Alright, uh welcome to the North of Somewhite podcast. It's 2026. I think you know what a podcast is. Uh I don't have to explain that. But what is this podcast? Well, there will be a guest in the future episodes. This is just the intro episode. And yeah, in some ways, this was kind of always the like the natural evolution of what the newsletter was and will still be. The newsletter is not over. But yeah, the newsletter has always been like a place for me to sort of like one-directionally put my thoughts and share ideas about urbanism or you know, like local Prince George politics. And that's working really well. I'm happy with that. Uh, it's really nice. But there are times when I think some issues or things that are going on in Prince George may be best served, A, as a conversation, so uh a back and forth, and then B a little bit more long form. Like there are times when I've really struggled to like condense uh thoughts into you know something that people can read while they're drinking coffee at work. And so, yeah, the reason we all listen to podcasts, the reason I love podcasts, is they just kind of provide a stage to hash out some of those more complicated ideas. As we all know, like we are now heading into the election season here in Prince George, uh, which kind of demands that like longer form, more thorough space to talk about um the election and the things that are going on. And so, yeah, I'll tell you first like what my vision for the podcast is, and then kind of tell you what the podcast isn't, if that makes sense. So, what the podcast is. This is gonna be like a friendly podcast for me to invite people on that I think are interesting in sort of the context of the content of the newsletter. So urbanism or um yeah, just like more progressive city building uh ideas, things that feel different. And I think it's worth mentioning that isn't just candidates. Like I don't quite have the full roster in my head, but the ideal version of this podcast is it's gonna be a mix. You know, I hope to talk to candidates about the election that I find interesting, but I also want to bring in people who I think can uh expand the conversation or focus the conversation uh in ways that are helpful or useful. So that's what the podcast is. What the podcast isn't, and the best way I can frame that is that there will be no like debate me bro energy uh on this podcast. I I find that stuff really cringe to listen to. I have to imagine like most of my audience feels the same way. This is not gonna be a place for me to like invite on people who are just like super unfriendly to the core content of North of Somewhere, uh, and then just try to like you know hammer them with like we shouldn't kill homeless people or or whatever. Um, so if if that's what you're hoping this is, or like you know, if you're gonna go to the comments and be like, invite on this person because they said something crazy, I just don't have the interest or energy in that. I don't think that's useful. Um so think of it more as like a place for interesting conversation to happen, uh, and less of a place for like an arena of ideas to be battled out. Um, so you're not gonna like see me inviting on every candidate, just the ones I'm interested in. Uh, you're not gonna see me like inviting on, you know, people to try to like prove them wrong or you know, put their arguments on blast. I just don't think that's helpful, and I don't really feel like contributing to that. I think that's it. I mean, this was already probably longer than I thought it would be, and that's I guess that's kind of the point. Subscribe now. I hate kind of self-hawking myself or self-selling, is that a word? Um, but yeah, I mean, like I I hope I hope this is a a lively feed. I hope there are listeners. You know, I'm I'm just really excited about this. Uh, it's been coming for a long time. I think I probably wrote that I was thinking about doing this back in 2023 for the first time, which is hilarious. Um, I see it going on past the election, so don't just think this is like gonna happen then be over. And uh yeah, yeah, get subscribed and uh I hope you enjoy what's to come.
