're getting it actively. Where are we?
SPEAKER_02I did. This is my personal theory. I have no reason to believe this. I've seen nothing. But my soul tells me that they were married before today.
SPEAKER_01Makes sense.
SPEAKER_02Like maybe in a smaller ceremony with just their immediate family. And then this was just the big celebration with literally every celebrity under the after party. Yeah, but like I said, don't ask me where I got that. It came from the depths of my soul. I think the juiciest thing that I've seen so far is the fact that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were spotted upstate New York, several hundred miles away from Madison Square Garden. So I think that's the rift of her friendship with Blake.
SPEAKER_01I would have been more shocked if they were there than not at this point because of what we know. However, you never know what's going on behind closed doors. Carly Kloss is there, and we all had theories about that, and maybe they've made up or whatever since her look. We haven't seen that many looks. We've only seen a handful. Carly. She mean she's beautiful. Obviously, she's a model, but you know, she's if she wasn't beautiful, it would have been a problem for me. I was like, wait, what? I was confused. I get what you're saying. She, I mean, I think that act that the material of the dress she was wearing and the construction, she looks perfection. Yeah. And I am so excited to see what everyone's wearing. I what I'm most interested in is how did they make this venue? I have been in denial that this is the venue. I have been absolutely in denial and and not I this is a big this is like the royal wedding for me, right? Yeah. I have been completely ignoring everything because I have been just like, this can't be their venue. This can't be their venue. But I also have faith, as a person who attended the Ares Tour twice, that knowing the set design and knowing how we can transform this huge stadium into this intimate, amazing thing that feels so good. She has the best of the best designers and whatever. And I cannot wait to see photos of like how what did they what do you mean they have it at MSG? What do you mean they have it? Can you remove the seats? Can you what are we doing with this venue?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. The idea of MSG on face value, tacky, and I hate it. Hate. However, it's a blank canvas. She has as we discussed, all the money in the world to make it into whatever she wanted. And New York has everything you could want. So everything is you're not in some remote place where you can't access stuff. I think from obviously a security and safety standpoint, it probably was a smart move because it's a very smart move. No matter where it would have been, there would have been drones and helicopters and horrific. That's horrific. And it that is what actually makes me sad. Like I've moved past annoyance and feeling like it's a tacky to say. Because you wanted to have a drone, you had a drone ready. And then it makes you socket. Because I I don't think in any world this would have been her first choice for her wedding location. Absolutely not. So that thinking of it that way.
SPEAKER_01She's a woman of the woods. A woman who has bangs like that does not have an MSG wedding. I'm saying this with bangs.
SPEAKER_02I have seen a theory online that she was growing out her bangs for the wedding. Because this is interesting. If you look at not her Instagram, because she doesn't really post, but pictures of the time, the appearances that she's been out in public over the last two, three months, the bangs are always slightly different. Yeah. Sometimes the bangs don't match the color of the rest of her hair. Sometimes they're coming from way farther back on her head, and sometimes they're up closer to the forehead. There's a theory, conspiracy theory online that it she hasn't actually been wearing a clip-in bang and she's been growing out her hair for the wedding. So I'm curious to see how to get a full forehead.
SPEAKER_01Because I am also a woman who is a forever bangs person. And the times that I don't grow up that I have bangs without bangs, I feel sad for myself. And I just feel like she's the same.
SPEAKER_02You can't be lying to these people. You just cut the bangs for this podcast.
SPEAKER_01I cut the bangs for this podcast. After by the way, one year ago I had a baby, okay? And I thought I could be this clean girl, middle slick. But now it just became hairs over here, forehead recession.

SPEAKER_01I don't like her without bangs. I have You haven't seen her without bangs in so long, though. The photos I've seen are not good. She needs bangs. I'm saying this as a retired professional. She needs bangs. She needs bangs for a few reasons. Okay. Her forehead. Okay. I'm also have a big ass forehead. It's fine. What do you think about this big ass forehead right in front of me? It's not, you know what? It's not, it's not a big forehead. It's not the same. Oh.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna clip that and sell it to my family because I get roasted all the time for my giant. They need to know. Okay, great.
SPEAKER_01Also, Taylor Swift needs bangs because they give her a style with her hair. She doesn't have color, she doesn't have anything else. They give her a frame and a style, and it's her signature. I think it matches her earthy undertone vibes. She just needs them. And I would love, I hope she's a bride with bangs. I hope we don't see some Hailey Bieber middle part, whatever. Not to say she I she's beautiful.
SPEAKER_02She's not a slick backbone girl.
