Welcome to Cocky and Humble Podcast with Sean Williams, which is me. My first guest, my first guest ever is gonna be Quincy Powers. Thank you so much for coming to hang out with me. I am so excited. I've thought about this and wanted to do this for five years now. And you, I met you in taking my classes. You reminded me so much of me because you were always flying in late and being like, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry. And then I was like, I gotta get that girl in my podcast.
SPEAKER_02Come in, whirling my towel, bring the energy, um, you know.
SPEAKER_01Tie your shoes.
SPEAKER_02I have way too much going on to be on time. I just can't do it. Way too much going on. And you know, I actually just saw something that most of the most successful people in life are the ones that are late. So I'll take it.
SPEAKER_01I always tell my clients, you know, I always tell my clients, I always say, never be the first to arrive. Like, you're the big deal. Your friends, your family should be like, oh my god, when are they coming?
SPEAKER_02I love being the moment, the main character. I don't you don't have to convince me, huh?
SPEAKER_01It stresses me out. If I get there first, I'm like, where's my what do I do?
SPEAKER_02I sit there and I'm like, okay, so I have five minutes. Like, and then you look around and you see everyone on their phones, heads in their phones, like, okay, we all look like a bunch of idiots here. Yeah. So I'm just gonna like use every minute of my day that I can. And sometimes it means I'm gonna be late.
SPEAKER_01Okay, but on the random time that you have been on time, and so you ever sit there and you're like, so this is what they feel when they're waiting for when they're waiting for me. Because I'm waiting for them. I'm so irritated.
SPEAKER_02Everyone feels like walk in, hit start on the treadmill, start walking. I walk in, everyone's like five minutes to their workout at that point. But I mean we got stuff to do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay, so I wanted to start off every one of my episodes with something that you are cocky about and something that you are humble about. Now, with this, I know that cocky and humble are very powerful words, but I want to use it more in a way of like something that you are confident about in your life, and then something that you are humble by or thankful for, and you can either go first or I can go first. You choose.
SPEAKER_02I'm happy to go.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02Something that I am cocky about. I first of all, I think that confidence is the highest form of self-respect that you can have for yourself. That's that's my mojo. But I would say one thing I'm cocky about is we and we kind of already started talking about this, but when I walk in a room, I know people are looking at me and it like doesn't scare me. And I always feel like the coolest person in the room, even if I'm not. Um I know I'm not, but like you know what gives me like the double boost is when I'm with my puppy. Because my puppy is so beautiful, and so when I walk in a room with him, I'm like, okay, everyone's really staring at us.
SPEAKER_03He's so handsome. He's so Deborah.
SPEAKER_02That's been a compliment that I've always got is that like no matter what, I can walk into a room and work it. And I'm not afraid to walk up to people that I don't know. I just like I'm a people person and I love like being me and like authentically me.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and a part of that is just like having not a single care what's around me.
SPEAKER_01I can just kind of But there's a way also to make that humble because I feel like if you walk into a room and you don't feel that you're worthy of being looked at, why should anybody else look at you? Even though it's like I just feel like you you've put out what you want in return. And I just a lot of people think these things and are too scared to say it out loud, which like a big part of my podcast. I have the kind of personality why I do well in fitness, is I've always been that personality that just doesn't give a fuck. I'm unapologetically me. And if you love me, you love me. And if you hate me, you hate me. No one in the world has a hundred percent approval rating. Please do. So as long as you have at least like a 75% approval rating, you are crushing that's even 100% rotten tomatoes. Yeah. Okay, now you're humble.
SPEAKER_02My humble is I will say I'm somebody that bites off way more than I can chew, and I get it done. And I don't have to tell people about it. Like I just do it. And I do take pride in that and I give myself like credit for that. That like I am a go-getter and I have no shame in that, but I don't have to make it my brand either. Like it just like people see that and I don't have to say it. And I just like, yeah, I'm like always setting goals for myself, taking on like projects that like maybe I'm not qualified for, but I figure it out. I'm a very yes person, and it's gotten me halfway through my 20s, and I'm I'm doing it. So tell me you're cocky and you're humble.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so my cocky is in this one because I'm gonna do one every episode.
SPEAKER_02So I can't I have to like it's like cocky and humble of the week.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean, I yeah, I might run out of humble things. I'm gonna get cocky ones, just fly out. I am cocky about my shoe game. So I'm a big uh sneakerhead. I love shoes. I I've loved shoes ever since I was a kid when I was playing sports and got into track. And um, so I I recently sold like 25 pairs because I got up to 185 pairs of shoes. So I was like, okay, now we're gonna really was like taking over my room, my closet. So um I I'm but I I want to get down to 100. I think 100 is a good number of shoes to have.
SPEAKER_02So um you're running circles around.
SPEAKER_01It's an only child syndrome, yeah. Um, but I just think I have really good shoe game.
SPEAKER_02And if someone's such an important thing, sorry to interrupt, but like I think that like how someone dresses themselves is important, but like I'm always looking at people's shoes. Oh, it could make or break an outfit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm like, I look at your eyes and then their hair, and then I go all the way down to the shoes. And I'm like right away.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, Oh, okay. Literally noted. I I know who you are.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, exactly. The whole outfit should revolve around the shoes. Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I've been educating my brother on this. I'm like, dude, we gotta up the shoe wheel.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I will or you're cooked. Yeah, what I'm humbled by is life. I think that the life that I've lived so far, you know, I think that every time you think that life you have like, oh, I I I'm crushing it, I'm doing it. Life will throw you something, you know, whether it's, you know, another task or it's something a failure, or it's, you know, a loss of a friendship and like, you know, somebody disappointed you, or um, there's just always something that's it's like you every time you think you're like, I got this, life will be like, Do you?
