In this closing episode of Season 1 of Carolina Small Town Voices, host and producer J.D. Ross reflects on what happened when the guests began sharing their stories. Without being asked or knowing what the others had said, guest after guest delivered the same simple message: love your neighbor.

That message changed the direction of the podcast and revealed something bigger than the original idea. It isn't just a message for small towns. It applies to cities, communities, countries—and every one of us.

J.D. also shares what may come next for Carolina Small Town Voices and invites listeners to offer their thoughts and feedback.

Be intentional about looking for ways to love your neighbor.

Hi, I am JD Ross. I'm a host and the producer of Carolina Small Town Voices. We started off this season as a pilot. So I'm going to give you a quick update on what we're going to do. And first, first of all, I'll tell you what we had in mind. When we started this off, we had certain intentions. We had these intentions of highlighting a small town, but little did I know that our intentions were going to be blown out of the water by what happened when the guests started sharing their stories. We did not handpick our guests. We kind of put a Facebook post out there and asked people who wanted to sign up. Now there were a couple that I knew in advance. I didn't know that they were going to sign up to do this. They were recommended by somebody else. So, point being, the guests were not hand-picked. And when we started out this series, we said, you know what we're going to do is highlight a small town. Little did we know how to shift on us. Because here's what started happening. Every single guest, without knowing it, were saying the same thing, just in a different voice. And here's what they were saying. Love your neighbor. So if you go back to the very beginning and listen in, because me as a producer and the editing, I listen to these things over and over and over again. And it's a great gift to me to be able to hear the stories. As you listen to the series, you will notice that that statement keeps coming out. Love your neighbor. The simplicity of it, but yet the importance of it adjusted the way we were doing this podcast and adjusted the methods because it is just simply a message that is directly based on the truth. And here's the thing it applies not to small towns, it applies to any town, it applies to any city, it applies to any country, it applies to any person. The power in that message is so simple and so direct it can't be missed. Every single guest without knowing it was sharing that central message again. Take care of your neighbor. In other words, love your neighbor. So what is next? Will there be another season? We don't know. We really don't know at this point. We're going to take some time, step back, figure out what to do, if anything, and just sort out what do we do next with this. These podcasts are designed to help our listeners. If you notice, there was very little pitching of what someone was selling. It was pitching a concept that we didn't see coming.
