We break down how the Knicks steal Game 1 from the Spurs and why our series prediction still leans San Antonio in six. We dig into Wembanyama’s rough efficiency, Brunson’s high-volume scoring, and the Game 2 adjustments that could decide whether this Finals swings fast.
• Knicks stealing home court by starting hot and staying aggressive
• Spurs losing Game 1 through mistakes more than lack of talent
• Jalen Brunson’s 30 points on heavy volume and what it signals
• Victor Wembanyama’s shot selection and turnovers as the main fix
• Knicks defenders earning credit without “stopping” Wemby long term
• Role-player impact from Towns, Bridges, Hart, Anunoby and Robinson
• Spurs needing more from De’Aaron Fox and better shooting from Vassell
• Why Game 2 feels like a pressure test for a young Spurs team
• Finals mindset and why a non-complacent Knicks team changes everything

I'm trying to get the ratings up a little bit, you know, just a little bit. Game 1 Recap And Series Pick

SPEAKER_00

Now, game one. I'm still not going to change my overall prediction. I know y'all have listened to my to my to my earlier podcast, right? And I still think the Spurs can win this thing in six games. But the Knicks won Game 1, 105.95. And ladies and gentlemen, to be clear, Spurs, while having home court advantage, did seem to take advantage early on. Now, the Knicks got hot, started out hot. Talking about heated. Like you know what I'm saying? Like they were heating up. I ain't gonna hold you. But every time when a team starts getting a little hot, especially early on, I always think, well, they're not gonna keep that going on the entire game. And it did not, actually. Now, to be clear though, the Spurs just ended up messing up. They lost this game personally. But the Knicks still did their thing for me at least. Now, Jalen Brunson, 30 points, not a lot of assists. Couple turnovers, actually. Matter of fact, his turnovers doubled his assists. But that is okay because he was not playing point guard yesterday. In fact, y'all. Six assists and no turnovers with four steals, one block. Listen, the Knicks out was out there trying to get after it. Okay. They were hustling, they were aggressive, they were knocking down their shots a good amount of times. Okay. They did not necessarily lose the free throw battle egregiously. So they did what they were supposed to do. Try to steal at least one game. So even if the Spurs come out and blow out the Knicks, doesn't matter. Because the Knicks did their job, try to take away home court advantage, and they did.

Wemby’s Misses And Turnover Problem

SPEAKER_00

Now here's the thing. One of the things that I did see, actually, a couple of things I saw. Let's talk about these. Wemby is not able to be guarded. Okay. Victor Women Yama, he had 26 points, but he did so only scoring six made field goals on 21 attempts. That's almost 25% for you, math heads. I said almost to be clear. But also what was worse too was he had the same amount of turnovers as he did field goal makes. You can't have that happen. You can't. You got to be a lot more dominant, Wimby. You have to, end of day. Because if he doesn't have some of these turnovers, and keep in mind, he's not the only person that messed up this game, but he is the star of the team, so we got to put our eyes on him. But again, ladies and gentlemen, if he does a little bit better, I think the Spurs end up winning this in about 10 points they sell. Because remember, at the beginning in the first half, I think they were up close to double digits, like seven, eight points, I believe. That should have doubled the second half. It's not exact one-to-one map, like apples to apples comparison. I will say that. Wimby just missed his shots. Now, they the Knicks did well guarding him. Carl Anthony Towns, I give you kudos. You did your thing out there. I saw some other players, like Josh Hart in moments, was able to guard Wimby a little bit. Like they, they, they, they, Mitchell Robinson did better than what I thought he was going to do against Victim Women Yama. Like they did their job. I still don't think they're going to stop Wimby. Like one game, cool. That was fine. But expectations of Victim Womenyama, I'm expecting them to be a little higher. Meanwhile, for Jalen Brunson, can I say I expect him to consistently get 30 balls every time? Not quite. Now keep in mind, right? It took him 31 field goals to get 30 points. Some people say that's trash. I don't necessarily think that's trash. It wasn't the most efficient, I'll give you. But I can't say it's trash. Against the NBA Finals, supposed to be aggressive. Overall, I still believe that the Knicks don't have enough bodies to throw at Wemby to contain him for an entire series. Meanwhile, the Spurs, despite Jordan, or despite Jalen Brunson's 30-point game, it does look like the Spurs have enough to throw at Jalen Brunson to contain him. Because remember, it took 31 attempts for Jalen Brunson to get 30 points. That has not typically been him. And keep in mind, his turnovers doubled his assists. That's something to note, ladies

