Speaker 1:

Hello and welcome to the Unofficial Controller Podcast, episode 255. Yeah, you've heard me right, episode 255. And whether you've heard me right or whether you're watching me right, you might be listening on Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts from. You might be watching us on YouTube and if you are, look who I'm joined with. It's the lovely and sexy RGT there.

Speaker 2:

he is How's it going?

Speaker 1:

Lovely and sexy, jeez, I haven've been called that for a well, a long time. Now. I'm good, I'm good. How are you? I could see in your eyes you looked a bit sad, so I thought how could I boost him up? Give him a little morale boost? I'll give him. I'll give him a compliment it works every time.

Speaker 2:

Fella works every time. Now, I'm good. I'm good, how are you doing? I'm good, mate, I'm good, how are you doing?

Speaker 1:

I'm good, thanks. Before you call the UCPHR office and get me thrown in the ballroom of disciplinary for sexual harassment, I will withdraw that comment and just say yeah, I'm good.

Speaker 2:

thank you, mate, and how have you been Everything good, yeah, good Busy week at work, but didn't play as many games as I wanted, but there's a few little ones I managed to tick off, so yeah, so in that respect it's been good that's good to know.

Speaker 1:

So we've got some more news today, so we're going to go through later on the show. We've got some more Nintendo Switch games which are coming out not Switch 2 but more for Nintendo Switch that are coming out from now up until April 2nd when that Direct comes out. We've got a little recap of the best-selling games from Xbox 2024 list, some more WWE 2K news and then some other juicy story gossip news along the way. So before we get into that stuff, I really want to know RGT, tell us then a bit more. What have you been playing?

Speaker 1:

There's only really been three games this week as a recording, but trying five complete yes, I was gonna say we've talked about it the last two shows, maybe three and you said I'm trying to finish it. I'm proud of you, I really am.

Speaker 2:

I got through those last two levels, took me a couple of hours, got got to the final boss battle and oh, it was tough. You have to. There was, the thing with a trying bosses is they're like most boss battles You'll have your patterns to follow and you'll remember that pattern each time. So you go, yep, ding, ding, ding, get that done. Get that done, but as soon as you die there's no checkpoint to go back do that whole boss again. So it took me about, I reckon, 10 tries, maybe 12 tries, but I got it done and I literally finished that. I was determined to get that finished. I finished that about an hour before we were recording this. I thought I've got to get it done before we record the show. But I checked my clock 60 hours in this game oh, that's good, though that's game.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I don't think that's good, though that's good. You don't want it. No, you're creep. You're creeping into some serious um rpg times there, but I mean, that's what you're in, yeah, so yeah, I mean it is.

Speaker 2:

It is a puzzle platform, a side scrolling, as I said before. But 60 hours is quite a long time, but I do it don't. I don't blast through games. I like to sit there, work out the puzzles. Sometimes I'm on the screen for 15, 20 minutes each one trying to build the bridge or get up to get out of there or try and stop the bosses. So it took me time on. It really enjoyed it. Um, definitely up. There was one of the best trines I've played.

Speaker 1:

That is a good that is. Stick that in the title. That is a nice little review there from RGT himself.

Speaker 2:

It looked really good. The final boss was like a steampunk, sort of golden octopus that comes out of the water in front of you. Almost reminded me a bit of the Luigi's Mansion 3 final boss in front of you, if you know what I mean, and you're in the foreground playing. Do you know what? I've completed that? But I can't remember the boss. Yeah, it's that sort of boss. At the end it's almost like a bit of an Astro boss, isn't it? Their boss is always in the background facing the screen and you're in the foreground playing. But it was really good. It looked really stunning.

Speaker 2:

That final boss with, and that final boss was sort of the metallic gold of the octopus and that. And once I learned the patterns and I kept getting through to where the boss you, you sort of had two bosses and you'd sort of get a bit down on one, then the other, bit down on one, then the other, and I'd literally go to a couple of millimeters on their life and die and I'm like, oh, can you get free life or free restarts? And I was like, oh, so close. And then the final one nailed it. It. I thought, yes, trying five is done. But then, when the credits rolled. And that trying music rolled, I thought, oh, I've got to say I ain't got a trying game to play.

Speaker 1:

You do get a little bit of post-completion clarity, don't you? When you sort of look at yourself in the mirror and you think now what? You get that sort of bittersweet satisfaction from completing a game and on the other hand, you're like you feel the void has been full but now something's empty, like missing. You know, I need to, I need to chase something, what's my next game? But you had a little backlog last time, so when we finished the show, we talked about what we hope to play and you had so many games, so what did you dive straight into?

Speaker 2:

um, well, the thing was I was I've been listening to, I always listen to the Canaan Rinse podcast. If you haven't listened to them, I mean they've been going 12 years, 700, or nearly. They must be coming up to 700 episodes now, Canaan Rinse, it might even be 800, but anyway, and they, literally they play a game to completion, a load of them and then they talk about that game. And I'd listened to a couple of their RPG ones and they'd done Dragon Age Inquisition and they'd done I can't remember what the other one was now. But then I started to think do you know what I want to play, a big open world RPG.

Speaker 2:

But I thought, no, let's get Trine 5 done, let's finish a few of these other games and then I will start. So I've got, as you know before I said to you before installed when you had your little swaway with it, was Witcher 3. Yes, so that's installed on the PS5 version. So I've got that ready to go, but I don't want to start it until I finish a few of these others. So then I jumped on Stanley Parable, got a couple more trophies there. I think I've got two or three trophies left for the platinum which I might have, I thought you would have.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I thought you. Well, you said it was a couple of hours, a few hours to complete. I thought platinum's probably, I suppose. What is it? Nine, ten hours, by the time, you've done everything.

Speaker 2:

I mean I reckon if you had a checklist you could do the platinum on this in an hour and a half. If you had a checklist, if you looked it up online I mean I've played a couple of hours on it there's a couple of trophies left. I mean, like one of the trophies was I think it was called Settins Freak or something like that, and you had to activate every setting in the settings. So you had to go in the settings and like, if you had to activate every setting in the settings, so you had to go in the settings and like, if you had volume, you had to do one, two, three, four and keep clicking through every. They're pushing you to see how far you'll go.

Speaker 1:

That's it for anyone who hasn't listened to last week's show, first of all do listen to it now. Uh, the game rgt is talking about he described playing it last week was a bit of a cult classic pc game. Um, and the developers have played with RGT with these silly trophies. They had him knocking on doors up and down a corridor. At one point he had to set his clock on his system 10 years into the future to unlock a trophy. So it's really put you through its paces, that game, isn't it? It really has.

Speaker 2:

And also sometimes you'll do a trophy. One of them was begin a new game, right. So start a game, quit the game or began a new game and then suddenly, when you start this new game, the trophy hadn't popped. But this writing come up and says oh, thank you for starting a new game. You're obviously after that trophy, and that's a lot. They're watching you, they're knowing what you're doing. It's quite creepy in a way, but that's always that like the game is.

Speaker 1:

It's clever.

Speaker 2:

You'll do anything for your job.

Speaker 1:

I'm definitely going to play it, when you mention it, as soon as I've got the old Xbox HDMI in, so the TV's only connected to one modern console at a time. But when that's in I'll check it out for sure.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So that's worth a play, just for something a bit different really. And like I say, I've got got. I think there's two or three trophies left.

Speaker 3:

I'll hit Ginger up for those, because I know he's done it.

Speaker 2:

He's confused me a bit and then, finally, there is a game that has nearly overtook my life this week. It's a game I bought when we had the UCP meet up in Norwich a couple of weeks ago, two or three weeks ago. Is this the hidden gem that you're keeping quiet? No, gem that you're keeping quiet.

Speaker 2:

No, I'm waiting to george is on for the hidden gem. He'll never forgive me if I do that without him blessing um, but this is game I've been after for a while. I saw I hadn't seen a physical of it at all, and then I was in game in norwich and there was one physical sat on the shelf and I thought brand new, 20 pound, I'm having that and it is Sociable.

Speaker 1:

Soccer 24 ooh, now that is.

Speaker 2:

I've seen it digitally, but I've never seen it physically yeah, I got it in game 20 pound or just over. I think it might be 22. Either way, what system? Switch?

Speaker 1:

Nintendo Switch. Oh, rgt, you just made me drizzle a little bit there. I need this now me, everyone.

Speaker 2:

Oh RGT, you just made me drizzle a little bit there. I need this. Now me. Everyone knows, if you know me, if you listen to the show over all these episodes, you know I'm a massive fan of sensible soccer.

Speaker 1:

It's my Are you a fan of management? And sim, it's more.

Speaker 2:

George's bag is it not, that's more George's bag, yeah, but sensible soccer for me is the greatest, not only football game, the greatest sport.

Speaker 1:

I can feel a butt coming RGT. I can feel a butt coming and what this is.

Speaker 2:

Sociable Soccer is made by John Hare, who originally was one of the developers on Sensible Soccer. Obviously, the Sensible license is gone. He doesn't own that, so he had to remake a new version and he called it Sociable Soccer. Now, if you read reviews on this as a very mixed bag and I'll tell you why and I'll tell you exactly why it's a mixed bag now, if you're a sensible soccer fan and you have been for a lot of years and you played them back in the day and you've got great nostalgia, you will feel at home. On sociable soccer. It's oh, you will. I thought you'd say you wouldn't. No, you will. Now, okay, okay. But I think the problem is you get a lot of these reviewers younger, don't know about sensible soccer, so they just buy a football game for the Switch and play it and go. What's this? This is rubbish.

Speaker 1:

Oh, surely everyone's heard of what they must have done.

Speaker 2:

I've seen a few reviews and they're like oh for a football game. It's a bit arcadey, it's not this. It's not that there's no transfers, and I'm like you don't get it. You don't get who made this game and why this game is made. Now this game will start you in side-scrolling mode. If you put it in top-down mode, you will feel that sensible soccer, yes, it's better graphics. Yes, the actual game's easier than sensible, but you can still score them. Ludicrous goals of after touch and the curl, and it's just, and it straight away. I just thought, yep, John Eyre made this. I know he's made this. This is brilliant and it's done things. That's great to hear.

Speaker 2:

And when you play what you do, you've got a online league, so every team you play is another player, but you're not playing the player. The ai will play for them, so you're playing their team, all right. So you start off with a team of players in the ranked 20s and 30s out of 100. Then you will be able to upgrade certain players. You'll be able to upstat yourself so you can get um. Sorry, not upstate yourself. You can upgrade yourself um.

Speaker 2:

So I'm like ranked. I think my ranking's like 17, now you start off at like one. So I've put quite a few hours in um and then you can. You'll also have like each season. You'll play like 15 games in a season. That'll say you need, you need to get your team to 600 points to get promoted. So you've got to get to that 600 point and then you're promoted to the next division and then I'll show you a World League, show you where you are and I think I'm in the top 30 or 40 now in the World League. But then each season you'll get a lone player and also when you upgrade, how big is it?

Speaker 1:

Is it a lot of servers, that seems? Are you very, very good, or is there not a lot of people online? I don't want to take the credit away from RGT, but that is mental if you're in the top 50.

Speaker 2:

I haven't lost many games. To be honest, I'm a bit of a passionate player, so I haven't lost many games, but it is. It will feel easy. If you're a sensible soccer player, it will feel easy, but if you know how to play sensible soccer, that's why because you'll use the aftertouch, you know the keepers, you think they're rubbish.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, so it came back. Yeah, yeah, it came back to you.

