Show Notes

“Exotic” is a word that is relative.  In my case, that means the relatives in Belgium might think a D’Uccle bantam chicken is pretty normal, but to me here in California, it was more like seeing something from an African safari (Okay, we took a few liberties there, but the concept is sound).

Today’s podcast is with Tom Watkins, President of Murray McMurray Hatchery.  This company has been shipping chicks across the country for over 100 years now, and have the process down pat.  But what you might not know is that they also supply the “exotics” – things like pheasants, guineafowl, peafowl, quail and doves.  All of those may be common to some, more like an animal off the Serengheti to others, but interesting either way.  It’s chick season, so Tom Watkins is a pretty busy guy these days, and we appreciate his willingness to sit down with a Zoom chat with us to kick things off in both a standard (chickens) and exotic (we’ll let you decide) manner.

And all this, even without the phrase “Mail Order Free Exotic Chick.”  How’s that for a racy-sounding podcast?
