For years he said nothing. Then he skipped the courtroom. Then Russia. Then Dubai. Then a Dutch cell. On September 7, 2026, his lawyer told an Amsterdam Appeal Court the silence is over. Quincy Promess, former Netherlands International, IJAX, Spartak Moscow. For the first time, he has given a detailed account of his alleged role in a 2020 cocaine operation out of Antwerp. That statement does not wipe the conviction. It is material. The appeal court will weigh it in late November and early December. Until then, hold the stacks apart. One stack is football, one stack is Porto, one stack is a stabbing at a family party. One stack is a cousin named Mary Leo V. Name Quincy Promess, born january fourth, nineteen ninety two, Amsterdam, Afro Surinamese parents, Youth Path through Ijax, released at 16 for behavioral issues, then Harlem Twente. Senior highlights the brief names Spartak Moscow Russian League Title 2017, Russian Footballer of the Year, League Top Scorer, Sevilla, a return to Ijax, another Spartak spell, a late stint with Dubai United, fifty caps, seven goals for the Netherlands, including the twenty nineteen Nations League. The career effectively ended with Extradition. That is the football stack. It is not a defense. It is why the caption always leads with the jersey. Late January 2020, two cocaine loads, about 1.36 tons total, hidden in bags of sea salt on a container ship from Brazil that docked in Antwerp. Traffickers extracted roughly six hundred fifty kilos. Belgian customs intercepted seven hundred twelve point eight kilos. Hold those two numbers. Extracted, intercepted. Same ship, same hide, different outcomes. Dutch prosecutors, investigation porto, say Promess played a directing, coordinating, and financing role. They say he invested around 75,000 euros. They say he instructed extractors who traveled from Amsterdam to Antwerp. They say he coordinated on encrypted Sky ECC chats under the handle Phantasma. One message attributed to him after the seizure complained that his whole profit was cut in half. Prosecutors have valued the successful 650 kilo load in the tens of millions of euros on the street. They are separately seeking to confiscate 8 million euros from Promess as alleged proceeds. That figure tracks his own earlier numbers of twenty nine thousand to thirty three thousand euros per block, minus costs. They seek sixty two thousand euros from Mary Leo V. That is the prosecutor stack, say it that way. February twenty twenty four, Amsterdam District Court. Promess convicted in absentia, six years. Prosecutors had asked for nine. The court found the Sky ECC attribution, cell tower data near his then home in Amsterdam Zuid, and matching international travel, Paris, Paphos, Dubai, enough to identify him as Phantasma. Other Sky users also linked the account to him. He was not in the room for that judgment. He was still outside the Dutch reach. The six years is what the first court wrote, not what the appeal has finished. Mary Leo V, also referred to as Mary Leo Vink, a cousin of Surinamese origin, convicted alongside Promess, first instant sentence also six years, on appeal in March 2026, reduced to three years and eight months. He had a prior Belgian conviction, four years, for an 882 kilo cocaine import in 2019. Courts described his role in the Porto matter as supporting rather than leading. Promess's new June statement is why the appeal court wants Mary Leo questioned again in November. Two men, one family line, two different sentence tracks after appeal work already started. Do not fuse them into one name. 2020. Promess stabbed a relative in the knee, convicted in 2023 of aggravated assault. 18 months. He missed that trial too. March 2026. After switching to lawyers, Girt Jan Knoops and Carrie Knoops, he admitted the stabbing. He framed it as a chaotic fight over stolen family jewelry, a small pocket knife, a possible self-defense argument. At that point, he still denied any criminal role in the drugs case. The two cases are now being heard together. Assault is not Porto. Porto is not the knee. The calendar fused them. The facts did not. After the convictions, Promess stayed in Russia with Spartak Moscow. The Netherlands and Russia have no extradition treaty. That is a treaty fact, not a loophole speech. He later moved to the UAE and played for Dubai United. After a traffic incident, he was detained in March 2024. The Netherlands requested extradition. He was returned on june twentieth, 2025. Dutch custody since. Multiple requests for release pending appeal denied. Flight risk. He has now been detained for well over a year. He thought distance was a strategy. Distance ended on a Dutch transport. Promess previously denied everything. He skipped first instance hearings. Football commitments was the public reason. His lawyers have said he lost trust in Dutch justice, felt portrayed as a heavy criminal, cited harsh treatment during his UAE detention, including alleged hooded questioning. He also reportedly believed he was on a hit list after returning to the Netherlands. June twenty twenty six a full day interview.