SPEAKER_02I'll show you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I just think a big reason why I wanted to start my podcast is because being in fitness, I I can help people a lot physically and I help them like get stronger and faster and feel more confident.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_01But it's so much with physical and the mind goes so much together. And then I started realizing as I got into fitness over like years, I was like, especially during the pandemic, I was like, wow, like I have a big impact on people mentally as well. As in, I'm building their confidence. People who have bad days are now like, oh my god, I'm gonna go take Sean's class because he's gonna make my day better and he's gonna make me smile. Like I was crying in my car two hours ago, and I take Sean's class and I leave there, and like I'm like, oh my gosh, she said the most ridiculous thing. He's like, that was the best part of my day.
SPEAKER_02So you can really shut off, and you like you have to shut off. Like, you just you go in there, you laugh your ass off. Yeah, and I mean, I certainly do. No, I'm laughing with you guys, and you get your ass kicked.
SPEAKER_01Sometimes at you, but I got into like, yeah, and I was like, I can make people laugh and and teach people things and and give so much like self-worth and self-love, like the uh bigger population and more exposure. And I was doing it so much just by teaching classes in the little, you know, the city that I was in. I was in LA and now Chicago, and I wanted to just take that and make it make it bigger. So this that was a big push of why I wanted to start my podcast.
SPEAKER_02So losing your gift.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my cocky is my shoe game and my humble is life is fucking hard, and we're all trying to figure it out. Every day we wake up and we're like, okay, we gotta make today a day. We gotta, you know, how can we be happy today? I think humans in general like are just struggle with happiness. I mean, we have everything in the world, we have everything technology you could ever have. And people wake up, you know, people be like, Oh yeah, I'm just bored of my home. Bored.
SPEAKER_02My mom's famous, famous line since I was little is what's next. Because we would do something and it was what's next. And when when she came out, I was like, What's next? What's next? Well, like honestly, it it really does apply. Like we're constantly like looking for more and more and more. What like when I sometimes dial in, like I'm so lucky to have all of this, it it really does humble you.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think life is constant. Every time I'm like, oh yeah, I'm crushing this, I'm crushing that, it's boom. I'm like, I'm not crushing it.
SPEAKER_02I mean, as we know, I got I got humbled um with my little foot injury. I was in the best shape of my life. And that's that's like very relatable to what you just said. Like I was running at the pace I was running competitively in college as of a month ago. I jump off a boat, break my foot, have surgery, and that's it. Like and it happens, and it's like, okay, what are you gonna do about it? Sit around, mope around, be miserable and sorry for yourself, or like use that time to become the best version of yourself and that edited.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I remember like talking to you on a phone, and you were like, at the time, you know, like you know, you'd be like, Sean, I've been crying, like, I can't believe this. I'm so like, as you should. I think so many people want to hold back tears. I'm like, tears are literally free therapy. Yes, like let's give yourself your moment.
SPEAKER_02Yes, give yourself your moment, but don't drag it on, please.
SPEAKER_01No one wants you're like, okay, have the moment. Yeah, but it's like you have to feel things, but no one wants to listen to that.
SPEAKER_02Like, have like give yourself your time for sure. Like people that have these like fronts up that are like, oh, I don't cry. I don't like I'm like like on titanium. Okay, well, I'm not, but I'm gonna give myself my moment here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, and then I'll dial it in and be better than the rest of y'all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, but until then, yeah, but it's like you were like maybe for you, like you were saying, you're like at the top of your game, like you just said a high rocks, which is so fun. Like a week before. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Literally a week before.
SPEAKER_01And now broken ankle. Like that's like that's that's when I say the humble, like life. Every time you think you can be crushing it, life will throw you its.
SPEAKER_02Oh, you'll get brought to ground zero, sweetheart.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's not, it's not okay. So the whole idea behind this episode was I think which is very relatable. So, my podcast, I want to have of just things that people relate to. I think we all go through stuff. We all well, I know we all do, and I want to talk about fun stuff. I want to talk about hard stuff. I want to talk about things that a lot of people feel and relate to, but sometimes they're scared to talk about it. And and sometimes we'll be laughing and crying and laughing, sometimes we'll be crying, sometimes we'll be judging. I do tell my clients all the time I am probably one of the most judgmental people in the world and I don't care and I own it. Um, I'm very wholesome, but I'm also vain, shallow, judgmental, and that's just who I am. My parents love me so much. They only had one child, and and they were like, He's perfect, no more, no must. So going back with like friendships, I've done a lot better job at like coming to Chicago. I knew nobody. I had no family here. I had no friends. I had I knew nobody. I just literally came here on a whim. I was like, I just want to try. If I don't leave the West Coast now, I'm never leaving the West Coast. So I was like, I'm gonna go to Chicago. He's in Chicago, New York, and I was like, I had the itch.
SPEAKER_02So glad you didn't go to New York.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I know. I mean, I it's like it's a great city. I just for me, I I love space. I'm like an outdoor sports guy. I'm like playing beach volleyball, golf, like tennis. Like, I just you can't do that in New York. It's so hard. And I think I would have I love visiting it, but I just don't think that I would have done well that way. But so I came here not knowing anybody, so it's like, you know, I'm meeting people and it it was really hard, but I'm proud of myself for like the first six months I spent all like almost too much time alone. It was like a lot because I but I wasn't gonna just be like, oh, I'd rather just have anybody. I was like, I know I want to find those friends where like they just feel easy right off the get-go. And I'm sure you've had those friends where it's like, oh my god, I feel like I've known you forever. Right away, you're asking me to hang out, I'm asking you to hang out. It's not like well, hey, you want to hang out? They say no, I want to hang out. Oh, I'm busy. Hey, you want to hang out, I'm busy. It's like, I'm like my whole rule is if you've asked somebody new in your life to like hang out for three times and they still you're you're done. Like, I'm just like you're at that point you can reach out to me, and most likely they don't because they're they just anyone who wants a friend, like they they connect to them, they're gonna just reach out and make it happen.