SPEAKER_01I hope we don't see a try hard version, which we've never seen before on her. In fact, we've seen the opposite, where it's like you could try a little harder sometimes. Bless her. Same. But like I want to see her. I have seen her lately with the bangs, and I think they're looking really good. Yeah. And I want I want her to have an updo and I want it to be bangs.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why she didn't call you for her hairstyling.
SPEAKER_01That's what I'm wondering. Yeah. Or my BFO Kaylee in New York, who could have done her hair. Not that she hasn't had anyone do her hair for, you know, but maybe she did and she's been under NDA and you just don't know.
SPEAKER_02So true. Things might come to light. That's all I'm saying. Woop Alright. Any other thoughts on the Tavis of it all?
SPEAKER_01No, I think I'm gonna have a lot more thoughts when we see pictures.

SPEAKER_02Her her style choices just sometimes make me nervous. Yeah. So nervous. Crossing my fingers that I mean, she I'm sure looks like that.
SPEAKER_01I think Dior is very classic. Yeah. And very tailored, classic, and I think it's gonna be really good. Great. I would be nervous if it was like for Sachi or something like that that could be like a use there's a lot more room for user error in that scenario.

SPEAKER_01Tacky. Yeah. I I want to see this. I'm putting this out there because I just want it said. This is what I want to see. I want to see low bun, bangs. I want to see, I could see a beautiful off-the-shoulder. Ooh, yeah. Full off the shoulder. Yep. Sleeve. I want a sleeve for her. And because I think she has a really nice neckline, and I feel like that would be really pretty with the hair up. And then maybe a buttery cream color dress. Okay. Really pretty silk would be nice. Fitted bodice. Yeah. Really pretty big diamond necklace that's worth $2 million. Yeah.

SPEAKER_01Giant, like a yellow diamond or something. Would be really pretty. Like how to lose a guy in 10 days. Very that. Okay. I would like to see of a we could do a little bit of a high slit and for the ceremony, a long, long drama in the back. This is what I'm putting out there.

I was so excited I'm out of Celsius or almost. Um, other big news that's happening right now, the World Cup.
SPEAKER_01Yes. It's very relevant here in Seattle because we are one of the we're one of the hosts. Yeah, it's been the energy's been really fun. I was I think it's been fun. I wasn't I was worried because I was worried of traffic, a bunch of drunk people everywhere, and it's been like fun, people representing our country and excited.
SPEAKER_02That's been my favorite part, is just seeing all of the countries and cultures colliding. So we started off strong with the Scots in Boston. They drank Boston bars dry out of beer, which great, made money. They were putting traffic cones on all of the historic statues around the city. Great. We love, I loved the Japanese fans in Texas eating barbecue for the first time. I saw a Japanese man guzzle a buzz ball. He didn't know what that was. That's crazy. The big or the small one.
SPEAKER_01I think it was a small one, so thank God for him. But I get scared for the big ones. When I was a drunk person, I never did the buzz balls. I did it once and I was like, this is a n and and for me to say that, that's really saying a lot. A drunk person.
SPEAKER_02And then the Koreans in Mexico. The Koreans in Mexico. I saw Koreans doing keg stands, but they do like to drink. But they were drinking t it was tequila kegstands. That's fucking crazy. So I it's just Been so fun.
SPEAKER_01That's almost as crazy as the episode of Real House Who's Salt Lake City I watched yesterday where What's Her Face Whitney ordered a espresso martini with tequila? Is that crazy?
SPEAKER_02I have a handful of friends that do that.
SPEAKER_01That's disgusting.
SPEAKER_02Now, I don't drink espresso martinis because even really good tequila.
SPEAKER_01I've had the best tequila you could have, and I can't even imagine that inside of an espresso.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, caffeine and I do not mix. I mix very well with it. Even though I love her. I just I just drink the Coke, so we'll see how this goes later. So I can't really imagine drinking espresso with alcohol, but especially espresso with tequila. That's crazy.
SPEAKER_01But I can, and it it's disgusting sounding. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Well, noted. Don't do that, folks. Don't do it. But the but I've been out of the game for four years, so the gag of all of this, of the World Cup, personally, that I find funny, is that we have the White House, people on the right saying, oh my gosh, see, people come to America, they're loving it, don't believe everything you read or see on fake news, ha ha ha. All of these people are coming to cities that Fox News and the White House call hell holes. Yep. So they are experiencing America, but they are experiencing liberal cities and loving the things that American cities provide. They're not out in the middle of nowhere Midwest. I'm from Wisconsin, so I can say that. Yeah. Or allowed. So it's just again, classic. And this isn't necessarily the topic or forum at this time to really dive into all of those thoughts, but it's just classic them wanting to have their cake and eating it too. Nope. Yeah, they're coming here and loving it and having a great time, but not for the reasons that they're trying to say. No, not at all.
