Welcome to episode five of the Shiftnell Town and Shropshire football podcast. Rolling off the tongue a bit. You haven't got to look at it as much. And uh our viewing figures, these these um YouTube versions, they go down well, don't they?
SPEAKER_01They're creeping up, they're creeping up.
SPEAKER_00More watchers than listeners. Yeah, yeah. So uh we'll have to start dressing up for this, don't they? Um Dinner. Yeah, it must be the fastest growing football podcast in the country, mustn't it? Quite possibly. Gotta be, gotta be. So we're in the Reds Bar tonight. We are, we're back home. Yeah, Shiftel Town's Reds Bar.
SPEAKER_01I've just had a function and just have, I think, signing on night for one of the junior teams for the event.
SPEAKER_00So we've cleared all the kids out and uh we're back in here. Um so firstly some news, Rick. Not a lot of news and gossip at the moment, but you tend to find that you get a bit of a lull, don't you?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's not like the Premier League with a transfer deadline, is there, or anything, so it's kind of ongoing, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00But you what you get at this point of the season, you start to get players who've been signed and off and played, they're getting itchy feet, and in the next few, you know, you can there'll be a lot of movement. There'll be a lot of movement. Um, and uh there's been a couple, been a couple, both involving uh Market Drayton, actually. That are well, in fact, there's been three as far as I can see. First one, uh CM Matthews has moved to uh Wolhampton Casuals from Market Drayton after a seven-day approach. Okay. Dean Gill moving uh swiftly to capture somebody there, and Ellesmere Rangers, who play in the TJ Vickers, they've signed uh Ryan Taylor from Market Drayton. So Market Drayton have lost a couple there. And Mike Dunn, did you see that Telford Town?
SPEAKER_01That's Shaq MacDonald. I'm guessing possibly lads who were with him at Bill Street. He was, yeah.
SPEAKER_00In fact, we thought when we first read it, we thought Shaq. No, he's he's happy.
SPEAKER_01Um have you seen and did Telford sign anybody else? Um I don't think so. I think um Dawley have signed Tom Hill, haven't they, ex Schiffnot player? Oh, right, yeah. So you'd be a good signing for that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they talked. Did he talk about that on the podcast um last year?
SPEAKER_01No, I don't think so.
SPEAKER_00Mind you, while we're talking Dawley Town, um, good news story uh about that.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00They played at Shawbury and uh left the away dressing rooms in an immaculate. Spotless, did you say, yeah, good bit of sportsmanship. Yeah, and Shawbury posted all about it, you know, they'd just been beat by them, but they put on, and I thought I thought that was fantastic by both clubs.
SPEAKER_01Well, a little bit biased, but of course Schiffnell as well being very accommodating of um Cliver Ope arriving late to the game.
SPEAKER_00That's true, that's true.
SPEAKER_01We didn't moan, did we? Delayed kickoff by 15 minutes.
SPEAKER_00Do you know? I don't think you always think that the team turning up late are the ones at the disadvantage, don't you? But I think it's the team who are kicking the wheels, warming up. That's it, waiting. That's our excuse, but we'll come to that in a minute.
SPEAKER_01So if we don't have drama on the motorway when we end up there in the New Year's, it could be arty.
SPEAKER_00It's a long way to clear the road, Jim. You know, I I went on the train last season. And um Manchester? I got to Manchester, right and you have to swap stations and you know, swap stations. I thought, well, you know, I'll be there in about 45 minutes. With another two hours. You're only halfway. So uh right. And uh also we've missed a Shropshire team. We've missed one. Have they complained or have you just spotted it? But I was doing a bit of research because we were worried that uh we'd missed Eccleshul, but no, Eccleshall are in Staffordshire. Okay, that's all right enough. Although they do share a boundary with Shropshire, so we might be able to claim 'em. Yeah. But no, Bishops Castle, I think. Bishops Castle, yeah, lovely part of the world. Bishops Castle Town, and they they currently uh they're in the Central Wales League. Okay. So I've no doubt Jeff's been to Wales.
SPEAKER_01Probably been a ground up in.
SPEAKER_00And uh they've they're not off the mark yet, not off the mark, so they're they're having a tough start to the season, but they've got a guy, uh Tom Edwards, uh, and he's currently got four goals, so you know, in a struggling team, he uh potent striker. And on the 12th of September's the next game uh against Ford and United. So we must keep our eyes open for them. And the other thing I was doing, I was thinking, well, there must be a team in Oswald Street. Where's Oswest Street? And of course it's TNS. TNS, yeah. And they seem to be the only football side in Oswald Street.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they've been in Europa League actually.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, well, we can't really feature this on a sort of a non-league podcast, can we? But um, so yeah, that's the research done. Very good. Uh right. We better talk about Schiffnell Town.
