Here at Black Hat day one. What are you looking forward to doing here, Paul?

Man, we're jumping right in. No pleasantries, no good morning call. All of that. We're just we're getting right into the mix. It's already past that. It is past it. It is. Well, no, you're right, man. Look, I'm I'm super excited. This is the the first day at Black Hat. Like, this is the homage every year for cybersecurity professionals, one of them. And uh I think it's kind of poetic that we're launching our very first podcast, right? With the very first episode being recorded here. So what are you thinking?

Like, you're here with me. Well, well, the cool part about being at New York, New York, um, everyone identifies anyone that isn't a black hat fan. I get on the elevator and some guy goes, Good morning. Are you gonna go to the free breakfast? That's right. And I said uh myself, who are you and how do you know me?

But looked at the badges. There it is. Well, you know, so like that's interesting, right? Because like there's definitely community here, right? Like when you're thinking about IT professionals, cybersecurity professionals, like you come to a conference like this and everyone is here for the same reason. Like everyone fundamentally here is some form of a defender, and like it's really cool to be able to spend time talking with those folks.

I think the notion of the community aspect is pretty interesting, right? That's what I'm finding out, is I don't have to know you to feel welcomed, right? That's the one difference I'd say about this cyber security community is even though it's getting super popular, one of the buzz industries, um, everyone is so gracious and open and willing to have a conversation on a human level. No one's out here to best anybody. They can go do that on their own time, they don't need to prove themselves every day. So it's pretty cool to have a different community be around.

Well, dude, you know what's crazy? Like, probably 10 years ago, maybe a little longer, like there was a fundamental shift in the concept of like sharing cybersecurity intelligence. Oh kind of stuff. Dude, back in the day, no one shared anything. Like, if there was a breach, if there was an issue, everyone was tight-lipped, like it was a faux pas to discuss anything where some form of control failed. But that's flipped on its head now. Like, this is truly about sharing. What are you doing? What tools you use, what's your tech stack? Like bringing it back to this, like, this core function of like, how's your cyber program, how's it operate? And then really like reviewing that with your peers. And it's been a powerful, powerful shift, I think, in the industry.

Well, the one of the better things though, I think, is having the opportunity to bounce ideas off of people that you would never think to use, a certain tool or a particular process, or how to layer in controls of defense, because that's what I noticed too is not everyone here has a $300 million budget like JP Morgan, their team. So it's it's interesting to think about the new and creative ways of challenging these new problems.

Yeah. All right, man. So we're having a blast here. We're launching our podcast. Like, what is the podcast game to you?

Honestly, I think it's an open or an opportunity to have open conversation that really focuses on how people are viewing this from the technical aspect of operators to the aspect of how do we fund this, how do we manage this, how do we make it a true business model for not just people that have the means, but for them people that don't, right? So whether it's small, medium-sized businesses, whether it's small, medium-sized enterprises, there's just a ton of people that are passionate about cyber, they just don't know how to get ahead of it or how to manage it. And those are the things I really, really want to explore with all these different perspectives is how are people tackling management of their cyber program for their particular business?

Yeah, a hundred percent. Like that's for me, like it was so natural to name the thing cyber perspective. Because it really is about that. It's about it wasn't natural.

I think that was like a 45-minute conversation on the way down to Sullivan County, which naturally occurred.

But like it's one of those things where, like, you know, you're ideating and like we started talking about perspective, and like it just like it it became the immediate front runner. And I think it it perfectly embodies what we're really trying to accomplish. Like, how do we get these perspectives together? How do we talk to different people across industries and even across roles, right? You don't have to be a cyber professional, you just have to understand technology, data, and really what's at stake.

Yeah, and I think that's the bigger thing too, is starting to learn how people that aren't the experts build a team and how do they actually interact with the team and where is their skill set? How do they support, right? Because it's a fact that you can't do cybersecurity on your own. Yeah. You need people that are going to be focused on the technical operations, then you actually have to have people that can translate this and communicate it to the business. If we don't have the business backing cyber, you're not gonna be successful.

100% agree, man. Well, I'm excited to launch our first episode. This has been a great, I mean, we're in pre-production right now, starting to line up some of our very first interviews. I can't wait to see who we meet, and I can't wait to see what kind of perspectives we get.

Yeah, that's gonna be the interesting part, I think, is to see what kind of traction we get and really trying to stick to that model of we're just here to get your perspective. This is not sales, this is not anything that has to do with Talus. This is just trying to build a community in which we can all look towards each other and support each other.
