This week, we have been joined by FC Nations Assistant Manager Jacob Williams to round-up the latest results from non-league football in Shropshire.
Welcome to episode four of the Chifling Town Shropshire Football Podcast. I would say Shropshire, Shropshire Football Podcast. And this week, we think we're at FC Nations. We didn't think we'd be on the road, did we? We thought it was going to be red sparring. Yeah. We could have chaptered, we could have chaptered. FC Nations and Medbase at Sports Village in Shrewsbury. And we have with us Jacob Williams. This is the assistant manager for the first year. Oh I know why you're looking at the camera as well. Amazing training. Anybody we have is better than us, have you no? Anyway, what a week, Rick. It's been a good week, isn't it? Lots of great feedback, and here we are, as say at Etsy Nations, and on the last pot. We didn't give the name away, but we did think that Telford Town had got a new incoming manager, didn't we? Which is. And we did know who it was, although he denied it to me when I sent him a message, and then next day, Mike Dunn's manager of Telford Town. Yeah. Now I know Mike, he was manager of Bilston, and um then well he didn't he he he packed it in, I think he he he basically did Edison and Bilston. He mowed the grass manager and they were they were doing really well. And then um yeah, bad car accident, yeah, and it took him quite a while to recuperate. I've seen him down the gym training, so he's uh he's quite impossible. Uh so we wish you all the best. Yeah, and we wish Telfer Town all the best. Uh we'll come to them in a minute. And one a week for Shiftnorith. Yeah, I mean obviously I'm sorry, Reb, we talk about Schiffnell January first.
SPEAKER_02They say there is links with Shiftnell with my service as well, so I do like seeing Shiftnell do well. I won't like, so it's always good to hear.
SPEAKER_00Well, we didn't do so well sadly.
SPEAKER_01No, but unfortunately the FA Cup didn't go that way, we just didn't have the number of the green day to be until uh one of the strikes obviously all the first half, and we have to cross second half and pushed hard, but couldn't quite find an equaliser for a week.
SPEAKER_00And had something council.
SPEAKER_01And they've been into step fourteens now, haven't they? So we looked to them in the next round and just leaked out. I think they've been drawn against well, yeah. Um and then obviously last night, Dave when we won a game, that was at Stafford Rangers. We went to uh beats bent from Stafford Rangers last night. Four-nil, four-nil three-nil at half time, yeah. Um and it was deserved, wasn't it? It wasn't you know lucky, it was very much you know, it could have been five or six come second half, and the team as all was fantastic, and I know that there are a lot of knocks and injuries within the squad and people playing through the pain barrier. I think as your lads have probably found by playing on these tough pitches and then the 3G as well, it's it's hard on the legs, isn't it? And uh, although we're only saying five weeks into the season for a lot of teams, um people are suffering already, aren't they?
SPEAKER_02I think uh they have found a lot of games in at a start, so everything starts to come down a little bit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean a bunch of this weekend, I mean we've got two more, you know, so Saturday, Monday, and yeah, it's in time something, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. But last night, I mean we were discussing it on the way over here. I think that's the best goal ever seen Shiftman play.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, in terms of the result, it's arguably one of the best in the club's history. I mean, winning Reddish United in an FA Cup when we were a step five and we were a step three was obviously next to the wall. We were we weren't fighting for our lives, weren't we? Yeah, in the last ten minutes literally, but uh last night was something special. To be fair, Stafford Rangers certainly acknowledge that were fully deserved, weren't they?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and uh in in terms of Shropshire football, you know, I mean we're sitting top of the Northern Premier League West. Yeah, um we've got uh Bridge North top of the North West Counties, they look shortly, they do, and Kiss of the Podcast all the time picked up their first week, yeah. Well, and also I mean uh down in the bottom of the county, we've got Ludlow Town was sitting second in the uh Hellenic Division one, so you know it's we've got to pre-season in very strong.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you can you can tell you can tell they're gonna do about this here.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so as we were talking before we came on, you know, it's great games for short three football. But um anyway, so just going round the leagues, uh Whitchurch. Um they lost to Congress United in the FA Cup. That's gonna be a tough ask against them, wasn't it? We need to know Comfort United last year, wasn't it? Yeah, uh they did that to Shooter last year. Yeah, uh 3-1, they lost uh they were 1-0 up at half time with Tom McAnally scoring, but um you know, not to be sometimes it can be a blessing, but you don't get back up there, you know. It sounds great, really.
