UnpauseIt is now MENOPAUSEIT, a podcast about menopausal women doing the nerd's work.
MenopauseIt highlights menopausal women (at any stage of menopause, be it pre-, post-, or actual) working in the gaming and/or science fiction entertainment industries. Whether in front of or behind the camera, these women make nerdy things we all love, and all while navigating what can accurately be described as a seismic shift in their biology.
If you're a menopausal woman, a gaming fan, a sci-fan fan, or just a general nerd, this podcast is for you.

Yeah, we're on our way a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Grab us an ice cream before you come home.
SPEAKER_02Probably not. Worth a try though, I guess. Good try. Hey, you know. I'll go of course for a cookie too. You know, you have a car and a bank account.
SPEAKER_00This is true. However, you owe me $1.43 because the $20 you gave me did not make any case.
SPEAKER_02Hey, hey, grab $2 of quarters from the shelf in the cup and we'll call it square. Or while you're out, you could spend like a ton of time getting a cookie.
SPEAKER_00Probably someone worked there still and they could have free cookies. Well, I would still not be able to get free cookies, or or whoever worked there wouldn't be able to.
SPEAKER_01Zeus was in the movie.
SPEAKER_02Zeus. Zeus?
SPEAKER_01Zeus!
SPEAKER_02Wait, like the voice actor, or just like the voice actor Zeus popped up.
SPEAKER_00Well, okay. Now I regret not going because I love it. It's already.
SPEAKER_02Alright. We are recording a podcast now, Willis. You are now a part of the podcast. Podcast. In the movie Star Wars, any Star Wars movie, the person who plays the force is Chuck Norris. And the second thing is I want a cookie.
SPEAKER_00Let me get too sound noted.
SPEAKER_01Chuck Norris is just recording the street.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it's been recording since well into the phone call. That is exciting. Yeah. Alright, well, uh, you are listening to the uh the car ride home. And we have Jeremiah, we have myself, Rachel, and Georgia is also in the car. She's our our teenage daughter. And we just saw she's unmiked, but she may she may express herself. Um, very loud. We just came out of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles uh Mutant Mayhem.
SPEAKER_02Yes, mutant mayhem. Seth Rogan joint and a bunch of other people. Uh giving it my initial because we're not gonna have a long podcast this time. Um initial thoughts right away are it was uh better than expected. Not as funny as I was expecting, though.
SPEAKER_00Really? I was laughing a ton.
SPEAKER_02I was expecting a little bit more like wall the wall just with funny humor. What I got was just a good movie. So, you know, I mean you know, take one with the other.
SPEAKER_01There were two attack on Titan references. Yes. Oh my goodness.
SPEAKER_00So George's face lit up with Attack on Titan Reference. I thought they did a great job of really you get these are teenage boys. It was like, because even like with them and the the smartphones and their bunks, and like going, you know, going in the school and be like, oh my god, I totally have to sign up for improv club, and that the humor was great, and they riffed on that quite a bit. So these are people I know that's right, myself, and that says something. Yeah, Georgia said there's these are people she knows and from high school pretty much.
SPEAKER_02A couple of things I stand at right away is uh Jackie Chan voicing uh Master Splinter who uh whose English is spot on at the moment now. Like, wow. Um talk about someone who's really worked on it too. And what they did, there was a Master Splinter fight. This is all full spoilers, by the way. We'll do that at the beginning. It's like this is not for the eight people that have listened to probably listen to this, uh, full spoilers. It's a choreographed Master Splinter fight that's a Jackie Chan fight. Yes, he's totally doing the Jackie Chan moves, he's uh using the environment around him, it's funny, but it's more action than fun, like funny, like humor. It's it's it was really well done.
SPEAKER_00The uh and the animation style is interesting because it's it looks it's definitely like it's animated but kind of sketch and kind of graffiti, it's really cool, yeah. And you know, you notice that right out the gate with the like the paramount or um opening. Yeah, but it was really good. Um, I don't know. Uh I am trying to think too. Like I I did definitely, I'm looking, we're looking up like voices of people too. I think you'll recognize a lot. Oh, let's talk about the soundtrack.
SPEAKER_02Soundtrack is banging banging soundtrack. Uh unlike uh Transformers Beast thingies, um this is a bangin' soundtrack with a really good movie.
SPEAKER_01Now that was an okay movie with an epic soundtrack. Right. Yeah. They kind of equal out.
SPEAKER_02They kind of do. But two movies this summer with some banger killer soundtracks. It was awesome. Um contemporary, classic, you know, hip-hop, pop music, uh He-Man song. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I don't know what it's called. I just know it's a He-Man song.
SPEAKER_02Right. Um, just totally a fun ride. Uh start to finish. It didn't feel a little slow um or long in the tooth. It felt like it was the right length.
