morning I'm tasked with continuing in the series that you all have been walking through in Galatians. 00:01:28.000 --> 00:01:39.359 And this morning we are going to look at verse at chapter 5, and we're gonna read verses 16 through 26. 00:01:39.760 --> 00:01:49.120 Again, that's Galatians 5, and we're gonna begin reading at verses 16 through 26. 00:01:49.840 --> 00:01:51.599 Hear the word of the Lord. 00:01:51.920 --> 00:01:57.760 Then I say then, walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 00:01:58.079 --> 00:02:09.439 For the flesh lust against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh, and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 00:02:09.759 --> 00:02:15.919 But if you are led by the spirit, you are not under 00:03:56.159 --> 00:04:01.120 The first one is I want to talk about to walk in the Spirit. 00:04:01.439 --> 00:04:04.800 The second one is to be led by the Spirit. 00:04:05.039 --> 00:04:09.360 The third one is to be is to live by the Spirit. 00:04:09.520 --> 00:04:12.960 And the fourth one is to surrender to the Spirit. 00:04:13.280 --> 00:04:17.680 Now, before I go any further, I understand that this is Father's Day. 00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:32.800 I'm excited because being a father, there is no greater joy it is than to see your loved ones and to be uh the go-to person for all the --> 00:05:02.319 Scripture tells us, says, then walk in the spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 00:05:02.800 --> 00:05:10.160 To walk in the spirit means that we have to surrender to what the will of the spirit is. 00:05:11.040 --> 00:05:24.000 But as men, sometimes when things don't go the way that we think they should go, we have a tendency of taking matters into our own hands. 00:05:25.040 --> 00:05:33.040 And if we're true and we're honest with ourselves, sometimes we don't lend and lean into sometimes the best decisions. 00:05:34.639 --> 00:05:38.560 Because by tendency, we want to fix things. 00:05:38.720 --> 00:05:59.439 And so, yes, we're believers, yes, we love the Lord, but there's sometimes we're faced with issues in our lives that cause us to step away from what we know to be right, to fulfill the lust of the flesh, to tell you what I feel and what I think about you. 00:06:00.800 --> 00:06:02.560 Is that a fair statement? 00:06:03.920 --> 00:06:10.319 The reality is that it's not just for men, but it's also for women as well. 00:06:10.560 --> 00:06:17.920 Because when things don't go your way, the first thing that you will probably say is, I'm gonna tell them what I think. 00:06:19.759 --> 00:06:29.839 And you love the Lord, you pray, amen, you read your Bibles, you do the devotionals, you have your journal, you do all the great things that you're supposed to do as a good Christian woman, but let someone cross you the wrong way. 00:06:31.360 --> 00:06:32.879 Bless your heart. 00:06:34.959 --> 00:06:35.600 Amen. 00:06:36.639 --> 00:06:42.959 So we have a tendency of sometimes stepping out of the spirit to walk in the flesh. 00:06:43.279 --> 00:06:51.040 To put this text into context, to walk in the spirit, it is a wider usage of means that we typically don't understand. 00:06:51.199 --> 00:07:03.439 To walk in the spirit is not just in a general sense, but to walk around after following, it means to walk around after or following someone to walk in a particular direction. 00:07:04.000 --> 00:07:09.439 For those who walk in the spirit rely on the help of the Holy Spirit. 00:07:09.759 --> 00:07:12.079 Because we can't do it on our own. 00:07:12.319 --> 00:07:15.360 Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as the helper. 00:07:16.000 --> 00:07:32.639 In John 14, 26, Jesus says these words, but the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, shall teach you all things and bring you to remembrance all the things that I've said to you. 00:07:33.199 --> 00:07:34.720 Now, this is what Scripture says. 00:07:34.879 --> 00:07:37.759 He says, the Holy Spirit will be your helper. 00:07:38.399 --> 00:07:56.879 So when times come when we feel like we have to say what's on our minds, because somebody didn't tick us off, or things didn't work out the way that they thought the way the way that we thought they should work out, then it is at that moment that we rely on the Holy Spirit that dwells with inside of us. 00:07:57.040 --> 00:08:00.800 And it's that voice that we hear that says, be still. 