Speaker 2:

And you'll score some really brilliant goals from miles out, but also they can against your keeper. So it's not all one-way traffic, but all one-way traffic. But the idea is to keep upgrading your players, keep changing them. I mean, most of my players are in their 40s and 50s now, so I kept upgrading them and you can make subs and then it's got that sort of sensible software bit of fun about it. You've got these really comical refs, you've got Crazy Colin and you've got Blind Benjamin. You can wipe people out with Blind Benjamin so he can't see what's going on. So you've got it sounds brilliant.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to have to get this.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm going to.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to screenshot it off. Look it up now.

Speaker 2:

If you want to know and the good thing about this is, I said at the start, is I haven't played much this week because I've been busy and everyone's thinking how come you put so many hours into this? You get home from work, you can fire this up. You know quick the switch fires up, you can put this on and you can play five. You can probably play five matches in 20 minutes. You know that's how quick the games are. They're almost like three, four minute games ding ding, ding, ding ding done out in another game. And I mean the other day I got home from work within an hour. I've done a season, so 15 matches I won, 14, drew, one got promoted. Next league bang away, you go again. It's that quick fire arcade football. Put it in top down. I'll tell you what you'll love it. It's brilliant, especially if you're a sensi fan. If you're a sensi fan, this is, this is good, I'm loving it do you know what's weird rgt?

Speaker 1:

um, when you go on to cx and type in sociable soccer, the switch version, the picture on it and this is a picture on their app it says download code only. No game card inside included. I'm assuming you've got a cartridge. I've got a cartridge, yeah, yeah, I've got a brand new copy.

Speaker 2:

So that is whoever's.

Speaker 1:

If anyone from CX is listening, sort that out, because that's going to put a lot of people off yeah, I got mine from Games, it's download code, only it's download code. Only then, how the hell would it be second hand?

Speaker 2:

how much was that?

Speaker 1:

that's it that is £18 yeah.

Speaker 2:

I think I paid £15 on the PS5 yeah, and I think I paid £22, I think, for the Switch. But I got it for the Switch because I thought, especially an arcade one. It's handy, you know, on the Switch when you're taking it places.

Speaker 1:

Oh, that's fun.

Speaker 2:

But I am. This week I'm going to order the PS5 version because I always think support the people. Do you know what I mean? Support John Hare, support the social team everyone's want and transfers in the game, rather than these little sort of player cards you get like sticker book cards which, by the way, are all licensed players. There's thousands of licensed players in this, so they're all real players from the leagues. But yeah, so people are wanting transfers, people are wanting this. Well, come on, I'm going to buy two copies of it. Put a bit of money back into the Sociable team and let's see if we get.

Speaker 2:

Sociable 25.

Speaker 1:

Mate, if you're feeling generous, don't check the credits, but I think it says Scott Marathon Gaming might have helped with some of the software development. So if you want to ping me 15 or 20 quid, oh yeah, In the show notes I'll put my bank details. Thank you, IGT.

Speaker 2:

No worries, I'm warring it over now, mate, warring it over now.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, other than that, that is me for this week. So what about you, scott? What have you been playing? Well, I noticed you managed to get Astro Bot in the show again for the fifth week in a row. Hashtag not spawn yeah Right. So what have I been playing? So strap yourselves in, because this is going to be a wild one. I'm going to talk about one game, and one game only. I'm over Fall Guys. The competition ended. Ginge came in and smashed us all out of the water. He beat all the competition.

Speaker 1:

I've been playing one game only. I've played it handheld. I've played it undocked. When I mean undocked, it's not handheld, I've used it as like a screen on the side on a coffee table where I've sat in a little bean bag like a 15-year-old naughty boy who's been sent to his bedroom and he's not allowed to play his games. He's grounded. And I also played it on a big TV. When she lets me Disclaimer, mario Party Jamboree. Now, I know I've talked about this game and I said that's what I've been playing a little bit and I'll play a bit more Now.

Speaker 1:

I respect the Mario Party franchise massively. I haven't really played many of the old ones the 64, at all I know they go for quite a bit of money One to six is it and GameCube and different systems, so I haven't bothered with them. But I jumped on them from the Nintendo Switch era Now I loved it and I've said this on a previous show. So I love the board games, so I love minigames as well. So mix minigames with a nice little pick up and play a nice bit of fun, whether it's co-op or with friends or family on your own. Just a little quick 5-10 minute blast. Mix that with a bold game and I absolutely love it.

Speaker 1:

Now, the very first game, mario Party on the Switch, was fantastic. It was really really good. But it was limited because you could only do couch co-op, so you had to have someone around your house to play. You couldn't play if you had the game and I had the game RGT. We couldn't play it to be around each other's house, so it was limited. So there was only let's be honest, there was only five hours in a game, ten hours if you want to push, if you want to do, you know, repeat the same thing, unless I couldn't.

Speaker 1:

Then a second one come out, mario Party Superstars. Now, of course they had more mini games. We're talking hundreds. There might be 100 rhythm games, 100, you know loads and loads. So they obviously had the odd little feature, but nothing massive, you know, it's still mini games.

Speaker 1:

And then the actual Mario Party, which is a big board game. So they added the online feature, which means you could play with friends. So I was like, wow, brilliant. So now, if you've got the game, I've got the game, we don't have to play couch co-op. So it gave it more legs all of a sudden. If you had a friend that had it, you could do a. You know, give a good old game, get a good 20 hours out of it, it's fantastic.

Speaker 1:

So this one came out and I was like, right, I love mario parties. Um, I'm not gonna rush, they just add more mini games and know what else can they do with it. So I only asked for one Switch game this Christmas from my better half. She got it for me. So I finally got around to playing it and I've been playing it nonstop. Really, I've already done 10 to 15 hours of it. It is the best one to date.

Speaker 1:

So there's so many things I've added to it. So first of all, just remember back First one, couch carp only second one online, but with a friend. Now they took it to another level. Now you can play online, but there's world leader balls. You can play against anyone. There's loads of people playing. Not only that, rgt.

Speaker 1:

They've made a proper system so it's ranked, so you get points. So you start off on D rank, win five games, c rank, win another five, b, a, then go to S class where you get your ass handed to you no way. So they've added all that. Then that blew my mind. So I played a few games, unlocked a ball. I was like that's cool. I've unlocked another map, played a few games. I've unlocked another two characters to unlock. I don't know how normally I work all that stuff out early doors but it's so much content to it. So not only can I play mario party, I'm still only a c or b rank and I've played, you know, 10, 15 hours.

Speaker 1:

But they've added these cool other modes. So before there was, like on the old one, they managed to make like a marathon mode which was all the mini games in a row and you know it's a bit of like a survival thing, and if you get far enough and do so many hours you unlocked a character, whatnot? That was what it was. They kept the marathon mode, but they made it better.

Speaker 1:

So it's the um, like the cooper marathon marathon mode, and you're actually online again and there's five random minigames, the same one than a boss battle. If you lose a boss battle, you get knocked back 30 spaces and depending where you come in, a mini game is how many spaces move around. So, unlike mario party, which is a good hour, hour and a half each game, this is like 20 minutes and again it's ranked. So I've been coming top three and it's really, really cool and I send you little messages, like you can like to each other. So they've got that mode, um, and then they've got a survival mode where it's literally last one surviving, so if you don't win a mini game, you're out. Then he goes to the next one so there's that third mode.

Speaker 1:

Then there's another fourth mode I found yesterday, which is we all team together. You've got to load these cannons up and shoot bowers. It wasn't my favorite, but I played a little trial of that. There's another mode there and there's still two modes. I haven't even done so.

Speaker 1:

Not only they upped the online feature and added, like they've made it, it's so well supported there's whole league systems and tables like this is gonna be my game and I'll tell you what. Thank god seb's not here, because I've already made my list of game of the year, games for each month last january and we're into february by time. This, uh, by time, people listen back to this show, so I am gonna say it's a strong contender for Nintendo Switch. I don't know what they can do with it on the Switch 2 if it's another Mario Party. Honestly, mate, there's so many different, not just mini games and the Mario Party, there's literally five whole games in there. So you might only like one thing or two things and you've got the points that you get, and so when you win a game, you'll get so many credits and then you'll go up your rank and then you'll become in a better league, a bit like when you play FIFA online teams, mate. It's made the game so much more fun.

Speaker 1:

So before you just wanted to unlock things, unlock characters, unlock the balls, but now there's purpose, and when you mess it up, or you don't get a star, or you do get a star, or you win a mini game. Don't win a mini game, you make the wrong decision. You're like I'm like, bear in mind, this is mario. Party should be like a nice easy game, mate. I'm raging, I'm my blood's bond, I'm proper pumped up. I'm like, oh no, she's like what game you're playing? Thinking I'm playing, like I don't know, resident evil or something, or run out of ammo shooting a zombie. No, I'm playing mario pie. It has got me hooked. It is my.

Speaker 2:

It is brilliant and it's nice to hear as well. Look, I mean, nintendo are quite heavily criticized in the past for games like mario golf, rush switch sports, where they're releasing them with not a lot of content, so it's nice to see that this is coming out with loads of content don't get me wrong.

Speaker 1:

I reckon they always knew how they could have done this and I reckon they could have done the internet thing two ago. They've eased it in, if you think about it Couch co-op internet friends only Now give them everything. It's like they've creeped it in, you know.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you can slowly pull more players in and give you the big game that everyone wants. But I mean, for me, mario Party, it made me buy a Switch. We had a yeah, I think it was our first UCP meetup a few years back I don't know how many years ago now and we went into at the time it was called One Knife Left Gaming Cafe, oll, you know in Norwich, which obviously went on to do the events in Norwich. We went into CAF and a few of the guys said should we play? There's four of us, should we play Mario Party? I was like, yeah, I never played it before. An absolute blast playing that. And I was like, wow.

Speaker 1:

But you played the actual board game, Mario Party. Yeah, it's quality, isn't it?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, because I only had a Switch Lite before that. I'm like, right, I'm led and the rest is history. But yeah, that sounds good. That's you know. And also, I mean, I think people think they seem to fob off mario party games. They think, oh well, when am I gonna play that? You know, it's not my sort of thing. I want these big, open world games, want rpgs. I want, you know, sports games. But you know, most of us are sociable people and you'll have that time and we both work full time like this is, I get into game, if I'm lucky, an hour each night.

Speaker 1:

So this is fitting in perfectly, you know.

Speaker 2:

So yeah, for me also I love my big single player games. But when you have people around you can't just sit there playing last of us when people are around, because it's a bit rude. But if you've got mario party you can still do your game, but everyone can join in. You know it's? Yeah, it sounds good and this is jamboree, did you say?

Speaker 1:

yeah, jamboree, yeah, mario party jamboree. So obviously it's a mario game. So, and it's a nintendo licensed game. So you're going to be looking at paying, probably even second hand 35 quid. Let's be honest, it's probably a 40 quid.

Speaker 2:

Without content, though it's worth it, you know oh, mate, it really is.

Speaker 1:

I mean they're all brilliant and I sing their praises. But mario this, this latest one, jamboree I'm just gonna look it up for guys in the uk um, at cex. So mario party switch, um, just so I can show everyone how much it is. So, yeah, so the original mario party is still 40 quid. Superstars is for 42, so jamboree is 42. So they're all still the same price. But yeah, mario party jamboree's 42. So they're all still the same price. But yeah, mario Party Jamboree. Honestly, have a look on Facebook Marketplace guides and see if you can pick it up.