SPEAKER_01I think it's just a classic example of people don't like when foreigners are here and they're gonna find a reason to not like it. Yeah. I'm not on World Cup um, you know, TikTok vibes or anything like that, so I haven't seen that Discord, fortunately, because that would piss me off.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I can catch you up sometime, but it's frustrating, but also so heartwarming to see everyone just having the best time with each other.
SPEAKER_01By the way, sometimes I'm like, do you all not? I mean, we have some fucked up shit in America, okay? That's putting as scary places. We there's a few down the street from my house. But a lot of these people are coming from also places that have a lot of scary places. So Yeah. The math ain't mathing. Yeah. There's enjoyable places in America, and very many of them. Yep. And that's great. That's great. We love it. And, you know On this 250th anniversary of what is it, Fourth of July? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. God bless America, as they say. Have you been, you know, following the US men's national team in the tournament at all?
SPEAKER_01If if you mean following by my brother said go America yesterday in our group chat. Oh. That's my extent of following. Okay. And I think that meant that they were playing and did something good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, do you want me to catch you up a little bit? Okay. So I don't know if you know the history of the US men's national team. Sounds like probably not. I don't know a lot, but in general, they have not been great historically. I do know that they are not that bad. And then especially juxtaposing them to the U.S. women's national team who They have been good. Have been good. They've won multiple World Cups, have won multiple Olympic gold medals just in my lifetime.
SPEAKER_01I just remember um the shirt coming off. That's all I know. Yes. And that means that something good happened.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So cutting into this World Cup, there was obviously some doubt, some unsure feelings about how this team was going to do. And how the World Cup is set up is you are in a group stage first. So you are in a pool of essentially you and three other teams, depending on how those games go, you make it out of the group stage into tournament play, which is what many people think of when you just think of a tournament. You have one game against one team. You lose, you're out. If you win, you advance. But after the US's first group stage game, they played Paraguay. I believe they won 4-0, as they say. 4-0. They say in the biz. Shocked everyone. And that's when people starting to be like, okay, this team might actually have a legitimate shot to make a good run. And that's turning out to be true. Go America. Yeah. So they played our first elimination round game. I don't think it was yesterday. I think it was the day before. Maybe I'm getting my days mixed up. But we played Bosnia and Her. I'm my gosh, I'm gonna butcher this country's name. It's Bosnia and Herzkovonia. That's I've never it's respectfully, I've never heard of her. And it's that makes me sad for myself. It's where Diana Jenkins from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills was from. If you remember her, One Season Wonder. I don't. Oh my gosh. She's the one whose husband was that singer and they hosted the holiday party, and then Erica Jane was drunk. Why do I feel like I'm getting that mixed up with David Foster? That also happened in a very similar way. Again, we'll circle back later.
SPEAKER_01I'll get you up to speed. I'm sure I've seen it, but it's, you know. So we won the archives. I'm not as I I don't have the archival knowledge that you do. That I admire. It's a heavy burden to bear, you know.
SPEAKER_02We won that game with the player down, because one of our our our leading scorer of the tournament got a red card. If you get a red card, you're ejected from the game, and you don't even get to play the next one. Feeder Zane, as Heidi Klum would say. You've been alphed. That's a reality TV deep cut. Love it. Project runway for those of you that don't know. But yeah, our top scorer got a red card with 30 minutes left. We ended up winning 2-0. And we play here in Seattle on Monday against Belgium. Yeah. See?

SPEAKER_01It's very fun. I've been I've been strictly on gardening TikTok and Love Island. So I I could expand. Fair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um but one other thing piece of the World Cup that I think you would like is Norway's team. Okay. Norway has not qualified for the World Cup since 1998, I think. That's a long time. Long time. Decades ago. Decades, if you will. And they qualified and they made it out of group play. And they have a very endearing chant because they're like Vikings. Are they the hottest team? Um, I mean, the Nordic men are very attractive. I would think. They're tall, they're blonde. There's a player called Erling Holland. Who kind of gives Neanderthal. He's just so big. But sometimes the hottest guys have a little of that understanding. He's just so big, and I think if you're that big, you just move in a way that gives not fully human. I don't know. It's crazy. Again, we'll catch we'll catch you up later. But if you know Erling, he's crazy.