00:08:09.680 --> 00:08:14.000 It is not your responsibility to repay evil for evil. 00:08:14.240 --> 00:08:22.959 But sometimes we have a tendency of allowing the flesh to war with the spirit. 00:08:24.000 --> 00:08:33.679 Paul is reminding us to help us understand that we are to walk in the spirit and not in the flesh, not gratifying our own desires. 00:08:33.919 --> 00:08:39.440 Because when we begin to gratify our own desires, it leads down a slippery slope. 00:08:39.679 --> 00:08:43.039 It leads us into places that we really don't want to go. 00:08:43.200 --> 00:08:48.480 It causes us to say certain things that an apology will not suffice for. 00:09:28.799 --> 00:09:56.399 Yield to the Holy Spirit's control, to follow his lead, to go where the spirit leads, to listen to the voice, to discern his will, and to allow him to exert, exert his influence in our lives. 00:09:57.039 --> 00:10:07.919 When we begin to yield to Holy Spirit's control, then what happens is we will prevent ourselves from getting in a lot of trouble. 00:10:09.120 --> 00:10:14.559 When we yield our control, then what we're doing is we're allowing the Holy Spirit to lead us. 00:10:14.639 --> 00:10:17.759 We're not walking in our flesh, but we're walking in the spirit. 00:10:17.919 --> 00:10:35.519 Now, sometimes it's hard because, again, we are emotional people and we have to subject ourselves, our flesh, to the spirit and the will of God because if we don't, it'll cause chaos, it'll cause casualties. 00:10:36.799 --> 00:10:41.919 But practically, this can't be done in our own power. 00:10:42.320 --> 00:10:48.159 Those who walk in the spirit must rely on the Holy Spirit to guide them through their thoughts, words, and deeds, and actions. 00:10:49.120 --> 00:10:52.240 Jesus says these words in John 16, 13. 00:10:52.639 --> 00:11:02.799 However, when the Spirit of truth has come, He will guide you into all truth. 00:11:04.159 --> 00:11:05.759 He will guide you. 00:11:09.039 --> 00:11:16.000 In situations that we're at a crossing point. 00:11:19.600 --> 00:11:21.759 And we have a decision to make. 00:11:24.320 --> 00:11:28.320 Do we do and say how we feel? 00:11:29.919 --> 00:11:38.879 Or do we bite our tongue, pray, and allow the Lord to fight for us? 00:11:41.600 --> 00:11:51.679 Because it may feel good in the moment to tell someone how you feel, or to respond the way that you feel. 00:11:52.960 --> 00:12:04.639 But when the Holy Spirit speaks to you, that voice, Jesus says, My sheep know my voice. 00:12:05.759 --> 00:12:08.240 They hear it, they recognize it. 00:12:08.720 --> 00:12:22.799 And when the Spirit speaks to you and tells you not to say anything, to be still and know that I'm God, that I got your back, that you are in total control of this situation, then that's when we find peace. 00:12:22.960 --> 00:12:26.240 That's when we yield to the will of God. 00:12:28.399 --> 00:12:31.519 But it takes a decision. 00:12:34.399 --> 00:12:43.120 The Holy Spirit is not going to enforce himself or press himself on you unless times we sing songs about Holy Spirit, take control. 00:13:05.679 --> 00:13:08.000 I'm letting you have my life. 00:13:08.240 --> 00:13:10.639 You can have me, you can lead me. 00:13:10.799 --> 00:13:18.559 But when it comes to situations, we have to now practice what we've preached and what we've sang about. 00:13:19.600 --> 00:13:35.039 But when we decide to get in our feelings and we want to retaliate because of what has been done to you, and begin to allow ourselves to walk in the flesh, and that becomes problematic. 00:13:36.080 --> 00:13:40.480 When we walk in the spirit, you should not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 00:13:42.879 --> 00:13:49.039 Walking in the flesh is not just something that you deal with. 00:13:50.159 --> 00:13:57.679 Walking in the flesh is what I deal with, what Pastor Russ deals with, what every pastor deals with. 00:14:01.039 --> 00:14:05.440 We're all tempted, as James 1.14 says. 00:14:05.600 --> 00:14:12.080 It says, but each one is tempted when he's drawn away from his own desires and enticed. 00:14:13.519 --> 00:14:18.320 Then when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. 00:14:19.279 --> 00:14:24.559 And sin when it is full grown, brings forth death. 