SPEAKER_01And I think particularly for teams like Witchwoods when you're playing in the League Cup, the County Cup. I don't know if they're in the JW up cup, but it the lead the games really rack up, don't they? So they might be a blessing in disguise for them.
SPEAKER_00And they've got Dudley, Dudley Town, uh travelled there, and then Cheatletown is home on Mudley, so uh uh Emily there wants to go to those. Um Hellenic League Division 1, as I just said, uh Ludlow Town goes second with a 2-1 win against Cheltenham Samsons, the two know nothing about, so uh top to left. Uh Milan and Howard uh get Ludlow's goal. Shannon's only 66 at the Ludlow Stadium. Yeah, that's a good second, you know.
SPEAKER_02But come on, the paper of Ludlows go save considering it's the only really club in Ludlow's guy. Yeah, I think the ground's great as well. Yeah, that's a shame. Yeah, I'm sure they're four more drive people in my. How did you pick that then do when you played and then we lead we lost four or two at their place? At ours, it was on the uh 3G, but they were you can say we trained sort of a week before that game, they were training three weeks before that. You could just towel that league in Bardley, they were good.
SPEAKER_00You could tell they're gonna do well this year. And they've got uh Alston Town on Saturday, we were fifth in the league, so that's secondly fifth, that should be a good game. Uh Northwest um counties uh south, the League of Death in Shropshire. There's always a couple of that what a we've got Alsager Town 2, Bridge North 3, uh that sends Bridge North top, Daiger getting uh two, uh sorry one, and Sam Priest getting the other. And they've got New Mills on Saturday, so good luck to them. Are they coming on the pod, right? We yeah, we're getting Bridge North on Saturday. Yeah, yeah. Come on, lads, we want you on here. Um sorry, New Mills 3, I meant uh Matthew Boswell wishes it was. Shawtery 2, listen to this.
SPEAKER_01Last minute heartbreak, obviously.
SPEAKER_00Uh New Mills scored in the 96th and 97th minute to go from 2-1 down to 3-2. I didn't realise it was 3 minute 10. Yeah, yeah, right. Uh tough place to go though. Keran Taylor for Shawbury. Uh they dropped down a couple places to seven, put a very solid start, and uh and they entertained Dorming Town on something. That'd be a good game. That'd be a very interesting thing. And then we've got Telford Town 2, Red Social 2. Uh recent round with two for Telford Town, do you know we? I don't know. Uh solid start for Mike Doug, because Britain, they're a good site, they are. And uh Telford at 12th, and they go to Crew on Saturday. I think I'm a green and Wayne Chapman win the dog. They've been helping out, haven't they? Only temporarily. We're going to say nothing about their where they left, are we? No. And then we've got Dawley Town 3, Marky Drayton 1. And and I at the risk of peeing off everybody from Marky Drayton. It was nice to see Dawley Town sort of get some points on the board, and the way the manager passionately spoke was brilliant last week.
SPEAKER_01And I think uh Right inside Schiff's uh second choice goalkeeper is probably online there, and he said Dorley.
SPEAKER_00Well not only that quick. Uh healy got two, and there was a certain Patterson score. Would he be uh any connection? Yeah, brother, yeah. Yeah, youngest brother, I think. Yeah, yeah. Uh with Beaumont getting the goal for Marky Drayton, and there's a healthy 180th Dorney Towns. Yeah. Dorley is 16th now, and Marky Drayton 18th. Uh we've got All Scott Heath 7, uh Whitneystown Mill. Now Whitney's popping up the league at the moment, so but that's still an impressive winning. So there's two Maris, Rogers, Abison Cross and Davies, All Scott the 13th, and um Derby's key coming, they've got all Scott on the Sapphire. Wow, yeah. So I'll tell you there's no leaving, no letter again this week. Right, moving on to the TJ Vickers Shanghai Premier. I know. Elsmere at the top with 13 points from five, and um they had a two-dill away with NC United, Greybrook and Oliver for them. What do you know about them then? Either of them teams?