SPEAKER_02100%. I love a girl too, or I get just a friend that you can completely just coexist with. Like you don't have to have an agenda. I am up to here with the agendas. Like, I just wanna like free flow be. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like, let's just hang out. Like, we don't need to do like 10 things and like spend a grand in a day because bitch, I can. Yeah, but but like let's just hang out. Yeah, like and we don't have to like we don't even have to say anything. Like, you know, it's like the people you can ride in the car with, like enjoy music together and just coexist. And like that is the best thing ever.
SPEAKER_01Like just treaty to be yourself and like not feel like you're walking on eggshells.
SPEAKER_02Authentically, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and like that's just I can tell if I say a few jokes and they're like, I'm like, oh, you're not you're not my person. Like, it's just like if you can't handle something like that or like things are easily triggered by you, like you cannot, you have to be, you have to be a confident person to be my friend. Because if not, I will I will upset you all the time. And I and I'm not an upsetable person. I just I'm fun and funny, and you're just insecure in any therapy. Uh so okay, wait, I want to know because obviously being a guy, so like with girls, you because you always see from the outside, like for me, I see all these girls, groups of girls, and they're all that, but like I also feel like I'm not a girl, so I have no idea, but like, is it like a lot of competition with each other? Like, I feel like I've heard I've heard their stories where, like, oh my god, this girl and she was competing with me and she was trying to one-up me. Like, is that happening?
SPEAKER_02Remember ASAT with a friend, and like that says a lot about my friends. Also, I couldn't imagine that. Like, I want to be them, like, of course, but not like in a way that like it goes beyond the line, you know, like and I think that someone needs to look at themselves in the mirror if they're ever like in that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I talked I mean again. Respect I train a lot, I train a lot of females, and like I've heard a lot of females are like, Yes, I have these friends that are like always think they feel like they're competitive with me, or they're like, you know, they tell them I have a boyfriend and they can't be genuinely happy for them because they are sad because they don't have a boyfriend.
SPEAKER_02We need new friends.
SPEAKER_01No, no, yeah, yeah. Maybe that's me in this gate.
SPEAKER_02I cry for help for you. Like my friends are great, get new friends.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because I it should be that way.
SPEAKER_02We are all like so obsessed with each other, you know what I mean? Like each other up love to see each other win. And like if you don't have friends like that, like I would go searching. I would I would pack your bags and like do a Sean, go move to a new city where you know nobody and make me friends.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And find your community there. Yeah. Cause that ain't it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, it's like it's awful. I can't even imagine. I am such a good friend.
SPEAKER_02Are guys like that? I can't imagine. Well, so for me, like I just can't even imagine a friendship like that. Like where you're competing with someone, like that is so beyond my scope. Like, what? Like, you should love be so like wanting to see everyone around you succeed because you will succeed being around other successors.
SPEAKER_03You elevate each other, you elevate each other.
SPEAKER_02That's it. That's it. And if you're not around other people that are like more successful than you, I want to be, I don't want to be the most successful in the room, person in the room. I want to be surrounded by people they want to continue to grow.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what I mean? Like, so if I'm not like I'm in I'm not in the right room, like if if I'm not surrounded by people like that, that like are just like driven and like constantly like, how are we gonna be better together? And you know, like that's that's my thing.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And I always kind of rant about that. But like rant away. Yeah, that's but like I want to be going. Same thing with me. Like, I want those friendships that is like they're pushing me, they they will call me out, they will challenge me, they will, you know, like if we go do a workout, like they're you know, you know, I'm very fit and whatever. But like they have there's like one of my buddies, like he I can crush him and like chest press and like what push-ups. He is insane with like pull-ups. I'm like, bro, like and he makes me so mad, but like in a good mat, I'm like, it I'm his it's just it's his strengths, and we've all everybody has their strengths and weaknesses, but like he elevates me, he pushes me. We talk shit to each other when we're working out, you know what I mean. All of a sudden, randomly we're doing like we're like you know switching out weights, and now we're turning it into like hoop how many can who can get more reps? Like, I fucking love that. Like just browing out, one of my favorite terms is browing out. I was love that. Um, when it comes to my friendships, I mean my life has been a little bit different, and that will be uh other episodes later on in my podcast. But I I don't all my friends are girls, which I don't feel competitive with them. I just feel like supportive and I we just they're there for me, I'm there for them.
SPEAKER_02And oh the community.
SPEAKER_01I love it. Just girls are just like girls are just sweet and they're they're supportive and they're emotional and they want to be there for you and they want to like help. I know that's just like very much like it's like moms, like it's just a very much a nurturing thing for a lot of women. Yeah, um, and then all my other friends, I was you know, a jock my whole life, so my friends are all straight guys. Um people are always shocked that as a gay guy, I don't have any gay friends. They're always like, What do you mean you don't have like they're like you have to have a gay friend? And I'm like, Oh actually, no, I don't. Yeah, I'm like, actually, I don't. I don't I don't need to have anything I don't want. But I mean again, I'm not opposed to it, but when I had first come out, there was so many, there was the competition. There was like, well, is either competition or they want to sleep with me? And I don't have friends that that want to sleep with me. Like my I want easy friendships, I want fun drama. No, no, and then they say that, like, I want to be your friend, and then they're like five months down, they're like, Well, do you know? Like it can get a little buzz and then um and I'm like, yeah. So I did feel, but I think in general, like that community is is competitive. I think that like anytime you're dating this like this, like male and female dating, like you can't really compare, you're not gonna compare like your chest to your your boyfriend's. Like, he should not have a chest like you.