SPEAKER_01How do we spell Erling? E-R-L-I-N-G. That's pretty close to our name. So I feel a kinship with this one.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and he's blonde.

SPEAKER_01It's time. Okay. Take it away. It's taken over the nation. I want everyone to know. You heard it here. My closest friends will tell you. I have watched Love Island since season one, UK. Okay. I have seen most seasons, most episodes. I am not watching UK this year, which is very unfortunate. It's tragic because it is so much better this year than this. So much better always. Yeah. I can't do it because I like, and not to be this person because I hate it when people are like, oh my God, I'm so busy, but I actually just do not have time to do it, which sucks. Love Island USA was so bad for the first few seasons. I still watched it. But once they adopted the formula that they do now, which is exactly the British formula, it's great. I feel like it's my patriotic duty as a person who feels a little annoyed sometimes at our government to watch the USA. And vote in elections that matter. Such as the Love Island app.
SPEAKER_02I did see a tweet, or I guess it wasn't a tweet. It was a thread earlier. I read it to you that was like, thank God the US beat the British 250 years ago so that we get Love Island US and Love Island UK every year. 100%.
SPEAKER_01Well, and so my I got my husband into Love Island, and that's been it's been a great bonding time for us, but we decided that we're gonna watch it after this season. We're gonna watch UK after. So I will be up to date eventually, but I could never have a season of Love Island go by and not watch it. UK I mean UK is just the one. It's where I I know every accent from whatever. But where we where are we now with let's see? So we have we just got back from Casa more. Sure did. We oh we had movie night. Movie night. I think that so where we're at now, and probably by the time this comes out, obviously more will have progressed and whatever, but Kenzie got off easy. Yeah. I think that her movie night let her off the hook. Yeah. I think she's as bad as sincere.
SPEAKER_02Absolutely. I was actually texting one of my friends about this earlier. Kenzie is absolutely moving in the way that all the men in the villain are. She is giving fuck boy. She's giving fuck boy. I think the key difference though is that even though I think, yes, her clip didn't show the extent of everything that she's done and the sinister, spooky moves she's made behind people's back. She she took the feedback after the movie night. Like she was silent. You can tell when she was watching it, she was like, oh shit, this actually doesn't look good. She heard what people were saying, apologized right away. I didn't I did not detect an ounce of defensiveness. Obviously, we can debate if that was genuine and if she really believed it. Obviously, actions speak louder than words, so we'll see how she moves from here on out. But that was a big thing that I did pick up on because all of the guys, when they saw their clips, immediate defense mode, fought back. Most of them didn't take accountability or apologize.
SPEAKER_01Nothing.
SPEAKER_02Corbin did, but I think that's just because he didn't want to get yelled at. Yeah. He folded like a house of cards. So I did appreciate that of Kenzie, but absolutely how she's been moving is no different than how all of the guys have been moving that has annoyed this nation.
SPEAKER_01She this nation is amiss because of this woman. I think she's giving fuckboy to me because fuckboys lie by omission and they lie by not saying very much, and that's how she communicates, and that's how she moves. And what people like that do is they have you fill in the blanks and you make your own conclusions, and they kind of like invite you to do so, and then you are like, oh, it's fine, they're taking accountability, whatever. I will say, one thing I was impressed by, well, let's talk about how hilarious it was when Sincere said, they're just showing old clips. This is old news. I'm like, anything that's a clip of anything is old news. Also two minutes ago, it's old.
SPEAKER_02You know, this happens every single year. Yeah. So if you didn't want to get caught, why are you acting the way you're acting?