Speaker 2:

I've got the first one, I think, for the Switch. I've got Mario Party for the Switch, but you never go back.

Speaker 1:

I don't think now because they've upped them. Like when I played Superstars, I never went back to Mario Party need to go back and I love them and obviously we're retro games and collectors RGT.

Speaker 1:

But I haven't thought I need to go back to get them because, realistically, they're not the sort of games you know you're going to sit there and play on your own. I mean you do with Jamboree, it's perfect, because I've been sitting there playing on my own. I've only played Ed UK came around and we had a little gaming night, so that's when we first played it. But, realistically, if I buy the old ones on the 64, you know, mary, party 1 to 3, you know, unless you've got someone who's going to be sitting in your games room playing side by side, you're not going to play it, are you no?

Speaker 3:

true.

Speaker 1:

So, yeah, that is all this week and I will defend it. When seb comes at me with his machete hands like wolverine, um, I honestly is a really, really good game, and if that was a launch game with nintendo switch 2 amongst a couple of others, it would fit in very much indeed. So yeah, I think that came out in the autumn last year, I believe yeah, I mean, I'd sort of missed that.

Speaker 2:

I'd seen it crop up in a couple of sort of um emails I'd had, you know, yeah, jamboree, and I hadn't taken any notice of it. I don't think I'd even realized that was part of the Mario party scene. I'd just seen jamboree. I didn't think nothing of it, you know, but it's only when you'd said, I started thinking, hmm, yeah, I might have to buy that because that could be some good fun. You, you know, even in Cache Cop it could be good fun, you know, oh, mate.

Speaker 3:

I've got plenty of Joy-Cons, so you know?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, oh, that's interesting, is that? It Is that all you've been playing?

Speaker 1:

That literally mate. That is all I have been playing Kane in the Jamboree this week. Kane in, please.

Speaker 1:

Cream on standby Right. So what I've got on standby is some news. So obviously, at the Unofficial Controller podcast we always talk about the games we've been playing. We like to share them with you and let us know what games you've been playing by joining the Discord. You can find that within the show notes. But we like to bring the hottest news from around the globe. We sort of go around the internet, try and find the best juicy stories, put them together and share with you guys. So we don't just cover modern, we don't just cover Switch, we cover Xbox, playstation, old generation consoles. Even we talk about retro. So you get some special episodes sometimes and we do interviews. We get on developers and all sorts of people within the industry.

Speaker 1:

But I have got some exciting news today, um, I'm going to start with what I've got at the top here rgt. So we mentioned last week in the show about the xbox developer direct. Now I myself only watched it um a couple of days ago, so there might be people here have missed it. So in case you haven't had time to watch that, or you have seen it and you wanted to know a little bit more, or you wanted to recap on the games, I'm going to go through each of them right now. So we had a Xbox partner Developer Direct.

Speaker 1:

So during the latest Developer Direct they showed off tons of brand new gameplay. This is reported straight from Xbox themselves on their website Developer Insights of four upcoming games launching for the xbox series x uh, pc game pass and cloud, and even surprise released a bonus remaster along the way. So that will be a hot bit of news which we'll save for the end of this article. So they visited the studios behind doom, the dark ages, south of midnight, clear, obscure expedition 33 and the never before seen and seen Ninja Gaiden 4, which a lot of people have been jumping up and down about.

Speaker 1:

If you're on social media, you may have already heard this already. Let's get an inside look at new gameplay footage, as well as key information from each game Direct from developers working the team plus. To celebrate the return of Ninja Gaiden, we also announced that a remastered version of the beloved Xbox classic Ninja Gaiden 2 Black will be available for Xbox Series X and S, pc and Game Pass from today. So this is already out, guys. So by the time you've listened to this podcast, this is already on there. So they've chucked that on there. And the Ninja Gaiden series is so heavily loved really, it really really is is. So we'll touch into a little bit about that in a moment.

Speaker 1:

Um, the game which was a top of my list, which I have thought looked really, really cool, was a new doom game. So the dark ages, which is launching in may 15th of this year, which again is on xbox series, pc, steam it even says it's on PlayStation 5, but you can play it day one with the Xbox Game Pass. So Atima ID Software showed a deep dive into Doom, the Dark Ages, and revealed that the cinematic epic first-person shooter will launch on May 15. Now, if anyone played the last Doom, it was mental. They had the heavy rock music. This is all the same, and much more. It really is. So doom the dark ages, a prequel to the critically acclaimed doom 2016.

Speaker 1:

So when I just spoke about, and doom eternal is set in a dark fantasy sci-fi world within doom's immediately recognizable hellish twist, in a segment, three core pillars of the game were explored combat, which dug deep into new deadly weapons of mass destruction, the Slayer could wield. Exploration, which offered a glimpse at an incredible new medieval-inspired setting that would take players to a never-before-seen dark and sinister realms. It did look really, really cool. And Story, which gave an overview of the characters and stakes the Slayer will face in his journey to turn the tide to a war.

Speaker 1:

This is the most ambitious Doom game to date, and I agree because I've watched the trailer. Id Software is seizing the chance to present both newcomers and longtime fans alike with an epic adventure as a super weapon in the middle of an evil war against the hell itself. Now, I don't know if you've watched that trailer, rgt, but I watched it myself and, to be honest with you, I thought it looks like it's going to draw. If you haven't played a Doom game before, you're not familiar with the franchise. I think it's going to bring a lot more players in. It looked really, really cool. I know the last Doom was obviously modern, but it did feel very similar to the other Dooms.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And you can tell it's a Doom game. But it looked so well polished, it looked like there's not been a Doom game for 10 years. They've been working on it for five years and it literally looked absolutely awesome. There was a lot going on but you knew it was a Doom game. It just looked like if all fans of Doom I don't know got around the table and shared ideas of how to make a modern Doom game to appeal to young audience who aren't familiar with John Marrero's classic Doom and I haven't played, you know, doom 1, doom 2, doom 64. So yeah, I thought it was absolutely awesome and I think that is really really big news and probably, other than Ninja Gaiden, probably the most exciting news to me myself. I know previously you've struggled with a little bit of the um, first person shooters, rgt, but you have been on a bit of borderland, so would you fancy a bit of doom?

Speaker 2:

I think I'd go back to like 2016 one and play. I'd like to play through and then return and then jump onto this. But, um, yeah, I can't see why not. I mean that sort of hectic blast and sort of you know, melee combat as well looks really good. Going back to the Ninja Gaiden 2 Black remastered I think that is genius. From Xbox, that is absolute genius, because you know, games Pass and Xbox themselves have been tacked a bit of a hammer at the end of last year up till now. They need to get the numbers back up on Games Pass. Drop that on there. Day one. That's on there. You can play that. You ain't got to pay for it. Well, I've in the new subscription. Not only that, you're going to get new players playing that game. Ready for Ninja Gaiden 4 mate.

Speaker 1:

That's why it's so clever yeah, I messaged you off, off the show, didn't I?

Speaker 1:

and I said I said they've dropped this, a retro game. I said we could play it. Uh, we can talk about the show. Um, obviously, unfortunately we didn't get time around to play in it. But again, the fact that they've announced a new ninja guide and it'll get people playing it and then, yeah, they'll get a taste for it and it's genius to do much. They probably just run it through some machines that have polished it, upscaled it, ray it. I don't know all the technicalities but yeah, it's going to draw people into the next game and I think it might work for me because I've got a lot of friends who are very into the series I've got. I don't know if you're familiar with Retro Chef. He does a swap shop on YouTube. Lee, really, really nice guy. He's not too far from me. That is his favourite game of all time.

Speaker 2:

I am especially like on the old days, but that's the genius thing as well, because you're going to be getting them big fans and you know there is a big fan system for this. All the way back it's been going forever the NES, all the way through. You know they're loving them games, so you're going to bring them up and just say, look, hey, I'll play this one again. That's Remastered. Play this again. Get ready for four. Not only that, with how you know, people have been saying that. You know there hasn't been a lot of Xbox first-party games of late, but this is now on your Games Pass. If you're on Xbox, you use your Games Pass. You haven't played Ninja Gaiden. It's a new game to play. It's a remaster. If you haven't played it before, play this. If you're enjoying it well, you're going to play 4 as well. Aren't you drawing people onto Games Pass? Just drawing people into playing number four?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, great idea. Can I ask you a question, as you are the retro gaming oracle? And I don't mind embarrassing myself, so I'll put it out there. Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi are they intertwined or are they completely two separate entities?

Speaker 2:

They're two separate entities as far as I know.

Speaker 1:

That's why I think I always get them mixed up. I was just about to say I've got it on the game gear and I was like, no, I'm talking about Shinobi 1 and Shinobi 2.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, originally yeah, nes games I think were the original Ninja Guidance, and then they've sort of been coming through the systems ever since, and I mean I know the.

Speaker 1:

It was an Unless. I am thinking of Shinobi, and I've got my panties in a twist.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm not sure, to be honest, I wouldn't know. I know that they've got a big following. And then I remember people used to rave about the Xbox 360 one which was would that have been Intergaden 2 Black? Maybe I'm not sure, but I know people raved about that and that almost had that sort of Souls-like.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's the one they said. Yeah was in the original Xbox, I think.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's it. We almost had that sort of souls-like to it. Where you were, you know you had to block and then hit and then you know you can just go in, hack and slash. It was a bit of art to learn and how to play the game, which obviously gathered a good audience to it. So, yeah, I think it's a brilliant idea and I think that'll do well for Xbox. Hopefully get them Games Pass figures back up.

Speaker 1:

Yeah. So there's a great announcement from Xbox about Ninja Gaiden, a new game coming. They're releasing a previous one, just sort of polished and released for everyone to play backwards compatibility-wise on the Game Pass. It's genius. And then we had Doom, which is a very, very good announcement, and then every announcement after that were all really really solid games. So I must admit I hadn't heard of many of these titles at all, if any at all, if none. But I did again watch all the trailers, I watched the direct, and they all look really, really polished.

Speaker 1:

So the next one is South of Midnight, and this is coming on April 8th. So South of Midnight. And again, again, it's on everything you expected to be on pc, windows, xbox, xbox series game pass. So compulsion games took us behind the scenes at a studio in montreal, canada, to learn more about the south of midnight. Now this is a third person action adventure game which releases on april 8th.

Speaker 1:

In compulsion segment we learn more about the journey of hazel, the game's protagonist, which leads her into a darkly magical world where she discovers her new abilities as a weaver. Her story is filled with a southern gothic folklore and encounters mythical larger life creatures that shape her growth and understanding of her newfound powers. You can can see more South Midnight's handcrafted art style, world building and combat in their new trailer, which, if anyone wants to check out that would be you can go onto, like even on your Xbox. You probably had to activate it or just type it on YouTube if you don't want to watch the whole direct, but it looked a really, really solid, like a big game. Like a big game. This looked like there was a lot of story in there Again, a lot of atmosphere. The graphics looked fantastic. I mean, all these games did really, but I knew nothing about that really, but the game looked really really good. To me, all of these looked fantastic and that was no exception.

Speaker 2:

What did you think of that one? Was this the one where they'd done a? They'd almost made it look like stop motion? That's the frame rate to They'd all the most made it look like stop motion. The frame rates make it look like a stop motion sort of art scene in this game, haven't they?

Speaker 1:

What do you mean by that? The stop motion?

