Welcome to Emmaus Road. May our hearts burn within us as the Holy Spirit opens up the scriptures to us today. I have uh a passage of scripture that I'm going to look at today, and I'm going to call this episode All Things, and I think you'll see why when I get done. In the uh header of my Bible, it says that this is the supremacy of Christ. And this passage of scripture comes from Colossians. It's one that I think in the past I tended to skip over. Um, and then I became aware of the significance of it, but it was one that I really didn't for some reason want to meditate on. And at this point, it's like this ought to be the next portion of scripture that I attempt to memorize. So let's jump into it. It says that he, and we're speaking here about Jesus, he is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him all things were created in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities, all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church, he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross. I think we get an image of Jesus here. I would say pre-incarnation, the creator of all things, all things being created for him. I don't think that there's anything that's left out in the all things. He's before all things. In him, all things hold together. The head of the church, he is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead. He is preeminent. In him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell. And he came to reconcile all things to himself, whether in heaven or on earth, making peace by the blood of his cross. Can you think for a second about what it means to reconcile? Reconciliation, it's kind of an accountant's term. You balance your books, uh, your income, and your expenses balance, and everything uh comes into agreement. And what's wrong with this world today is that uh the vast majority of people on earth are in rebellion against God, whether they know it or not, and the need is for mankind to be reconciled to God. And Jesus came, uh, John 3 says, that the world might be saved through him. And salvation from God's point of view is to have us reconciled to him, for us to come to agreement, for us to uh have the same view about things. God is not going to change and become like us. We have to change and become like him.