00:14:26.879 --> 00:14:34.159 You know, the reality is that we're all tempted to walk in the flesh. 00:14:36.000 --> 00:14:44.080 But it's the Spirit of the Lord that causes us to be drawn back to walk in the spirit. 00:14:45.360 --> 00:14:46.639 It's hard. 00:14:47.919 --> 00:14:54.559 For anyone who's walked this walk of faith for any amount of time, understand how difficult it can be. 00:14:54.720 --> 00:15:02.720 Yes, it is exciting when we surrender our lives to Christ because we know that our names are written in the Lamb's Book of Life and that we're going to spend eternity in heaven. 00:15:02.799 --> 00:15:10.080 But one of the things that we fail to tell you is that this walk is hard in your own authority. 00:15:12.320 --> 00:15:18.879 But it becomes easier when you walk it in the spirit. 00:15:20.799 --> 00:15:24.720 Second point, to be led by the Spirit. 00:15:24.879 --> 00:15:33.679 In verse 16 and 19, there are times that we have to be led. 00:15:36.799 --> 00:15:39.519 As leaders, we're taught to lead. 00:15:39.919 --> 00:15:49.039 As men, fathers, we're we're we're we're we're we're expected to lead our families, our children. 00:15:49.840 --> 00:15:54.960 If we're an employer in a job force, we we are expected to lead. 00:15:55.840 --> 00:15:59.279 But it's okay to be led. 00:16:02.240 --> 00:16:08.399 When you're led in a right way, we're led by the leadership of this church. 00:16:08.960 --> 00:16:17.279 We're led spiritually by men and women who are positioned to do and to fulfill what God has called them to do. 00:16:17.440 --> 00:16:27.360 But we also have to understand that when we're led by the Spirit, we're totally yielding, we're surrendering to the perfect will of God. 00:16:28.399 --> 00:16:39.200 When Paul is telling us to be led by the Spirit, he is referring to the fact that we should be open and receptive to the Holy Spirit's guidance. 00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:48.399 Men, me. 00:16:49.360 --> 00:17:36.400 --> 00:17:47.680 When Paul is referring to the fact that we should be open and receptive to the Holy Spirit's guidance, he's ultimately saying, look, it's okay to realize that it's not about you. 00:17:49.440 --> 00:17:54.240 You don't have to have the last say, you don't have to feel like you have to be right. 00:17:56.319 --> 00:18:02.079 It's a hard thing to allow to happen in our lives. 00:18:03.839 --> 00:18:08.400 But with the Spirit's help, he leads us. 00:18:11.279 --> 00:18:19.359 But when we resist and we are reluctant, here's the evidence of what happens. immorality, impurity, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, which is hostile and hatred, strife, discord, conflict, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalry, competition, dissension, division, drunkenness, orgies, all these things are alike. 00:18:48.319 --> 00:18:57.680 When we begin to not operate in the spirit, then what happens is we begin to allow other things to control our lives. 00:19:00.319 --> 00:19:32.319 Where have we allowed the flesh to become evident in our lives? 00:19:34.559 --> 00:19:39.279 Do we throw fits of anger when things don't go our way? 00:19:42.799 --> 00:19:46.640 Are we drawn away by hostility, by conflict, by discourse? 00:19:46.799 --> 00:19:47.920 Are we competitive? 00:19:48.079 --> 00:19:49.440 Do we have competitions? 00:19:49.519 --> 00:19:55.039 You know, one of the things that is so real is that the Joneses are some some crazy is a crazy family. 00:19:57.119 --> 00:20:02.319 Because when we're in competition, we try to keep up with the Joneses. 00:20:05.680 --> 00:20:09.279 But we have to make sure that our hearts are right. 00:20:11.519 --> 00:20:20.000 We have to make sure that every step that we take, every moment, every conversation, God, do I allow you to have total control, or do I handle the situation a way that I know how to handle it that's best useful for me? 00:20:40.319 --> 00:20:43.279 The reality is that God says, I got to allow bitterness, anger, envy, conceit, and all contentions to begin to enter my life, what happens is that sin controls. 00:21:08.720 --> 00:21:10.799 Then we wonder, how do we get in this To live in the Spirit is acknowledged, and it is acknowledging that our life is not our own. 00:23:49.519 --> 00:23:58.480 It belongs to God who deposited the Holy Spirit to guide our actions.