Speaker 2:

Well, if you look at when they were playing the trailers of it, you know, like stop motion, the early Wallace and Gromit and ones like that it almost seemed jittery.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, no, you're right mate. Yeah, almost like a fantasy, right mate? Yeah, almost like Madison Clayface.

Speaker 2:

And I thought I think nowadays, with so many genres and so many games out there, I've always said to you know, I say this on the show all the time to draw an audience in, you've got to do something well, but different.

Speaker 3:

And they've done that and I thought this looks very interesting and another great one to have on Games Pass.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I think you know something so different and unique. I thought, hmm, I quite like the look of this. I thought you know something. I'm going to follow the progress and yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

I'm quite surprised that's just dropped on Game Pass, because that could have easily like it looks really really good, like if it was £30, just showing that trailer. They really are pushing the Game Pass. They're are obviously trying to keep it alive because this to me seems a really big game just to chuck on there. Yeah, a new game, so inventive and original. This is a big game.

Speaker 2:

That's that age-old argument in it to do you sell games or do you do a subscription service? Well, with Sony, most of the Sony players will buy their games 60, 70 bucks a piece when they come out, whereas your Xbox people are mostly into the Games Pass. But the idea is that you keep increasing the numbers of subscribers to then counteract the price of making that game. Yeah, they've obviously struggled of late, but I think with new games like this coming on, it's only going to attract more people. Because if these this is another thing I know it's weird that xbox I know I'm going off on a tangent a bit, I know it's weird xbox are now just going to start selling their games on ps5 and then switch to. And I say but also, if you've got like this, you've got four or five games coming out in a short period, well, if you're a, if you're a multi-console gamer, are you going to spend? You know, if you've got four games, it's what?

Speaker 1:

200 no, mate, that's very true. You're going to spend if you want to play all of them.

Speaker 2:

it's 280 pound, or do you get a subscription for six months, as anything is? Do you keep that subscription on? But you see where I'm going with it, yeah it's genius If you just wanted one.

Speaker 1:

if it was just one of these games out of four, let's be honest, I think they're all on Game Pass and they will be revealed at a second. But if it was just one out of the four or five, you'll be thinking, oh, that's not going to draw in. Many people you know a few thousand game pass. But if you give them half a dozen games say they're all on game pass, you could see a 30% increase. You don't know, do you?

Speaker 2:

No.

Speaker 1:

Because you're literally giving them so much bang for their buck. Anyone who's on the fence of one leg over PlayStation and one leg over Switch you're going to throw both legs over Xbox and jump in that garden and slide down that slide with your I'm about to say with your portal, but we haven't got one yet.

Speaker 1:

We esteemed it, but yeah, that looks absolutely incredible. I'll tell you what if you are, if you have got a bit of money and you're impatient you don't want to wait and you've been following that game for the developers you can actually order that and pre-order it right now. So, deep south with hazel, you can pre-order today and play up to five days early. Um, the south of midnight premium edition. So, um, if you guys want to check that out, just type it to google or head to xbox. Um, and yeah, you could actually pay to play it five days early. Um, I can't see why you would. I don't know. You might be impatient, you might be have a bit of time off and want to play it, who knows? Um, this next next game we've got here is, uh, clear obscure expedition 33. Now I'm struggling to realize the font size for that to fit on a physical game spine. You're not going to see that a bunch of shell. Clear, obscure expedition 33. We've got about 40 letters there.

Speaker 1:

Now this is coming april 24th, a lot of games coming out in spring, so this, so this again is on everything Xbox, xbox app, windows PC, blah, blah, blah. And, most importantly, play it day one with Game Pass. We visited Montpellier, france, home of Samfeld Interactive, as they developed their first game, clé Obscur, expedition 33. So it's a debut. This turn-based RPG I know you love losing time to these RGT is set in a fantasy version of late 19th century France, where the world is facing an existential threat. I was just thinking extraterrestrial, I was thinking I don't remember seeing a.

Speaker 1:

UFO. One year at a time, they will have shared a deeper look at the game's innovative mechanics, such as the reactive turn-based systems. There's obviously something they've created, because they've got it in quotes and a unique art direction that brings the game's world to life. We even got a first look at Expedition 33's expansive overworld map and it did look awesome. As a coup de grace, soundfall Interactive confirmed the game's release date, as our journey to stop the Pinterest begins April 24th. So a very, very brief description, other than saying it's an RPG. To be honest with you, you're not going to get much from that. So I would say anyone listening to check out the footage for that, because it is a really. Again, it was a really beautiful looking. You know open world games like these all do look like. To be honest, it looked really awesome and I know you do love a bit of RPG and losing a bit of time. So RGT is that one that's going to be getting you straight on Game Pass.

Speaker 2:

Again. I think this is a genius masterstroke, because what do people normally say, or definitely from the past? There's never been enough JRPGs on the system Xbox. They have a very small foothold in Japan. What do you do? Make your own, Make your own RPG. Jrpg is turn-based. Put it on the system, Stick it on Games Pass. Before you know it, you're attracting people over to your big old JRPG fans. Not only that, you could get your figures up a bit in Japan.

Speaker 1:

So I'm thinking again this seems a very well thought out um directors uh list here um, what, why I picked up from um watching this, um, so I've just had a little quick look. Just to recap, I watched this, uh, a few days ago now, so the graphics are incredible, um, so it's sort of third place, third person view. Now the cut scenes are amazing. The graphics on the cut I know they should be because they're cinematic, but honestly, the facial expressions, they really really are phenomenal. And when you watch the combat, what's really really cool is there's loads of those different monsters, but it seems to have obviously got those hp points, uh, hit points, coming up on the screen.

Speaker 1:

Um, but it looks to me like, obviously, I'm comparing it to something terrible. We're like super mario rpg, but you know, when it awards you for timing, um, I haven't played, you know, final fantasy 16, some of these other games. So, um, yeah, it does award you with a timing, you know, with parries and all those sort of things. So it has got its own little mechanic, which I'm guessing that's why it said reactive, turn-based system. Yeah, so, to be honest, you, it doesn't look turn-based, so I'm quite interested to see. It looks like a mixture between turn-based and action rpgs. I'm really surprised because I can't work out which one I prefer. I feel like I prefer turn-based, and then I get bored and when it's like an all-action rpg it's a bit much for me. I want to chill out, so this might be a perfect hybrid of the two and also a lot of yeah it doesn't look turn

Speaker 2:

based you know there's a lot of JRPG fans who are Playstation owners. You know, put a game on there that's going to pull them across, always on Playstation, yeah my brother-in-law loves JRPGs.

Speaker 1:

He's got all the big ones, it's Code and 2 and stuff. He's kept all of his old consoles His PS5 fanboy. He laughs at the Switch. He never does Xbox. All he plays is JRPGs and some Western RPGs. All he plays, he loves them, and I'm quite surprised actually to hear of a game before he's heard of it, if you know what I mean, because normally he's telling me so yeah, I hadn't even popped into my brain the fact that this is on Xbox. As you say it out loud crikey, we've got a JRPG coming to Xbox Game Pass.

Speaker 2:

Like I said at the start, you could bring a lot of JRPG fans over. They're firing shots in 2025, xbox and you are and you and you might start getting a little bit more of a foothold in japan. You know the japanese market might be thinking hang on, I've got a pc, why don't I get games, pass and play this? Yeah, you know, so it's. Yeah, it's. The lineup is a little bit of everything, but a little bit that's going to pull players across. I think it's clever and very well done.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I know we've talked a little bit about Ninja Gaiden 4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, but if you've got it in front of you, RGT, do you want to just read out to the listeners just the full news story that we got?

Speaker 2:

from them. Yeah, no problem. They said Ninja Gaiden 4 is launching fall 2025, which is another reason why they've done that remaster. Get that plan this year, play it throughout the year and then you'll be ready for, for number four, xbox series x and s, xbox app for windows, pc, steam cloud, playstation 5 and play it day one with games pass.

Speaker 2:

Team ninja announced return of a beloved franchise with the reveal of ninja gaiden 4. After more than a decade, the masters of action at team ninja and platinum games have partnered with xbox game studios publishing to bring us an exciting new chapter in the ninja guidance series, a series with a long history. On xbox, we're introduced to yukumo, a new protagonist whose objective lies in the heart of devastated tokyo. On mission, yukumo must not only encounter fiends and demons, but also the legendary master himself, ryu Hayabusa. Gameplay footage showed that Yukumo will introduce players to a stylish new take on ninja action, with blood-bind ninjutsu alongside legacy techniques like the Flying Swallow and Azuna Drop. Ryu will also return as a playable character with a revamped arsenal that stays true to his signature brutality and precision.

Speaker 2:

During this segment, developers from both Platinum Games and Team Ninja shared details about the game's story, the setting in a near-future Tokyo and its action-packed combat mechanics. We also got a glimpse into the creative process behind this highly anticipated title, which will be released in fall 2025 and can be wish-listed on Xbox, pc and PlayStation 5. For the latest information, follow Team Ninja on the social media YouTube X, facebook, instagram and also you can check out an interview with developers on the Xbox Wire. Yeah, this sounds brilliant and again, it's a title they're releasing on PS5, but I know a lot of Xbox well, I'd say fans probably say the fanboys are not happy about it going to PS5. But on the other hand, if you're not getting those numbers up quick enough on games pass, you're making bank on it on your competitors console because everyone will be paying 70 bucks for it.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, it's just given the odd tease because you can go like, yeah, this is xbox, but here we go, playstation boys, this is what we can bring they might play a bit of that and go. Oh, do you know what that xbox is?

Speaker 2:

all right, yeah let's, unless they have a taste of it.

Speaker 1:

Unless they taste it, they don't know what it tastes like and they sold you the game in the process.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, it's sound and very good. I like how they've. With these games, when you've got a big fan base behind them, you need to keep them as what they were, but you need to add a little bit as what they were, but you need to add a little bit. So do you know what I mean? You need to have that familiarity with the characters you love, but give them something a little different. Give them that little extra bit that wants you to keep playing with them. And by the looks of this and seeing it, it looks as though that's what they've done. So it's going to be interesting.

Speaker 2:

I think this is going to do well and I think yeah, I think Games Pass is going to prosper from this title. I know it's a bit of a niche market Ninja Gaiden but they have quite a hardcore fan base there. So for any of them who aren't on the pass, I think they might be after this is released. Anyway, they might be now just to play the remaster of two. But, yeah, what do you think? Something you're going to play day one.

Speaker 1:

Well, yeah, when I watch the trailers, I don't know, obviously, if they're on Game Pass. Of course I'm going to try them, but, to be honest with you, I don't really think it's my game. I think there's a bit too much going on for my little brain to want to chill out after work and whatnot. There's a certain type of game for a certain type of man at a certain time of day, um, and, yeah, most of my gaming's the odd little hour between finishing work and dinner or after that, or the odd friday night or sunday afternoon, um, and it tends to be different genres of games depending on the on the occasion of the day, and I'm not sure whether that one's going to fit in for me, but I will try it. I will try it yeah, I think it's.

Speaker 2:

It's definitely more for the sort-like sort of hardcore fan base.

Speaker 1:

Yeah and that ain't me, that ain't me, no.

Speaker 3:

That's going to be more.

Speaker 2:

Bobby really.

Speaker 1:

Let's be honest.

Speaker 2:

And that's again more, bobby, the. Souls-like. Yeah, that's the thing with Games Pass, which is good because you know if you've got Games Pass, you ain't got all that worrying about buying a game that you aren't going to like. You can just dip in. You never know, you might not be your genre, but you might play an hour or two and think, well, this has hooked me in on this where you wouldn't, you wouldn't have bought it before.

