Hey, hey, hey guys. Dark Desert Highway here. And today we are gonna play a little game I like to call Bible Let's So I pick up the Bible, I flip it open real fast, and whatever chapter I land on, that's the chapter I read. So this is Bible Roulette Part 1. I already did it with my Bible and it landed on John chapter 1. Pretty interesting. I uh I prayed before I did this, and I asked the Lord, um, I told him, Lord, I'm about to play uh Bible roulette. Um, I have not studied, but please let the Holy Spirit be here with me while I read whatever chapter flips open, and it is going to be John chapter one. So we're gonna start. Uh I'll put my Bible that I flipped open with right back here, and we're gonna use the Bible on the screen. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, and He was with God in the beginning. All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that had been created. In Him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. So the true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was created through him, and yet the world did not recognize him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. That's the Israel, the nation of Israel. But to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not of natural descent, or the will of the flesh, or the will of man, but of God. The word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified concerning him and exclaimed, This was the one of whom I said, the one coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me. Indeed we have all received grace upon grace from his fullness, for the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one had ever seen God, the one and only Son, who is himself God and is at the Father's side. He has revealed him. Wow. So nineteen This was John's testimony, when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him, Who are you? He didn't deny it, but confessed I am not the Messiah. What then? They asked him, Are you Elijah? I am not, he said. Are you the prophet? No, he answered. Who are you then? They asked. We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself? And he said, I am a voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, just as Isaiah the prophet said. Now they had been sent from the Pharisees, so they asked him, Why then do you baptize if you aren't the Messiah, Elijah, or the prophet? I baptize with water, John answered them. Someone stands among you, but you don't know him. He is the one coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie. All this happened in Bethany, across the Jordan, where John was baptizing. The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. This is the one I told you about. After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me. I didn't know him, but I came baptizing with water, so that he might be revealed to Israel. And John testified, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him. I didn't know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me, The one you see the spirit descending and resting on, he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God. Thirty-four verses. Let's stop right there. Let's stop right there. Thirty-four verses. There's a lot to go over in this, and I'd like to remind you that this is just a YouTube channel. I am not a pastor. I have studied the Bible for since I was 19. I'm 37 now. And I had a experience in January of 2020 where the Lord became real to me. He stepped into my life in ways that I did not know were possible. But because of this, I now have more faith than I have ever had in my life. It has caused me to throw away my idols and change my behavior so that I am no longer offensive to him because he sees all things, he knows the thoughts of men, he knows what's in their heart, the secret things that you put away and no one knows but you. So because of this revelation that I have had, um I have changed the way I live, and I have humbled myself before him by agreeing that what he says in his word is true, and I look at my life and I find the things that are out of the way of the words of the Lord, that don't line up with the words of the Lord, that say I should be doing something, but I do something else. I've taken everything else in my life that has nothing to do with God, and I have thrown it away, and I have humbled myself before the Lord by agreeing with him that he is right, that he has authority over my life, he has more power than I have, and I will submit myself to him. I submit my behavior, I bow before him, I relent, I give up, I surrender. So let's look at this real quick. Um John 1 1 in the beginning was the word, and the word was with God. We can see this also in Proverbs. And the Word was God, He was with God in the beginning, all things were created through Him, and apart from Him, not one thing was created that has been created. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God, He was with God in the beginning. A long time ago, I had been thinking about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and their relationship together, and I came to the conclusion that the Word was with God and the Word was God, so God's word was what proceeded from his mouth. He's so powerful that his word goes forth. Now, if I speak, my words are no less than who I am, because I have said them. They are an intricate part of me, they are how I express myself. So my words are just as I am, when I speak them, they are no less than who I am, they are an expression of who I am in the verbal form. So the relationship between the word and God is God speaks his word, his word goes forth, his word is no less than who God is because it is from the mouth of God. He is so powerful that his word takes life. Life and is embodied. And I believe that from the first moment, the first word that God spoke, Jesus was because Jesus is the word of the Lord, he is no less than