SPEAKER_02So Allesmere have always been strong this last um last couple of years. So last season they had a really good, really good grab. Uh they didn't get the results at the start of the season for them, so they were a little bit behind the Dawley and title rate, but Owlsbere's always a strong outfit. They've got good players, they've got it. Yes, and they beat Dawley in the final. Oursby laury always a strong outfit. They'll do well this year, they will. And then Emerson, um Paul Lewis has got in charge of them, and I only does well to be fair. I've got a lot of respect for Paul, so hopefully they pick up some results as well soon.
SPEAKER_00And uh Holmund, who she had this uh late player as well, they they've got a hundred percent record in second place, and uh they went to uh Clanny Minnek and uh one Jason Hard didn't press the button tie hard 11-0. Quite a bizarre three for uh Erin, two for Williamson, two for Wysopo in that. You know any of them guys? Yeah, we played against him the other week.
SPEAKER_02Um so we lost one nil, but it really did a reasonable game. Um give up to 11, didn't it? Yeah, it came from a sort of 90th minute winner for them, and I'll be surprised if their lad scores a better goal, uh, left the top corner, crossbar, innit? Yeah, but it was a really really good game, and they seemed quite good something yesterday.
SPEAKER_00And that brings us on to our OC Nations and you're third place. Yeah, I've just got to say, anybody looking, this is a great shirt. It is a lucky, I mean, you know, gotta be short and best shirt and shop. I did one of the podcasts. Anyway, um they're trying to take uh the crown away, the uh Godfest, but it's just MC Nation's nine, Telford Reserves nil. That's a that's a you'd expect Telford Reserves to be stronger, would you? I mean I would, you know.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know a couple of seasons ago they they were quite a decent outfit, and then we get we looked at we did take that manager last season, and then since then they do just seem to struggle, which isn't, which is a shame for a reserve team for a step six side like town for town. But fair play to those lads. The same as last season, you'd be the I think it was 8-1 and 7-1. Oh, I mean, and it's uh they don't they don't stop, and a lot of their lads and they stuck together with it as well, so I've got a lot of respect for them. But obviously, I know we've got resolve the week on the pod last week, didn't we? Against Wemtown 9-0. So now we've got another 9-nil win up with another.
SPEAKER_00Just cross-clock that. So two for Chalmer, two for Norry, two for Manson, and two for Thomas. Is that correct? Yeah, on that? Yeah, I think we must be missing one on there. Yeah, well, that's eight, isn't it? Three with one of these, and I thought we had one of the time on the podcast for all the gold.
SPEAKER_02Lewis, I think Sam Lewis might have got the other. I think Sam Lewis might have got the other. I could be complete.
SPEAKER_00Gold Share Armour, that's all that's good to see. And um very healthy that, and Church Street in 4th also with 100% record. Um, and then they're our contenders for nicest ground in Shropshire, unless you've put it. Yeah, it is a lovely ground, isn't it? Um and they uh regional Spartans ever top side, isn't that? Yes, Church Street and 3, regional Spartans Mill, Holdsworth 2 and Hill, and that was at Russell's Meadow, so uh say in the uh Shadow of the Hills there. So and a shout out also for Rockedine Wood and Whitchurch Allport, and they're going well just behind you for the top there. But I think he's out of here forward out there.
SPEAKER_02Hopefully, um but like I say, Richard recruited about this year, so they might recruit back up. Um but if it's anything like last season, then it was sort of a three-horse race last season, and then this year I do think if you were to ask people around the Shropshire League, I think they would say obviously not all.
SPEAKER_00Now, are you sort of looking at this league, you know, in the previous season? And shoes move in the corners were always sort of punching, you know, they're they say they dropped off this season.
SPEAKER_02Is that is that yeah, so they've done I think they won the league a couple of years ago, wasn't it? Yeah, they won that, and then last season they did lose quite a few players, so I know Steve Hall went off score, Alice Hughes went tower town, so they did lose players and management as well, and then they've just continued to lose players, really.
