sung, in the 400 years of exile, as they were going to Jerusalem three times a year, that the temple, for some of it, was in ruins, that it had been destroyed, and then when it had been rebuilt, it was small and meager, that there was no king in Israel, there were no, in the sense, prophets in Israel, there was no word of God coming from Jerusalem. 00:04:27.519 --> 00:04:39.759 There was no sense of both Islam and Judaism and Christianity, with the Dome of the Rock there in Islam, and of course the Temple Mount there and the Wailing Wall in Judaism, the place where Christ comes from in it was like before, what it's like now, and what's it going to be like in the future? 00:08:58.480 --> 00:09:01.279 And so it is with this pilgrimage psalm to Jerusalem. 00:09:01.360 --> 00:09:04.559 Our feet have already been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem. 00:09:05.120 --> 00:09:07.440 Let's begin by looking at Jerusalem's past. 00:09:07.600 --> 00:09:09.600 Verse 2, as I mentioned, is mentioned, you are introduced to it with Melchizedek, the king of Salem. 00:09:18.399 --> 00:09:19.840 But it's not called Jerusalem. 00:09:19.919 --> 00:09:21.200 It's not called a city at this point. 00:09:21.360 --> 00:09:26.720 Not until the book of Joshua do you encounter it as a city, and then it's not obviously a Jewish city. 00:09:27.279 --> 00:09:29.919 Abraham and the patriarchs conquer their first city. 00:09:49.840 --> 00:09:51.519 From there, they're supposed to spread out. 00:09:51.600 --> 00:09:54.559 They're supposed to go north up towards the Sea of Galilee. live there and don't want to welcome the Israelites. 00:10:13.759 --> 00:10:17.120 One of the first groups of people we encounter are those that live in Jerusalem. 00:10:17.360 --> 00:10:21.759 They're ruled by a king, Adonai Zedek, which means Lord Zedek. 00:10:22.159 --> 00:10:23.759 He's the one who rules over Jerusalem. 00:10:23.840 --> 00:10:25.759 Jerusalem is up in the mountains, by the way. 00:10:25.919 --> 00:10:27.600 It's in a bowl up in the mountains. 00:10:27.679 --> 00:10:31.519 So you have to walk up to it and then it's enclosed, it's encircled. 00:10:31.840 --> 00:10:51.360 And these five kings get their five armies and they're going to go ambush the Israelites. 00:10:51.600 --> 00:10:57.759 The Israelites hear about this and they take their own shortcut and they get Jerusalem from the other side. 00:10:58.000 --> 00:11:03.120 They conquer Jerusalem and they chase down Adonized and the five kings and their armies and conquer them. 00:11:03.279 --> 00:11:08.399 This is the battle, you know, in Joshua chapter 9, where Joshua prays that the sun would stand still. 00:11:08.480 --> 00:11:09.279 This is that battle. 00:11:09.360 --> 00:11:13.440 He wants the sun to stand still in the sky so they can conquer Jerusalem. 00:11:13.679 --> 00:11:20.799 And then when God stops the rotation of the earth and keeps all the trees from flying off and
