Hey everyone, welcome to Emmaus Rhodes Podcast. Our hope is that it can help supplement your daily devotionals and be something meaningful to you that will help deepen your faith with Jesus Christ. Now for our host, Michael Jergensen.
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the Emmaus Road Podcast. I want to start by giving a huge shout out to David Jergensen. He's my son, and he's the producer of this podcast. I've been totally overwhelmed by the response, and much of it has to do with his technical expertise. So thank you, David. I want to start by looking at a scripture in Philippians chapter 2. It says, Have this mind among yourselves, which you have in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but he emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men, and being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father. That is an amazing truth. It is so contrary to how the world thinks and how the world believes. My guess is that when you hear the name Jesus, it's more used as a swear word than it is to glorify the God of heaven and earth. It is a truth that is absolutely transformational in your life. And what do we see here? That he humbled himself. And that is contrary to human nature because human nature wants to exalt itself. It wants to say, Me first, look at me, worship me. And we become transformed as we look at Jesus and we worship him. He took on the form of a servant. We must take on the form of a servant. If we are to grow in grace and grow into the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ, Ephesians four says that the truth is in Jesus. And John said in John 1 that he appeared before them full of grace and truth. And so to become Christ-like, we have to look at Jesus and allow our image of ourselves to be changed into his likeness. I wanted to look at another verse here in Isaiah 55. It says, Ho, hey, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters, and he who has no money, come buy and eat. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Hearken diligently to me and eat what is good, and delight yourself in fatness. Incline your ear and come to me, hear that your soul may live, and I will make with you an everlasting covenant my steadfast, sure love for David. God offers us life in the Son. And in some sense it's very simple. Are you willing to surrender your life to Him and let Him live out His life in you, or do you insist on living your life doing what you want apart from Him? There is no middle ground. There is no, I'm gonna live for Christ and I'm gonna live for myself too. There is a sacrifice that is required, and Jesus made that sacrifice. Here's another verse in Philippians 2, just on the heels of what we read earlier about Jesus. Paul says, To work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for God is at work in you both to will and to do his good pleasure. There is our part to play in the Christian life. God will do his part. We must do our part. God will not do your part. And so let me encourage you today to grow in your faith, to seek God while he may be found, to call upon him while he is near. Lord, I just pray that you will speak to everyone in the hearing of this podcast that they can seek your face and grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