Speaker 1:

So it gives you that chance to try yeah, but from game pass to passing time, cozy games rgt are, uh are a big deal. Um, I know a lot of the female audience. I'm not stereotyping, but they tend to enjoy a cosy game a little bit. I mean, I got very involved in Animal Crossing during COVID, like I'm sure a lot of people did, felt like we was outside but really we were trapped inside. Now I'm excited for this game news because it's Nintendo Switch. It might not be the most exciting news, but it's from Team17. And me news because it's nintendo switch. It might not be the most exciting news, but it's from team 17 and me and yourself, rgt, love team 17 generally, I don't get things wrong. So there's been an announcement, um from team 17 for a new game launching on nintendo switch. This isn't switch 2 news, this is for nintendo switch and this is for the 13th of february, so very, very soon, literally under a fortnight's time. It's's called Amber Isle from Amber Tower.

Speaker 1:

Now I have watched a trailer of it. Of course it's aimed at a younger audience, but we are of course, a family-friendly show. We like to include everyone. Despite the terrible failed attempts of me slipping in innuendos to every other sentence RGT says on each show. We do like to try and collectively show different games with different ages and of course you might be listening to this with your son or daughter in the car or whatnot, so this game may appeal to them or it may appeal to an old audience. I think myself I may even give it a go. So the graphics look a little bit like a game that I brought to the Ponzi's and Seb actually gave me a pat on the back and he was like that's a good game. The artwork and style of it looks a bit like little gator game. I don't know if that's an amber towel game or not. I might have to look that up.

Speaker 1:

Um, but yeah, they've announced amber isle launches on nintendo switch in just three weeks time, on the 13th of february, a day before valentine's day. What a present for your wives and girlfriends, if you're listening to this, yeah but, that's not all.

Speaker 1:

All pre-orders for amber I'm the aisle are now live. You can pre-order amber aisle and nintendo switch and save 20 off dino centric shop management simulated simulator. This pre-order discount is available up until launch of 13th of february. So I'm gonna give you a little bit of a lowdown about what this sort of game is and then you'll get a bit of an idea. So I've already said it's a bit of a cozy game. Looks a bit like animal crossing.

Speaker 1:

So about amber isle being the new owner of a failing shop is no mean feat, and once players have created their own paleo persona persona, they need to roll up their sleeves and get their claws dirty. So they're done there as they work to maintain the shop. So the premise of the game is you're trying to basically build a shop up, and you'll see why at the moment. So players will spend their days bartering with stubborn customers stocking shelves with everything that their paleo powers might need. So, brief, reading the locals, improving the village, which is what it reminded me of, um animal crossing, and exploring new surrounding areas for new items to craft, which reminded me a little bit of my time in porsche. Is it my time, porsche, which is a very old. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So an attempt to convince their fellow paleo folk so dinosaurs to return to amber isle permanently. So basically, you're trying to maintain and build up a shop and people will come and visit your island. It's kind of got all of the very famous farming simulators Animal Crossing, cozy.

Speaker 2:

Games. It's got that sort of Stardew feel to it. Yeah, it really is, you can progress and upgrade and get better as you go. I quite like the look of this.

Speaker 1:

I do as well. You've got an open shops in customized name and run your shop your way. Use the profits to unlock new shop decor, walls, floors so you can just build it as you want, and more, making the space uniquely yours. So, a bit like the sims, rebuild the island, rebuild, decorate, unlock new areas to explore on amber isle and, with enough improvement, patio folk will start to take up residence on the island permanently. Meet the neighbors.

Speaker 1:

Amber isle is home to 48 different patio folk to befriend, including ice age mammals, permian amphibians, marine life, invertebrates and more. Could be educational. Express your, express your pension of the prehistoric and design your very own patio folk. Change your clothes, creates that bit reminds you of a little bit of a sort of younger audience where you get to dress them up in colors to create your perfect patio persona. But this game, to me, rgt feels like it's hitting a lot of different target audiences because it, like you, would say the same thing to me. I think this looks okay and I, if it wasn't coming out so soon, I'd say, if you're listening, send us a bloody review code for that, because I would like to check it out, but depending on the price of it, I'm generally really interested in it.

Speaker 2:

I really am. Yeah, I'm thinking of pre-ordering this. It looks really cool.

Speaker 1:

It's good when you get into one of those relaxing games. You know the game you play for half an hour before bed each night. One of those.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, it's got that. It's got that stardew animal crossing, it's got that almost. I mean, obviously we haven't played the game, we don't know, but it almost seems it's got that longevity sort of sandbox in it where you can just keep it going. Yes, you can nip on for an hour each night and it's just relaxing. You know, it's not Dark Souls, you just chill out, you just yeah, I think I could pre-order this. I really like the idea of this. I'm just chilling out, If you do.

Speaker 1:

I will. I'll tell you what, why not?

Speaker 2:

And if anyone's listening.

Speaker 1:

Jump in the Discord, let us know. Let's all pre-order it.

Speaker 2:

And the thing is as well. You know, we're fans of Team 17, anyway, they very rarely publish or develop a bad game. They're so good.

Speaker 1:

They won't put their name on anything bad. Let's be honest.

Speaker 2:

No, no. So yeah, I'm all over this. I quite like that. I think it would be a good little chill out. Put plenty of hours in build your shop up. Yeah, this looks good fun.

Speaker 1:

Very good fun. Just while we're on um, team 17 um, I did mention this. I've just fact-checked myself and it's come up with lots of different articles, but I will say it's a rumor in case I'm incorrect, so that won't anyone suing me. So I will say this as scott, not as represented the ucp. Now team 17. They're still operating. Um, you know from wakefield, england based developer and publisher of video games, working simulation games, blah, blah, blah. Apparently they're changing their names to Everplay Group PLC Effective in February. Now I've been on Team 17 websites. There's nothing about it. But when you type in Team 17 News or Team 17 Name Change, it's been well documented that a parent company announces a name change, but the um, the developer, will still live on. So I'm not sure what the changes are actually going to be.

Speaker 2:

I don't get that says to me almost like this this other group has got a majority, yeah, got a majority sharehold, and they changed the name, which for me is quite sad because I was playing team 17 games back in the. I know the company's changed a lot since then, but I was playing them back in the 90s, early 90s, you know.

Speaker 1:

On the Amiga. Yeah, on the.

Speaker 2:

Amiga and Mega Drive and.

Speaker 1:

God knows what else. It was revolutionary, Exactly you know, Founded in 1990. So, yeah, I mean this is a little bit breaking to all of us really, but I've heard a few people talk about it um in the past week or so, so this is quite fresh. Um, but don't be alarmed. Me and rgt are both big fans of team 17. Um it doesn't look like anything's changing.

Speaker 1:

I don't think there's going to be job losses. I mean, obviously you can never say never, but it just looks like, like rgt said, it might just be, um, hopefully not a massive new direction, but maybe the majority of shareholders, just put them all under one roof.

Speaker 2:

But the thing with me is, even now, when I buy a Switch game or you know an indie game and you see that Team 17 on, that's nice to see that little Team 17 logo on the front and the back. But yeah, it's a good thing.

Speaker 1:

It might be listen, this company's got some money. They've got shares in Team 17. They're aware how good Team 17 is. They've pumped more money into it. They've got them to change their name and get their staff to take on their other games from other companies that aren't as good. So it might mean we'll get more Team 17 games. So let's not panic, let's think positive. Let's think positive, that's it, we'll think positive.

Speaker 1:

Now I've got some more positive news for wrestling fans the Royal Rumble. By the time you've listened to this show, unless you want spoilers, you might turn your social media off. Myself, I'll be watching the Royal Rumble as well, because I do love watching that event each year. Which is coming, I think, is it the 1st of February? I think it comes Well, anyway, if you've been watching Royal Smackdown on the build-up to Royal Rumble, they did actually announce live on the show in proper wrestling fashion by dropping Paul Heyman dropped a banner from the sky, so we had the cover revealed for WWE 2K25, which confused some wrestling fans, and I'll tell you why. So Roman Reigns announces WWE 2K25's cover star, hinting at a big role in the showcase mode. So I haven't played the modern ones the last few years, but I have heard they focus on a particular wrestler and they do like a career mode where you play their matches that were up in their career. You know you play both sides, so you play it out whether you lose or whatnot, or heal or babyface. So the game's unveiling superstars like cody road cm pump, sparking speculation because a lot of big storylines with cody road cm punk at the moment, seth rollins and like of it, so they wasn't sure who was going to be on the front. Fans hoped wwe 2k25 will highlight reigns family legacy by questioning why the undertaker has an alternate edition. So there's basically a premium edition, rgt where you can pay extra, a bit like Undisputed, where you get a different cover. But with WWE 2K25, you normally get a little extra feature of it, so you might get some more stuff, more Undertaker costumes or attire, and what it normally means is there will be a special mode where you get to play the Undertaker's career. But I don't know if something's happened because you can already get the Undertaker version, but then they've announced Roman Reigns on there. So you think that we don't know what the game mode is basically. So join the big segment.

Speaker 1:

On the January 27th episode of Raw, paul Heyman officially revealed Roman Reigns as a cover star for WWE 2K25, with fireworks in a big poster and and it was big showing Roman Reigns preparing for a Superman punch Rolling down the rafters. Fans were quick to chant and acknowledge WWE's tribal chief as a superstar. Drew McIntyre came to interrupt that segment because he wasn't happy about him being on the cover, but the WWE Universe was left speculating what Roman Reigns being the poster boy for the game could lead to. So I mean it's more left to the forums of the internet really of speculating. But there's a bit of a confusion really, because he's not I don't believe he's a current champion. I don't think he's. I mean it might be tipping that. Is he going to win the Royal Rumble and is he going to be making his way to WrestleMania? It's a pretty wrestling star on the front cover.

Speaker 1:

I think last time we had Cody Rhodes. I think before that we had John Cena because he made a return. I mean, even the Rock's been back in action lately, so it's a bit odd. I mean Roman Reigns, I think was on the cover, but I think was on the cover but a fair few years ago, obviously still at the top of his game, still calling himself the Tribal Chief. Now he's going by the original Tribal Chief, but yeah, it's a bit of a strange one really, because they've announced a Deadman edition, basically for the Undertaker. So there's still a possibility that that version could feature different exclusive content and fans are wondering why the Undertaker has an alternate edition. Some fans have suggested that the Rock should have his own bundle as it ties in better with the Bloodline themes. It's a bit of a story, basically. I know you're not a wrestling fan, rgt, but there's a storyline at the moment going on with Roman Reigns.

Speaker 3:

But yeah, it's very, very.

Speaker 1:

I think it's shocked people a little bit. I think normally you're not surprised. It's whoever the champion's going to be, whoever's the new champion's going to be. They don't just necessarily stick the new kid on the block. It's not like FIFA where they put the new upcoming star. They normally put whoever's at the top of the game.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, maybe I think as well, not being a wrestling fan, but you can see from this, by doing it this way, you've created speculation, you've created talk, you get a talk around the game. I mean, if anyone want to check this out, this is, you know, our source was courtesy of gamerankcom. Go on there, see the full article. These guys are down with it. But yeah, you can see, you know, sometimes people think, oh, this seems a bit disorganised, they're not letting people know what's actually going on. But on the other hand, you think, well, you're talking about it, we've got it on the show, we're talking about it. There's no, no such thing as bad publicity. So, yeah, this could generate a lot of hype for this game and so far it seems to be. Uh, the hype is brewing, I think. Are you going to be getting this?

