Christmas miracle all in itself, but we're going to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens because I heard they just have an amazing LED light display. 00:03:06.319 --> 00:03:11.199 And so we got near there Now, part of the reason I get excited about Christmas lights is when I was growing up as a kid, we didn't have lights on our house. 00:03:39.919 --> 00:03:43.280 Um and they I don't mean they hadn't Frosty, uh, but we didn't celebrate Jesus as as part of a as part of Christmas. 00:03:55.840 --> 00:04:00.719 And so not having lights in our house for my folks was a bit of a statement um to that effect. 00:04:01.280 --> 00:04:12.159 And so I'd heard about Jesus and God my whole life, but when I really met Jesus for the first time, I was 32 years old, and my whole life started changing, uh, whole family. 00:06:52.959 --> 00:06:57.199 The average life expectancy when Jesus was born was 28 years. 00:06:57.279 --> 00:07:01.759 So a baby born the same time as Jesus could expect to live only to 28 years old. 00:07:01.839 --> 00:07:06.399 And that life expectancy had been the same for the thousand years prior. 00:07:06.959 --> 00:07:09.439 Women were very oppressed. 00:07:09.680 --> The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. 00:07:38.240 --> 00:07:48.079 He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord's favor has come. 00:07:48.879 --> 00:07:51.680 The light had come into the world. 00:07:51.920 --> 00:08:00.319 And so the average life expectancy, which had been 28 forever, before too long it was 30, and then it was 35. 00:08:00.800 --> 00:08:05.680 And then people could expect to live to age 40 and then 50. uh within 25 years, there'll be over six million people alive in the world, age 100 or older. 00:08:33.200 --> 00:08:39.279 And so, in spite of what we hear, things are not getting worse and worse and about as dark as it can get, you know, and and it shook me. 00:09:04.720 --> 00:09:08.000 I'm still shook by it, and I'm sure it's unsettling to all of us. 00:09:08.080 --> 00:09:14.080 And when things like that happen, you know, we feel like the darkness is is winning, it's overcoming, but it's not. 00:09:14.720 --> 00:09:16.399 It absolutely is not. 00:09:17.279 --> 00:09:22.480 Do you know 00:09:47.679 On Thanksgiving Day, about a month ago, headline in the Washington Post, it said, surprise, abortion rates just hit an all-time low. 00:09:48.240 --> 00:09:55.519 And the abortion rate has been dropping every year for the last 35 years, and it dropped 5% just the last year. 00:09:55.840 --> 00:09:58.960 Diseases are being cured, poverty is being addressed. 00:09:59.200 --> 00:10:07.360 In our country, slavery has been eliminated, pressure of women has been eased, there's so much less racism, so many less other problems. 00:10:07.759 --> 00:10:12.320 Child abuse rates continue to drop in the United States every year. 00:10:12.559 --> 00:10:23.279 You know, just 75 years ago, there were so many children abandoned in our country that orphans' homes and orphanages were built all across the country. 00:10:23.519 --> 00:10:32.559 Today, parents stand in line and pay thousands, sometimes tens of thousands of dollars for the opportunity to give a child a home. 00:10:34.799 --> 00:10:40.879 You know, the angel said to the shepherds, peace on earth and goodwill towards men. 00:10:41.840 --> 00:10:50.159 Today, December 24th, 2012, we are living in the most peaceful time in the history of the world. 00:10:50.799 --> 00:10:58.320 A smaller percentage of the population is at war today than there ever has been in the entire history of the world. Jesus was born 2,000 years ago in a very small town in the Middle East, and he came for a lot of reasons. 00:14:03.440 --> 00:14:10.639 He came to show us what love looks like, he came to show us what
