Welcome to Constructive Mentoring, the podcast built for project delivery teams, the engineers, project managers, and site leaders in the trenches of Australian construction. For many years I've thought that we can do better in construction, and that we can definitely do much better in the way that we mentor and train the project teams of the future. That's why I asked constructive mentoring. If you've just finished university and you're looking for your first construction role, maybe you've just finished your first site induction on a busy site, but you've realized that 80% of what actually makes or breaks a project was never taught in university or in the textbooks. If that's you, you're in the right place. And I won't forget about those of you with more experience and a yearning to improve your skills. I plan to pass on plenty of hard won experience and knowledge along the way for you as well. And who knows, perhaps along the way I might let you know about some of those times that things just didn't go quite right on site. Throughout my career I've worked in commercial building, civil infrastructure, road and rail projects across Australia and New Zealand. Always in site delivery though. And while the way we do things has changed in that time, the fundamentals of project delivery are still the same. And I've seen firsthand how high pressure site environments, tight timelines, complex variations, high risk work tests even the sharpest engineers and project management people. Constructive mentoring has been created to bridge the gap. This show isn't about dry theory or corporate buzzwords. It's about the unwritten rules of Australian project delivery, the commercial acumen, site leadership, and career strategies you will need to thrive, step up to project leadership and keep your sanity along the way. No project should start without a good plan, and this podcast is no different. To give you an idea of where we're heading, here's a preview of what's coming up in our first few episodes. In episode two, we'll be having a look at trying to get your first role in construction in Australia, looking at what the typical roles do and the experience you'll need to fill them. In episode three, we're tackling commercial acumen and contract delivery, looking at forms of contracts including alliance, design and construct, construction management, and a handful of others that are floating around in the wild. And we will look at how project teams can handle variations and claims without destroying client relationships. In episode four, we dive into high stress operations, specifically surviving tight timelines, shutdowns, time limited access opportunities, and managing high stakes logistics under continuous twenty four seven pressure. In episode five, we'll talk about site culture, what superintendents and plant operators wish the project team knew, and especially what the project engineers know, and how to build genuine respect with site crews. And in episode six, we're going to sit down for a deep dive on career trajectory, lessons learned on the path from site engineer all the way to project director. But projects are about delivering an outcome for the client, so I'm looking for you, my clients, to reach out to me with ideas and topics for future podcasts.