SPEAKER_00Which is so hopefully they won't pick after that. Once the Sunday league starts, that do your players sort of play a lot of games. So we've just started this weekend by them.
SPEAKER_02So we just so nation we won 5-1 on Sunday. So you get some that do play Sundays, some that don't. You do have to be careful as well with some players playing both. And is that is that in the Shrewsbury Sunday? Yeah, yeah, yeah. But it's kind of merged with Telford now. Telford don't have their own. No, that's we'll need Reeking, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01Reekon for our team in there? Yeah, Talf. Reeking View.
SPEAKER_00Yes, is there a shot? Is there a shift or connection with them, didn't you say?
SPEAKER_01Uh everyone, yeah, a few faces, but interestingly, the team that Reeking View played, I think it was Wordon. Yeah. Uh Dave Edwards next walls play it, played for them.
SPEAKER_00Oh we'll have to uh look out for them then. Yeah. They also have got a very nice shirt, Reeking View, I don't see that. Yeah, the white one. Yeah, it's nice that.
SPEAKER_02We might have a white kits. No, it makes me a set of white kits at all.
SPEAKER_00Right, so we're division one of the um of that league, the TJ Beakers, we've just a shout out from the inside Rangers, they're leading the way with 100% record. And I don't understand what's happening this week because you've got two teams in that. FC Nations reserves are third. And you've got FC Nations development as well, so beat Arcan Rangers 3-1.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so we had one development team in that last year, and then we had interest for a lot more players that wanted to play. So we're just giving them the access to be able to play football, really. So that our reserve side, a lot of those were the town for town reserves that started last season. Um, so they've come as our reserves now, and then we've got a development team as well. Very helpful, yeah. Yeah, so I'd say, in terms of the first team, if we ever need to rely on our reserve and development, there's plenty of players there that's good for it. Inevitable question. What happens when they play one another? Funny enough, it's next week. I think it was Monday night, and that's the first one everyone looks for. Is it tasty? It might be. Yeah, from a club perspective. Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. From a club perspective, we think beer draw. Yeah, beer, but you say they'll they'll both want to win that one. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Brighton Rice. Yeah, I'll see. So we'll we'll have to do, or I'll have to start having a quick look at the Sunday League right now and uh tap into that. Yeah, but uh and just to round everything off, we also uh have a couple of sides are playing in the Heavyfordshire Football League Premier. So we've got uh Cleale United, three points from two games, and at the moment pointless, um pointless in terms of no points, uh Ludlow Reserves, uh they went to high-fi and Lembry, they only lost two ones, so they'll get their season going. Uh Ellis were with a goal for them. Now, we also after you've uh discussed um FC Nations history with yourselves, we have our results of the week. Now I've crossed one off already, so it's uh Holland 11 mill. I think were the uh two, grido three, and you couldn't say goodbye as but Stephanie Ranger's the old sheet from four just has to be in there. Yeah, I understand.
SPEAKER_01So we'll we'll come back to that to over to uh you guys. Yes, and Jacob, thanks for inviting us over. Um can you just give us a bit of uh an insight into Assy Nations as a club in terms of the history?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so it started off because I think the NL three years, um so it was way before my time, but it started by 2013 with our chairman who's called the Flash. So he there was a lot of mads that just wanted to play football, so they've done it as a bit of a fibre side, nothing sort of serious there at all, and then it started just it just kept carrying on, carrying on, and it got to a point where they were like can we play games? Can we do flashball? Can we play games? Can we play games? So we organised friendlies and we were borrowing kits from other clubs, and it got to a point where they were failing to have a side friendlies and they thought, yeah, let's do it. So after that they just joined the Sunday League team, Sunday League as a Sunday League team, but making sure that Edit Burgers also think it's the track suit, and sort of Saturday League standards on a Sunday, so they've always just been a Sunday League team as well, and then I joined back end of 2023, uh and Sunday team as well. And I played Saturdays in MJL and moving to Saturdays with Alpha Town as well, and again just like we saw a vision. We do a Saturday time as well, and the squad we had on Sunday was really good. So conversations with uh with the chairman and we had a lot of uh push up Saturdays and then that was it really from there. We've always kept a Sunday team because that's where we come from. I think we always were but yeah, Saturdays we moved into there. We obviously meant to go into the day one league last year to the leading and go in the process. Last season was our first season, so we recruited we recruited from Alpha Town Reserves and the time and finished all five, yeah. Which was which was quite short, really. Yeah, yeah, so we say in meetings and you think it's where we're gonna finish really no one else happened to lead really finishing for us as we can say this year now, and we've got Tom H in charge, and busy AD for us, and Tom has got Queen's head and favourite office as well. We're created really well this year and yeah, is here just uh trying to do the best as he can. So yeah, we've shoes we talked, so we've never really crossed ourselves off with Talford and just said shoes we've been open to it, obviously the history of the club being FC Nation. We've had a lot of people from different nationalities coming down and playing for us, and we've always been open to that. Um, and then like I say, we've never said we're not Talford or we're not Shropshire, we're just shoes.
