Welcome to Morning Manna, where we begin each day by feeding on the eternal word of God. Thank you for joining me as we continue our verse by verse journey through the Gospel of John. Today we'll be studying John chapter seven, a chapter that reveals the growing opposition to Jesus while also recording one of the greatest invitations he ever gave. If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. Let's begin with prayer. Heavenly Father, thank you for the privilege of opening your word today. As we study this chapter, help us to trust your timing, stand firmly for the truth, and come daily to Jesus, the only one who can satisfy our thirsty souls. Fill us with the Holy Ghost and strengthen our faith. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

Trusting God’s Perfect Timing

John begins telling us that Jesus remained in Galilee because religious leaders in Judea sought to kill him. Even his own brothers encouraged him to go publicly to Jerusalem and prove himself before the crowds, but Jesus answered, My time is not yet come. Those words reminded us that Jesus lived according to the Father's timetable, not the expectations of people. How often do we become impatient with God's timing? We want immediate answers, we want doors to open today. We want problems solved right now, but God delays our never mistakes. His timing is always perfect. If you're waiting on the Lord today, don't lose heart. The God who knows the end from the beginning is never late.

Who Do You Say He Is

When Jesus finally went to Jerusalem, the people began asking questions. Some said he is a good man. Others claimed nay, but he deceiveth the people. Throughout the chapter, people debated who Jesus really was. Some believed, some rejected him, others simply remained confused. The same thing happens today. Jesus still divides opinion. Some worship him as Lord, some dismiss him. Some admire him but never surrender to him. The question isn't what others believe about Jesus, the question is who do you say he is? Your answer determines your eternity.

Truth That Does Not Change

As Jesus taught in a temple, the people marveled at his wisdom. They knew he had not received the formal religious education of the rabbis, yet he taught with authority. Jesus explained that his doctrine came from the Father. Truth is not determined by popularity. Truth comes from God. In a world filled with opinions and changing values, God's word remains unchanging. When culture changes, Scriptures does not. When society shifts, Christ remains the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Jesus’ Invitation To The Thirsty

The greatest moment in this chapter comes during the Feast of Tabernacles. On the last day of the feast Jesus stood and cried with a loud voice, If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink. What an invitation. Jesus wasn't speaking about physical thirst, he was speaking to every heart, longing for forgiveness, for peace, for hope, and eternal life. Then he made this wonderful promise He that believeth on me, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. John explains that Jesus was speaking about the Holy Ghost, who would later dwell within every believer. Notice the picture, Jesus doesn't simply give enough water to survive, he fills us so completely that his life flows through us into the lives of others. When the Holy Ghost is at work in us, our joy, our love, our peace, and our witness becomes a blessing to those around us.

Overwhelmed By Jesus’ Words

The religious leaders sent officers to arrest Jesus, but they came back without him. When asked why, they replied, Never man spake like this man. Even those sent to arrest him were overwhelmed by his words. There has never been anyone like Jesus. No one has ever spoken with such authority, no one has ever loved like he loved, no one has ever offered salvation like he offers it. His words still change lives today. Before the chapter closes, Nicodemus, the same man who came to Jesus by night in John chapter three, quietly defended him. He reminded the religious leaders that their own law required a person to be heard before being judged. Although his faith was still growing, Nicodemus was beginning to stand for Christ. Sometimes spiritual growth happens one step at a time. God patiently strengthens our faith as we continue walking with him.

Practical Takeaways And Final Blessing

What can we learn from chapter seven? First, trust God's timing. His plans are always better than our own. Second, don't allow the opinions of the crowd to determine your faith. Decide for yourself who Jesus is. Third, come to Christ daily. Only He can satisfy the deepest thirst of your soul. Finally, allow the Holy Ghost to work through your life so that His love and truth flow into the lives of others. Father, thank you for sending Jesus, the one who satisfies every thirsty soul.