Speaker 1:

well, I did say on the last show I I probably won't rush to get the new one, rgt, because because I brought one, not this year's but the year before, like a PS4 version, and I've just never got around to playing it. So I know I'm going to be blown away with the graphics, even at PS4. And they are a bit hit and miss with what. It depends what mode you like and stuff. I'm not going to go online, so I'll probably be able to jump into any of them. So rather than spend another 40 quid, I mean I've got ones that are two a go. So I've probably got 2K23. So I might play that. If I want, I can get 2K24.

Speaker 1:

I'm yeah, I mean, when I first got the consoles I was really excited. You know, when I got a modern console Xbox and PlayStation 5, I was really excited to get a wrestling game, but I just never got around to doing it because on the Switch we only had one before AEW which I still haven't played and that was WWE 2K19 and 21. And it's got Seth Rollins, I remember, on the cover and I think I brought it, but it was so broken it just didn't run. When I say broken and obviously you know I love the switch, so I'd you know I'll be brutally honest here it didn't run, it didn't run yeah, it was.

Speaker 2:

It was unplayable. You gotta blame the devs for that.

Speaker 1:

Some of the devs have but then for them to just boycott the switch afterwards is so, I thought, disrespectful. Yeah, so I'm hoping they I don't know, I hope they'd scale something down if they took, took some features along. I mean, fifa have done it well enough. They've took some features out and given us a game. And at least try, do you know what I mean?

Speaker 2:

I played well. You know, all of us did. You know 2023. We played through me, Seb, Bobby, George. We all played through Hogwarts Legacy on the PS5. We loved it. Brilliant game, Really good. We loved it, Brilliant game, Really good. It was, you know, a big world. They'd done it really well. But they took their time, Portkey and they put that on the Switch and my Mrs RGT is playing that on the Switch Lite and, yes, it's a downgrading graphics, but they've got that game on there.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, they just made a bit more loading times between.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, but it looks really good. You know, know you can buy Hogwarts Legacy on in handheld mode. They've had a really good job of that. So if you take your time you can port these down to the switch.

Speaker 2:

I know we've got this way you know, but they just thought, well, we messed that one up, we shan't bother when you think well, actually the switch is a massive market and there's going to be a lot of wrestling fans in there. If you'd have just put the time in and put a bit of effort to actually learn and how to sort of downgrade it for the Switch and I don't mean that as an insult, but you do you could have. You could have a decent series of games on there and have a whole new fan base on the Switch.

Speaker 1:

I tell you what. That's a good shout actually. The Switch 2. It's a really cool cover art. Actually, on the front it does look cool. Um, switch to uh, I would have thought could run a wwe game.

Speaker 1:

So let me just check the release they're talking sort of ps4, ps4 pro power, so you wouldn't have been any trouble it's coming out on the 14th of march, so you've got time to get your game out, release it on march and then it gives you a couple of months to put it down on the switch. So before it comes out in the summer earliest. So there's a good chance they could make it work.

Speaker 2:

They might even be working on the Switch 2 port, so you never know.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I hope so, I really do hope so.

Speaker 2:

I think so. I think now the gap of systems is getting smaller, it's time to develop for all three simultaneously. I think.

Speaker 1:

Now I know we've bounced around from nintendo switch to xbox and we've been talking a lot about nintendo switch 2 in the last two episodes, so we do want to share the love to the other consoles. I know there's not so much playstation on this show. If you're a playstation fan, stick around and come back for next week because there might be some news on playstation 5, but I'm sure there will be. But I just want to finish up this news segment by.

Speaker 1:

I was looking from Xbox and basically Microsoft themselves revealed their 2024 best selling Xbox store games. It was their top 20 best selling games of 2024, the company shared an alphabetical list, basically making it impossible to gauge how individual Xbox titles compare to another. The list itself is dominated mainly by sports games, which is no surprise because you always get those returning fans which account for over one third of it. But I was quite shocked. I think our listeners will be. I've highlighted one in particular, but it's a shame George isn't here for that one. He'd be very, very proud. But yeah, this is. I don't know if it's a bit of a shock. Do you want to run through them? Rgt, just run through a list and we can talk about ones which maybe have shocked us a little bit, ones we expected.

Speaker 2:

So this is the best selling games from Xbox in 2024 right, I'll run down the whole list and then we'll we'll pick a few out which surprised us. There's a few on here. I'm just thinking, wow, that really I mean. But anyway, same same mate. So we've got Seven Days to Die. Avatar, frontiers of Pandora, call of Duty, black Ops 6, dragon Age, the Veil Guard, dragon Ball, sparking Zero, dragon's Dogma 2,. Ea Sports College Football 25, ea Sports FC 25, ea Sports Madden NFL 25, farman Simulator 25, microsoft Flight Simulator 2024,. Mlb the Show 24, nba 2K25, nhl 25, power World, phasmophobia, star Wars Outlaws, the Lord of the Rings, return to Moria, warhammer 40,000, space Marines 2, and we wrap up with WWE 2K24. Now the very first one surprised me Seven Days to Die.

Speaker 1:

Well, I know very little about Seven Days to Die or the Avatar game. To be honest with you, I was looking more of Call of Duty, which we'll talk about in a second. So what surprised you with Seven Days to Die? Is it a mid-game?

Speaker 2:

Well, if it's the one I'm thinking of, which I'm just Googling to make sure it is, isn't that the one that came?

Speaker 1:

out Survival game. Yeah, it came out Zombies.

Speaker 2:

I had that on the PS4, like 2014,. Something like that.

Speaker 1:

Mate, you're right, it came out in 2013, I think, and I'm thinking how's that in the top sales of? Yeah.

Speaker 2:

I don't. I don't even know anyone was playing this, but yeah, yes, an open world game.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a first person shooter like a zombie. That's exactly what we said. The only thing I can think of.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I know a lot of people used to play this online and it used to be quite good.

Speaker 1:

Does DLC?

Speaker 2:

count, I don't know. And maybe there's been new DLC and maybe this is because this is on sales. I take it not on Games Pass downloads. So this is on sales, so it must have been cheap, must have had a big sale on and there's loads of people bored at DLC. I don't know, but that's a Mate.

Speaker 1:

It's a big, big shock.

Speaker 2:

That's not an 11-year-old game, that's a last-gen game. Yeah, but fair play, they're getting their money's worth out of that. Another one, next one down Avatar. That surprised me. I mean, I bought that on PS5. I didn't like it at all. It was a typical Ubisoft map covered in question marks. Didn't do it for me. I know a lot of people like it, you know fair play, but I know that game didn't do great, so I'm surprised.

Speaker 1:

You know again, though, maybe there was a big sale on that and a lot of people snapped up, yeah maybe this speaks volume for why they've had to change their marketing strategy with putting some of these games in Game Pass. If this is what they've come up with in 2024, they can't just keep putting all their eggs in one basket, betting on a sport horse every year, um, and obviously we can see that's a majority of their money coming in, because if any of those guys decide to cut a deal with another console, um, with exclusivity rights for a few months, then obviously it's going to blow them out the water. So maybe that's what's made them realize. Hold on a minute. We're running on sport games here.

Speaker 1:

I was shocked as well with Call of Duty, because well, I wasn't actually, because if you haven't got a Playstation, you had no choice, because on Playstation, black Ops 6 was available to play through the premium subscription service day one for free. So I guess if you had an Xbox, you had no choice of it, and obviously Black Ops is one of the more favoured franchises.

Speaker 2:

Was it Black Ops on Games Pass or was it not?

Speaker 1:

No, I think it was only on the PlayStation Premium. I think that was why I activated it again. It didn't come up. This is the new one, latest one.

Speaker 2:

So I take it then this must have been a deal that was already in place, whereas then, because obviously you know Microsoft owns Call of Duty now, so take it from going forward, they'll drop the games past day one, I suppose.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it definitely was on PlayStation. I remember trying it. I'll tell you what I got premium just for it, because Seb raved about the story mode, the campaign, that's it, yeah.

Speaker 2:

I'll tell you what surprised me as well Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Now I'll tell you what surprised me, because if you're into Microsoft Flight Simulator, you play on a PC Well yeah, but not only that, it's a lot of hours that game. So if you had Microsoft Flight Simulator, I would have thought surely you'd have Games Pass, You'd just play it on there. But this is one the best-selling games. That's strange, isn't it? I mean, unless the list covers PC and PC games, have bought it rather than signed up to Games Pass.

Speaker 1:

I don't know, I mean the others, like you know. Madden, I mean, surely that's a game that would attract Games.

Speaker 2:

Pass subs, not sales. That's weird.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I mean Madden EA Sports FC25.

Speaker 2:

Always going to be there, aren't they?

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we heard about I'm not even surprised by Farming Simulator, but yeah, we've heard about Cottage Football and obviously, mlb the show. We all know that George, host and director of the show, has brought 900,000 copies, just himself, and they're actually stored in a basement in El Paso. And that is actually one of the reasons why he had to vacate earth and uh and head onto starlink out of space, because he had to. Just he had such debts creeping up. You know he'd done all this, now pay later, and the boy did not pay. That's what happened to you.

Speaker 1:

Try and get 900 000 copies of the show. So, but well done, you got it. You got it. You got it in the top 20. But I tell you what this I was quite surprised with and it's saying we haven't got seb on here. So if you're listening, please comment in the discord, let us know, because I know you're a dragon ball fan. But we've got um dragon ball sparking zero and I think that got really good ratings. Actually I remember talking about it, and also last year another one that didn't surprise me is power world.

Speaker 2:

I've got a colleague at work who's playing power world and he's uh, he's mad. He says it's fantastic, he loves it, even though they are still probably getting their bums sued by Nintendo at the moment because of the Pokemon leaks. He said it's a fantastic game. He's really enjoying that.

Speaker 1:

Star Wars Outlaws even though that's a shock again. Rgt, if you think about it, if everyone's given it you know, say it's a good Ubisoft game, but it's a 7, 8 out of 10. And it's in their top 20 best-selling games of 2024.

Speaker 2:

I'll tell you why that is. I think AAA games were a bit thin on the ground last year, so a lot of people who wouldn't have normally bought it did buy it, that's true, listen back to the Ponzi's.

Speaker 1:

I was bringing games back from 2009.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, Dragon's Dogma 2, that sort of went quiet. But I but I know there's a big fan base for that, so that's done well.

Speaker 1:

Lord of the Rings. That must have skipped me by. Yeah, it did me. What sort of Lord of the Rings game is that?

Speaker 2:

I don't know that one. I don't really know a lot about it, to be honest.

Speaker 1:

I haven't played a Lord of the Rings game since PS2. It says it's a survival game.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah, that one is definitely 2023, survival video Again.

Speaker 1:

oh yeah, that one is definitely 2023 survival video. Again, it's 2023, it's not even 2024 very, very shocked by that.

Speaker 2:

Well, I wonder, like you say, there's older games on here. On a year that was a bit thin on AAA games, so they've dropped sales on older games, which have then obviously gone well. So I think this list reflects the year we had, I think, for AAAs.

Speaker 1:

Space Marine 2, I mean, yeah, that was a big game.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, people loved that that was in most people's games of the year.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, that's fair, fair enough. And obviously WWE, that's coming on very strong. My daughter always played that.

