Welcome to the Warriors Haven Podcast, the place where discipline meets purpose and everyday people become unstoppable. I'm your host, Jaisha Sutherland, a retired Army drill sergeant, single mom, and the founder of the Warriors Haven. Around here, we talk fitness, mindset, and the mission of building a stronger you, mentally, physically, and financially. Because this isn't just about the gym. It's about life, leadership, and living on your terms. So gear up, lock in, and let's step into the haven where warriors are made. I ran a poll a couple days ago, and so many of you reached back out and told me that you guys are not really struggling with energy, you're more so struggling with discipline, which I have to say really hit my happy button because what I'm about to say is probably gonna make some of you a little uncomfortable. And that is that you're not burnt out, you're not exhausted because life is too hard, you're exhausted because your life lacks discipline. And I know that's not what people want to hear, but it's what will change your life. So I thought about it after getting the results from the poll, and I decided I think I'm gonna make this series and call it built by discipline. I think it sounds fitting, and I want to share with you what I really truly believe, and that is motivation fades, life gets hard, but discipline, discipline builds warriors. Let me share a quick little story with y'all. I remember when I retired from the army, for years my life had structure. Wake up time, training, expectations, accountability. Everything was set. And I thought mentally I had prepared for the day where I received my DD 214 and retired. And then suddenly it was all gone. No structure, no system, no one telling me what to do. And at first I thought that was the life. And then what I didn't realize was how much that structure was actually holding me together. I didn't realize that until it wasn't there anymore. I'm a single mom. I'm a provider, trying to figure out life outside of everything that I knew. And I remember waking up some days feeling heavy, not just tired, but low. No direction, no clarity, no routine, and it actually started turning into something deeper: depression. Because when you go from a life of structure to a life of chaos, your mind doesn't just adjust overnight. It struggles, and I had to face a hard truth. It wasn't just my circumstances, it was my lack of structure that I was making everything feel heavier. And what I went through was something that millions of people are experiencing right now. Friends, according to the American Psychological Association, a large percentage of adults report feeling overwhelmed by stress and unsure how to manage it daily. And here's the simple truth behind that. When people lose structure, their stress increases, their clarity drops, and their energy disappears because your brain needs stability, it needs routine, it needs direction. Without it, everything feels harder than it actually is. So let me talk to you guys about how chaos drains your brain. And let me try to break this down as simply as I can. Your brain is like a battery, and every decision drains it. What should I eat? What should I work out? What should I focus on? Where do I even start? Now imagine doing that all day with no structure. That's exhausting. And the American Psychological Association talks about this really in a simple way. When people are constantly making decisions without routine, it increases stress and mental fatigue. That means you're not just tired, your brain is overloaded. That's why you feel drained before your day even starts. Confusion drains more energy than hard work. A chaotic life creates a tired mind. You're not overworked, you're overwhelmed. Now, here's the shift that changed everything for me when I realized that discipline actually calms my mind. And if you instill what I'm trying to teach here in this episode and in this series, you'll see that it will calm yours too. So here's the shift that changed everything for me. When I started rebuilding structure in my life, everything got lighter, not easier, clearer. Because discipline removes the constant thinking. You already decided what time you wake up, what you're doing first, how you're taking care of yourself. And according to the American Psychological Association, having routines and consistent habits actually help reduce stress and improve mental well-being. Simple version, structure calms your brain, and a calm brain has more energy. I had to rebuild that military structure on my own. No one was giving it to me anymore. I had to decide this is when I wake up. This is when I move my body. This is how I show up. And slowly my energy started coming back. Structure doesn't trap you, it frees you. Discipline reduces stress. Clarity creates energy. So motivation, and let's talk about it here for a second, friends, is keeping you stuck. And I feel like I want to talk about this as one of the biggest lies. The one, I just need to feel motivated. No, no, you don't. Because motivation is emotional. And again, the American Psychological Association explains that stress and emotions directly affect how people take action. Meaning, when your emotions are off, your actions are inconsistent. That's why you keep starting over. Because you're waiting to feel ready. Discipline doesn't wait, it executes. Motivation is a feeling. Discipline is a decision. If you wait to feel ready, you'll stay stuck. Your feelings are not a reliable plan. So if you've been feeling tired, low, stuck, I want you to hear me clearly. You're not broken, you're not weak, you're not incapable. You just don't have a system that's supporting your life right now. And once you fix that, everything starts to change. So in the next episode, I'm going to break down the energy system nobody ever taught us. So you can actually understand what's building your energy and what's destroying it every single day. And once you see it, you won't be able to go back. So, friends, I really think honing in on this series where we are built by discipline hopefully will unlock a whole new season in so many of y'all's lives. So stick with me. I cannot wait to connect with you guys on the next episode where again we talk about the energy system that nobody ever taught us. So until next time, stay strong, stay focused, stay ready.
