pastor in Riverdale, that his message was untrue. 00:03:53.120 --> 00:04:00.560 But I do think that there's something here because the man didn't lead me to fall in love with Jesus and choose Jesus. 00:04:58.639 --> 00:05:01.600 And so I want to say the same message, I just want to preach it differently. 00:05:01.759 --> 00:05:09.759 Because in this passage, Jesus describes God as someone who is a patient father pursuing people. 00:05:09.920 --> 00:05:10.959 That's how he describes him. 00:05:11.040 --> 00:05:16.879 He is the most patient father seeking to pursue people, not angrily chasing them down with condemnation. 00:05:17.120 --> 00:05:18.240 He's extremely patient. 00:05:18.480 --> 00:05:30.079 But then we also see what we invite into our lives if we choose to consistently reject the people that he sends to us and eventually reject the son that he sends to us. 00:05:30.160 --> 00:05:30.959 We see that as well. 00:05:31.120 --> 00:05:41.360 And so I want to take those one by one, um, looking at what Jesus describes God to be like, and then what he says is the outcome of those who actually reject the Son. 00:05:41.519 --> 00:05:47.360 And so the first thing that Jesus describes in this passage and in this parable is he describes the patient heart of God. 00:05:47.600 --> 00:05:49.199 This is verses two through five. 00:05:49.279 --> 00:05:56.879 He's talking about at harvest time, he sent a servant to the tenants who are renting from this farm, sent a servant to collect just some of the fruit. 00:05:56.959 --> 00:05:57.920 You can keep most of it. 00:05:58.000 crushing them, instead of trying to just threaten them and say things to him, he just keeps sending people into their lives, trying to get them to respond. 00:06:43.839 --> 00:06:46.000 He doesn't is painting a picture of what the story of Israel's history has been to this point. 00:07:03.519 --> 00:07:18.959 So God creates a garden, he creates a vineyard, and then he has people in it, and those people reject him, and then he has an starts over in a new garden with a new earth because the Lord swallows the earth in water, and then what Noah ends up creating is he plants a new garden. 00:07:19.040 --> 00:07:23.600 So you have another garden that he's starting over again, but then Noah's people actually turn against him as well. 00:07:23.680 --> 00:07:29.199 And then on and on and on, God is sending people to the people of Israel to try and get them to respond to him. 00:07:29.519 --> 00:07:32.800 And Jesus is saying, like, they just aren't doing that. 00:07:32.959 --> 00:07:40.879 And so he's painting the picture of what Israel has been so far, but it's not only what the way that God has been with Israel, it's also the way that God is with us. 00:07:41.040 --> 00:07:50.720 The way that God treats us and is with us about our salvation, he does not want any of us to miss out on the life that he actually has for you or for me. 00:07:50.800 --> 00:07:52.079 He patience of God because people started asking him, like, hey, Jesus said he was going to come back. 00:08:10.959 --> 00:08:14.000 And honestly, it's been a minute and he's still not back. 00:08:14.079 --> 00:08:15.920 And we're wondering why it is taking so long. 00:08:16.000 --> 00:08:22.240 And so Peter is responding to this and it's like, hey, Jesus is not slow in keeping his promise to return. 00:08:22.399 --> 00:08:24.079 Instead, he is being patient with you. 00:08:24.240 --> 00:08:28.160 He doesn't want anyone to perish, but he wants everyone to come to repentance. 00:08:28.240 --> 00:08:30.319 And so, why is it taking so long for Jesus to come back? 00:08:30.399 --> 00:08:32.320 It's like, because he's incredibly patient. 00:08:32.559 --> 00:08:33.919 He does not mind waiting. 00:08:34.080 --> 00:08:36.720 He longs for people, for anybody in the world. 00:08:36.879 --> 00:08:40.720 He longs for everybody in the world to actually respond to what he has for them. 00:08:40.799 that I heard when I was nine from the Riverdale pastor, which it really sounded like God wanted to burn some folks. 