Britain's Puzzlingly Poor Productivity
Show Notes

'The only way to have your cake and eat it is to keep growing the cake’.

Listen to this fascinating panel from the YF Economy and Finance network on Britain’s productivity, as part of their ‘A Decade Since the Great Recession’ series.

Since the great recession in 2008, the UK’s productivity growth, especially labour productivity, has been weaker than in many other OECD countries. So much so that the gap between actual and pre-crisis outputs was nearly 20% lower per hour at the end of 2016 than in the previous decade. The panellists will be discussing their views on this and the interventions they think could boost performance ten years after the crash. This will include a deep dive into the drivers of productivity, potential labour and investment policies and how businesses can train and invest in their workforce.

The event was recorded on June 13th at Fabian HQ.

Guests:

John Heap, Managing Director, Institute of Productivity
Dr. Anna Valero, ESRC Innovation Fellow - Growth, LSE
