We are. Good morning, good afternoon, good evening, wherever you are. I'm the Bonnie D. The, so nobody mistakes me with somebody else. There you go. It's August 25th. Where is the month of the year going? It's almost Labor Day back to school time. Let's see what she has to share with us today. I think we have some foists. You know what foists are. There's something that happens first. She's still hiding in the woods. Only going to be about 98 today, so not so hot. Marby milestones, foists. Matthew Webb, 1875, is the first known person to successfully swim across the English Channel. Glad he made it. In 1958, Chicken Ramen in Japan debuted Mass Market Instant Ramen. Have you had yours today? 1975 Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run debut 1976 Boston's self-title album. What else Boston? Paul Simon's Graceland, Metallica's and Justice for All and the Miseducation of Lauren Hill. And you know whose album that was. There you go. The zipper. What do you think about the zipper? Well, in 1851, Elias Howe's automatic continuous clothing closure debuted. And then in 1983, well, I mean this must be 1893. Whitcomb Judson's clasp locker was at the World's Fair in Chicago. What was the problem with zippers? They were expensive to produce, they were unreliable, they were different from buttons and other fasteners, and people said, No, we're not going to use them. 1893, Lewis Walker's Universal Fastener Company became Talon. We know the Talon zipper in 1937. In 1906, Gideon Sunback's modern zipper, spoiler teeth, more of them. He had a slider and he developed a machine to make them. And the U.S. military used those on the uniforms for the soldiers in World War I. In 1934, YKK, that's not Y2K, 7 billion zippers a year. This is Yoshida in Kiribi, Japan. They make over 40% of the world zippers. And in 2017, Talon unzipped a 3.1 mile zipper. What? At the W Hotel in Hollywood. Now Talon specializes in zippers for denim. Does your zipper say YKK? Take a look. There we go. And let's go to our faded sign and all. This was apparently the world's first motel. It hits the market on California's Central Coast. It's for sale, but we don't know the price yet. I'll let you know when I know. It's called the Milestone Motel, developed by an architect named Arthur Heinmann and later renamed the motel in. It debuted, opened in 1925. It was a novelty. You didn't have to walk blocks from the parking lot or the back street to get to the hotel. You could drive right up to the door of the room and sleep. It was $1.25 a night. What? That'd be $24 today. What? They held 160 people. They had carpeting and showers. This was a big deal. What happened? The painter couldn't fit milestone motor hotel. So the word motel was squished together, and that's what he or she painted. It's a 4.2 acre property, mission style. It has a bell tower, original lobby, and the sign is faded, but it's there. Clint Eastwood, Lucille Ball, and Bob Hope stopped there at some point. And in 1954, Marilyn Monroe and her new husband Joe DiMaggio had lunch there. There was a restaurant on their honeymoon. It's closed now, but it is for sale. I'll let you know. And now let's do some birthdays. Sean Connery, Bond, James Bond. I'll just say Bonnie D, the Bonnie D. Double O seven times seven. Seven movies he did. 1930, born today. Regis Philbin, born today in 1931, the host, TV host, the most TV hours of anybody, apparently, according to Guinness. Gene Simmons, alive and well, the rock musician who co-founded Kiss. There's a picture of their latest poster down there. He's 77. Elvis Costello, pop musician. He co-wrote Veronica with Paul McCartney. I didn't know that. He's 72. Tim Burton. Oh, so many movies. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Edward Scissors Hand, he's 68. Billy Day Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus. We know whose dad he is. Country singer, Aiky Breaky Heart, 65. And Blair Underwood, the actor who was Jonathan Rollins on LA Law. Bob, Banana Split Day, Whiskey Sour Day. Nothing for dinner, let me know. Kiss and makeup day. I don't have to kiss and make up anybody, but I might kiss somebody. Secondhand wardrobe day. There you go. And there's a picture of a whiskey sour. I used to drink those. They always let me with a funny feeling in my teeth. Let's go back to let's go back to our music and let's see what we've got here and let's go out with our shout-outs. And I know Kathy likes the full music, so we're just gonna do the Oh, we gotta go. You know what? We lost our uh we lost our audio share. Let's go back to more. Here we go. There we go. Okay, gotta pay my engineer more. Oh, that's me. Okay. Amos Lee and Jake Joseph. Hunts of kisses. Teresa G. Hope your dad is doing better. I know he's in the ICU. Sending prayers. Dr. Bob, what's for dinner? Charles Brainfield, Enigma Books, The Reckoning. You reckon? Terry Meyer and Luca. Mary Natalie and Eli. Philippi and Joe. Feel well. Kathy M on my block. Taking good care of the neighborhood. Karen Gibson and artist Serena Gibson Brita. Beautiful work. Kathy and Jennifer Davis in New York hugs. Carol Odis. Hugs Dan Girl, hugs Deborah Mala, hugs. Sending the hugs to everybody I know. And love. I'll see you tomorrow. Bye bye. It's for you.