SPEAKER_02Like, I think this is like way bigger.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, pegs of steel. But like when you have same sex, you you can compare everything, like you know, like, oh, or my arm is good as yours, or my abs as good as yours, is my butt as good as yours. It's like it naturally is a very comparable, competitive environment, which you know you don't think about unless until you're in it. Yeah. Um, so I did find like friendships, like when I first came out, they're you know, friendships that were competitive that way, but not like in a healthy way. Like we weren't elevating each other. It was like, you know what I mean? Um, and then even relationships that I had that were like super, like just constantly competing and trying to be better and like comparing. And I just I'm genuinely, like, truly feel like comparison is the thief of joy. Like, if you constantly compare, compare, compare, compare. It's one thing to like see something and be like, hey, like I respect that, like that's something I want to work towards, but like the constant comparison is like will just drain you and just mentally kill you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I could never.
SPEAKER_01So when it comes to friendships, like I don't have any friends now that I like feel like we play a lot of sports together, so we like I like to compete against them.
SPEAKER_02I've caught myself in a lot because I'm not gonna lie.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you want to be debit to that you're blah blah.
SPEAKER_02Oh I want I want to know like I'm up there when it comes. Oh yeah, my friends know that. Like that for me, it's I wouldn't even see that as like being like competing, but like I do want to like be the best.
SPEAKER_01I mean I mean when it comes to like I'm an only childhood of the individual's four. Like of all my friends, I want to be all my friends.
SPEAKER_02When I'm running to you, like I want to know I'm faster than you, and like it will piss me off, like and I'll get over it. But like that, that's gonna ruffle my feathers. Like, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And that's but that's but that's different when you're doing something that is competable. It's not really real, but like you know what I mean, like you doing something where you actually are competing, that makes sense. But like it's the one it's the things in life where like you're like, oh, you have a house you bought a house, I haven't bought a house yet, and you're like bitter about it, not happy about it. It's uh you got a promotion, I haven't got a promotion yet. Like, I'm bitter, like it's those competition.
SPEAKER_02Well, maybe your promotion is coming and it's bigger, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay and so, but those those are the things that like I don't think none of my none of my friends would do. And if I felt that I would not be their friends, like I mean, I want to elevate each other. I always tell me in my classes, I always say, if you become my friend and you hang out with me, all of my friends get faster, stronger, hotter, sexier, richer. Like I elevate my friends, but then my friends also elevate me in so many ways as well. So I just think like elevating each other is like the best thing ever.
SPEAKER_02I love it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and do you feel like how do you feel your friendships now compared to the ones in college? Do you feel like they're kind of the same?
SPEAKER_02Like organic. It's great.
SPEAKER_01Like that's like you don't have the girl that you just got drunk with that knows nothing about you anymore. It's like everyone knows things about you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'm the friend. Like, I want to know every fiber of your being. And yeah, it's like, wait, you didn't all died, you're so great.
SPEAKER_01What's your darkest secret? Just tell me now. Now I like wanted to like I would love to be a therapist on the side because I just want to know every day. Can you imagine a therapist like? A therapist goes to bed being like, I know five people's darkest secrets. Okay, I want to know about your career because I feel like career is something that you can definitely be. I'm very competitive in my career. I love, yeah. I but I use it. As a positive. Like I I I want I love being the best at everything and anything that's very much only child syndrome. But yeah, um also I was trying to make an Olympic team, so that makes sense. But I I love working with a lot of other successful, amazing, you know, uh coworkers in my life. Yeah. And they and they push me and they elevate me, and I love seeing them succeed. And I love like health compet like healthily competing with them. But like what where's your career and um and how did you get into it? And how'd you find it?
SPEAKER_02The whole timeline. So I am a real estate broker and assistant to one of the top brokers in the city.
SPEAKER_01So I y'all you want a house, get up yours, yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, or here. I truly had the opportunity to learn from the best. Um, so I mean, real estate is tough because you think about it, you're not making money unless you're selling houses or like someone's signing a lease. So I was given the opportunity to work for my boss full time, fully manage her entire portfolio. And I am the front-facing person for all of her clients. And it's been the biggest like privilege and joy.
SPEAKER_01That's asset because I feel like in real estate, people your age, like that's that's a tough thing to I don't know. I just go like real estate, like you just it's so much years of it's like.
SPEAKER_02Well, it's one of those things you don't go for because you're like, wait, I need to pay the bills every month. Yeah. So I got the most opportun like the most unique opportunity, in my opinion, to still pay my bills every month and build my own business while doing so. So as long as I am fully committed to her work, I can do as much of my own on the side. So that was a really cool opportunity that I left my dream job for. So I thought out of college I was in medical device sales. So that's what I went like. I was studying, I was like studying marketing in college. I had a specialty in medical device sales, like that. I I got dream job, dream company, and I could have stayed and done that and like spent my 40 or 50 years doing that, right? But that's one of those things in your 20s, like where you sit and fight yourself. Like, do I do this corporate job?
SPEAKER_01Like everybody's like, was it you're like you didn't realize you weren't passionate about it, or like what?
SPEAKER_02Not even that, but I was feeling really held back. There's all these timelines of like you do this for one year and then this for two years, and then this for three years. And it was like there were some people that were like, Well, we want you here, but if we do that, then we have to do that for all your other peers that are in the same role as you, and we can't do that.
