Hey everyone, it's Sam. Welcome to the Midweek Pit Stop. How's the AdSpotting Bingo going? Have you started noticing how many hidden commercials are packed into your feed every day? Once your eyes are open to it, it changes everything. On Monday, Tilly shared how scrolling through those perfect lifestyle videos made her feel depressed and unhappy with her dog walking job. And we read 1 John 2.16, which warns us about the cravings of the world. But wait a minute, didn't we just read in Psalm 24:1 that the earth belongs to God? If God owns everything, why is the world so dangerous? This is where understanding the original languages of the Bible makes a huge difference. In the Old Testament, the word for earth is written in ancient Hebrew as Eritz, E-R-E-T-Z, which literally means the physical ground, the soil, and the actual planet God created. God made the physical earth, and it is beautiful. But in the New Testament, when the Bible warns us about the world, it uses an ancient Greek word, cosmos, K-O-S-M-O-S. In this verse, cosmos doesn't mean the physical planet, it means the system. It means the culture, the values, and the broken human standards that try to operate completely apart from God. The physical earth and your room belong to God. But the algorithm, the comparison trap, and the pressure to have an aesthetic life, that is the cosmos system trying to dictate your worth. And how does that system get inside us? Through our eyes. In Matthew 6, verse 22, Jesus says something life-changing. He says, Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. Your eyes are the gateway to your heart. When we passively stare at the cosmos system on our screens, letting our eyes absorb those unrealistic standard halls, our eye gate becomes unhealthy. That is exactly how darkness, anxiety, and depression sneak into our hearts. We are filling our minds with the wrong wiring. That's why we need to practice biblical meditation this week. Remember, meditation isn't about emptying your mind, it's about filling it. Take 1 John 2.16 or Matthew 6.22. Look at the words, whisper them to yourself, and chew on them today. Let God's truth rewire your eye gate so that you can see your real world blessings clearly. Let's pray. God, thank you for the beautiful earth you created and the blessings you have given us. Forgive us for the times we let our eyes wander into the broken systems of this world. Help us to guard our eye gate this week. When we look at our screens, give us the wisdom to spot the illusions so that anxiety and depression have no way into our hearts. Fill us with your light instead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
