A look into some of the ways Jesus showed great courage in the face of adversity.

Today I'd like to talk about courage. There are a few scriptures that in the Old Testament around uh Joshua, you see, you know, be creat be courageous. Um, but it's really not something that you see the word in the New Testament. Um, I think in scripture it's much more taught by example that we see people who had to be come or were courageous. I think of uh Midian, I think of David, we think of Joshua, Moses, all the great saints, Rahab. Um, they all had to practice courage. And looking at my life, I don't think that I would describe myself as a courageous person. Uh, in some ways, I think of myself as a coward. And I've read a lot about war and uh people on the battlefield and some of the courageous things that they have done, and I kind of go, whoa, I'm not sure that that is something I could do. So, to talk about courage, this podcast, to do this podcast requires courage. And I realize that there's a story in scripture that illustrates what I'm talking about, and it's Jesus going back to his hometown, and we you're probably familiar with the story. Um, he shows up in the synagogue in his hometown. They give him the scroll of Isaiah, he turns to the place where it talks in Isaiah 58 about the Spirit of the Lord is upon me. It's it's he's proclaim proclaiming release to the captives. And it's a great scripture and describes Jesus' ministry. And he says, Today that scripture has both been fulfilled in your hearing. And oh, the people said, Man, this is wonderful. This is the hometown boy, uh, made good. Uh, do the stuff you did out around in Galilee. We've heard all about you and the miracles and do some of that here. And Jesus kind of says, you know, um, in the time of Elijah, um there wasn't, he didn't send food, Elijah, to the widows in Israel. He sent, he went to um a woman in Sidon and fed her. And in the time of Elisha, they didn't heal any of the lepers that were in Israel, but only Naaman, the Syrian, was healed. And they went from everybody saying how wonderful this guy is, to they were, it says the scripture says they were filled with wrath, and they were ready to kill him, and they took him outside of the city, and they were gonna throw him over the hill and kill him. And why did Jesus act this way? Why did he essentially poke the bear? Um he exposed what was really in their heart, and what was really in their heart was pretty ugly, and that took courage. And I think that is like an a tremendous example of who Jesus was, that he was willing to go into their midst and expose their unbelief. And I got to looking, I don't think he ever went back. They had their chance to hear what it was that he had to say, and as far as I can tell, he never went back to Nazareth again. But Jesus had to face that obstacle in his life and overcome that before he could move on to the next thing. And I think in our lives, in your life, there is something there that is going to require courage for you to move on to the next step of your life. It's an obstacle that's in your way, and you're going to have to face that obstacle. Uh, for me, it has been doing this podcast and sharing with you some of the things uh that I am having to face in my own life. So thank you for listening. Um, let me pray for you. Uh, Lord, somebody out there who's listening to this is facing a challenge in their life. And I pray that you will help that individual face what they have to face and overcome what they need to overcome.
