Ep 017 The Texas Longhorn
Jul 01, 2019 Season 1 Episode 17
John Nelson and Debbie Davis

Beef!  Bar-B-Q! Texas!
Join us, as we visit with John and Debbie, two ranchers that raise the Texas Longhorn - a quintessentially American animal.  We felt that our visits to Colorado and New Mexico to see this awe-inspiring creature were a fantastic way to celebrate America's Independence Day.
This animal is the epitome of some of the issues that arise with heritage breeds.  It is one of the earliest agricultural animals brought to North America, and has experienced many of the same growing pains as the people who have come here.  The challenges it has overcome, strengths it has developed, and adaptions to changing conditions are in many ways a perfect reflection of America's people, and its development as a nation.
With their eyes on the past and the future, these ranchers discuss the history and evolution of the Texas Longhorn, and the place for this animal in today's market -- and tomorrow's, as well.
     Happy Fourth of July, America.
