Thinking Out Loud with Yifeng is a podcast about whatever happens to be on my mind——school, books, movies, debate, games, swimming, big questions, random ideas, and everyday life. I'm Yifeng, and this is where I think out loud.

Why Did I Hate Them?

Have you ever disliked someone the moment you met them for no real reason?
During a debate tournament, I did. But the angrier I got, the harder it became to actually debate.
So why did I hate them in the first place?
Have a question. Have you ever met one of those teammates that you kind of don't like? And also, have you ever met a person that you're debating or in an argument or someone when you see them, you just don't feel right about them. You just have a grudge against this person that you never met or you didn't know for like more than two minutes. Well, that's what I had. In the in the debate tournament today, I met my one of my opponents. I thought they were naive to say the least. Because I'm not doing anything, okay, but they just somehow looked wrong. They just looked wrong to me, okay? I don't know what to say, but they just looked wrong. And the second they stepped up and they're like, you need to take your time, mean we're gonna win, we have won so many competitions, and started to brag, I just hated them more. And when I made a small mistake and they laughed on it, this is why I used my grand weapon. I ended up pelting them because for some reason I just hated those two. The people I was debating in the tournament. I just hated them. I don't know why, I just felt I have a grudge against them. They looked wrong, they grew wrong, their body shape. I don't know. Everything is just wrong for some reason. I don't know what. They just are wrong because they exist. You know, I'm not saying I'm correct, just that it's a feeling I have. And when I do have that feeling in debate, I'm really mad. Okay, I get really mad. And when I get really mad, I don't do really that well. So when I wasn't at the bait round, actually, I actually didn't end up winning. More likely due to my opponents just being absolute braggers, but not actually being good at the bait. They talked about why fossil fuel kinda s is kind is kinda sucks. That's what they said. It's kinda sucks. Like risk it for the biscuits. So we're in the official tournament, and your first word is risk it for the biscuits. Fossil fuel kinda sucks. And fossil fuel now is great. Fossil fuel is the future. We don't need green energy, we want the world to die. Oh never mind. It's actually, yeah, we want the world to be living, to be living. Yes, that's what they said. And the second they said, um, I want fossil fuel to help people live. The second I hit that word, I just hated them even more. And I argued, also, I had the feeling that you probably have when you know something's correct, but you just can't say get it out. Like you had so many, I had so many things I wanted to tell him that he's wrong that I just couldn't get out. And the only thing I could do at that point was to yeah him, but you know that not that's not really nice, and I probably end up uh losing, so yeah. The second thing is not laughing at me. I really, really for end want to chop kick them down, but I couldn't. I wandered around, I was really happy about it. But five minutes later, right now, I kind of felt bad. I mean, I didn't do anything, yeah. I was pretty mean to them, but like after that round, the second they're not in my sights, I just felt bad. I don't know what, but I just felt bad. It's strange, I guess. I just felt really bad for them. And I'm not gonna say sorry, but like it's a really, really weird feeling. I hated them for absolutely no reason, and I kind of feel sad. Also for no reason. It's weird, I'm not gonna say it's correct, but it is dang weird. I just don't get it. If you have ever had that feeling, I don't think 90% people do have it, but if you do, this is what I want to say about it. It's really weird, okay? And my partner, well, good about that. He kind of got some hate from me also for agreeing with my opponents about fossil fuels the future, and that 60 years is a long time. I mean, my opponents literally argued that 60 years is a long time to live. But they said fossil fuels went out in 60 years, but then that's fine. Well, I really wanted to pelt them. I had so many things to say, they were wrong, but I just couldn't get them out. I mean I absolutely crushed them still, but I just couldn't get that stuff out, you know? It's really weird. I'm generally kind of off with that experience. I don't know what to say actually. I for the entire day after that just felt like I was getting held back for no reason. I mean, like what? I don't understand it, but if you have ever felt that feeling, well, think about at that point when you have that feeling. Is it right or wrong? And also why do you hate them? Because no one hates someone or just holds a grudge against them for no reason.
