If you're in construction or logistics, look into sustainable energy training. But here is the pro tip for the day, micro credentialing. You don't always need a four-year degree to pivot. Platforms like Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, and industry specific boot camps are allowing people to stack skills. Are you seeing a lot of project management roles in your area? Get that PMP or TAPM. Being a media person and former law enforcement specialist, this intrigues me for sure. Now you might be asking, Mikey, what does an employee relations investigator actually do? Think of them as the workplace's neutral arbiter. When there are complex issues ranging from harassment and discrimination claims to violations of company policy or ethics, the ER investigator is the one who steps in to find the facts. What is their role in the workplace? First, impartiality, they aren't there to take sides. Their job is to conduct interviews, review emails and data, and piece together an objective truth. Second, risk mitigation, they help the companies stay compliant with labor laws and internal policies, preventing small issues from turning into massive lawsuits. Third, culture preservation by addressing grievances fairly and thoroughly, they ensure that employees feel heard and that bad actors are held accountable. This builds trust across the whole organization. Who is right for this job if you have a background in HR, law, or even criminal justice, and you possess Sherlock Holmes levels of curiosity combined with a Switzerland level of neutrality, this might be your calling.