God, he is God, because like the words of your mouth are no less than who you are in an expressive verbal form. Okay, Jesus is, was, is, and always will be, he is with God in the beginning. In verse 2, he was with God in the beginning, right? God's word, the expression of his mouth. All things were created through him, and it's interesting to know that when God spoke, let's let's pull up um pull up Genesis real quick. Genesis chapter one, verse one in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, His word went forth. Let there be light. The very first thing he said was let there be light, and there was light. Now let's go back to um let's go back to John real quick and make this connection right here. In him was life, verse four, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. So the first recorded word of God was let there be light. Are you making the connection? And that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. So all things were created through him. The very first word, recorded word that the Lord spoke was light. And it was, and apart from him not one thing was created that had been created. In him was life. So the word of the Lord is life and light. That was the first recorded spoken word of the Lord, and I believe that the first word of the Lord was the manifest Jesus Christ. He has always been with him. Like my word has always been with me, it's a part of me, even before I have spoken it. It is how I express myself, but God is so powerful that when he speaks, things are created. Let's go back to uh Genesis 1, because you also see the Spirit of the Lord here in verse 2. The Spirit is God of God was hovering over the surface. This this word hovering in the original Greek means to vibrate or to resonate. So he was making sound, a resonation, a vibration. And a very interesting thing, if you go on YouTube, you can see how sound creates form and structure. They have this table that they hook up a sound wave through, and they spread sand, just throw sand onto this table, and they run a frequency, a resonation, a vibration through this table, and the sand takes shape and forms, it looks like snowflakes, it forms structure, and each resonating sound has a different structure. So the spirit of God was hovering, he was vibrating, he was um making music, sound, he was using sound to create structure, and I believe that it was the greatest orchestra that had ever been played because that is how the world was created when it was form and without void. Music was playing, music was playing, sound was going forth, the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Right? And then God said, Let there be light. Now we just covered that, and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness he called night, and there was evening and morning one day. So when the Lord speaks, Jesus goes forth and he is God because he's the very spoken word of God. The spirit of God is like your spirit, it is the essence of who you are, it is how you have moved through the world, it is the flavor of your very soul. I just can't explain it any better than that. It is who you are, it is the expressive form. Your spirit is the expressive form of who you are. You ever see somebody walk by and you're like, man, just the the what that person gives off, right? And you look at what they've done in their life and you see their personality, the the ways of of who they are and what they do, and how they go about things, and you see the spirit of that person. So the spirit of God is no less than God because it is the very spirit of God. The word of God is no less than God because it is the very spoken word of God. He's so powerful that all three of these things work together in unison, and that is the relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. So let's go back to John chapter one. Verse thet's start back from the beginning. In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was with God in the beginning, and all things were created through him, and apart from him not one thing was created that has been created. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. That light shines in the darkness, and yet the darkness did not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify about the light, so that all might believe through him. He was not the light, John was not the light, but he came to testify, so John was testifying about the light. The true light that gives light to everyone was coming to the world, it was on its way. In verse 10, he was in the world, and the world was created through him. Remember, God spoke. He spoke, he said, Let there be light, and let there be a separation between light and darkness. And um, if we so the world was created through him, let's look at the rest of the creation in chapter 21. Because the word was the light, and we could see that in verse 3 of Genesis. Then God said, Let there be the light. He was the first spoken word ever recorded of the record that we have of Jesus. Let there be light. And you see, the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, Let there be light. All three of them are right there: the Father, the Son, who is the light, and the Holy Spirit. God saw that the light was good, and God separated the light from the darkness. He called the light day, and the darkness he called night. There was evening and there was morning one day. Then God said, right, so using the word of his mouth, he said, Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water. So God made the expanse. So he made what he made by his word, and his word is the light, and he had come into the world as a man, and he is. The Lord Jesus Christ. Then God said with His Word, so nothing was created without Him. Remember? And all things that were created were created by Him, the Word. Then God said, Let there be an expanse between the waters, separating water from