Thanks again for joining us for what's it what I call this thing? Welcome back to It's Not Just Another Line Dance. I'm your host Jason Sutt with Sunset Coast Country Dancers. I'm here today with two of my favorite dancers, Zoe and Lydia Hine, the Zoe's girls. How are you, girls?

SPEAKER_00We love it when we're in the hoodies. I love the plug. I got super excited when I thought to myself, who would I have on this podcast? And you're two of the most exciting young ladies I know. I've known for a long time.
SPEAKER_03Thank you.
SPEAKER_00And I just think to myself, like, these girls are the perfect people to talk to about line dancing. Because when you're not our typical demographic, we have a kind of an older demographic in line dancing, but it's getting younger and younger. And YouTube brings so much excitement to it. I just wanted to ask you, what got you into line dancing and why?
SPEAKER_02That's a great question.
SPEAKER_01That's a great question.
SPEAKER_02Do you want to answer it first?
SPEAKER_01I don't, I don't know. I would say honestly, I was I didn't know anything about line dancing until seeing Sunset Coast. Um until Sunset Coast came to our area, I was like, maybe I saw a video or two, and then I think we went to our first one in July of last year. Um I think me and Zoe went together and it was just so fun. So I'm literally into line dancing because of Sunset Coast.
SPEAKER_02And it got me hooked. Like as soon as I went to the first one, I never wanted to leave. Um and it's like it's so much fun and just the the constant how do I explain that better? Um genuine it's so genuine. Like you're all just trying to have fun and dancing, and it's just so much community to it. And so as soon as we realized as soon as I realized that, I loved it. It's just so much fun.
SPEAKER_01We've been going to Sunset Coast for two years now, I think. Or no, a year, or a year or two years, a year and a half, two years. I think it's our second July ago.
SPEAKER_00We went two Julys ago. But yeah. Which is exciting. I I you mentioned something that is really uh key that other people have said always it's about that genuine community, uh, that fun that I'm having with other people on the dance floor. So that's a good why. Uh and it's just it's it's it's interesting to see you guys come up and do this. I I think when I first started getting it get got into line dancing, you had both kind of like laughed a little bit at me. We definitely did.
SPEAKER_01We definitely did. No, we thought it was cool, but we were like, okay, we'll see. And now we love it.
SPEAKER_02You try to teach us it, and we couldn't get it.
SPEAKER_00So I'm close with your family, which is kind of fun because I get to stop by the house every now and then. And what I do, we line dance sometimes, or I see you girls make it up line dances that dances, which is which is so fun to watch. So that's really cool. So you guys really love it.
SPEAKER_01Yes. We love line dancing. Yeah, it's one of our favorite things to do, especially together. Um Zoe and I work a lot, so it's like one of our favorite ways to do something fun together, and it's like a way to like turn your brain off of the work side of life. That's great. And just like it's real, it's so fun, it's high energy. It's also exercise, it's like again, we're busy. Yeah. So that is that's one of my favorite things about it for us in our the time of life we're in right now.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, that that comes up a lot in conversations with people that it's just it's the time that I get to shut my brain off. I mean, really, they tell me I'm just worried about making the right steps. You know, and I don't think about anything else, and the next thing you know, I'm having fun. And I equate that a lot of times to doing yoga. Like in yoga, you're doing yoga, you're just trying to breathe sometimes. You're not focused on anything else because you're holding a pose, trying to breathe. Just like in line dancing, you're trying to not fall over your own feet, you know. So you're there really enjoying it afterwards. But when you get it, you're having a really good time. You're really enjoying what's going on. You you get it, it clicks, and then the smiles come out, you know. Which is great. Uh, what's your what's your favorite uh place to line dance? Oh, that's hard.
SPEAKER_01Okay, I like Sunset Coast Tuesday nights at Union Social. Yeah. In the summer at Zoe's many donuts. I love that. Because you have the sunset and the line dance and just a party.
SPEAKER_00And fresh donuts. I will say that donuts really top off the night. I look while I'm instructing, I look forward to getting that extra sugar bush at the end of the night.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Um, and then we go, we go to Cowboy Up sometimes in the winter. Um and then we every time, one of my favorite things about since learning line dancing is now every time we go on vacation somewhere. Oh, we always do that. Every time we go on vacation, we go line dancing near me. Line dancing near me every time we go now.