SPEAKER_01And that brings it all to what I was going to ask you too, to the name and the branding of the club.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it seems very inclusive. Yeah, we're very inclusive, and like I say, we've now this year we push for women to think about and like you say nation as wise, we've got a lot of different ethnicities and arts and nationalities, and like you say it's it's good really.
SPEAKER_01And children as well, don't we walk past as a media shoot going on for the junior team?
SPEAKER_02So last year we only had an under-thirtees um guilds team, whereas this year we've had a lot of clubs come over and ask us, Are you doing a junior section? We've really purchased the junior section. So, like I said, they all train here on a Wednesday night. Yeah, they're all doing a medium day at the moment. So like I say, with the juniors, we try and give them the best experience as well. And it's the same as last time I sat. It goes from, like you say, neighbours under seven all the way to men. So we have in a very short space of time we've progressed a lot as a club, really.
SPEAKER_01And in terms of the first team, like fixtures, has it been due to circumstances and like the ground shed that you've been playing on Friday nights, or has that been more of a strategic thing to try and get people through the door?
SPEAKER_00Both.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think it's a great idea.
SPEAKER_02It is we did want so the first game of the season against Altacomers, we requested the Friday night because it was our first game at the new ground, and we thought let's put a bit of a show here. Yes, we got a DJ on before the game as well. So it was a lot of entertainment there. Like I said, the game was a good game as well against Alpha Commons, and I think the gate was the game was best for probably at one of the best. Oh yeah, yeah. I think it was definitely 200. Oh, fantastic. Yeah, definitely at least 200 there. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, that was purely Friday on a depth in the door. Yeah. But since then the league decided to give us a few more Fridays. Which is it's alright because they say you have your Saturdays free, don't you? But now it's now the league has settled a bit with just Saturdays now for the next couple months, which is good we can train.
SPEAKER_01And the impression that I get about designations from the outside looking in is that it's a very progressive club. This isn't a club that just wants to plateau. You're looking to push and push, whether it's having more teams or you know the league positions, you're wanting to grow and expand.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean I'm exactly the same, obviously, I'm on the board as well, and for the chairman of Flash, we won't do anything just uh to stay where we are. We want to we want to push as far as possible. So our aim is to obviously push into step six, and like I say, with the comp pitch allows us to do that last season if we won the league. We wouldn't have been able to because we were on the 3G. Yeah, so having the comp pitch allows us to obviously recruit it well in the summer. So hopefully we give it a good shot this year. Um but like I say our aim is to be step six. So my aim personally and my dream for Nation is to see us in the I think I've got to be a good thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's trying to be anyway, but a similar sort of team wasn't it, you know. Yeah, yeah, it's certainly possible, isn't it? You know, um, I think there's quite a lot of love in the game at the moment for teams who are you know really rising through like clubs like Rex and teams like that who were you know trying to break the boulders, aren't they?
SPEAKER_02And like I say, that's what we've sort of done with Sunday League, Saturday standards, and then when we come into Saturdays, I'd like to say we've got sort of the better standards and facilities and kit, etc. in the league, so yeah, we're doing what we can to and off the field.
