Sean McElwee and Sean Couevas, both stars of A & E's groundbreaking show "Born This Way", share their close and unique friendship. In this episode they share stories, advice, brotherly love, and talk about the Emmys. They are both sweet and funny. Sean McElwee owns Seanese, a t-shirt company, stars in his own YouTube show, "The Sean Show", and is a keynote speaker. Sean McElwee has Down syndrome. Sean Couevas is his best friend. He does not have a disability.

Hello, My name is Greta Harrison. Welcome to Born Fabulous Podcast Episode 11 of Season two The theme of this season is Changing the world one friendship at a time. You will hear interviews with best friends. One person happens to have a disability, and the other does not. This episode is the fourth and last part of my interview with Sean Mac Away and his best friend, Sean Cuevas. Both Shawn's are famous for being on Annie's groundbreaking show, Born This Way, Sean MCA. We was one of the main stars, and Sean Cuevas was featured often as his best friend. Many of shock waves his life milestones include Sean, Mca, We and Our on film is part of the show. Shawn McElroy. He owns Shaw Nees, a T shirt company. He stars in the Sean Show on YouTube and is also a keynote speaker. He is 25 loves his independence and loves life in a quirky and fun way. He is now known for Shawn McElwee has Down Syndrome. Sean Cuevas is the proud father of a son named Holden, who was three. He is also an outside sales rep and all around great guy Sean Cuevas is 36 does not have a disability. Both Shawn's have a deep, fun and interesting friendship. This episode will include goals, the Emmys, advice and brotherly love. Please enjoy the short clip of Love Is a Potion. 10 years from now, my, my son almost will be a preteen. I can't even imagine. Like, probably will be girl crazy, because he, uh you're kind of is your lights up for any girl that he said Navy's men? He, uh he'll be a respectful lady's moon. Yeah, but, I mean, that's most of my goals are centered around him. I just want to be a great father for him and whether I get married again. Or, um, whatever career I have, I just want to be able to take care of your hand. Can Hughes it? Christian for him? Oh, poor dear. I know a baby or not enough. I've had a mother. I would have another kid if I found the right person. So I gotta ask you not Yeah,

Yeah. Jimmy Buffett could be a talk show host if he wanted to, because he could do anything he wants to, too. But I think you mean Jimmy Fallon. Yeah.

Okay, But yet, but back to the Emmys, talking about that experience, Was it kind of like you were living your dream? Because, you know, you always have these goals. Was it like, Wow, my goal is Was it like that? Especially when the show one.

No, you lost this year. But you have won, and you've won in the past, You know, we were in this. Yeah, And so what was that like when the show won in the past? What was that like?

Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Good. Like, I don't meet Jane. Let then the cell. Ah, uh, they, uh Well, they got a pink tuxedo. Yeah. Yeah, right. So you had a lot of cool pictures that he met everybody. Every celebrity that walked the red carpet, he pretty much, Yeah, they all wanted to have their picture taken with use because on them think I'm cool up nice. And that got me to be on there so and everything.

That's cool. Now, Sean. See, you're the friend and you're at home watching and then hearing about this, what did that feel like for you as his friend? Were you? How did you feel?

That guy's awesome. I I like, see? And, uh, me. Yeah, and just what the show's done for him and turned him into a celebrity has been pretty cool. And every time we go somewhere out into public, he gets recognized, which is pretty cool. And then they recognize me, but only secondary to show him. But I think it's great he's season body of the celebrity life Pretty well. I'm she stuck like by God. Yeah, that's what he does.

That's funny. Now that that's very funny. That seems like a typical guy thing to do. That's very cute. So and you must have been very proud, right? You must have felt very proud. That's that's cool. Now what would you all say to the people listening? They might be families, or they might be young people with disabilities or people who are concerned about people with disabilities who are struggling to make friends. Do you have any advice for them on friendship and how to make friends? Because, Sean M. You're very outgoing. But not everybody is like you. There are kids who are shyer. So what advice do you have for them? Both of you?

Oh, some people They need Thio to listen not to go out and do things because a cz a lot of autumn things like go get food, shopping, stuff like that and go out to see a really don't Oh, no pulling stuff, Zach, that right Sean. Yeah, I would say Maybe just never turned down an invitation. Never turned down something that's going on where there's gonna be other people in your no same social scene, like any activities. I would say Go for it. Even if you're shy and not, you know, not really that outgoing. Put yourself in those situations. And, you know, I'm gonna probably come up to talk to you, and you could develop a friendship, but I would say, just never turned down those moments. Any activity that you can, dear. Do it. Just go out, go half on a doesn't know. Yeah, exactly.

Go out and go. Have fun. And it doesn't matter. I like that. I like that very much. So is there anything else that you all want the audience to

know? Um, we didn't really talk about. I had the luxury of having shown is my best man. Oh, yes, yes. You know, typical bachelor parties air, you know. Pretty wild, huh? John planned my bachelor party. Yeah, I did. And we're in Hawaii, and we went to a magic show which was not like him day. Easy, because right time I've been out to him and well, I gotta cook. So I'm not doubt, rock. I'm sure it's time, right? Yeah. Yeah. You made the thing with the watch disappear when it reappeared A different time. Yeah, exactly. But it was way had so much fun, and it wasn't Ah, you know, typical bachelor party. But we laughed probably harder than we've ever laughed together. And, uh, just had an awesome time. And hey, Doc. Yeah, I wouldn't have had it any other way, was a perfect bachelor party, and he was a great best man. Yeah, that you have a speech to delegates beach.

And that's such a good testimony to again how you've been there for the important parts of your lives. Really. And that and that. And the only reason we didn't see more of your wedding on born this way is because they weren't sure if they were going to be renewed. Correct? Right

now, the wedding happened in between seasons, and we're still waiting to be ah green them for the next season. The showrunner Laura was going thio pay out of pocket herself to send a crew out there. But I know as a producer on bonus, Yeah, she's the She's the main person, but we decided not to do that. And we just give them some of the footage that we shot in. The photography from the living inserted a little bit of it.

And I really loved a place of our parents because it is as Tim not married to, you know, like to cabin charities here every time. The cast are as our too much money. You've been in your own apartment for a few years now. Yeah, exactly. You're going on his 3rd 3rd year, I think. Yeah. And it's definitely I use. This is the second apartment he's been in on the zone. It's definitely a bachelor's bad. It's that. And it's, uh, definitely were dudes live? Yeah, there's, ah, posters on the wall in the liver, your own on my dream as a best I goes picture. You got some girls pictures on the wall? Yeah, they're respectful. And then you have pictures with every celebrity the year. You know, I really gotta dami as Chris. Paul. Chris. Paul? Yes. One, Huh? Dio kiss ground focused around. I don't know. You met him? Yeah. Did you assign catcher? Okay, there's so many. There's, like 300 on your Well, Yeah. So

I've You've already told a lot of funny stories and you've told some sweet stories are there any more sweet stories? The that you have to share. I

Yeah, because, uh, it's been a journey for me. I really love him about Yeah, we've had some good times, too. A lot of cool things together. Yeah, and a lot more cool things to come, right?