SPEAKER_02And every place has their own community of line dancers too, which is really funny.
SPEAKER_00It's fun to watch, isn't it? Yeah. So uh we did go, uh I went and joined the family on spring break. Yeah. And that's actually how I got into dancing. Most people don't know this. I went to spring break with your family years ago. We went to a place called Tootsie's, and when I saw an older man dancing, and he had to be in his like 70s and 80s. And as I was having my beer and my wings with your dad and you guys watching the live music, I was thinking to myself, man, here this guy's having more fun than anyone else.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like that's what I'm saying. I want to do that.
SPEAKER_00And that's how I hired Sharon to start teaching me how to dance, which led to line dancing, which is so cool. That's all I never knew. I never knew that.
SPEAKER_01I don't think we must have we were too young to go to the bar. We were too young to be able to do it. So we were at the place, but that I never knew it was because it took us as crazy.
SPEAKER_00It is pretty, it is pretty cool. So uh that's how I got into dancing, which led to line dancing, which now this last spring break, we stopped at a place called the Yard Bar. You remember that? Where?
SPEAKER_01Sutton won first place with that dance combined. First place, because buckle and everything.
SPEAKER_00It was funny because I wasn't really trying to competition.
SPEAKER_01No, are you neutral? You actually weren't even trying your best, and you still won first place.
SPEAKER_00Which is fun. But they're a great group down there. There are a lot of fun people. What a cool place to dance at, actually. So fine. Uh great owners of a business that welcome in something like line dancing. I think it's just such a good community. I mean, line dancers don't drink a lot. Yeah. But they they have more fun. And then so when other people are watching people have fun, they drink and eat.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, we went back on Saturday without not the competition, and it was absolutely packed the entire time. Time. Not a seat was available.
SPEAKER_00That shows you how powerful and how much it's growing. So you girls are into uh social media a lot. So Instagram and TikTok, and you see this uh as younger people, how popular it is online. Yeah. Do you watch any of those videos ever? Actually, uh when I when I have to learn it, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like I I go to YouTube.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I sometimes look for a reel. Or or sometimes I'll like watch a reel and say, ooh, that dance looks like something I can do, and then I'll try and do it. Nice. Um, so yeah, sometimes when I see something like that. Um, but yeah.
SPEAKER_00Nice. Favorite uh favorite attire for line dancing. What do you like to wear? My boots, of course. Boots. Boots, of course. Look at the linen dance.
SPEAKER_01Shorts, because it's so sneaky.
SPEAKER_02You have a whole dance.
SPEAKER_01This is from line dancing. Um shorts. I I just get so hot, so anything that isn't too suffocating.
SPEAKER_02I always wear braids in my hair. I like to have braids.
SPEAKER_01Anything to stay cool. It's pretty cute.
SPEAKER_00Uh favorite uh spot we covered, f favorite attire. Reasons why. Um is there is there what's your is is your favorite thing to the community? Did we talk about that already?
SPEAKER_01Ah, okay. Love the community. I just I think my if I had to say my favorite thing, it would be like the ability to turn my brain out and just have a good time. Yeah, I agree.
SPEAKER_02Like it's just pure joy. Like all you're doing is having fun. There's nothing it's just so much fun. I love being bad at something.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh. Yes, yes, it's so awesome to struggle and like the gratification of learning something, and even if it takes a long time.
SPEAKER_02But just to be aware of your progress, it just feels so rewarding.
SPEAKER_01Um and never ever ever like judged for learning. Like everyone's just learning, yeah, which I love. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And I like to watch the really good dancers too and be like, oh my gosh, like I want to get to that one day. That's the spot, right? That's the spot. And then being where you are, and you're like, okay, you can do this. Um, but yeah, I think like that.
SPEAKER_01And then I started coming to your swing dance club with my friend, and we've had so much fun there because so like you like get kind of good at line dancing, you're like, oh, let's try something new, and you're back at the bottom, and you've kind of worked your way up. Um so that's been an interesting learning as well.
