Show Notes

It's summertime, and the San Diego County Fair just finished it's annual run here in Del Mar, California.  Since the event started with agricultural roots way back in 1880, and since we had a great conversation at the fair last year with The Friends of Farming bunch, we thought we would sit down with them for a podcast.
Eric Larson, Executive Director of the San Diego County Farm Bureau, was kind enough to have a conversation with us about the organizational purpose, and what they do to help farmers in San Diego.  We also talked about why the non-profit organization Friends of Farming developed out of the Farm Bureau, and some of the great educational tours of San Diego farms that are a part of their membership.
The research for this interview was pretty eye-opening to us.  San Diego is usually thought of as a hub for tourism, or biotech, or the military, or many other things, but agriculture?  Not what usually comes to mind.  And yet, our county is first in nursery plant production in the nation.  First in Avocados.  A national leader in certified organic growers.  $5 billion in economic value.  And more surprising numbers.  We hope this podcast is an eye opener, for locals and tourists alike.
