Let's be real.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Our community, the LGBTQ. We've got we've got a serious problem with settling down. That we have. And we're just gonna call out all the shit. Yeah. All the toxic behaviours. Yeah. That we just ignore, really.
SPEAKER_01Fuck yeah.
SPEAKER_00Just to probably stay in a relationship.
SPEAKER_01True. I feel I feel like with the lesbians, it's either like extreme commitment and settling or extreme denial. Facts.
SPEAKER_00I've got a few. I've got many that somewhat are controversial, but why the fuck not?
SPEAKER_01But all right, so why don't you start with your red flags?
SPEAKER_00I think going into a same-sex relationship, for example, people have this scare about them that they don't want to come out of the closet, so to speak. So if you're with that person and I can understand many factors if it's your first relationship or whatever, but if someone wants to keep you under wraps, I feel that's a red flag.
SPEAKER_01True. I get that. So you're going into like the realm of when you're out, you can't really be sick.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I want someone to absolutely like want to fuck me in the street. Like I fuck the shit out of me, grab my hand, have a little bit of a rub if you fancy it. I want I want you to be all over me. And I think if you deserve that, everyone deserves love. And just I want you to eye fuck me in the street. I want you to be proud that you're with me. Like, why would you want to keep me under wraps?
SPEAKER_01That's a fair fucking point, to be fair, because we're quite PDA.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we are. Like, I'm very touchy and saying before episodes, yeah. From before episodes, like physical touch is my main love language. So I think it's because I want that back as well.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00In moderation, I'd say. In and you're out and you're up and you're down. Like it I can't deal with wishy-washy behaviour.
SPEAKER_01And exactly that. And I don't know where it stemmed from. Is it like fucking hormonal or past trauma from relationships or it it just bugs the fucking shit out of me?
SPEAKER_00But I think it's very common as well. I've I don't I don't really understand where I think it leaves you in a bad place of what what does that person want from you and what that person needs.
SPEAKER_01It almost goes into like friend vibes. Like one day you want to phone the shit out of me, but then the other day we're like acquaintances. Like I d I don't like and we're very good. Like we don't have that problem. Not at all. But I have we're really good, aren't we, though?
SPEAKER_00We are just fucking great. We we are. People see us in the street, guys, and they're like, Oh, went thank you. It's Lauren and Lauren, that's easy, is it? Fuck off.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, or like we've been in like public settings and they're like, You two are great, can we just say? And we're like, Great. It's really fun. Yeah, like thanks for that.
SPEAKER_00And it's nice to I think it's nicer when it's people that you don't really know, when people actually can see a relationship just brimming, and people recognise that, and you go, Yeah, like fuck yeah, I'm in love. Like, yeah, I'm gonna have that girl on my arm. Okay, another one I'm gonna touch on as well, where you do have a lot of touching. The physical touch is transphobia or like they're really negative, or they make jokes about our community.
SPEAKER_01Okay, and this could technically lead on to like politics and shit, like if they're so arrogant.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and like okay, you might be comfortable in your skin and you are very happy with your partner, for example. But if you then go to transphobia and you're going at by pans or trans people, who are actually in your community? Can we add? Like, we are in that is that they are our people. If you are going down that route of saying, Oh, whatever, like, or or you're saying you're saying really fucking nasty shit, yeah. I won't be able to stand up for that. And we have this. If we're in a setting and you may have gone off your lid, and I don't really because it's fuck me, it happens, don't get me wrong. And in that moment, I think, oh, but I will back you to the brim. But then when we get home, I will tell you if you've been an arsehole.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but to I think we've had this many times though.
SPEAKER_00You've called me out when I've been an arsehole, and I will say at the same time for you, but when that we kind of do it in the setting as well, to be fair.
SPEAKER_01Like, I will tap you on the leg and I think you get the hint like Stop now, like you're going a bit too far.
SPEAKER_00But I think you need to have that person with you to keep you grounded.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So when it goes to being transphobia, like I don't want to hear negative energy about people that have been and I've always said this, that have overcome a massive milestone and been brave and have put themselves out there to be comfortable and you're slagging them off, get in the fucking bin.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I get it. Like my one is my next reg flag, sorry, is I think it's hyper paced like feelings and emotions. I think not too fast, too fast, and don't get me wrong, right? We've lesbian good at that. Yeah, we've said this in like quite a few episodes now that the lesbian time frame is just fucking astronomical, right? It's like dog years, and we have said that. It really is, but then I think there's it I think there's sometimes too much, and then it goes on to borderline clingy, and I'm talking excessively clingy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, like I want to be able to go to the toilet w without you fucking being with me. Like you're standing at the fucking door, like no, that's yeah, let's let's definitely not fucking be on my ass 24-7, let me breathe, because then when I'm with you, I'll enjoy that time with you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, especially in early stages, yeah, and I think we had not something similar, but it was almost like we were trying to work out each other's love language, weren't we?