SPEAKER_00And when you learn other dance styles, it makes you better at line dancing. As I think line dancing makes you better at other dance styles. Oh, for sure. You know what I mean? So I think I see people that are bachata and salsa dancers or swing dancers, they get better when they do line dance. So it's a kind of a it's kind of a real win-win there. So that's great. So uh one of my last questions for you is what's your favorite line dance?
SPEAKER_02Oh, that's a good question. I think my favorite is Everything I Love by Morgan Rollin, but then I like to do it to freight train too because it's really fast. Um, but I think that's my favorite right now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, one more silver dollar. One more silver dollar, yeah. That's the name of the dance. That's a good one. I like the shuffle box.
SPEAKER_02Me too.
SPEAKER_00Everybody likes a good shuffle box. I just choreographed the dance with the shuffle box in it.
SPEAKER_01So he choreographed an 80-count dance.
SPEAKER_00So you'll have to learn it.
SPEAKER_01Am I to do the simpler version? Um, favorite? Okay, that's a good one. We always love our the OG original Honky Tonk Highway for beginners.
SPEAKER_02You taught us.
SPEAKER_01The first one we ever learned. That's a classic one. So good. Luke Holmes.

SPEAKER_01Um, and then I would say now, I really like the one we just learned on Thursday, which was To Levitating by Duolipa. Okay, perfectly with the song. Perfectly with the song.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's an Amy Christianson uh dance. It's a really good dance. Levitating. Great song. Who doesn't love dua lipa right now? So good, so good. So good. The baby, is that the other one?
SPEAKER_02The baby, that one doesn't, I think the one just her actually for the dance better.
SPEAKER_00But we do love the baby. But we do like the baby. No, the duo lipa would original with that with uh Amy Christians' dance. That is a really good levitating, great, great dance.
SPEAKER_03It was so satisfying, so satisfying on Thursday.
SPEAKER_00That's good. I'm glad you liked it. So um, I I just love that you come dancing. I'm just gonna say this uh publicly you're two of the most exciting people to watch out there, and you bring people, and you are so welcoming. Everything you guys do, anyways, you're so welcoming bringing people in. You are you create your own community. I love watching you girls dance. Every time I see you, I'm like, my girls are here. You know what I mean? Like it's just so exciting to see. I mean, I see that about a lot of people, but you hold a special place in my heart because I know how busy you are and how hard you work, and how when you come to support something that I'm doing, I love to see that.
SPEAKER_01So that that means a lot. We love going. Um, and we love bringing people. We beg everyone we know. We're like, get your butts out here. It's so fun. Um, and then now we have friends that are now addicted to the city.
SPEAKER_02Like now we have to coordinate rides and everything. Yeah, because there's so many of them less. Our friends want to go.
SPEAKER_00Um but yeah, we love to do it when we can. I was also it's so funny. Uh a lot of this may be just a just anybody, it may be hard for them to get out and do something new alone.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, very true. So when you can line dancing can be so intimidating. Yeah, right. Because you don't know any of the if you the song's going and everyone's dancing and you don't know it, yeah, it's a little intimidating.
SPEAKER_00And you guys, you guys grab people and say, come with me, which I think is great because some none people are gonna try unless you sometimes grab them, drag them sometimes, you know? And I'm I do the same thing, uh not as not as well as you do it. You guys really have an impact on people, which is great, and uh it's super cool. So uh one of the things I'm looking to this summer and every summer as I can is dance with the girls at the donut truck. Yes, I think we're gonna do it again this summer, which is gonna be fun. Oh my gosh, yes.
SPEAKER_01We we have some stuff in the works, we're so excited. We can't wait to be back out eating donuts and dancing.
SPEAKER_00So well, I can't wait for one day when I own my dance bar. Oh my gosh, yes. And there's a donut truck there all the time. Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01It's the perfect, like when you're tired from you know, you just did 10 in a row, you need a little snack, and then you feel right back on the floor. Sugar pop. So perfect. So perfect.
SPEAKER_00We need a choreographic dance called Sugar Pop.
SPEAKER_01Oh, we should. I like it, I like it.
