00:04:42.240 --> 00:04:49.680 What could cause Jesus to actually be tempted enough from abandoning his mission to redeem his people? 00:04:52.399 --> 00:04:55.680 In 1962, my dad was a freshman. 00:04:55.839 --> 00:05:00.240 My dad's here today, because he's displaced as well from the fires. 00:05:00.720 --> 00:05:05.759 He was a freshman at the Segap fraternity at Washington State University. 00:05:06.560 --> 00:05:13.759 During Hell Week, the chapter members would make a huge batch of what is known as muck stew. 00:05:14.480 --> 00:05:17.120 The stew had anything and everything in it. 00:05:17.279 --> 00:05:25.519 All day long, members would add ingredients to this stew, culminating in a brownish, green, yellowish sludge. 00:05:26.319 --> 00:05:28.560 Who knows what they put in there? 00:16:18.480 --> 00:16:23.120 We need to get that second Adam in the second garden to triumph. 00:16:23.200 --> 00:16:27.120 And so we come to Jesus, the God man, in the second garden. 00:16:27.440 --> 00:16:33.039 Our text says he came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. 00:16:33.200 --> 00:16:44.639 We're going to spend a little bit of time in the second garden because I think it's the most important garden, not only because it's from our text today, but it's the most important garden in the Bible and in the history of mankind. 00:16:47.120 --> 00:16:49.759 This is where the passion of Jesus starts. 00:16:50.159 --> 00:16:52.559 Right here in this garden. 00:16:52.960 --> 00:17:01.120 And it's because of this garden experience that we have a chance to get back to that original garden that we so desperately desire. 00:17:01.679 --> 00:17:05.279 Now, our text doesn't say he's in the garden of Gethsemane, it says the Mount of Olives. 00:17:05.440 --> 00:17:07.759 This is really easy to clear up, right? 00:17:08.319 --> 00:17:11.119 Within the Mount of Olives is the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:17:11.279 --> 00:17:14.960 Other gospel writers say that he was in the Garden of Gethsemane. 00:17:15.039 --> 00:17:18.480 It's like the Rose Garden or the Duncan Gardens are within Manitou Park. 00:17:18.640 --> 00:17:21.039 So yes, we are in a garden. 00:17:21.200 --> 00:17:22.720 You just have to believe me. 00:17:23.759 --> 00:17:25.440 This is the second garden. 00:17:25.519 --> 00:17:32.160 And it's the location of the temptation that Jesus has to surrender to, the plans his father has for him. 00:17:33.279 --> 00:17:40.720 You know, in verse 37, this is right before our passage, Jesus mentions to his disciples this very thing. 00:17:40.880 --> 00:17:45.119 He says, For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me. 00:17:45.279 --> 00:17:52.559 And he quotes this, and he was numbered with the transgressors, for what is written about me has its fulfillment. 00:17:53.039 --> 00:17:57.599 Jesus has just said, guys, I'm gonna die. 00:17:59.680 --> 00:18:03.039 But all of a sudden there's a dramatic shift in the countenance of Jesus. 00:18:03.440 --> 00:18:04.880 It's kind of odd, don't you think?