SPEAKER_03That's very core, that's very cool.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So then I'm There's not that pr not everybody goes at their like some people will go slow and steady like this, and some people will just like their, you know, how they learn, how they get it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. It's getting to that point of realizing, wait, I don't have to do this.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I can grow on my own, and you know, I could have failed. I haven't yet. And I won't. I won't let myself. But it's like it's one of those things like you just have to take that leap. You know what I mean? If you don't, you won't know. And I didn't know until I did it. And you know, like there's been some learning curves for sure, but it's like what a time better than now to do this. So as far as my career, I and like I think anyone in their 20s, like get like go and like try something else before you like really figure out what you want to settle and do. Like, you're not constricted to this like rule book of like I studied marketing, I have to do marketing for the next 40 years. Like, no, like maybe you'll become a yoga teacher. I don't know. Like I think that's what's so hard about like become a doctor, like do something. There's people that go to PA school in their like 30s, yeah. You know, it's like not everyone is fortunate enough enough to be able to do that, but like if you can and if you like really feel that drive, do it.
SPEAKER_01That's so awesome. Yeah, I love that. I love that, like, because I think that so many people they it's school is so expensive, and so they spend all these thousands and thousands of dollars to get this degree, and they feel like they have to use it. They're like, well, no, and like they, you know, and so some people I think get caught in a rut of like, oh, I did 10 years because my degree gave me this and I'm supposed to do this. And they're like at year two or three, they're like, I actually learned and I'll love this.
SPEAKER_02You kind of realize too, there's like puzzle pieces of like all these things were not a waste, like they brought you to here, no matter what. Like, and they built you to this, and now you're gonna grow to be this. Like, but you're not stuck in a box, like I just feel like everyone like is sometimes feel so tied down and stuck in this little bubble that like pop the bubble, like get out, like go try something else, and you might hate it and fail and go do 10 other things. Like, I'm young, I haven't like lived and experienced like a lot, but like I at least like see the bigger picture of that's what yeah, should be doing, you know, and I wish I did it more.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I feel like that's one thing is learning over time. Like, I feel like when I was in my 20s, like I give any advice to 20-year-olds is that being now 43, I know I don't look like it. Don't you don't have to tell me, you don't have to tell. Um, but is that and you're in your 20s, you think that there's so much time in life. Like you're like, oh my god, all the time, and you just like you know, you stay in relationships for two years longer than you should because you're like, oh, I hope it, whatever. And then you realize like life is quick. You don't really like I keep not bidding if I'm like I still feel 25 and like in in my heart and my mind, but I'm like, holy crap, I'm 43. Like time goes by and like you don't have the time to waste two years here and two years there. And like when you were out of your career and you're not yes, if you're in a career and you're not loving it, like hey, advice to 27-year-olds if you're in something and you're not go like do it, find your way out.
SPEAKER_02Take the leap.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, take something else and go do it.
SPEAKER_02Take a loan, get alone. Yeah, I mean figure it out, ask your grandma. I don't know, but yeah.
SPEAKER_01I mean, also I had so many of my friends that are like I'm like, I'm starting the podcast. My friends are like, Finally, Sean, like finally.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so it's we have to talk about the dating piece.
SPEAKER_01Oh, too.
SPEAKER_02I need all your takes.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I know I'm always talking about dating or just in life. Um, but I do love that. So, 20-year-olds, take that, take what you said is like go after your passion, like don't waste your time. Like, I love that you thought you were being held back and you were like, No, I'm getting out of this. Like, I'm gonna do something that doesn't hold me back. Just because like the person next to you is struggling and you know, and they're needing to go at the pace that that company was going and you were thriving, you were happy to hold back your success because you were on that person's side.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. Yeah, because you're literally 10 miles behind me and I'm like So you slow down to go their pace?
SPEAKER_01No, like I'm gonna speed up and I'm gonna go to the next thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, like if you're gonna tell me no, I'm gonna find my yes. See competitive. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I'm I think being competitive, my two favorite words are competitive and discipline. If you're competitive, you're gonna go after things in life, whether it's friends, whether it's success, it's work, it's you know, how you want to feel physically, um, mentally, but also it's it just it's success. That's why a lot of companies hire like athletes because they're competitive and they're like failure. Yeah, failure's not an option.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, my old company was literally all do one athletes. Like it was, it was insane. Like that's what they were known for.
SPEAKER_01My heart. And then my second favorite word is discipline. I think that so many people like don't have enough discipline. They're like, oh, like I'm gonna eat the rest of the food because I want to waste it. No, you waste it and you stay fit, like you don't overeat. Like, I'm gonna I'm gonna have another drink because my friend wanted me to. No, stay disciplined, don't have it. Now you're hungover because your dumbass friend wanted to be hungover. Like, no, no, yeah, no one's gonna make me be hungover for that. You can stay hungover and you can throw up. I'm gonna be out playing beach volleyball. Like, no, for now. Those are my two favorite worries. Okay, dating. This is was a lot of my a lot of my episodes will be about dating. So yeah, I always tell people like a lot of people were like, why is your podcast gonna be like so good?
SPEAKER_02And I was like, Because I'm the fucking best, and you don't I don't need to say anything else.
SPEAKER_01But I was like, Well, talent always rises. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm taking a leap of faith. Like, yeah, I've crushed it with every company I worked for in fitness. Um, and then personally with private.
SPEAKER_02So why would you fail at this now?
SPEAKER_01I know, I've I'm but I was I'm scared.
SPEAKER_02Like I And who's gonna tell you? Like that's my that's oh, don't get me going on that. Like, who are you to tell me? You know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just feel like my fate.
SPEAKER_02Oh, really? You know how this is gonna go?