water. So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from water and above the expanse. And so it was so. God called this expanse sky. Evening came, then morning a second day. Then God said, Let the water. He said, Let the water under the sky be gathered in one place and let the dry land appear. And it was so. God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the water he called seas. So this is all being done by his word. And God saw that it was good. Then God said, Let the earth produce vegetation, seed-bearing plants and fruit trees of the earth bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And it was so. The earth produced vegetation, seed-bearing plants according to their kinds, and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds, and God said it was good. So you can see in multiple um in all of creation, in all of the recorded creation, he's using his word to speak it into existence, but the word who was with God was God, because his word is no less than God, it is the very spoken expression of God. Ah, we're getting into some stuff here. He was in the world. Verse 10, uh, John 1, and the world was created through him, through the word, and yet the world did not recognize him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. He's talking about the Jews, he's talking about Israel. Um he came to proclaim heavens, uh the truth that he was who he said he was, and he was making a way for his people to be reconciled to him from their sins through his death and resurrection, but they didn't want to hear that. They had expected the king to free them from the Roman occupation, and they thought that the Messiah would be one who would give them freedom from uh their current situation and establish a kingdom uh right then and there, but that's not that wasn't God's plan. And because they weren't what he expected him to be, they rejected him. Have you ever had that? God's not really who you expect him to be when he comes into your life, and you start learning what God is like because of the way that he is, and you know, we get ideas about things and we see it a certain way, but then the reality of it hits, and you realize this is not really what I thought it was. I have to um I have to re-evaluate things based on the evidence that I have uh now because the way that it's happened, um I must uh adjust to the reality of the way things are. And Jesus wasn't who they expected him to be, he didn't uh act the way that they they wanted him to act because he called them out on all their BS, right? And they said, Look, he the the Lord Jesus said, Look, man, you're hiding the keys of the kingdom from people, you are hiding the knowledge of the Lord from people, and what you have done is basically shut the doors of heaven uh on on the people who I have called to myself, and you're supposed to be the representatives, and you're not representing, and then he wasn't who they thought he was gonna be, they rejected him. Uh, so that's who he's talking about right here when he came to his own in verse 11. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him, but to all who did receive him, he gave them the right to be the children of God. See the Jews, I don't know if you know this, but the Jews murdered Jesus, they didn't believe that he was the Messiah. So, what about the Jews today? Well, they're still waiting for the Messiah, he hasn't come according to them, because the one that came uh and said, Hey, I'm here, they rejected, they murdered him, so their Messiah has never come. They're still waiting for him, and when you see the Jewish people say, There he is, watch out, because that will be the Antichrist. That's a study for another time. But twelve, to all those who did receive him, he gave them the right to be the children of God, to those who believe in his name, who were born not of natural descent or the will of the flesh, or the will of man, but God. So he is the way. And he had come and he was walking on the earth. Verse fourteen The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified concerning him and exclaimed, This was the one whom I said, the one coming after me ranks ahead of me because he existed before me. So here's more evidence to what I had said a couple Bible studies ago that Jesus existed before he came in the form of man, he even had interactions with um a bunch of people, and that was Jesus, right? Just before he came into in the flesh, he had always existed in Genesis 1. You see, he existed from the beginning, all things were made through him, so he had life, he was alive, and then he came into the child, known by name as Jesus Christ, and then he walked with men, but he had had a prior existence all the way up to that point, he continued to exist through that time, he died, he rose again, and he exists now. He will always exist. Now he has been crowned king, all authority has been given to him, dominion belongs to him, and I don't know if I want to say that, but all things belong to him. He is the current king, he will always be king. That is his position. All things have been awarded him, and he rules. So the word of the word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory. The glory is the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. John testified concerning him and explained, exclaimed, This was the one of whom I said, the one coming after me ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me. Indeed, we have all received grace, upon grace, from his fullness. For the law was given through Moses, grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one had ever seen God, the one and only Son, who is himself God, and is at the Father's side, he has revealed him. So the mystery of the prophets, the great mystery that a Savior was coming, a Messiah had been promised, right? The mystery was now revealed. He had been revealed in the end of verse 18. No one had ever