SPEAKER_01I think it's just ingrained in him. I think it's like a it's it's like a nerve that he just it's totally his knee-jerk reaction. I will say I I was very mad at Casey at first with his reaction. I really felt the genuineness of his apology when he came to Anaya 24 hours later. And it took him a long time. Not mature, not good. It's true. But I do feel that his apology was real accountability and real understanding of her perspective and not like because the whole time my problem with Casey is I want to like him. And but the problem is he's blamed he blamed Anaya for every little thing that happened along the way. And this was the first time that I really felt real character growth from him. So I'm like hopeful for him in the future. I'm scared for Zach and his insecurities. I again, I I want to like him. I actually do.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. In a quiet way. Yeah. No. He's gonna dim her. No one's mocking him. And also, he low key hates Trinity. Yeah, you didn't say that. I think that's true. He's jealous. He's jealous of how close her and Bryce are. He doesn't want to lose his relationship with Bryce to Trinity. It actually scares me at how no one is picking up on this. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01He's very good at that. And he's very insecure.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm nervous, and I but I want to like him. So and you're past that. And I love that for you. Sincere is a lost cause for me. Yeah. That should be a good thing. I think he's like, my therapist and I were talking about we talk about Love Island every time from a psychological take, as we should. And we both feel that Sincere is stuck in seventh grade for some reason. The way he talks, the way he moves, the way it's very seventh grade boy. So we're theorizing that he may have some, and he did hint to some past trauma stuff that he didn't elaborate on. And so I was, I want to know more about that because I feel like he's giving me an I find on reality TV who was the chick from Beverly Hills this past year that was the scammer girl money. She gives me that vibe too, like stuck in adultment phase. And I find that those type of people to be very fascinating and interesting to me. To me, Amanda was stuck in like call teen-year-old Barbie time or 10-year-old or something, even the way she talked and stuff. And I feel like Sincere is like that too. Not that it gives him a pass because it truly doesn't, but yeah. If you think about it, every now you're gonna look at it and be like, everything he says is a seventh grade boy.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah, I don't disagree. Well, the craziest thing out of everything that Sincere has said and done was after all of that, he was saying, Oh yeah, Melanie, she's probably gonna go sleep in soul ties, and all the guys are like, No, don't let her do that. You should sleep out there, whatever. And then he still slept in the bed. This guy. He's gonna ruin her life. And what's making me so upset? Why is everyone in the villa still telling Melanie that Sincere has good intentions? Thank you.
SPEAKER_01I said that last night. I was like, everyone's making her feel crazy.
SPEAKER_02Love and Love and Aya, but if I ever need a pep talk, do not send her my way. Do not give her my number. No. Because what do you mean he's being genuine and still has good intentions?
SPEAKER_01Because they are they are in his spell as well.
SPEAKER_02Which is it's so frustrating. Yeah. But I think I I don't know if I texted you this a couple weeks ago when I was in my spiral about how bad Love Island USA is this year. But I it's really it's gotten way better.
SPEAKER_01It's turned around for me, but it it's it was in the trash code.
SPEAKER_02It did turn around slightly, but this past episode, I just feel like everyone's gonna end up in their original couples. And so all of that good progress that Casa infused into this season, I think is just gonna go by the way sideways.
SPEAKER_01I don't I don't mind that if they show more interesting details about the couples, like dates and things like that. I like like the in-depth couple stuff.
SPEAKER_02I I think the problem is this cast is not gonna give us that. True. Because, and I saw this somewhere on the internet, people pointed out that the majority of these people were COVID high schoolers. And I just truly think that there will be a lot of studies about this late in decades about this generation. They can't make sentences. No, it's they it's actually scary to watch. They kind of like missed a connecting point of how to how to form and form connections. And so I don't I don't ever I don't think this is the cast that's going to give us the things that we love Love Island about. I think that's true. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That makes me sad for them.
SPEAKER_02They're in arrested development as well. But it's I really wish you had been watching UK this whole time because there's a lot of young people on UK this season, too. There's more I don't want to say older because when I say older, they're like 27. 27. Yeah, 28. But I'd like to see more of that on these shows. But they more of the late 20s. They don't have that same problem on the UK. They're actually having really thoughtful conversations, they're navigating conflict in a much more mature way. And so the juxtaposition is very interesting. I also just hate the slang and vernacular that is in Gen Z and I think probably some of the people on Love Island US or Gen Alpha now, too, like saying dead ass and I don't even know what. I just hate it. Yeah. I I don't know.
SPEAKER_01There's a lot of filler words. Yeah. There's a lot of filler words, and I say a lot of and I say a lot of filler words. We have an epidemic in this country of saying, but these kids are saying it, and I found I sound like a grandma right now because I'm like, there's cage, but it's and I and it's not I was saying before, saying like when you comment on how a a group of people speaks, it's very it's fraught with microaggression tendencies and scary things. This is not that. This is across every demographic, every income group, everything, every single person cannot speak words. And I don't expect them to be perfect or have perfect English or anything like that. But it's it's the West Wilsiv wilsification. West wilsification. Where it's like you're actually not even making sentences because you're like so used to communicating on a phone or whatever.
SPEAKER_02But it's also open the schools because how they are pronouncing some actual words is diabolical.
SPEAKER_01What was the one that where he said he was getting Emerge and immerse mixed up or something like that? And then Jen said compromise instead of compromise. That reminds me of this is a deep cut, but did you see like many, many seasons go of The Bachelor when someone said lingerie instead of lingerie?