SPEAKER_01Well, Saturday had to be one of the craziest games ever. We were 3-0 up comfortably against Rugby Borough. I think you decided to go home because you thought the game was done and dusted.
SPEAKER_00Well, I I've got I was going to the Pinkridge Music Festival, so I've got to shoot. But if it was three-nil, I'll be back.
SPEAKER_01If it was three-oil, you would have stayed, wouldn't you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I would, but I thought three as the as the penalty was slotted in, I don't know. Yeah. That's it.
SPEAKER_01And then as soon as you left, they pulled two back. And at one point it did look like they were going to get their recoil if they weren't very close. But then uh Andre Landau scored a four for Shiftnell, and thankfully that was done and dusted. So Shiftnell got great for them. Shepshead Shepshed Dynamo. I had to get my teeth in there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and they're in the Midland uh step four. I think so, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Uh northern, north, northern Premier League Midlands.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so that'll be a tough test. Um home draw, which is good. And then uh Bank Holiday Monday.
SPEAKER_00Just before, you know, when it was 3-2, I'd gone. Yeah, was there any shouting going on from the sidelines at all?
SPEAKER_01Uh no, no, no. Jeff wasn't getting carried away. I think Jeff was relatively calm considering probably more in shock than I think. Um, and then uh Bank Holiday Monday League Action against Cliverow, they were a good side, weren't they? They were, they were a good side, and to be fair, first half they were unlucky to only go in one nil up. It could have been a couple more. But then Shift 0 came out a lot better in the second half, uh, got an equaliser, uh, had a couple of penalty claims themselves, but then uh you had a really good view of uh Clivoro's penalty, which was a debatable one apparently.
SPEAKER_00Well, it's not often that the Clitheroe fans go over to the ref and barrack him as he's leaving the pitch, calling him a blind, this, that, and the other. But thank you, we'll take it. That's what they were saying.
SPEAKER_01It swings and roundabouts doesn't need you though, I'm sure shifting a little bit. We'll get over it. Absolutely. So um no fed is to Clitherow getting the win. Um, and then we've got a free weekend this weekend with no FO Cup action, so a little bit of a rest for the players after quite an intense August and start to the season. Still join top though, aren't we? Yep, still looking good on the league table, but um, as we know, it's a marathon, not a sprint, and uh a long way to go yet. Ah, but we'll take it, won't we? Absolutely, it's been a great start. Yeah, great start to the season.
SPEAKER_00So well done, boys. Absolutely. Uh moving on then, uh Shropshire football. Um in the Midland League Premier Division, um the only Shropshire side playing in this, Whitchurch, Whitchurch, Allport. They've suffered a couple of defeats, have you seen?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they've had some tough fixtures though, haven't they?
SPEAKER_00Um Windsford and Brockton, yeah, Dudley for Allport 0. And then um they lost to Cheadle 2-1.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's it's it's just one of those things, isn't it? Again, there's been a lot of games, maybe they've got a few injuries um to deal with as well. You don't know, do you? But um Well, we know Jason will sort it out. We do, you'll sort it out as a great guy, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Uh Bill West getting Allport's goal, and they travel to Lie Town on Saturday.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Lietown are flying high, aren't they?
SPEAKER_00They've got some good results. Living up to their name. Yeah, um, a good time to go to Lye, though, with the pitch still in um reasonable condition. Yeah, because it generally deteriorates.
SPEAKER_01I guess in the cricket season still going on there, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00It is, yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, and down in the south of the country uh county, Rick, Ludlow Town, they sit fourth in the Hellenic Division I.
SPEAKER_01Flying high.
SPEAKER_00Uh played seven, 14 points. Good return. Yeah, mixed weekend. Ludlow Town 0 Ulster 1, but then they travelled across to Bromyard. Good win at Bromyard. Yeah, Bromyard Town 1, Ludlow 2. Very good win. Ryan Clark getting both for them, and then they uh they entertain old mates of ours, Studley, on Saturday.
SPEAKER_01They always seem to be in closely contested games, don't they? I think all the results you've given for Ludlow, it's always one goal either way, isn't it? So yeah, team to keep an eye on.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and we we have to get them on the podcast one of the days, if they have if they're listening. Yeah. So over to the um Northwest County's South, uh, the Shropshire uh League of Death.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Bridge North, proudly lead the way.