seen God, the one and only Son, who is Himself God, and is at the Father's side. He has revealed him. So this was the revealing of the mystery that had been spoken and rumored throughout the ages that one would come to redeem mankind from the fall that occurred when Adam and Eve had broken their union with God and caused sin to dwell within the human genome, the DNA. We had become corrupted all the way down to at a genetic level. We had corruption living inside of us, and it was causing all of us to die and be separate from the Lord. One other really cool thing is people had faith in the Lord because they believed the promise of God. So all of the old prophets, right, had faith in Jesus, like I have faith in Jesus, that he is alive today, right? That he came as a man and that he existed previously. Um they had faith that the Lord was on his way, a uh a savior had been promised, and they had faith in that promise. So it was possible to have faith in Jesus before he was ever revealed as Jesus as a man walking around the earth. And you can see this in John's testimony. John's testimony was, hey, he's coming. He's coming, and I'm talking about him because he's on his way, and then he saw him and he said, Here he is. This is the one I was talking about. So John had faith in Jesus before he ever saw Jesus. He recognized him, though. He recognized him and said, This is the one that I was talking about. This was John's testimony to this was John's testimony, verse 19, when the Jews from Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to him and said, Who are you? And he didn't deny it, but he confessed, I am not the Messiah. What then? They asked him. Are you Elijah? I am not, he said. Are you the prophet? No, he answered. Who are you then? They asked. We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What can you tell us about yourself? Because he was doing something crazy. Nobody was baptizing people. There was one baptism of the Jews called the proselyte baptism, which was something that a non-Jew could become a Jew, quotation marks, if he accomplished certain tasks, and then he would be baptized into a he would be baptized and become a Jew. A non-Jew who wanted to be be baptized and considered a Jew. No matter what his original ethnicity and historical past had been, whatever people group he came from, they would baptize him and dub them you are now Jewish. But you had to do a whole bunch of things. You had to jump through a whole bunch of hoops, and then you would be baptized. Nobody had ever baptized people other than this way. It was called the proselyte baptism. And uh he said, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, just as Isaiah the prophet had said. 24. Now they had been sent from the Pharisees, so they asked him, Why then do you baptize if you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the prophet? He says, I baptize with water. So this was a new thing, and and it got all of the religious leaders' attention because nobody in the world was doing what John was doing. He was baptizing without the church's authority. He was just baptizing people, he was dunking them under the water, and they're going, What are you doing? Who are you? What are you doing out here, man? And he goes, I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord. And what are you talking about? Because you're doing stuff out here and you're talking about things about the word. Uh you're saying stuff, and we, you know, and he said, I am the voice of, you know, uh he's in 22, who are you then? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. You're you you're drawing attention to yourself. What can you tell us about yourself? I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, make straight the way of the Lord, just as Isaiah said, the prophet said. Now, when they had been sent from the Pharisees, so they asked him, Oh, now now they had been sent from the Pharisees. So they asked him, Why then do you baptize if you aren't the Messiah or Elijah or the prophet? I baptize with water, John answered them. Someone stands among you, but you don't know him. He is the one coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not unworthy to tie, to untie. All this happened in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was doing this crazy thing, baptizing people, and the church leaders were like, What? What is he doing out there? The next day, verse 29, John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. This is the one I was telling you about. After me comes a man who ranks ahead of me, because he existed before me. I didn't know him, but I came baptizing with water, so that he might be revealed to Israel. And John testified, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and he rested on him. I didn't know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me that the one you see the spirit descending and resting on, he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. Baptism of the Holy Spirit was to become a new thing. The Spirit wasn't the Spirit before the point when he became a part of us, like it is now today, where he is given to us and he lives inside of us, the spirit used to rest on people and then give them words of wisdom, a certain task, you know, his great strength. Um, you know, the spirit would come and rest. Uh, the spirit would be with you, but he he wasn't living inside of us yet. That was a new thing that was going to happen, but hasn't yet happened. So he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit. 34. I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God. The next day John was standing with two of his disciples when he saw Jesus passing by and he said, Look, the Lamb of God. Oh, I went a little bit too far. That's where we stopped, huh? 34. Well, hey guys, uh, this was an amazing Bible study. Uh, this is what's called, I call the game of Bible relay.