SPEAKER_00Like right pacing as well. And I thought, yeah, I thought they did a really good job writing it, and then um, I mean, and they have a montage in there, which of course you always have to have a montage in an action movie. Even Rocky had a montage. Um, but uh yeah, it was great. I loved um I love that the you know the character development on All Four Turtles. They did a great job, I thought, doing the backstory and exposition. I mean they they weave it right into the story, like and and oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_02Like they make a joke about it too, so they make a meta-style joke about it.
SPEAKER_00And also, as parents, there's so much to relate to in that. Like he's like, fine, I tell you the long version.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's a punishment. It was like, mm-hmm, that's right.
SPEAKER_02So that was, I mean, it was funny, but I think it was more of a good movie than it was a funny movie. That's that was my point from earlier.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was it was really good.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, having popcorn in my throat causing me to cough, uh, you know, no stars for that. Uh but having April O'Neill as what was your thought about having April O'Neal as a high schooler, not a professional reporter?
SPEAKER_00Well, I liked it because I mean you could tell they're obviously kind of ushering in, you know, this is the the universe they're working in. So you've got the k you know, the the turtles are ninja, but they've never fought before. So they're kind of on their this is like them getting started into into crime fighting, and then it makes sense like to say, okay, well, they're teenagers and she is too. I mean, maybe they're kind of growing up together and they're you know, I I liked that whole thing.
SPEAKER_02I totally like that. I like it too. Yeah, I think it's better to have a teenage human high school reporter along teenage mutant ninja turtles.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's kind of creepy when she's an adult.
SPEAKER_00That's just yeah, because she's hanging out with teenage, you know, they're turtles, but they are teenagers, so it was scary.
SPEAKER_02It was pedophilia basically.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
SPEAKER_02So I am not a huge turtle lore fan. I was aging out of it when it kind of hit its peak, so I was kind of like beyond that in, you know, I was in high school basically when it hit its peak. Um, I was aware of it. Casey Jones. Yeah. There's a bunch of turtle fans, turtle heads, that are out there, um, who love Casey Jones. We saw how many Casey Jones cosplayers at Comic Denver Comic-Con thing this year? Five or six? He's the hockey player, he's got where there's a hockey mask vigilante guy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he's like a human human uh yeah, vigilante crime fighter.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah. You know, so not being in there, obviously you know, the end credit scene, or the end credit scene or whatever, just Dakota, I think what we would call that, um is setting up Shredder.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Who's gonna voice Shredder?
SPEAKER_01It could be anyone. They have Mr. Beast and Alex Hurley.
SPEAKER_02Right. Yeah, so stats cast, but you know, just real quick, because we're on our way home. I want to get this in here. Who do you fancast? This is fan casting now, uh the voice of Shredder. Who?
SPEAKER_01Um, Christopher Judge, obviously. Oh man. Christopher Judge.
SPEAKER_02What they would do though, being Seth Rogan and the comedy uh troupe around them.
SPEAKER_01It's not Christopher Judge.
SPEAKER_02It'll be like Michael Serra or something. They'll just have a voice like, hey man.
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I know I'm like, I can't think it should be Owen Wilson. Wow. Wow. Um do we have ratings? Do y'all want to rate it?
SPEAKER_02Let's rate it before we get too close to home. At least eight what? Eight units of measure.
SPEAKER_01Uh pizza, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Eight slices of pizza from Georgia for her rating.
SPEAKER_00Yes, eight out of ten.
SPEAKER_02Eight out of ten. This is all out of ten. What about you?
SPEAKER_00Um. Alright, I'm thinking of my rating, and I'm also trying to think of like a unit of measure.
SPEAKER_02I think I'm also gonna get an eight. Eight out of ten on-camera pukes.
SPEAKER_00Ah, you stole mine, dude. Ha ha ha!
SPEAKER_02You can have it too long time, right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's fine. I gotta think of something else now. Um You're too slow. Uh I'm gonna s I'm gonna say, I'll say eight and a half out of ten um mutant animal appendages.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, because that'll be well. Yeah, that was that was that part of the movie. I'm like, I'm like, whoa.
SPEAKER_02Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
SPEAKER_00Which somebody's with a direct quote.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, um anyways.
SPEAKER_00Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Moving on to now, a little segment we like to call Who's your favorite turtle?
SPEAKER_01Oh Rath, obviously.
SPEAKER_02Because of the rage. Yeah, but he is better. But you identify with Donatello, though. Oh, Donnie and you.
SPEAKER_01Donnie and you are like person, but I like Raphael then.
SPEAKER_02So, okay, there you go. Who's your favorite turtle and who's the turtle that you are? So for Georgia loves Raf. And she is Donatello.
SPEAKER_01That is true. Very accurate.