SPEAKER_01We've been very impressed with like the social media side of things as well. It seems like we've got a really good kind of media team. So are they people in voluntary roles or are they players who are kind of taking that on as a responsibility?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so our social media has always been good, and to be honest, when I first joined the club when it was Sunday League, that's what attracted me to nations. I had a media, and I was like, I don't even know if I want to do something. But the social media we look at me like I want to be part of that, so yeah, our social media has always a bit top, but that is just one time. Yeah, support and tell me work, and that is a media team, so we do have people that do social media outside of here as well, yeah, just doing it purely, really. Yeah, so I'd say no one gets a penny at this club.
SPEAKER_00We all can you make sure the social media team promotes our podcast.
SPEAKER_02I know we put a couple comments on there, I believe, haven't we? No, we're definitely we're definitely sharing and we're gonna be.
SPEAKER_01No, in terms of the team you mentioned about um there's a bit of a rockadine woodlake on the season, that's why there's quite a few players this season. There's quite a few names on the team if you like recognise from Right.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I say Andy um came across on rockers, Thomas played there previously, so naturally you get people wanting to follow, and like I say AD had conversations with those players and they all wanting to join. So obviously, we're thankful for that as a club and recruiting players that have won the league before. Um I was with Dawley last year or previously, and playing at higher levels is it is a good attraction. That's what we've got to put on the best we can, attraction for kids, facilities to kind of enticing them to come in.
SPEAKER_01Now, what we're intrigued about, Dave, is obviously the facilities are great, you know, everything's looking really set up, but where do the social elements take place in terms of where do you get a good beer?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so that is always a good problem with nations because we're not affiliated to a pub, never have all their own into it. That's where we are. That's where we are now. We've been to a few pubs. I'll be honest with you, we are into a few trying to find the one but coraco right around the corner. You can't go wrong with that, really. Decent price points as well.
SPEAKER_00I mean uh no, it's uh I think it it clearly, I don't know if the word the spaces you're breaking the mould of like traditional football. Yeah, you're doing things slightly differently, I think it's great to see it.
SPEAKER_02That is sort of one of us know that's deliberately different. We that is nations, we are deliberately different.
SPEAKER_01You said nations or nothing because I'm type right now.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, the chairman. If you're not nations, then uh but yeah, like you say, nations or nothing and deliberately different. We do push for it.
SPEAKER_00Anyone you want to give a shout out to? You know, you name the the chair Flash. Flash chairing.
SPEAKER_02Christian, his name is um but yeah, he's like he's always he's always done it, he's pushing, pushing a lot and works works hard. Um big shout to him, obviously we've got the board as well, Tom and Aiden, the management team for the first team. Yeah, um got good setup here and a lot of good people that do it for the love of the game, the love of nature and their own their own passions as well, which is good. You always need in these cards, don't you?
SPEAKER_00That's fantastic. So, who are your members results for week?
SPEAKER_01Guys, Dawley Towns resort the first ever win at that level's gotta be up there, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02Obviously, I wasn't at the ship again, I was at Dawley game, but Dawley went a bit. I was better for Dawley.
SPEAKER_00I thought the manager's passion last week. I mean he was infectious for me last year. Yeah, why didn't it be a tremendous guy? So yeah, Dawley. I mean the trouble is they bring to Scottish side, so but um you know we've got to share it about Dawley 3, Mark and Drake and one. Yeah, I suppose they resulted the week. Yeah. So that's another podcast. Thank you for having us on the next one. Thank you. It's great to see. I mean, just walking past and seeing that media. There's a bus. Yeah, it's different.
SPEAKER_02So you say we all do on a Wednesday night as well for that reason. A lot of other clubs will have Tuesday junior years, Wednesday, Thursday, and then etc. Let's try and get everything on a Wednesday, get a proper feel about the club together, like so. There is a business on a Wednesday night.
SPEAKER_00A new year on Saturday?
SPEAKER_02Or from a game Saturday, we've got a game tomorrow against Rockwardine Wood. So where's that here? At TCAP, that is at the collar as well. So that should be a good game, I think. Oh no, I don't I don't want to be standing on the side by me.
