Episode 187 recaps the recent Award Travel 101 meetup in Milwaukee, along with several important developments in the points and miles world. The highlight post featured a memorable booking mistake from a member who accidentally reserved two Hilton rooms for five nights each in the wrong city—and even the wrong country—because the hotel was named “Hilton Kuala…” despite actually being located in Ho Chi Minh City. The hosts also covered a 25% Citi ThankYou transfer bonus to Leading Hotels of the World Leaders Club, upcoming Uber One changes that reduce ride rewards from 6% to 5% while adding benefits for families and international travelers, continued Priority Pass devaluations, and Flying Blue’s new Light, Standard, and Flex award fare structure beginning September 8.

The hosts also discussed their latest credit card activity and upcoming travel. Angie picked up an Amex Business Gold with a 200K welcome offer and finally got the Marriott Brilliant, while Laura added Atmos and American Airlines business cards. Laura finished booking her Costa Rica trip using points for hotels and United business-class flights, while Angie was preparing for a major Istanbul, Switzerland, and Lake Como trip. The bulk of the episode, though, focused on the Milwaukee meetup, which featured presentations from Max Craig on using AI for travel planning and earning points, Patrick Sugarman on travel insurance, Eric Holly on using Rove miles for Air India and cheaper United flights, and Chris Moss promoting the upcoming Chicago Seminars and hosting a huge suite party.

Beyond the official sessions, the meetup included a Friday reception, a happy hour at Milwaukee Public Market, a massive suite party, cheese and wine tasting, a Pabst tour, volleyball, plenty of cheese curds, and lots of time hanging out at local spots. Despite numerous flight delays and cancellations affecting attendees, the weekend was filled with lively conversations, useful tips, and plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow members. The episode ends with a simple but fitting tip of the week: Go to meetups!