SPEAKER_01Still going, aren't they? Like a train.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, Bridge North three, New Mills two. Uh they've scored some goals, haven't they? Deja has, I tell you, it's a hot shot, indeed. Somebody might be looking the team, I reckon.
SPEAKER_01You never know, but as a team though, they're averaging probably three goals a game, aren't they?
SPEAKER_00At least. I think they leak a few as well, but um, you know, they just work on scoring more than they get. Uh let it go. They're a standing watch. Yeah, gotta be. Although, again, I think in attendance, 102. You'd have thought bank holiday, you might get more grid o than that. Uh, Deja, Evans, and Anoni for them, and they were two-one down at half time. So um Griffo and Turts did the did the team talk and got them got them moving. And uh the derbies never stopped coming. They've got one every week.
SPEAKER_01That's gonna be a good game.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, talking of which, Shawbury. Um, they're currently ninth with 10 points from seven. We've all all already references Shawbury kneel Dawley Town two, Ross Jones with two.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're they've had two wins, haven't they, since put coming on the podcast?
SPEAKER_00So their manager was standing watching our game uh Monday, and I did remind him he ain't lost since 100% record since he came on this podcast. So let's hope it continues for him. You know, if you want to get uh turn your season round, come on the pod. Or if you're winning, maybe stay away. Yeah, that's a good idea, yeah. Um so Dorley have rocketed up to 11th, yeah. Uh 7.5, as I say, 100% record since I came on here. Um moving on. Allscott Heath one, Marky Drayton two, George Cross for All Scott and um Armando Wood. Do you know him? Yeah, I think he was it who did they play?
SPEAKER_01I think he used to be at Allscott actually. Oh, right, Armando Wood and Sutton got the goals. It's a big win for Drayton, isn't it? Because they've had a bit of a mixed start to the season.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, All Scott uh five five points from seven, so they're stuttering along. Yeah, and Market Drayton six points from six, so similar, similar, you know. Um they're not in the bottom, you know, in the relegation places, but they could both do have a win. Uh talking of which, um crew two, Telford Town one. Um Mike Dunn, yeah. Well, he's he's it's changed.
SPEAKER_01The games are getting a lot closer, aren't they? Yeah, yeah, yeah. They've had some quite heavy defeats, didn't they? But um it's by the odd gold now, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00And Joe Coff scored late on, so he's starting to hit hit his stride in.
SPEAKER_01With his weaker foot, I think, as well, in the top corner. Wasn't it? Yeah, pictures I've seen online, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Alright. Um, so all the best to them at the weekend, and high riding Eccleshill, who have a boundary putting uh Shropshire. Uh they're in third, uh, they're in Staffordshire, not Shropshire, but um they play Dorley on Satby, and that's got to be game of the week.
SPEAKER_01Absolutely, and they've still got um Archie, Elsden, and East of February as well, um, on dual registration from Schiffnellship. So a bit of a Shiftnall interest there.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we'll keep our eyes on that game. Uh Market Drayton hosts Cheadleheath nomads and Telford Town uh travel uh across to Wednesfield community. So uh some good some good games there. Now on to the uh TJ Vickers League. Um tight at the top, and we uh we featured FC Nations last year. They were a good club, weren't they?
SPEAKER_01They were, they were cracking, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was impressive. Um top of the league, Ellesmere Rangers, they're top with 16 points from six. Um, they won 3-0 at Wembtown, Millington, Bailey, and Lloyd. So they've had a cracking start. But now this is where I'd lost my notes, Rick, but we had to hastily rewrite them. So this is a rewritten page five. Uh Hormond in second, um 15 points from five. Good return.
SPEAKER_01Good return.
SPEAKER_00Um and on Saturday they played uh Dawley Swifts. Right. Uh and it was Dawley Swift's Neil Horman, 10.
SPEAKER_01Double figures.
SPEAKER_00I know. We've uh brace for bound uh Russia and Hole. Yeah. FC Nations, uh they're in third. Third. They played the night we were interviewed, or the night after we spoke to them last week, didn't they? Surely we got a win. Rockedine Wood won, FC Nations four. It's the podcaster. FC Nations in third. Um, Ashley Mansell uh and Norrie getting the goal amongst the goals for them. Church Stretton, uh, they've got a hundred percent record, but they had the game. Game called off, wasn't it? Yes, sir. I don't know why, do you?
SPEAKER_01Uh presumably the weather, I don't know. Yeah, maybe a Waterlogs pitch property.