Speaker 2:

Phasmophobia. That's been quite a popular survival horror. I often hear her screaming and just playing that game, so I think it's quite popular, so that's done quite well. But yeah, it was a mixture of your standard ones you'd expect to be on and a few surprises A mixed bag.

Speaker 2:

Mixed bag. Definitely, definitely a mixed bag there, scott. I think. Well, that's the news wrapped up. Brilliant again, scott, very good, I think now we'll probably go on to let everyone know about our tears. I think, um, yeah, um, it's first time listening to the show. We say this every week and I know if you're a regular listener you're probably thinking rgt, you keep going on about this. You have to say we'll blitz through it fairly quick for you. All right, if you're a new listener to the show, the show is always going to be free. Always is free.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 2:

Then we have got seal master elliot sealed baby then we have this one sexy sort of dark horse guy that sometimes I speak to, but I know him. He's absolutely gorgeous.

Speaker 1:

Now he's marathon gaming oh god, it gave me a little bit of a fat sangief treatment there. I really, I really like that.

Speaker 2:

Oh, you deserve it, that got me going.

Speaker 1:

I'll tell you who got me going. When we was doing the Challenge Accepted I really thought I put in about 10 to 20 hours over the course of the month and I got one crown right and it was hilarious For anyone who was in a Discord. This next subscriber and supporter of the show is Ginge. Subscriber and supporter of the show is Ginge. Big shout out to Ginge. Anyone who's listened to the show a long-time listener will know he wins all the competitions. He's a very good gamer. If you're a first-time listener to the show, I will sum up sort of player Ginge is Never played. Fall Guys right.

Speaker 1:

Myself and other people in the Discord community and fellow friends and fans of the show were all competing to get the most crowns of the show. We're all competing to get the most crowns. We had a whole three or four weeks to do it. Anyway, ginge was busy. He manages to log on. All of a sudden he logs on, he messages in the group. He finds out he's got about four hours to get a score in. So he thought, oh, in four hours he's a good gamer. He might get a crown. 20 minutes later there's your first one. 20 minutes later that there's three. He just smashed the crowns, I bet and he gets up.

Speaker 2:

I said to you unlocking the costume mate he is another level. Yeah, bless him. I know he had a. He had a trying month and I thought if he do come in late on this, he will get some crowns, because that guy can game. I mean, he can pick any game up first time and he picked it up. So well done again. So he is now. What six-time champion is he now?

Speaker 1:

Mate, I've lost count. He's in his own league. I don't know. It's like, imagine if someone won a Champions League each year and then you're like, oh, they're too good, we need to give them another trophy. That's the sort of thing with Gini.

Speaker 2:

That's the sort of thing with Ging. He is a UCP champ.

Speaker 1:

Listen, if you're good at games, please help us out and get in the Discord, because he's battering us every month. He really is Sorry. The next one RGT on the list there underneath Ging.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that is the wonderful Harvey Retro.

Speaker 1:

And then we have got the beautiful Emma Sharp. Thank you, a big shout out to Emma Sharp and then we've got the beautiful Emma Sharp.

Speaker 2:

Thank you, A big shout out to Emma Sharp. And then we've got. Well, we know he's not nowhere near Berlin, but we've got no idea where Greg is, but he's nowhere near Berlin.

Speaker 1:

Then we have got Mumsy, so big shout out to Mumsy. Well done, mumsy. I almost made you laugh when I say that Well done, Mumsy.

Speaker 2:

Then we've got the RGT Fan Club.

Speaker 1:

Then we have got Pete Brocklehurst. Can't believe I made you read out your own RGT Fan Club. Apologies, mate.

Speaker 2:

I should have done that. No, you're right. Then we've got legendary Billy Marmite.

Speaker 1:

And this is good because it means I get Simon Pryor, who I love, and you get stuck with.

Speaker 2:

Has contract me obliged, I have to say this as sexy as possible. It is oh fat. This.

Speaker 1:

as sexy as possible, it is oh fat sankeef right, anyway, right before people tune off, because normally this is when we get to the end of the show and we talk about the games we want to be playing, right, yeah? And then you know, we're normally towards the end and we say goodbye to everyone. Now we might have to stall the show for a second because I don't know if you've seen on our, on our little internal Discord, we've got Triple S. Sebastian is trying to log in to the show. He's trying to join us because apparently he's got some breaking news. Oh wow, and it cannot wait.

Speaker 1:

It can't wait, so he's going to come in in a moment. Hot to come in. It's hot off the press, so he's about to come in any second we'll chat.

Speaker 2:

Shall we go with what we're hoping to play this week? Yeah, we'll go with what we're hoping to play.

Speaker 1:

So make sure, guys, if you normally turn off at this point, you shouldn't be. You should be listening, you should be intrigued, but even more reason to stay is at any moment. So, yeah, we'll discuss what we're hoping to play RGT.

Speaker 2:

I feel like I might as well start it off. I take it Jamboree's going to be top of this list.

Speaker 1:

Well, that's the thing. I can't see myself playing any game other than Mario Party, jamboree the only other. You know, I'll reorder that Switch game the dinosaur one because that looked quite cute, but that, the only other. You know. I'm going to reorder that Switch game the dinosaur one because that looked quite cute, but that's not coming out until about a week's time, in February. I do want to go on Game Pass and see what's going on with the old Ninja Gaiden, but to be honest with you, mate, from what I've got in the calendar this week, I'm just obsessed with Mario Party and Jamboree.

Speaker 1:

It's so good to be into a game. You know when you're really into a franchise and you're just loving it and I'm not aware. I'm not bothered about a backlog. Haven't got some other games I need to play, so I'm just happily to be focused. Channel vision, a little horse running in my lane, a little dog coming out of the races. I'm just going to be playing that and if anyone's listening, that has got Mario Party Jamboree. Give me a shout, I'll send you my switch code.

Speaker 2:

Let's play a game online together, because it's a lot more fun with friends it might be worth if a few people in the discord have got it. How many players can you play online?

Speaker 1:

I think on the board, I think it's just I'm assuming it's just four actually but obviously the marathon modes and all that, there's like 20-30 players, and then the other one where you're fighting bowser, I think there might be eight players. Uh, but the actual mario party ball game itself, I think, is for um, but yes, but literally all I've been playing, but um rgt, what have you been? What are you hoping to play?

Speaker 2:

sorry, I should say um, I am gonna be all over social soccer again because I am loving that game. That's a quick pick up and play arcade football, which I'm really gonna be enjoying. I am going to be all over social soccer again because I am loving that game. I said quick pick up and play arcade football, which I'm really going to be enjoying, and playing some more of yeah, I want to get that one as well.

Speaker 1:

Actually, to be fair, when you mentioned it, the way you described it, I thought you was going to say there was a butt coming, but no if you're a sensible soccer fan, you'll be all over that.

Speaker 2:

So definitely if you're a fan of old school arcade soccer with a little bit added to it, get that. There'll be some more borderlands, I think. Um, but before I go on, I think we have to introduce the legendary triple s. Sebastian has joined us. How you doing set?

Speaker 3:

hey guys, can you hear me, can you see me? Well, yeah, we can hear you loud and clear.

Speaker 1:

The visuals are are perfect, the audio is perfect and we have already told the listeners. We said stick around. It's a time of the show where we tell everyone what we hope to play. We've done the subscriber list and then we normally disappear. So I said look, do not adjust your dials, Do not turn off, Because we have got the legendary Seb all the way over from the States and he needs to tell us some very important news. And I'm excited. I don't even know what it's about.

Speaker 3:

Glad to see you. Glad to see you, glad to hear from you. I didn't want to interrupt the show, didn't want to make it all about me or anything like that, but there was some video game news that I thought normally I would have said, oh, this could wait till next week. But y'all did an xbox centric show this week. But y'all talked about the direct right?

Speaker 3:

yeah, pretty did indeed yeah so, in light of that, it just broke that the dam has been broken, so to speak. You know, like gamers, gamers have been worried about this for a while now and the band-aid has just been ripped off. One of the big xbox exclusives now is now coming to multi-platforms. This isn't just the four. You know where it was grounded intimate sea of thieves and um, what was it grounded? Pyramid sea of these and high five rush. Yeah. No, the one of the biggest exclusives that xbox has had in their lineage is now coming to other platforms this has just been announced, by the way is this.

Speaker 2:

Can we have a guess?

Speaker 3:

yeah, go ahead, I'm biting my lip.

Speaker 2:

I can't guess. I'm thinking Halo, how do you say it? How do you pronounce it? Halo?

Speaker 3:

I thought you said Halo, halo, halo.

Speaker 2:

Halo, yeah, I'm thinking Master Chief Collection coming over to PS5.

Speaker 3:

Okay, Scott, what's your guess?

Speaker 1:

I'm too excited. I'm rocking. Anybody watching YouTube. You think I've got a stray jacket on. I'm biting my lip and rocking backwards and forwards. So I'm excited. Seb, just give it to me, I can't guess.

Speaker 3:

All right. So Forza horizon 5 no now has been announced for ps5 coming this spring. Really by panic, yes, and we got details so developed by panic button. The same content as the xbox, xbox slash, pc expansions will also be available for purchase. Horizon realms free content update coming to all platforms. All plat that. So this is specific to the, the forza news blog that um just posted. A lot of news stories are running with. This is now been officially sanctioned and everything by a lot of the big outlets are co-signing this news so you got your itns and all that, so it looks like the the dam has been broken.

Speaker 3:

This is the biggest exclusive so far. If forza can go, then everything. Yeah, I mean that's pretty much xbox.

Speaker 2:

Now is well, they are officially third party. Now, aren't they?

Speaker 1:

they are a third party yes, they are, and that and that sums up for anyone who wasn't sure or wasn't believing I think.

Speaker 2:

I mean, forza horizon was one of the main reasons I got the series x, because I I love those games. I think they're brilliant. Um, coming over to playstation, yeah, I'm happy with that. I think, if, if, yeah, if you're an xbox fan boy, you're probably going to be a bit annoyed with that news that one of your best-selling and biggest exclusives is now dropping on your competitor. But for me, I mean how Xbox are at the moment and their 2024 was a very mixed bag, and how Games Pass numbers have been dropping. Games past numbers have been dropping. If you want to make bank, well, if you put that game over, you're probably going to sell quite a few copies because, um, I think people are going to be all over it. To be honest, um, can I?

Speaker 1:

can? I just saw it rgt. Can I just put in and say something because I think this would be quite I thought you was going to mention it just there, but when I know you're a fan of pausa and you obviously played the game, I remember you're talking about it. So I hope I haven't dreamt this. But obviously we've both raved about and we all have how good that dual sense PlayStation controller is with the triggers you know with it. Now we've spoke before and I'm pretty sure I mean it's a long time ago. We're talking like early last year. I remember you saying on the show when I was listening and you said like how good the game was, but how good it would have been if it was on that PlayStation controller.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I think that was, because obviously with the triggers you get that feedback Because the door sets. Yeah, yes, I think that was Forza Motorsport I was talking about. But yes, still for Forza.

Speaker 3:

Oh, right right.

Speaker 2:

But even for Forza Horizon with the added triggers and the haptics everything is going to be good.

Speaker 3:

I mean, will I buy forza horizon on the ps5? Uh, yeah, I probably will.

Speaker 2:

Um, I love the game. Are you really you're gonna double?

Speaker 3:

dip. Yes, I will um, but I'll tell you one thing.