SPEAKER_02That was really No, but I'm gonna need to clip very fine immediately after this.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Love Love Island, always have, always will, one of the best shows ever. I'm just happy that finally I've been saying this for years. Love Island's the best reality show. I'm so happy that it's people are understanding. And it makes me happy, and I love it. Yeah, and I think it's a great show. As as my friend Kaylee says, who also loves Love Island, nothing bad happens to you personally when you're watching Love Island.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01When you're watching Love Island, you are on Love Island. You are not it does not matter. You're in the villa.
SPEAKER_02In the villa. Yep. And if you're not in the villa, you're dumped, and that's sad. Yep. Out on the street. Wow. Okay, we're gonna do a hard pivot. We've been talking light, talking fun. But you brought something to my attention last week. I'm skirt about the church that won Danny Buko. Oh there. Literal God. Would love for you to lead us down that path. Down the discussion. Again, like a trigger warning, definite change of topic.
SPEAKER_01And sexual assault. Yeah. Religion. Okay, so I don't know too much, but I did hear, what was it, on listening to the Bish Therapist podcast? Uh, they were talking about how it was recently brought to the public's attention. Allegedly, allegedly, Danny Buko's dad, I can't, I it was unclear to me in the articles what I was reading, if either he was covering up sexual assault or he was like the perpetrator of the sexual assault. Either one's not okay, either one is gross. That they're in the church. So Danny Buko of the Valley. Of the Valley, which is very, very problematic. Bravo show. Yeah. Very, very problematic. And it's not because he's religious, it's because of how he interprets his religion and how he treats others because of that and uses it as an excuse. So his dad's a pastor at this very big church, wherever they're from, I don't remember where they're from. But they he basically wrote a letter to the public and was like, we're really sorry this happened to this person, but like it didn't happen at this church and whatever. And there's speculation that it was the dad who was the perpetrator. And then it also says in other articles, a volunteer. I'm not sure what that means. What I do know is that he was involved in actively in cover-up of like people who were having issues with sexual assault in their church, which is very not okay. No. And sad, obviously. And is not surprising because of the generational trauma factor. And it really put things to light for me about Danny's behavior. Whether we don't know what His what's happened to him or not. Regardless, it is telling for like how Danny treats other women and how Danny treats his religion as an excuse. That's what I will say. Is is it made sense to me as soon as I found out that information, I was like, oh, he's from a family of liars and covering up and using religion to weaponize others and whatnot. Yeah. Which is really sad because I think that for a lot of people, I I didn't grow up religious, but I think for a lot of people, religion is a is such a lifeline for them. Yeah. Whatever, and it can be such a beautiful thing. But when it's used to weaponize and to put others down and to make excuse for misogynistic behavior and abusive behavior, that's where I get pissed off.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And if you don't watch The Valley or have been following along with the progress of the show, we're on season three, right? Yeah. Season three. I think season one, no one suspected anything from Danny. He just was kind of this quirky goofy guy that maybe was annoying, but no one clocked as really problematic. But I think Like no one.
SPEAKER_01I didn't even I feel like I have a good eye for that. You do. I did not until last season. I was he's bad news. But yeah, you're side-eyeing him while I was 10 toes down on loving him.
SPEAKER_02What self-growth. We love that. We we do love a pause and reflection. Yeah. But I think it's a something that comes up a lot of times in in reality shows, but specifically bravo with problematic men of they can only keep that mask on for so long. It only works for so long. And so season one, I'd I didn't see any red flags. If I went back and watched nothing, I'm sure we would have misunderstanding. I would be like, okay, I feel the same. Why was I blind to this? But then last season, it was I think tides definitely started to turn. There were people that were It was a little bit like, hmm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02What's going on here? But we're not fully.
SPEAKER_01I wasn't even fully like, he's terrible. I was just like something about him's off. Yep.
SPEAKER_02And then this season is full on. Wow. He's terrible. It did take me a minute to get there, as you know, with uh the text exchange, but yeah, the way he treats his wife, Nia, the way he terrible treats other women, terrible. He just wants to reproduce and and pop out kids and repopulate the world. And drink, even though he has problematic behavior.
SPEAKER_01And then lie about it. Yeah. There were things. That was my thing. That's when I turned on him when he had uh sexually assaulted Jasmine and her wife, or fiance, I don't remember, and then didn't stop drinking as a result. It was like you do these things while you're drinking, it's gross, whatever. And these things, people can have indiscretions and grow and move on and have remorse and be better. But that's not what happened. He went uh the opposite way, where now he's drinking more and whatever. And that to me is where I'm like, no.
