through 14, which is this really incredible section of scripture where Paul, who's the author and probably the most influential Jesus follower of all time, lays out for us the blessings that God has What does it mean to live a blessed life? 00:02:05.519 --> 00:02:12.159 If you've been following Jesus for years, I'm so excited to go through this because sometimes as a Jesus follower, I've been follower, if this is something you're checking out, you're thinking about it, you're still not sure, I think it's really good for you on the front end to understand the blessings being offered to you and to make a decision based on that. 00:02:34.879 --> 00:02:46.240 We're going to start by looking at Ephesians chapter 1, verse 4, very next verse, and Paul writes, even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 00:02:46.479 --> 00:02:50.080 There's a lot there we could spend like a month on this one verse alone. 00:02:50.479 --> because that's a big deal. 00:03:02.879 --> 00:03:05.360 Every one of us knows what it's like to not be picked. 00:03:05.599 --> 00:03:10.560 Every one of us knows what it's like for someone to look at you and say, nah, we're gonna go with someone else. 00:03:10.719 --> 00:03:13.520 Whether that was a career thing, a romance thing, whatever. 00:03:13.599 --> 00:03:21.199 We all know how that feels, so it's pretty awesome to know that no matter who's passed you over before, God has looked at you and he says, Yes, I pick you. 00:03:21.840 --> 00:03:33.439 But as I prayed and prepared this week, it became really clear to me that we needed to put our attention on the second half of this verse, on what it says that we've actually been chosen to be. 00:03:33.680 --> 00:03:40.800 That God has loved us and he has chosen us to be holy and without fault in his eyes. 00:03:41.120 --> 00:03:44.879 So we have been blessed with holiness, and that's what we're gonna talk about today. 00:03:44.960 --> 00:03:48.479 What does it mean to be blessed with holiness? 00:03:48.719 --> 00:03:50.639 Like, what does it even mean to be holy? 00:03:50.800 --> 00:03:53.599 It's one of those words that we see in the Bible a lot, and we we sort of get. 00:03:53.680 --> 00:04:04.240 There's a lot of words like that, there's a lot of concepts like that in Scripture, and we hear it and we go, yeah, I get what that means, and and we get it maybe in kind of a hazy way, but it's not a word we use very often in life. 00:04:04.719 --> 00:04:08.159 Like we don't tend to describe things as holy, but the Bible uses that word a lot. 00:04:08.240 --> 00:04:12.719 In fact, God is described as holy throughout the Bible, pretty much from start to finish. 00:04:12.800 --> 00:04:20.480 So, for example, in the book of Isaiah, this is several centuries before Jesus shows up on the scene, Isaiah has a vision from God. 00:04:20.560 --> 00:04:21.120 He's a prophet. 00:04:21.279 --> 00:04:28.720 And in this vision, the room that he's in sort of transforms, and he's all of a sudden in the throne room of heaven, which is pretty crazy to think about. 00:04:29.040 --> 00:04:36.560 And and he's in the presence of God, and there's these angels that are flying around God, and they're just shouting out and singing this statement over and over again. 00:04:36.720 --> 00:04:38.000 We see it in Isaiah 6.3. 00:04:38.319 --> 00:04:45.199 It says, They, meaning the angels, were calling out to each other, holy, holy, holy is the Lord of heaven's armies. 00:04:45.439 --> 00:04:47.839 The whole earth is filled with his glory. 00:04:48.560 --> 00:04:51.519 God is holy, holy, holy. 00:04:53.040 --> 00:04:59.680 Jesus' best friend John had a vision toward the end of his life, and that vision is recorded in our Bibles as the book of Revelation. 00:04:59.920 --> 00:05:01.279 It's the very end. 00:05:02.160 --> 00:05:10.160 And in this vision, John sees a multitude in heaven singing a song about God, to God, and hear the lyrics to that song. 00:05:10.399 --> 00:05:14.480 Great and marvelous are your works, O Lord, the God Almighty. 00:05:14.639 --> 00:05:21.279 Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations, who will not fear you, Lord, and glorify your name, for you alone are holy. 00:05:21.519 --> 00:05:27.360 All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed. 00:05:27.839 --> 00:05:30.160 It says that you alone, God, are holy. 00:05:30.240 --> 00:05:35.279 And so we're told in Scripture over and over again, God is holy, He is God is definitely different than you and I. 00:05:45.040 --> 00:05:55.839 He says in Isaiah that his ways are not like our ways, that his thoughts are not like our thoughts, that his thoughts are actually higher than our thoughts in the same way that the heavens are higher than the earth. 00:05:56.160 --> 00:06:12.160 That's really humbling to hear that God is different than us in those ways, because let's be honest, sometimes, if we're really being honest, maybe it's just me, maybe I'm the messed up one, um, which is totally possible and true, but like sometimes I think God could do