Knicks Role Players And Spurs Weak Spots

SPEAKER_00

and gentlemen. Now we got to remember, too, though, it is a team game. So again, shout out to OG Ananobi, Carl Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Mikael Bridges. Like some of y'all's numbers don't look eye-popping. Let's say, for example, Mikhail Bridges. He gives us nine points on 50% shooting from the field, three assists, only one turnover, and two steals. That's a quality performance right there. That's what they needed. Because again, defensively, he's got a task. He has a task, ladies and gentlemen. Whether that's Gardin DeAaron Fox, who's the quickest player on the floor, or Devin Vassell or Julian Champagne, who guess what? They can hit the three-point shot for sure. Stefan Castle is a is a dog. Dylan Harper is a dog. Keldon Johnson is the sixth man of the year. Like, Mikhail has a task. And so does OG Ananobi. So again, those players right there, while their stat lines may not come off as bolsterous or gaudy, right? Not overly eye-popping. To me, when I look at it, I see, okay, they did what they were supposed to do. Carl Anthony Towns, 18 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, one block. That's what they need. It's okay if you miss the three-pointers. You gave your team what you were supposed to on almost 50% shooting from the field. The Knicks, ladies and gentlemen, played well. The Spurs, for the most part, played well. I would like to see Darren Fox start to score a little bit more. And if you're not going to be scoring, you got to be assisting like a mug, bro. Five assists is not going to cut it, D. Especially when you're bringing me in three turnovers. It's not going to cut it. It's not at all. Devin Vassell, one of six from three-point range. Can't rock with that consistently. Julian gave me five for ten from three. He's been on a heater. Devin, if you want to remain on this team champ, hey, bro, you best start turning it up or your Spurs fans is going to be like, we need to get Buddy up off here. I'm telling you. Like overall, ladies and gentlemen, the Spurs still for me have the talent. They just have to win game two and three. Because I don't want them going into game four down two-one. That's too much pressure for this young team. Although I'm not saying they can't win. I'm saying I would prefer it if the Spurs win games two and three. That can show us, hey, they can win back-to-back games versus Knicks organization, which I genuinely believe they can do. And I think this game one, they get hit in the mouth, it wakes them up a little bit. If they lose game two, I may have to rethink some things. I may have to rethink some things. Because now we're talking about this Knicks team having too much experience in comparison to the Spurs. And now will the Spurs be rattled going into New York down 2-0 or 0-2 technically. So the Spurs need game one. And I matter of fact, I was telling some friends yesterday or Wednesday. I definitely think the Spurs need game one more than the Knicks need game one. The Knicks did what they were supposed to do. To be clear, they also, if they went down 2-0, you're going back home. Your role players are playing comfortable. So yes, they need it's nice to get a game, but you don't, I didn't think they needed it. I thought the Spurs needed the game, especially game one specifically. But let's see, too. Because they at least need one game out of this trip at home. At least.

Why Game 2 Feels Must Win

SPEAKER_00

Because going home, just going to somebody else's house, down, down, down 0-2. That's not that's not copesthetic. But ladies and gentlemen, that's the recap. Who do I expect to win game two? Obviously the Spurs. They're down 1-0 right now. I'm expecting Victor to have a dominant game. I'm expecting Garen Fox to come out swinging, whether it's scoring or whether it's playmaking or whether it's scoring and playmaking. I'm expecting Devin Vassell to step it up. Julian, I still need about two or three threes from you, somewhat efficiently. I'll take like three for nine. I'll take that. Stefan Castle, I'd like to see you be a little bit more aggressive. Dylan Harper, pretty decent, but let's let's get some more defensive stats up here. I understand that they played well defensively. They gave quality effort on the floor. I need to see some numbers, though. They do matter a little bit to me, a little bit to me whole time. And again, I know you're going up against a player like Jalen Brunson, who's pretty damn spectacular. But that's the level of play that we need to see from you all, especially if you're looking to beat this Knicks team. So we need Vic to dominate, but we need his support in the cast to help him out too now. Can't do everything by himself. I'm not saying he did last game. He messed up for sure. But everybody's now time to turn it around. And then once y'all get that recipe for the game success, then it's time to replicate that, the remaining games. I'm talking about at least win the next two games. Then the Knicks win, what, game four? And then y'all win five and six. Five is a battle. Six is a is BTA work. That's what I like to see personally. And now y'all know me, I love myself some game sevens too. But this does feel like it's going six. But ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, y'all heard my story. Y'all heard my gripes. Because again, the Knicks, they've already done what they need to do. If the Knicks do come out game two and they looking, they're looking like they're trying to kill, and they look like they're not complacent and satisfied with getting a game. I will have to rethink some things, even if the Knicks lose. Because that speaks to a mindset, personally. Trying to kill your opponent at all times. I'm a Kobe Bryant fan, and I'm telling y'all right now, that's something he would do. And that tells me right there, the Knicks do have motivation. They do have the mindset that is of a contender. Spurs are still young. Can the Knicks get it done? We're gonna wait and see. But game two should be a good one again. I'm expecting the Spurs to win in solid fashion because they needed

more. But let me know your thoughts, ladies and gentlemen. Who are you guys expecting to win game two? Were you surprised at the Knicks winning game one? Do you think the series is already over because the Knicks now have home court advantage? Who would be your finals MVP? Love to hear your thoughts.