SPEAKER_01And so somebody was like, Oh, so why are you different? And I'm like, Well, one, I'm the I'm an only child, I'm the only one. Well, and I'm yeah, the only Sean Williams that looks like this. There are other Sean Williams, but the Sean. But I I was like, if my personal, like there are so many personal trainers out there, and it's a super saturated market, but people choose to come to me in mass, you know, followings. Like, I have my classes selling out this and that. So, like you couldn't even get into my classes in LA. Chicago's definitely been a different vibe uh in fitness for me, but it's I just I've been in many of your sell-offs, though. No, they still sell out Chicago. Chicago still is a very, you know, whatever it's it's but I'm on the wait list sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, knocking at the door.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. But then you don't get in because you're late.
SPEAKER_02The five minutes kills me. Yeah, they're like it kills me. Like, what do you mean five minutes? And the front desk allows to be like, hmm, it's been five minutes. I'm sorry, yes, and I'm here. And do you want me to list what I was doing for the 10 minutes before that? Like, I'll I'll name, like, literally, let me in the damn class. Yeah, they just want my 35 bucks. Oh, it's off awful when you tally that up, like the amount of $35 charges I've had.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I think the biggest reason is because they don't they just don't want people being a disruption in class.
SPEAKER_02But but yes, like yeah, not a disruption when you're the main of the not you coming in and being like ding ding.
SPEAKER_01I'm making a scene. Um, but I just I was scared for a long time because I was scared. I was literally being a hypocrite to everything I told my clients. I was like, I'm scared of failure. I what if it doesn't do well? Like, what if I like tell everybody I'm gonna have a podcast and I have two viewers and it's you and me and you know what I mean? So I but eventually I just like was like, Sean, it's been in your heart. You want to do this. Like, why would you fail? Go.
SPEAKER_02You have it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And the biggest thing that I'm unique by that most people don't see, as I think a lot of the world, when it comes to like anybody that's you know in social media or some that is like the stereotypical gay guy. Um, which again, nothing wrong with that. There's a different, there's a different variation of being gay, whatever. But no one has seen like the bro gay. I call it the bromo, the bro homo. That's like I literally am a walking virgin. You ever see heated robbery?
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Yeah, I've seen it twice through.
SPEAKER_01You're like twice. So like all of it.
SPEAKER_02I literally saw it twice through.
SPEAKER_01All my friends, I've only seen it once, but all my friends kept telling me like you need to see it, you need to see it. And I was like, no, no, no. I thought it was gonna be like just like hookup culture and this and that stuff, but like I just that's not me. And then like notion, I actually think you would like the storyline. So, anyways, that's very much my life is like the jock who just you know came out to be like, I want another guy that's like like me, and I just want to bro out every day. I want to play sports, talk sports, fantasy football.
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, I you will find your person.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I it's very hard in my dating pool. Like, my dating pool is smaller. Uh, guys like me are usually in the closet. I'm out, but most guys are in the closet. Moral story of this is that I feel my podcast will do well because I can help a lot of people because my brain is straight. Like I'm wired, my brain is straight, but just my vision's gay. And a lot of people like are like they're like, hey, I just this is like the weirdest thing I can say to help people like learn my experience is you know, when you're when you're it's those people who like I would they were born a man and they're like, I feel like I was born in the wrong body, so they become a woman, they transition to a woman. I was born gay and a gay body, but I like internally straight. It's bizarre. But there's no surgery to correct my situation. You know, I can't, I can't transition from a boy to a girl. I can't transition from being a gay body to a straight body. So, like, but my vision is the same, but my brain it just happens to be.
SPEAKER_02And that makes you you and that makes you special. And like, why do we even have to explain it, you know?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but I just feel like when some people say, like, why would your podcast do well? I just like I'm like, well, this is why. Because I can I can help women because when you're telling me a guy's doing something, you're like, oh, I'm being this guy, he's doing this. I'm like, I know exactly what he's doing. I know, I know, I know like I can help you with I know how they think, I know what they're doing. I've also done so much therapy that I just know behaviors and patterns really well. Um, but I also want to help like it's so cool.
SPEAKER_02I also want to help guys. Like so tax buff. It's so text buff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And I had a lot of mental health when I was younger, like figuring it out and being in jog, and like, you know, I and we'll get into it on other episodes, but like there is some deep, deep stuff that I had to battle, you know, with that, and to be the person I am today. So I want to help men and their mental health, and I also want to help like guys who are in my situation who were like, I don't want to come out because whatever, what everything I see is not me. I get it. Like I literally came out and I went to therapy and was like, I don't want to be gay. That's this isn't me. Like, I don't this everyone that I'm meeting is like, I don't relate to them, I don't understand them. Like, yeah, I don't think like them, you know. So I had to learn to love myself and learn of what what is what is being gay as Sean mean, you know what I mean? And know that I'm first and foremost, Sean. I'm not gay, Sean of Sean. So it's just never been my identity, but of course I'm like, we'll tell people about it because I feel like I can help them in that way. So that's why I wanted to get into the podcast. Um, but dating-wise, dating has always been very challenging for me. Yeah, relatable. But oh my god. But I want to learn about your dating and how it's been when you're dating in college to dating.
SPEAKER_02Well, I am very selective when it comes to when it comes to that. Yeah, I think selective is another like form of self-respect, right? Like, what are you going to allow and what not? You what do you mean, what are we? Like you are nothing, sister. If you are thinking that thought, like that is it. Like that is your answer. Um, and that was like a realization that I've had. Like, you are not going to catch me dead on my knees asking a guy like do you like me? Um, what is this? Like, I don't need I don't need to ask. I never will. I never can like be that person like seeking validation from a man. Like it better just come.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And if it doesn't, that is not the person for me. And that's just what works for me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And again, you can be disappointed. Like, you can really like somebody.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh, I'm really getting butthurt. Are you kidding me? Like, I'm hurt because it's like, wait a second. We just went on eight dates, and then you are still actively updating your hinge profile. Like you just changed your promise. I'm sorry.