SPEAKER_00Could be, yeah, who'd have thought that? Yeah. Um they've got a hundred percent record, 12 points from four. Um, and then got a bit of good news for Whitchurch, you know, that um and if Jason wants to do anything, look at his reserves, I suppose, because they uh they're fifth and they're in a crackerjack game. Uh oh, they play in Wolverhampton or Brighton, weirdly. Or Brighton.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because you'd say that'd be a bit of a derby for Shift All Brighton.
SPEAKER_00Or Brighton uh four, Whitchurch seven, just the eleven goals, eh? Yeah, just and uh so I think um Luke Mason got uh quite a number, four or five for Whitchurch, so he might be worth having, you know, sticking up it into the first team. And then we got the um Fiat, the the the uh first division. First division, yeah. Mearside Rangers, 18 points from six, Rick.
SPEAKER_01Wow.
SPEAKER_00Uh and they played Roquedine and it was Mir side five, Roquedine would nil.
SPEAKER_01Yep, side win.
SPEAKER_00And uh FC Nations, they're next, they come next, and they just had the uh FC Nations reserves, they just got the regulation 16 nil win.
SPEAKER_01Well I'm right. I think one of my colleagues plays for the plays for the losing side, so I'll have to Ada's yeah, Ada's article, is it? Yes, Ada's arcle. I'll have to have a chat with him and get a bit of a report.
SPEAKER_00Just the 16-nil win.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I I think that I think there's some ridiculous scores in that league. So uh hey. So that's that uh put to bed for this week, and then we've got the uh Sunday League. Well, we were gonna feature the Sunday League we think.
SPEAKER_01No game, no i holiday.
SPEAKER_00Could they have played on a Sunday? You know, they'll be playing three times a bloody week. Come on. I think they've only played one game, haven't they? Only one game played, and there's only three teams with a hundred percent record. That's FC Nations, AFC, uh Westfelton, FC, and Reeking View.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I saw Reeking View had a bit of good news they'd been accepted into the uh the National Sunday League Cup.
SPEAKER_00So that should be uh they're in it last season, they lost to Emerald, didn't they? Yeah, I think yes, that's right, yeah, yeah. Uh good knowledge, innit? So yeah, there you go. Yeah. Uh and uh in that division, I'd say the game of the season so far, well, it's a bit early to call. Go on, was Baston Hill FC six, Wenlock Dynamos five. Ooh, wow. What a game. Yeah. And completing the roundup, um the Herefordshire Premier. Yeah. Uh Clee Hill 5, Hereford Pegasus Development 3.
SPEAKER_01It's not been a weekend for the goalkeepers, has it?
SPEAKER_00Uh two for Hall and Millwood, and they're eighth. So they're you know, having a solid start to the season. And this is I feel a bit aggrieved for Ludlow Town Reserves playing in that league. They're bottom, they ain't got a point yet, they can't get going. But they they they went to Kington Town, lost four, three. You know, that's tough, you know, when you're on the road losing four three. Clearly, they're not a bad start. Yeah, they're just having uh not the rubber the green. No, Ryan Clark 2 and uh Cole for them. So come on, Ludlow Town research. So that's the roundup. Short slim pickings this week, not that many games. Yeah, yeah, but uh so that comes on to results of the week.
SPEAKER_01Well, I heard that Shift Mill's manager wasn't too impressed when we gave it to Dawley last week.
SPEAKER_00Well, do you know? I think we've got to give it him again. Dawley? Yeah, and I know it's not a Dawley loving, honestly, and I know there's results like 16-0 and 7-60s and Horman 10, Dawley. But I think for football, football was a winner, Shawbury nil, Dawley 2. Absolutely. And both teams were praising, and I thought that was that was brilliant. Yeah, yeah. Typical of Matthew Boswell, you know, but I thought for Dawley Town to It's a big result for them, wasn't it?
SPEAKER_01Because Shawbury have had a solid start, haven't they?
SPEAKER_00So I know it's turning into a Dawley loving, but I think we should yeah, you're happy. Let's go for it. Let's go for it.
SPEAKER_01So um we got uh what's happening with Shift Null now? So three weekends, and then um I think Chase Town at home, isn't it? Um that'll be a good tie. Hopefully, get a decent gate as well. Yeah, of course. It was a 236, wasn't it, on Saturday, which wasn't Monday. Yeah, so that wasn't too bad, but hopefully that can creep up being midweek.
SPEAKER_00Chase down will bring a view, isn't it?
SPEAKER_01They will, yeah, yeah, yeah. So we'll see what happens. And the Reds Bar? Red Spar. Um live seeing us on a Friday, I'm pretty sure. So not sure who's on this week, but uh I think Elvis was in the building not so long ago. Was he? Yeah. Has he left?
