Record voice memo Hi there, I'm Terry McCafferty. My friends call me T McSee. I'm in primary six, should be in primary seven, but I was held back a year. I'm the only boy in the class with long pants. All the others are in shorts. So for the most part I'm taller, smarter than all the kids in my class. Funnier too, but we'll get to that. My best friend is Michael Senechak, also known as Senny. Every day when primary six ends, Senny goes over to the academy across the street, and visits the woodwork teacher, mister Gruggan. You might have heard of him, he's been in one or two stories, so I'm told. There, under the watchful eye of the master, Senny makes sculptured firewood icons that I help him sell at the open air market at the Liberties. Every Saturday, rain or shine and in Dublin, it's often rain. But business is booming. What with his skills, my banter, and location, location, location. To tell you, some people will buy anything. Our teacher in primary six is Mr Foley, fearless Foley is what we call him, because he's not frightened to match variable wit with anyone, the headmaster, for example, other teachers, and of course his prized possessions, us, the pupils. He's a tick laket, but he makes up for it with this dazzling sense of humor which we appreciators call banter. Every day before closing bell signals end of lessons, we have Foley's follies for some ten minutes or so, sometimes longer when he's in the mood. It's my favorite part of the day. We even have a banter wall of fame where he pins the banter of the week every Friday after school. First thing following the Monday, we cluster around a bulletin board to relive last week's classic. Modest day aside, I'm proud to say that my name has been on the board a couple of times. Last week's was a real doozy. Watch the watch. The week before that, church may be calling for me, but I'm not calling for the church. Yesterday might have topped him all. Mr Foley was in the middle of a lesson on the Eastern nineteen sixteen rebellion, and the class nuge, Gex Gallagher, kept interrupting him. Now when Mr Foley gets up ahead of steam in the history period, he doesn't like to be interrupted by anyone. Period. So he stopped in mid sentence, glared at Gex, and with maximum annoyance blurted, Gallagher, you're so wee, even your underpants have done ups.