SPEAKER_00Everyone has that stage where you're trying to figure out that person and what they like, and very early on, I think you have to either realise that you can tap into them and actually give them what they want, or just be honest.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think we had not a slight mishap, but it was almost like you were working out me, I was working out you. Yeah, and you're big on words, massive on words, fucking know that now, and I'm very, you know, actively learning. But I feel like you sort of at the start were quite like expecting me to say I love you, quite probably more than the impression.
SPEAKER_00Right, we need to dive into this, yeah. We're gonna dive into this, and I know and you're looking at me like you know what I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I I kinda I think I do.
SPEAKER_00So you're saying you're saying about all this kind of love you stuff, and and I get it 100%, but there was something very early on in our relationship where it slipped out from me, let's say I'm just gonna set the scene for you guys because I think you need to understand this, and I think we've all had this at some point during the relationship. So me and Lauren were seeing each other, we'd seen each other kind of, and we hadn't stopped talking, have we? No, and like the time came, quite literally, the deed, the deed happened.
SPEAKER_01It was very organic, like it wasn't false, it was like naturally, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And whilst in the midst of the deed, I said I told her that I loved her, and she what did you say? I went nothing. What are you talking about? Nothing, nothing, and fuck me. I thought, oh my god, I've gone balls deep here. She I've said this way too early, and I denied it for a very long time, didn't I? Yeah, but I definitely said it, 100% said it.
SPEAKER_01So did you mean it?
SPEAKER_00Of course I did. Okay, because yeah, of course I did.
SPEAKER_01This is where it it finally came up. I swear it was about four months in honestly, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I was like, oh fuck it. Fucked it up now.
SPEAKER_01You went. So I just want to say that that time I did say it, I did mean it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I did actually mean it.
SPEAKER_01But this is the thing, right? Again, lesbians accelerate everything at like hyper speed. And I actually did mean for you to repeat it because I actually wanted to say it back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so we lost communication like quite early on with that, because I was like, Oh fuck, I'll fuck this right up. There's no way she's gonna say it back to me. Like, we're literally having sex, and and I've said it and I've dropped the L bomb, and then she's like, What did you say? And I was like, No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, don't know what it was all about. No, no, no, say it again, no, no, no. I did not say anything.
SPEAKER_01And that's why I was pressing because I was actually like, even though it was so fast, you you know when it's the one, you know. Yeah, of course. And then what I quite quickly gained after that, like we did say I love you quite a lot. We did, probably we still do.
SPEAKER_00I still tell you all the time that I love you a lot.
SPEAKER_01No, no, we we still do now, like, don't get me wrong, it's not like once a month, yeah. But I think what happened is because of the transition from a straight relationship. Yeah, something to point out, and I can't speak for every straight relationship, but I can guarantee you I don't think I said I love you more than like ten times in that year. That to me, that's crazy. It's almost like there's a comfortability, and you just kind of that's the person I'm with, and that's it sort of thing. Exactly. And I think that was hard navigating when we first started seeing each other.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because yours was words of affirmation and reassurance and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_00But what did you say before? You made a really good like point really early in our relationship. You was like, I'm unlearning behaviours. Oh, 100%. You're unlearning like bad traits, probably of your last relationship, and you're learning that maybe this person you're with now isn't an absolute tit. Like you can feel again almost. You I think you become a bit numb when you're in a relationship that becomes very platonic.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, 100%. And I think it was almost like a self-sabotage thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you said this so much, haven't you?
SPEAKER_01Because it was almost like it's too good to be true. And this was one of the points I actually wanted to bring up on this podcast. Like, what when do you kind of when does it click that this is good to be true? Like this is great. Happening, like go in, like stop reserving yourself. Yeah, and I think I was doing that for the longest time because it just it's almost like it was so natural to us, but it wasn't natural in that realm.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_01So that was quite hard, I'd say, but I wouldn't say I'm not trying to say you're clingy at all, but it was just a better be.