00:08:51.360 --> 00:08:55.679 And I was very, I was like, I gotta, I don't want you, but I also don't want that. 00:08:55.840 --> 00:09:03.120 But like what Jesus is presenting is like the patient pursuit of God for every single person in this room, for every single person in your life. 00:09:03.440 --> 00:09:05.120 God patiently pursues us. 00:09:05.279 --> 00:09:17.039 Even when we push him off, even when we run away, even when we ignore him, even when we're mean to the people that he sends to us with the message of his salvation, even when we reject it and we're cruel to them or whatever, like it doesn't matter. 00:09:17.200 --> 00:09:20.000 Even in the midst of all 00:10:01.840 Lewis at one point was an atheist and wanted nothing to do with God whatsoever, no desire to believe in God, no desire for any of those things. 00:10:02.000 --> 00:10:08.159 Grew up kind of in some type of faith, but walked away from it and was like, logic and reason and philosophy is the rest of it. 00:10:08.399 --> 00:10:19.440 And so what he says though, he's like, but there came this time where like God started chipping away at his thoughts and kind of getting in the middle of his life in ways that he didn't want him to. 00:10:19.519 --> 00:10:21.759 He describes God as the one that he never wanted to meet. 00:10:21.919 --> 00:10:25.919 He's like, You have to, you have to understand, I wanted to be left alone. 00:10:26.000 --> 00:10:28.559 Like, I did not want God to There were all these moves that God did to get him into checkmate and finally admit that he's God. 00:10:37.679 --> 00:10:39.919 And so he said the first move was C. 00:10:40.000 --> 00:10:40.080 S. 00:10:40.240 --> 00:10:43.360 Lewis noticed that there was this longing for beauty in his soul. 00:10:43.519 --> 00:10:48.240 And this longing for beauty and joy, and he just could not satisfy that anywhere else. 00:10:48.399 --> 00:11:00.320 And one of the things that he wrote, he says, When I he's like, if I find something in myself, a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that I was made for another world. 00:11:00.399 --> 00:11:08.399 And so he begins dealing with these things that he's going through, and God is uh like bringing stuff out in him, and he's going, I don't know how to satisfy this longing. 00:11:08.559 --> 00:11:18.480 There's not enough, there's not enough beautiful books in the world, there's not a beautiful mountains, like the the skies are beautiful, but I cannot, something out there is not satisfying the longings that I have in my heart. 00:11:18.559 --> 00:11:24.799 And so the probable explanation, the most logical one, is to go, maybe I'm made for a different world if I can't find anything in this world to satisfy it. 00:11:24.879 --> 00:11:26.080 So that was the first move. 00:11:26.320 --> seriously, and C. 00:11:44.559 --> 00:11:44.639 S. 00:11:44.720 --> 00:11:54.720 Lewis just really had a struggle with anybody like anybody who believes this is like there's no way that they're cerebral, logical, really knowledgeable people, brilliant intellectuals, like certainly not. 00:11:54.879 --> 00:11:59.440 And then he meets these people, and they're they they they take Christianity seriously, but they're brilliant in their own right. 00:11:59.600 --> 00:12:08.000 And so they would take walks together and discuss theology and they would discuss God and they would discuss Jesus, and that was another way of chipping away at some of the preconceived ideas that he had. 00:12:08.159 --> 00:12:18.240 And he says, then the third move was that he got to this point where he was like, just like, hey, I want to get you to shift and remove blinders slowly enough to where you eventually turn to me. 00:14:22.879 --> 00:14:26.240 The same was true with other people, uh, other brilliant invited into their lives, what they brought in by their own decision, they brought in death and loss. 00:25:41.519 --> 00:25:45.039 The father had been fighting to get them to avoid death and loss. continue to be patient. 00:26:06.000 --> 00:26:16.880 If there was constant, unending servants to send, unending sons to send, he would just consistently be patient enough to continue to send another person and another person and another person and another person. 00:26:16.960 --> 00:26:23.839 Because his heart is that somewhere, somewhere along the way, that you will respond to him and not 00:26:54.240 And so just as the people in the parable reject the Son and experience death and loss of what they could have had, because they could have had this vineyard, they could have had this