SPEAKER_02If he no, and he downplays everything and gets defensive, gets defensive, like can't have a productive conversation, can't take constructive criticism.
SPEAKER_01He blames everything. His projection is unlike anything I've seen on these shows. Yeah. So I've noticed in Nia and Danny's arguments that Danny says whatever he feels will be he will be accused of to Nia that she's doing it. Nia, you're being loud. You didn't defend me. You, you blah, blah, blah. You're drunk too. Like all of these things. It's every, it's every time it's something that he knows he's gonna get, he knows he's doing, and he says it to her, and then she has this fawn response that's very sad and creepy to watch, where she like just will buckle and defend him and be like, yeah, you're right. I'm sorry, I did that.
SPEAKER_02I mean, it's definitely indicative as someone that did grow up religious and then a very conservative form of Lutheranism. Like, that's what you're taught. Yeah. As women, you have to literally, they say, submit to your husband. And I can imagine I feel like the church that they are a part of is definitely evangelical. Yeah. That's probably a huge theme that husbands are supposed to be the head of the household and not just spiritually guide, but guide in every single way. And so if he says something, if Nia, it seems like she's a very faithful person, not necessarily to Danny. Yes, to Danny, but also just like religion wise. Yeah. She's going to hold to that. Yeah. That makes me sad. And she has four kids with this more and an infant. And that's just trying to survive. It has to be later as well, because like what does she have a this might be an ignorant question, but does she work? I'm going to sound like Vicky Gumbelson now.
SPEAKER_01Like she does like influencing and stuff. Oh, okay. And I don't follow her in social media. And I think she actually does quite a lot, but we don't find out about that because Danny goes to work. Danny gets these jobs. Danny does this. I actually think in their dynamic that he doesn't want to seem her to seem successful. And that's why he puts her down for her pageants when they were like when she was like dressing him up in the drag. That's why he put her down. Oh, you're supposed to know all this, whatever. She's she has a business doing consulting for pageants for other girls. And that's like a whole business that she has. She has her social media problems. I bet she makes more money than him, but we don't know that. And that's sad because he doesn't lift her up. He doesn't in that group, you know, patriarchal kind of vibe.
SPEAKER_02Patriarchical mindset doubled down, especially because you have that religion. Religion.
SPEAKER_01Which is unfortunate because it's not dogging on religion, it's dogging on like how people can use it. Their interpretation and interpret it into a way that makes excuses for your shitty behavior. It's terrible. And I do understand why I've heard people say, oh, she should leave him and stuff. No. What's she is surviving every single day for her is wake up. That's why and the creepiest thing that newborn is attached. Attached. I mean, if you I cannot imagine having a baby that didn't take a bottle, that sounds freaking terrible. But she and she said this a few episodes, she said that a few times, I just want to have a good day. I just and when people say that, that gives me abuse signals because when alleged, when you wake up and you say, I just want to have a good day, I just want to, and that's what Melanie said in this last episode of Love Island. She said, I just want to have a good night. That means that you are deciding to fawn, you're deciding to just not whatever, not stand up for yourself. That makes me very nervous for Nia. And I think that the she is surviving. She doesn't have the bandwidth to leave this man right now. So the best she can do, and I totally understand this, is like make the moment better until the kids are old enough or she has enough money on her own or she gets the strength from whatever. Yeah. But the expectation that we have set up for especially for women and and people who are caregivers to just leave with four kids, it's not realistic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's definitely, I don't think Danny is as bad as Jax, Taylor.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I mean, you can't.
SPEAKER_02Well, if he keeps drinking, that's it. I think he could be there in a different way. Totally. A different font. Yep. I think that in a lot of ways being on reality TV and the show protected Britney from a lot of behavior that Jax could have directed toward her. And I think that's currently what's happening right now with Danny and Nia. The cameras, the fact that all eyes are on them, they're they're public figures, is probably helping things from getting worse. Yeah. Because it seems like that could be a really slippery slope for them.
SPEAKER_01I think the only way that somebody like Danny becomes a better husband, person, father is first step would be not to drink. Yeah. And we can't say whether he has a drinking problem or not. Obviously, he does problematic things when he's drinking. It's not for us to say what that relationship is, but if you do problematic things when you're drinking and you aren't stopping drinking, this problem will not go away. Yeah. It's just a fact. So that's gonna be step one, but we haven't seen it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's it's getting worse. What's that classic line of a sober man's thoughts is a drunk man's words? Uh the alcohol is only amplifying something. Yeah, but that's already there. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah.