SPEAKER_00I'll be off, lads. See you later.
SPEAKER_01It was just more than I'd expected, and I think it was just at first I was like, oh my god, is this normal? Yeah, of course. Yeah, but then I do resonate with people that are probably in a situation where, like you said, can't go to the toilet without you know being questioned or wherever they're going. Like, I think it's really healthy in a relationship, any relationship to be able to have that separate time. Yeah. And if you don't have that, I think that's fucking toxic. I think it's it's crumbling.
SPEAKER_00I think it will because I another thing while we're on this topic, I think it's very difficult. And I know there's many, many people out there that work in the same industry as your partner. Like, you have not got what have we got to talk about? Like, you you are at work with that person, you come home, you have your normal routine of obviously having some dinner together, kind of getting ready for bed, all that sort of stuff. For us, it's doing the pod. Like, if we didn't have separate work schedules or separate life in that sense, I I rate anyone that can keep a relationship alive if you work with them, because I'd think I'd get pissed off very easily.
SPEAKER_01I think it's like we talk about lesbians and being like hyper accelerated, yeah. That's like adding more fucking logs to the fire.
SPEAKER_00And you hear so much about working relationships, like how and if they break down and yeah, how awkward is that? But I wanted to kind of switch it up now and go into like non-negotiables, yeah. Because these are complete deal breakers for me, yeah, yeah, and and some of them fucking hit them. So we've had some people message in, guys, and thank you so much, you know, for your messages, and we do appreciate it. Different walks of life as well, can I add? Like some people have even put like their age, and it's like, wow, okay, like amazing. Oh, this is cute, yeah. And some of them are were really eye-opening, and I thought I never thought of that that way, yeah, or didn't think of it that way. And say, from all the episodes before, guys, we just want to say thank you again because it's been a modin, absolute bunch of queers, we love you. But one thing is for me, which is a deal breaker, is the element of feeling safe and having respect. Okay, if I don't feel respected, and like when I'm with you, I I have always said this like you're my safe place.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And if I didn't feel like that with my significant other, that would be a deal breaker for me. If I felt on edge all the time, if I felt like I couldn't be open and honest with how I felt or my opinions about certain things.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I was just about to ask you, is that like you couldn't be yourself around that person because you were you were just worried about the scrutiny you'd get.
SPEAKER_00You constantly have a fucking row, wouldn't you? And and that's not healthy either.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00But you want to be able to express yourself and express your feelings, have a comfortable kind of conversation, like an open discussion.
SPEAKER_01But if you want to say something fucking weird, it should be like, okay.
SPEAKER_00The only person I can tell this to is my partner. Is you, yeah, exactly that. So because I always think that's a that's a really good thing to build a foundation on. And if that person is your best friend as well as your partner, then you're fucking winning in life. So that is maybe kind of top dog for me. Top dog.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. I think my top non-negotiable is you have to be well-driven.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you've got to be gold-driven.
SPEAKER_01And you've got to have I always use this phrase, but like all your ducks in order. Like, I'm talking financials. Yeah. Like, I do not want to be with someone that's like irresponsible.
SPEAKER_00And you're fucking mothering them.
SPEAKER_01Like, let's be honest. Yes, straight relationships are basically that. So I think there was a lot of it sounds really horrible, but I feel like a lot of people can resonate with this. Yeah, I think there's many. When you come out of a relationship, it's almost like your expectations shoot up, especially if that relationship was like platonic and there was so much that you were missing, and you've seen other people, you know, get all these great aspects out of a relationship. The next one you go into, it's like that person's got to be on that pedestal. And it sounds really horrible for that person coming in.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, on the rear end of it, quite literally. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But I do think it's important. Like, I I don't want to be with someone that can't manage their finances and you know you're doing well for yourself, and then that person's scraping the barrel or like hiding things from you. And yeah. Yeah, it's just not a safe place. And it's not. Even if you don't have any goals, like what the fuck are you doing? Yeah, what are your aspirations? Like even if it's something small, like I want to do knitting or something, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I want to come home and you do me a fucking blanket so I can continue to DOS all day long.
SPEAKER_01But it's actively showing that you want to do something to better yourself or together.
SPEAKER_00I think it's productivity, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like that's really big for me, and I I don't know if I've said this before. I think I have said this before, but I I think it's specifically coming from a straight relationship.