SPEAKER_00I am Leonardo.
SPEAKER_02You wish.
SPEAKER_00And I I I like Leonardo.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_00Wow, wow, wow. Wow, I know. I'm not very exciting, but there you go. But you are Raf.
SPEAKER_01I am Raf. Out of them, you are Raf.
SPEAKER_02I've always liked Mikey.
SPEAKER_01That's that's Willis. Willis is Mikey, and he likes Mikey.
SPEAKER_02And he is.
SPEAKER_01Just one.
SPEAKER_02Exactly. But really, you're splinter. What are your thoughts about Roxetti and Bebop not being Shredder henchmen?
SPEAKER_00Um, I again I not too truly invested in the lore, y'all. The last time I saw or had any Teenage McNinja Turtles in my life was seeing the movie from the 80s. No, we did play the Teenage McNinja Turtles.
SPEAKER_01But she didn't play with the video game.
SPEAKER_02I didn't play it.
SPEAKER_01Oh that you should have played it. No, no, because she's bad.
SPEAKER_02I know. Oh, Rock's any peep up for bad guys in that game and in the main lore. Okay.
SPEAKER_01You know, I I I liked it. I liked her I like that they vibe. I like that they were just chill.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I I did not particularly care for Master Splinter just being a rat turned into a you know mutant rat. I did like from what I remember of like the Okar Tunes where he was a dude, he was a Kung Fu dude basically turned into a rat. Because he got mixed with a rat with the ooze.
SPEAKER_01I kind of like the rat story better.
unknownYou know.
SPEAKER_02I bet you I'm in the minority, for sure.
SPEAKER_00I like um I like that they the way they learned um kung fu was basically through the internet.
SPEAKER_01That's so real.
SPEAKER_00That was that was so real. I they did. They and they it's definitely it's YouTube it basics for you. Yeah, but it's all time too. I mean, there's there's so many references that are so current in the now, and so I they really didn't surprise by the Attack on Titan references because there's genocide in that.
SPEAKER_02Yes, it's like however, you know, I've never watched it, so I don't really know. Um, and that's just the way it is. The uh what did you guys think about like this and across the spider-verse using live action uh scenes and photos and pictures and things? Like all the YouTubes that they were watching were like YouTubes. Yeah, you know.
SPEAKER_00No, I liked it. I mean it No, that just makes sense.
SPEAKER_01It does.
SPEAKER_00I mean it's like okay, they're in our world, so they're seeing the same things we would we will see. We see.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, my comment on that why haven't they been doing that all the time? Yeah, because it's not animated? Like forget that.
SPEAKER_01It just doesn't work.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Super stormy over here.
SPEAKER_02Pretty good. So we all give it eights?
SPEAKER_00I did an 8.5.
SPEAKER_028.5. A little bit more, a little more great right there. So if you liked it just a little bit better than this, but an eight is you know pretty great. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_00It's very enjoyable. Like I I highly recommend seeing it. I do too. It's very fun. I think kids kids will find it fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Is it one of those set for a specific group of people? It's not a small group of people, but it's specific, I feel like.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, here's a shout-out to an old uh thing that we used to watch all the time, spill.com.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_02They would do animated reviews and stuff, like flash animations. And uh 15 years ago as well.
SPEAKER_00The only way we watched the Oscars was because they would like live listen to it.
SPEAKER_02And anyway, yeah. So we're always home, so I gotta go through this. They would have a different ratings, you know, some old VS, F this, or like you know, full price, yeah, matinee, rental.
SPEAKER_00That's right.
SPEAKER_02You know, they had that kind of thing. I kind of want to steal that a little bit. Uh, do you need to see this in theaters? I would say no. I would say it's a good experience. If you go with a bunch of people that have turtle lore and like are turtle fans, maybe. But I think like something at Oppenheimer and Barbie were like theater experiences, everyone was wearing pink, people were shouting at the you know, at the screen after monologues and things. This one was really good. If you have a good home theater system, or even a decent sound bar with a subwoofer, really would all you would need, yeah. Uh, and a way to watch it at home, you could wait and just crank up the bass and crank up the uh the soundtrack and have a good time.
SPEAKER_00It was very good times, but alright, well, teenage mutant ninja turtles, uh, we are pulling up to the curb. This has been the car ride home. And uh see you guys on the next time we're riding home from a movie.
SPEAKER_02Oh, quick before we go, uh, we didn't do a ride home on Beck because we were tired. It was like midnight because the show went long. It was awesome. There was a double rainbow, and if you see Beck anywhere is awesome, but Beck at Redbox is phenomenal.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, just if you have an opportunity to see Beck, just go see him. That's all. That's all you need to know.
SPEAKER_02And with that, we're out.
SPEAKER_00Okay, back