SPEAKER_00What we're still very actively looking.
SPEAKER_02Yes. That oh my god. Yeah, that's that's that's enough to get me going. But like I cannot be with someone that's like less dominant than me. Like when I'm in a relationship, I do not want to call the shots. I call the shots every day in my life, all day long, doing my job and managing and doing things. This is like really like trad, but like kind of want to be managed. Like sorry, I said it. Like, but I I don't want to be like the bossy bitch wife. Like, I don't want to be submissive either. Like, I let that be known.
SPEAKER_01Well, my friend, she's so funny. She's literally like so. She's like, babe, no, no, no, no, but that no.
SPEAKER_02That's not me. Okay. I fear conflict, right? Like, I get scared of fights. Like, to me, like in a relationship, like a fight, like it's over. Like, that's where my mind's going. Yeah. Like total immaturity still inside.
SPEAKER_01That's a young thing where it's like your first pride is like, oh my God, we're not met for each other. Like, no, like work through it. It'll hopefully if it makes you stronger, great. If it not, then yeah.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01I also want to do a little segment that we're gonna call dumper do a little dumper do. No legal do. Um yeah. So you would either necessarily have to dump them, but it could just be like a no or a red flag, or like do like a do as like yes.
SPEAKER_03Like that's a hell yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's a hell yeah. Yeah. So do you want me to go first or you go first? You wears shows up to your date, your first date, and where's Birkenstocks?
SPEAKER_02Dump. Dumping a dump. I do not want to see your feet. Oh my god.
SPEAKER_01Okay, straight guys, and you don't, you shouldn't.
SPEAKER_02If you don't want to see it, if a straight guy gets too many manicures or pedicares, that's like that's the Birkenstocks piece actually just really triggered me, and that's a personal thing, but like total dump. And but like, you know, maybe I'll give you like like a pass on like rainbows, like sandals, like flip-flops, sure. There's some guys that can make those look so cute.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I yeah, I like flip-flops, but like also maybe let's go. So for me, I love a guy in like Berks with like a guy in Berks with shorts and like a bag AT and a backwards hat. Okay. Oh my god. Like that for me is like yes. Um, but for straight guys like or any guys in general, like you should always at least get two pedicures a year, like keep your keep your feet clean. Um please go. If they like them too much, then they might be like a little red flag that they might be sliding to my DMs like yours.
SPEAKER_02I love that.
SPEAKER_01Okay, yours. Rapid of fire.
SPEAKER_02Kiss on the first date.
SPEAKER_01I do not kiss on the first date. Unless the date is electric. Let's say we go unless the date is Chris Hemsworth. If the date starts, like we do breakfast at 10 or like coffee, and then all of a sudden we're like, oh, let's do lunch. That was just fun. Let's go luck.
SPEAKER_02Do that as a first date.
SPEAKER_01If the date like went for 10 hours, then I feel like we'd have like two or three dates, then I'd be open to kissing them. But in general, no. I just like if we're gonna vibe, let's wait. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't even know your first like or your favorite color yet. So I don't want to kiss you.
SPEAKER_01But like also, like, why is your why is your mouth on my mouth? Why is your mouth on my mouth? I know nothing about you.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, unless it's like maybe like someone like I know. Like, you know, like there's like already like this like thing, then like, sure, of course.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Uh uh showed up via public transportation. So I'm from I'm yeah, that's a dumb for me. I'm I this might be a very common, like or controversial topic, but like I'm from the West Coast. We're just not big on public transportation. Like, we just it's not a hot thing. Like, okay, if I was in New York, that'd be different. I think that I I would accept it. New York's the one New York's the one city I would accept because it's like everyone there, like millionaires ride this the subway. But this is gonna be a hot take. I truly feel in life like like bikers are like the bottom of a totem pole of like transportation in this world. Like, I just they are they want to own the road. They're like, but I just like can't. Like if you show up on a bike, I'm like, I can't. Um, okay, so then your next your next question.
SPEAKER_02A guy that has cats.
SPEAKER_01It's a it's a dump.
SPEAKER_02It's an absolute dump.
SPEAKER_01Like, if you start talking about your cat, I'm immediately like finding a way to good make myself because they're not the kind of guys that like just have a cat, like they like post their cat, like they're like gonna put it on like a it's just I don't know.
SPEAKER_02They like it's no, and you're like really passionate, like you instantly just lost all masculinity.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Unless you own like a gone. Unless you own like a tiger. Okay, he's getting okay. Mine. Um, asked to check his fantasy football app during the first date.
SPEAKER_02You know what? Like, cute. You have a passion, like fine.
SPEAKER_01Ha. Do.
SPEAKER_00I would be like, hell yeah. A fucking gay guy that likes fantasy football. Let's go. I'm that's a that's a big do for me.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_00Take your next one.
SPEAKER_02Um, like going with your partner to a workout class.
SPEAKER_01Uh, that's a do. I think that's I think that's I think it's cute. I think that's I think that wanting to like I also think a lot of women like to bring their guy because they want to they go on a show that how good they are at Pilates and be like, look what I can do. And then guys are like holding a pulse for like three minutes and dying.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um, I think it's an absolute mess. I I think it's cute. I think it's cute.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and like that's apparently like a really hot take amongst gals my age. Like, what do you mean you're bringing Yeah? But if you if I cannot be next to the person like that I'm with and kicking their ass and then doing it again the next day, I don't want to Okay, but then if he starts going to bar classes when you're not there, that's a rough that's a jump. Bye.
SPEAKER_01Bye for you're sliding into my DMs, not yours. Um, okay. Um he's hot, but he smacks his mouth when he eats and has an Android.