We're getting to the end of our time here, but I think we want to end on maybe a bit of a positive note. Oh. And this is going back to my niche, my niche, niche, niche TikTok algorithm. You love a niche. Yeah. I love a shower niche. I love everything. It's an interesting amalgamation of things, but I love it. Wouldn't have wanted anything. If you broke that brick by brick, okay? 100%. So you did not know about this before I told you, but if any of you out there have heard or seen videos from the TikTok account, you row Kelsey. It's this rower, female rower. I did hear about this. Kelsey Fedler, who's currently on the solo row from California to Hawaii. Which, let's pause and think about that, is insane.
SPEAKER_01All I think of, that's a lot of sunscreen. So much sunset. That's where my brain goes. Because I did notice she's a white lady. She is a white lady. And that means for us, that's a lot of sunscreen. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02She's early 30s, I think like maybe 32-ish. I don't know. But so she is her normal day-to-day job is a raft guide in the Grand Canyon along the Colorado River. So this is definitely not her first. Yeah, she's on the water. She's not a noob. Um she's done some ocean rows before, but she wanted to be not the first person or first female, but she wanted to break the female record for how fast you could row from California to Hawaii unassisted. So that means she's not getting any food or water. She packed everything that she was going to need for this entire row. She's completely completely alone. Last time I checked, I checked a couple hours ago when I got here. She was about 40 nautical miles from her landing spot in Oahu. And her original goal was to beat the women's record. But yesterday she was 500 nautical miles ahead of the men's record. Crazy. So she will beat it. Maybe today do we think I don't know how the goal is each day. I think by 11 p.m. Pacific is she's supposed to be in Hawaii. I love stuff like that. Just like showing the what the human body can do, putting your mind to something, the mind to something. And then we love to see women on top. Always.
SPEAKER_01And then my second question, my my second thought is how where do you land on your relationship to what that would feel like for you to do that same thing?
SPEAKER_02There's no way. No way. No way. When I was in college, trapped. We did a long weekend where we rafted down the Orange River in Namibia and then camped along the shores. Um I I I couldn't. Just thinking just thinking back exploded down the river. You just went down and you said bye. That was an insane time because the water that we had was the river and we would just drink the water straight.
SPEAKER_01No filter.
SPEAKER_02There was one person in my study abroad group that had a filter or lightstick that she put in her water bottle. So crazy. But the fact that all of us gun wood. This is fake wood. This is fake wood. This maybe is real wood. There's probably no real wood in here, but we'll get it. The fact that all of us are still with everyone on this planet after that experience of no not filtering that water is crazy.
SPEAKER_01That's horrifying. And that's when you knew it wasn't for you.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't for me. I really tried to be a nature girl. Yeah, you gave it a whirl. I'm a glamping girl if I must do it. You dipped a toe. I'll dip a toe. I'm very white, as we can see. I would need gallons of sunscreen. So many gallons. And that still wouldn't be enough. It wouldn't be enough. Could do you think you could ever do it?
SPEAKER_01I think I could do something extreme with my body solo in the wilderness. Yes. Okay. I do think I could do that. Rowing, no, because a few reasons. I get motion sick. Also. Oh, same. Oh, why that wasn't the first thing that popped into the colour. There's that. The silence I could do, the isolation I could do. Love that. The nature of it all I could do, be it where I would struggle and where it's not appealing, being on the little thing, and that's all I'm on. And that's where that would scare me. But I think I could do there's a show called, oh my gosh, what is it called? Extracted. Oh. Have you seen that one? No. It's uh it's like a survival show. Okay. It takes place in the Northwest, and basically people go into the woods and survive as long as they can. And their family members are back at the headquarters and negotiate to get them supplies. But John said the whole time we're watching that, he's like, John's her husband, yes. And our tech support. Yeah, obviously tech support. And he's every time we watch it, he's like, You should do this show. You would be so good at this show. You should do this show. I don't do it. I don't, this is not like a hobby for me. I just know I could do it. I don't know why. Don't don't ask me why. It's just a fact.
SPEAKER_02So this whole podcast started because you had an idea and a belief that we could do something. 100%. So I'm very good at that. Once I get it just done. So I think our next goal and mission is to get you on this show. He wants me on that show. Or Survivor. That's the other thing. And then when it airs, we could do weekly recap episodes. That would be fantastic.
SPEAKER_01I th I we just we just unlocked something. I think Survivor would be really fun. Okay. That's for for me personally. But I I would do both. Yeah. Let's let's get it popping. I don't know why. I w I'm like, yeah, I'll do it. The only thing is leaving the baby.
