Sandra Mayo is Seattle Pacific University's vice president for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Dr. Mayo provides leadership in Seattle Pacific's ongoing work of reconciliation by providing strategic opportunities to fulfill SPU’s institutional mission. In this episode, we caught up with her to talk about her incredible journey to Seattle Pacific. Born in New York to parents who immigrated from Jamaica, she talks about what it was like to be the first generation in her family to be born in the United States. She believes in the possibility for empathy and bridge-building when we hear each other's stories, and when we realize that there are some common themes throughout our lives, even though they may play out very differently.