SPEAKER_00And the text messages are green. There's a little bit, there's a lot to this one.
SPEAKER_02There's like a mental wiring when it comes to like a green text and like how you think about it.
SPEAKER_01I see. Like what?
SPEAKER_02Sorry, no disrespect, but like no.
SPEAKER_01Android people be you, but like that's just not yeah.
SPEAKER_02Again, just because you're not my person doesn't mean I'm I'm gonna choose my American right and treat them and judge the shit out of you. Yeah. And then they're not fun.
SPEAKER_01I need the iPhone. Yeah, I need the I need the eye text. Okay, but hot and smacks' food.
SPEAKER_02So I actually get like I was the kid crying at the at the dinner table, um, like when I heard someone chew. Like, specifically my family, like my mom would get really upset and be like, you need to calm down. But like the chewing sends me beyond. So it's best that we're in a loud restaurant if I'm gonna be like sharing my own. Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01It's like a dump. I just can't do it. Like that means you're gonna that means like if you're gonna like you're gonna. make out with me the way you eat your food. Like you're gonna eat my face. Yeah. I remember one time I was on a date and like I was like taking massive bites and he was like chewing chewing and then before he could even finish the bike he was putting the water so they had like and I was like uh oh I was like you were he was drinking down the food and I was finishing the chewing I was like I'm gonna throw up on your face. Yeah no okay uh how's roommates this is very different if you compare your age compared to my age is a very different question for no still no really not dating guys my age. Yeah so I usually date younger because guys my age look like Santa Claus literally like like not I'm like dear God how old are you? Um I just went to my high school reunion and I was like you just it's just I see people I'm like I can't believe we're the same age um for me no remains is a hard nell like I don't yeah no saying your next one I have four more you have five more no I don't this is a hot take sleeps with socks on no I'm out yeah take those babies off yeah but if you like walk around the house with like socks on and like you don't want to see it.
SPEAKER_02No I can't I I'm not sure I'm like shorts and like I'm I will come into someone's home and I'm that gross person that takes my socks off and puts them in my shoes because I don't like looking at my feet and like seeing socks.
SPEAKER_01It's a personal I get it I get it I get it. Okay reschedules your first date within 24 hours.
SPEAKER_02Oh we're not going on the date.
SPEAKER_01Yeah I mean it obviously if you have like an insane reason but like in general in general it's just like that's just a big dump.
SPEAKER_02Dump.
SPEAKER_01Okay you have not you have do you have any more?
SPEAKER_02Hygiene knows like the things and like prioritizes like you know the haircut and like the clean and shaven and you know like you said earlier like the pedicures like does or doesn't do those things. Like let's say they don't like let's say that's not important.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's oh no that's a dump like it's just like I'm so I'm so hygienic that's such a turnoff for me like what do you mean you don't get your eyebrows done a big thing well I don't know my brother and I were going like sorry to out him but like going to get our eyebrows done together because I'm gonna take care of you and I'm gonna hold your hand here when I tell you you need to get your eyebrows done. Like do the little things like it's not girly it's self-care.
SPEAKER_01Yeah and quick like quick eggs for me guys that like when you have like a random like massive eyebrow or whatever like how do you not see that pluck it uh eye boogers and like hello clear your eyes like why do you use your face like in some cere guys that don't clean their ears after like hello like why do you have like a beehive in your eardrum like what's going on um and then nose hairs like why do men like you not see your profile from the side like you have no you have like hairs coming out of your nose like trim that like I should not see that. Okay my next one is they say I'm not competitive. They're lying dumb some might not be lying but that's a dump for me. Okay your next one give me more um yeah I have c doesn't care about fashion and like weird I that's basic like oh I've had these shorts since the middle school that's so okay so my ex one of my exes was in the closet for three years when I first met him he was an engineer and he was like he dressed nerdy like like he was a nerd and I thought it was hot because he was like this masculine nerd then like then he started dressing like almost like he started caring more about how he looked and like dressing his pants started getting tighter and then I was like it started becoming unattractive to me. I was like you didn't you were such a bro before you like I care but like those the way he started caring. I don't know it just he started dressing more like Metro and I like it. Okay mama's boy oh it's a mess I'm a big do okay my last one is like like someone that's like afraid to like be exclusive with you or like call you like the I don't do care I don't do commitment dump I don't do commitment is when guys like I mean maybe more your age when they're like trying to figure out what they want it's one thing but like guys more like in their 30s if there's a guy you're over 30 years old and you don't know what you're looking for like that's a hot hasn't their bio open to short term open to short term or like not sure open to like not don't know what I'm looking for. I'm like bro like how do you not know yourself like in your 30s you need to know yourself. Yeah your 20s this was goes back this whole up this whole episode your 20s is learning about yourself like you learn so much from 20 to 25. You learn so much from 25 to 30 in your 30s you need to take all those lessons and you should be knowing so much more about yourself. And my last one is they are late to the date. That's fine because so am I yes yeah I again I would if they're two on time and they're like five 10 minutes early they stress me out I'm like do two on time. Yeah um okay well I love that well I'm so proud of you I think that you are insanely like confident for a 24 year old I mean that's one of the reasons why your energy when you told me when I asked you when I just knew you and I wanted you on my podcast and then you told me your age I was like literally blown away I was like whoa I had no idea I just I think commend you on just like how you carry yourself and the work that you've done and I think that a lot of 20 year olds you know could really look up to you and what you've done and what you've accomplished and just your mindset towards things and I just think you seem very mature for for your age and best comment I'm proud of you I'm proud of you yeah I'm still figuring it out yeah but always keep that look keep a little bit of cocky and keep a little bit of humble all through life.