SPEAKER_00This is where I think this podcast is so good because you're gonna sex, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_01I wanted I love I love the idea of you, and I literally went balls deep and fell in love with you very fucking quickly. Squishy, guys.
SPEAKER_00Make sure I'm so glad this is on like mic because fuck you.
SPEAKER_01Um but I said to you that I it's almost like I expected a more dominant role. I think I have told you this before.
SPEAKER_00LGBTQ fucking relationships, there's always that one person that is always a bit mask.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like don't get me there's mask, and then I'm talking about like dominating, dominating. So it's almost like you walk in that they're essentially what a man's supposed to be, yeah. Right? That whole fucking man spiel, but they have everything in order, like you can just come home and it's like look, babe, done that. It's sorted, sorted, yeah, you know. I don't have to like be on edge thinking about things, and it's yeah, I I just love that feeling.
SPEAKER_00But I think with with with relationships like this, I feel like you are a team, yeah. There is more of the team element, like I'm not gonna I feel like we're gonna bust out into high school musical in a minute. What a fucking movie. That was my childhood. But I feel like yeah, we are elements of a team. Like I've got your back, you've got mine. If you know you say hell hi, like I'm gonna jump with you. Like they're literally ride or dies, and that's how I feel like we are generally.
SPEAKER_01Generally communication comes in, like early on, like, and I think lesbians are really good at that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we're good at a lot of things, let's be honest. Like, we are flying quite literal many flags. Yeah, another one that's I think this is more specific to myself, that's my personal preference. But again, okay, if you say like busty blonde, you know No, it's definitely like blondes are not my type, like I definitely know what I want in a woman, and yeah, unfortunately, if you're blonde, sorry. But sorry, sorry about that. I can appreciate good beauty, I can always say that, but one of them is just overall alignment. Okay, so I need I think this kind of direct blend into what we've just spoken about. If you are I want you to be comfortable, so be comfortable in your own skin and actually be able to align with me in the sense of we're gonna do stuff together, and our views are kind of not almost identical because that's not I I'm open for a conversation, but yeah, I feel like alignment's very in a sense of like family alignment.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, okay, like morals, yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Like morals, like I feel like they need to be aligned because again, I can't be holding you up when you can't take accountability for something, or that that's very hard for me to manage.
SPEAKER_01I'm gonna ask you a question.
SPEAKER_00Fuck me, go on.
SPEAKER_01Fuck me.
SPEAKER_00You've literally looked me dead eye, so I'm I'm waiting for it. Go on.
SPEAKER_01So you know you say about the alignment and like family and morals and values and stuff like that. So when you got into this relationship, yeah, you were I'm not calling you old, but you were approaching that 30 milestone. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Did you think it was gonna be harder to meet someone that was Listen, my say my last relationship was of length, so when I think about dating and stuff again, I was just like it's not I could I could take it or leave it. I was gonna be honest. So then that's why we said the best things in life are free and they come unexpectedly, so that's why I'm very lucky. But I didn't know what to expect from it. I'm gonna be honest, and I'm very much I you'll get to know me through this. I'm so chilled I'm laying down sometimes, like physically laying down. A bit too much, obviously, to Lauren's disgust, but you know, this is the dynamic of our household, and she loves it to her disgust. Love it, I'm very chilled, and I always like to look at all different ways of of how a situation can go.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you you are literally of glass half full. Yes. And I'm glass half empty.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you are, but that's a good balance, it is, and we do balance each other out, and I do like to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Sometimes when they don't deserve it, I give m too many too many chances to people in my life, but that is just how I'm built, and I can't change it, I'm afraid. But sometimes it's negative, sometimes it's positive. But going into the relationship with you, everything just seemed to just blossom and be a breeze. Yeah, I didn't feel like I was like over-exerting. I didn't feel like I was having to put too much putting the wrong word to say putting too much involved, because it was just so free free-flowing.
SPEAKER_01But I think you mentioned to me uh this, and I think some people might could take it possibly as quite I don't know what the word is, but like arrogant, maybe.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, go on.
SPEAKER_01Where I think you explained to me that uh you didn't really look into anything Oh god, how did you explain this to me? You didn't really look into anything with that much uh thought because it was so natural. Yeah. But then on the flip side of that, I I understand I'm you know me, I didn't didn't phase me at all. But some people might go, Well, why aren't you putting any thought into it?
SPEAKER_00Don't get me wrong. Like when it was so easy in the beginning, I was like, this is lovely. But then there was a point in because we were very exclusive very quickly. Like, I wasn't talking to anyone.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I was like, I was becoming more of the gifting. There was a s a time where I was quite gifting towards you, which normally isn't my love language. But I was like, I'm gonna buy her some shoes because I'm very big on shoes and trainers and stuff like that. So I was like, let me treat her.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Flowers. I still bring you flowers occasionally, even though they die, we don't look after them very well, but they just sit there and they look pretty in the kitchen, so that's fine. For a day, yeah, literally, they look great, but I think again, you're learning about what that person likes. So I that was part of it, and it's I say I I I give 110% into our relationship now.
SPEAKER_01Oh no, well I think we both do, yeah. We both bring so many different elements to it. I just think for the reason why I asked you that is because there's probably so many people that maybe in my situation, maybe in your situation, like for you being in a long-term relationship in the community already, yeah, then thinking, right, I've got to start again. From my perspective, it was straight and take it or leave it, but ends up finding a woman, which is already you know a challenge in itself, of course. Because some people get to a point in age where they just think like it's over with, like I can't do it, and that's why I asked you when you were approaching 30, not saying you're old, even though society makes us feel fucking fucking hell, mate.
SPEAKER_00I feel like I should be ready to to pop my clogs, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But like, what if you were like f 38 and we're in my situation?
SPEAKER_00Like, I just want to say that it it can work, like, don't ever think you're like you are living proof that it can, and even though you might be in a relationship now with with a guy, and you know definitely that's not for you because we've seen this in older generations, the people that we know they've come out such later in life because unfortunately, relationships have probably been a negative part of life, but they've also given you life lessons, yeah, and they've given you things of what you know that you want in a relationship, obviously at the expense of an unfortunate breakdown or a breakup, but you've then set the tone for what you actually want, yeah. So I think it's I think it's just basically experience prevails in that aspect, and then you go into this, probably in that them later stages of your life, and think this is the person, this is Endgame. Yeah, and I've I've found Endgame with you 110%.
SPEAKER_01Like Fed Swift and fucking Edgerian's.
SPEAKER_00We're not going anywhere.
SPEAKER_01No, it's done.
SPEAKER_00Nice reference there, by the way. I've just noticed.
SPEAKER_01Um there was a meme I saw, and it was a woman that I think she'd been in an 11-year relationship with a bloke, and it she's obviously found a woman now. Fucking props to you. Yeah, fair play. Like the best fucking decision you could ever make. But how's a sex life? She had put in her story, someone had commented saying, Well, why has it taken you so long and like whatever? And she goes, because I spent the last 11 years surviving to then know what I need to do. She took all of that, which is kind of in my situation, you take all of that into this new relationship, and it's like you're built like a fucking brick wall now, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I and I do find that sometimes like with yourself, sometimes you have a very hard exterior. Oh fuck, yeah. Yeah, you do, you do, like that's fact, and then I get that because it's a coping mechanism from before. That and I've I think not many people may get that. Yeah, you might go into a relationship and go, fucking hell, like I'm not dealing with this.
SPEAKER_01That's too much effort, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But if you generally can see a future with that person, then I I fully like say just fucking stick it out, like don't be an arsehole, just understand everyone's built differently, people have had different experiences, like don't feel like your self-entitlement is more than what your partner's is, yeah, no a hundred percent, and I think we've unraveled a lot to be fair, and this opens up another topic of conversation for people, yes, because we're we can be going, we're obviously just scratching surface here, right? So people can can go down the the thing of like teeth, physical stuff that is kind of like I think we should do one of them like physical deal breakers. So, in the meantime, guys, feel free to to drop what you think is either a deal breaker or something that you personal preference. Red flags, red flags, absolutely swing it my way because say I love it. So when I come home and you're like, oh, we've had this thing today, and I'm like, Yeah, like we have a full debrief over a cup of tea, mate.
SPEAKER_01Like to be fair, it's it's something like the one we got today, it was just it was something we didn't even consider. No, so it was like, oh, do you know what? That's fucking so interesting. And this is the reason why we do what we do, because we're also wrapped up in this fucking bubble, like we are great, yeah. I think you could write a book about us, to be fair. Yeah, definitely. Like we we have landed very well on our feet, but sometimes we are naive to other people's struggles because we don't we don't have them.