Speaker 2:

I'll tell you one thing bye, bye the crew. The crew's gone, he's picking it up last week. Yeah, but everyone said this is our version of forza on PS5, Forza Horizon. Well, if you've now brought Forza Horizon across, I think Ubisoft are thinking oh no, that's another game the Crew Killer.

Speaker 1:

That's dead. Get that in a title of a show the Crew Killer, yeah so yeah, xbox kills the crew.

Speaker 2:

I mean, can I ask you?

Speaker 3:

something though though, like you said, the crew like, do you not even mention?

Speaker 2:

like great turismo like that's a playstation exclusive.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, but race the game.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's a different game, isn't it? It's more of a sim rather than, like horizon, an open world arcadey game. I think grand turismo is fine. I mean, they won't. I can't see him bringing forza motorsport over. Um, it just wouldn't compete with grand turismo, but for an open world arcadey game, I think Horizons. It's good what I was just about to say as well. It's going to be weird buying Forza Horizon on a PS5, getting that disc set Xbox Game Studio.

Speaker 1:

Even you saying it's weird, I can't imagine the cover art. It's just weird, do you not think? I don't know, it's just odd.

Speaker 2:

It's just odd to me. They're going to, they're going to double dip with that, aren't they?

Speaker 1:

It's like I should see a Mario on an Xbox case, you wouldn't believe it, would you? You'd be like, no, this is bootleg. This is something from Stingray Fan.

Speaker 2:

I'm not buying this. Do you know what I mean um? Can I read?

Speaker 3:

something out to y'all, um, really quick, yeah, please do all right. So phil spencer um, phil spencer was on a couple of podcasts this week, uh, where he basically stated, um, the following when you know, like there is still uh, there's still a picture by xbox. However, the sales of the units continue to climb sharply the more xbox third-party ambitions and everything is an xbox marketing continues to spool up. Spencer said exclusively this about that um, I want people to pick hardware based on the capabilities of that hardware and the choices that they want to make about where they want to play. We want our hardware to win based on the capabilities we have, hardware critical and fundamental to what Xbox is, not trying to gatekeep the games off of different places. We feel like gatekeeping games is not the way of the future. We feel like this is a winning strategy that is going to pivot us into a, into the next tier of xbox, and perhaps move us into a closer, closer space with our competitors so guys what do y'all think about that?

Speaker 2:

I think personally. I mean, it is phil spencer, for a start. Let's just remember that he does say some off-the-cuff things at times, but it's a weird thing to say Donald Trump of gaming or something is that he does.

Speaker 2:

Well, it was. It was only well. It was about 12 months ago when he said you know there'll be no other games coming across as of our exclusives driver system. You know he's, you know so he does sometimes get caught up what he says. But also it's a strange thing to say about hardware when the Xbox series S has been such a handbrake on the releases, so third party games tend to play on a PS5 better than they have on the series X because of the series S handbrake.

Speaker 2:

So I think for him to say our hardware will try and win through unless they've got new hardware coming out that we don't know about yet, I think you know it's a strange thing to say, considering how well the PS5's third-party games have been playing and sales figures, you know, like we said last week, november, that was five to one, you know. So there's a big gap to make up. So I'm not sure they're wanting the hardware to win through. I think for them selling their exclusives on their leading competitive systems, I think they've been backed in a corner to do that because of the acquisitions they've made, because of the billions they've spent. Yet Games Pass numbers have either plateaued or fell away. The hardware hasn't sold. I think they've almost. Microsoft have said to Xbox it's time to start making some bank and push your games under other systems. So I'm not sure. I think he's you know he's doing a confident sort of speech there saying for the hardware, but I think it's more that they've probably been backed in a corner there. To be honest, what do you think, scott?

Speaker 1:

Mate, I agree with what you're saying, to be honest with you. We've. But I agree with what you're saying, to be honest with you. Um, we've been talking for one maybe you guys been talking to it maybe two years, um, and we talked about the direction xbox are going, leaving the hardware and getting things and other systems. So we all knew this was coming.

Speaker 1:

It's just that this is such a big step. It kind of just seems a little bit of a shock, I suppose, doesn't it? There's a little bit of um all happening at once, but you know, this is things we knew was going to happen. But this is just a big, big, like I said, it's a big step and it's the start of a year as well, um, with a lot of big games that's going to be coming out. It's kind of like gta is going to really dominate. It's kind of like it's setting its foot of where it wants to be in the market, where it wants to be going forward. It's just that's a big thing. Just to announce, I feel, like out of nowhere. So maybe there was some pressure. It's a very and then you know, with the time of day it is now as well, I mean on a Thursday it's a little bit odd and I think them other four games were.

Speaker 2:

They were testers. They put them cross, said look, let's just see. Let's just see what happens with these. We'll see. A fees has been quite a big success on the ps5. There's a lot of players online playing that high five rush, you know yeah, it's. It's weird as well, because they're almost the games that would draw people to games fast, but you're now taking that element out, but then I suppose you're selling them and making bank on on the sales. So it's, it's a weird. Only though, they know what the best thing to do is.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's a business in the day.

Speaker 2:

For business-wise, maybe they're trying to find their own space. You know, sony had a big exclusive single-player games Nintendo. They have their own area. They've got the handheld. They're less powered, but they have their own. You know, their own fans. They go off in their own direction, they do their own thing. So maybe this is Xbox saying well, we're going to veer away from what PlayStation are doing. We'll be third party, but we'll also have hardware as well. Maybe this is them trying to distance themselves from a console war, you know.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, because, let's be honest, I mean you said it on a show last time RGT, I think you said PlayStation outseeing Xbox. I think you said eight to one, Five to one, that was in November, November figures.

Speaker 2:

yeah, when they released the November figures.

Speaker 1:

So they're already a third in a three-horse race.

Speaker 2:

So if you can't Time to do something different. You know You've got to do something different. Do you think this is a good move or not?

Speaker 3:

I, so I'm of two minds. You know, like, if I'm being honest with myself, business move, I think they're. I think they're in a pickle, because I do think, well, hold on before I answer, though, what? Did y'all guys think of the developer direct from last week?

Speaker 1:

like honest opinions, like once there was job right I think there was a lot of solid games. I'd say it was a good like eight. There was big, big games. I'm quite surprised that they're all going to Game Pass. So it's like we were saying earlier in the show. We said if just one of those games is in Game Pass, it wouldn't necessarily attract new people to Game Pass. If people with Game Pass it'd be like oh, that's cool, a reason to keep subscription. But the fact that they've three or four big games, they all looked really, really solid games.

Speaker 1:

You got a jrpg in there, you're the first person shoot you a little bit everything. And they're big, big games. Um, especially ninja gaiden. They're all like released with the day one. So it's like they're trying to get more people all of a sudden all at once because, like rgt said, if you release those four games within a four-week window, people can't afford to buy all of them. They're going. They're 60, 70 quid each. So I think it's quite clever to get some new audience over to Game Pass. I was actually quite surprised by that. Would have thought there'd be more games, but for the four or five I saw they were big titles Me too.

Speaker 3:

RGC. What did you think? What would you give it?

Speaker 2:

I thought it was really good. I thought it was strategic, very strategic. I thought you've got a JRPG in there. Try and pull over some of the JRPG fans from PlayStation. Try and get your foot down a bit. More Games Pass in Japan. We all know they don't do very well in Japan, xbox, and they always have a lack of JRPGs. So having a JRPG on the system, I think, is a good idea. Then you've got Doom as well. There's a big Doom following. So I thought the game selection was pretty good and I thought that looked pretty decent. So it's even more surprising that they seem to have been doubling down on Games Pass to then suddenly announce a few days later that Forza Horizon is coming over to PlayStation. It almost seems a mixed message to me. But yeah, I was quite impressed with it. To be honest, games definitely are played there. I mean to me. But yeah, it's, it's, I was quite impressed with it. To be honest, it's games definitely I play there and that was almost. I mean, I canceled my games pass.

Speaker 3:

But with games, if they're regularly coming like that, I would definitely be interested in in renewing okay, so I to answer your question, though, because now that I got a good sense of where how y'all are feeling about it. Like doom the dark ages comes out may 15th. Um, that one is you know that one has an installed fan base, and installed fan base it's, um, you know, like doom is. It already brings in new people pretty much every time it comes around. That's coming out may south of midnight it's half of midnight, I think is their answer to kena bridge of spirits. Whenever k Kena came out, it was more of the PlayStation exclusive side. Now it's multi-platform.

Speaker 3:

This is almost like Forspoken meets Kena Bridge of Spirits in a lot of ways even though it is very different than both of those games, but that's where those comparisons are being made. April 8th 2025. Claire Obscure Expedition 33 launches on april 24th 2025. You look at that game, what's the first series? You think about final fantasy. You know, like it has a very final fantasy kind of feel to it. Final fantasy 16 um 16 was exclusive. Final fantasy 7 the whole series has been exclusive to play so far. This is kind of their Final Fantasy game that, even though it's not going to be exclusive, it comes straight to Game Pass, ninja Gaiden, coming straight to Game Pass 4 and 2. So big wins there.

Speaker 3:

What I'm thinking, though, is like they didn't bring up Abowed. Like Abowed comes out in Februarybruary uh, february 18th. They also have left a lot of window for later this fall. That leaves that leaves something big there. You know, like xbox is, xbox is like they're in the habit now of putting out one, at least one big game. In the fall we got call of duty. We know Call of Duty comes out every year around November. There's a room there for a fable, perhaps. You know like there's a lot of room for another big installment.

Speaker 3:

What I'm getting at, guys, is that they're strategically coming out with a lot of good titles, that if these games land it is a momentum shift, it is a momentum swing.

Speaker 3:

But I don't, like, like I'm an old school gamer I wish that I think they could have had found momentum, especially maybe not this generation, but with, like, the litany of games that they're coming out with, all of these now that they've been announced, like from about on, hit, like and start to get more than just the six out of tens, seven out of tens.

Speaker 3:

If they're starting to put out kits, then you know it's just like with the 360 generation. A lot of those people would have came into the ecosystem, bought the consoles. I think they gave up a little too soon on that like I think they, because I'm like, I think like for everything that they're putting out and that they have announced, with Fable coming out, with Gears, the Gears prequel and all that kind of stuff, I think they had a chance to be a huge moment in Switch. Just like the PS4 generation didn't start off with a bang and the PS3 generation didn't start off with a bang, especially the PS3 generation didn't start off with a bang, especially the ps3 generation. It wasn't until the tail end of the ps3 generation, that playstation started to gain ground again with games like the last of us, you know like.

Speaker 3:

So I think they gave up too soon. But I also see that they're. They're tired of losing with the same rules in place, of saying, hey, we need to come up with exclusives, we need to come up with a cool box. We've lost that, that game twice now because they're going to lose this generation. They lost the xbox one generation. So this is them trying to change the rules. You know like saying, hey, like we're still going to make hardware, because phil spencer said earlier this week, they're committed to the handheld, they're committed to the, the, the, they're committed to the next generation of Xbox. I question if there's a generation after that one after this next generation.

Speaker 3:

But I do think, like my guess, and this is from everything that I've seen at CES, from everything that I've I could see, like their momentum, their like their thought process, you know, like everything they're showing us, it seems like they're thinking ahead of saying, hey, we're going to be a console manufacturer, but we want to be Steam, like we're moving towards that Steam life. They want to be Steam.

Speaker 2:

Sorry to interrupt. It's also you've just made me think. So, as Forza Horizon 5 5, is it coming to ps5? Oh yeah, that's, that's that is um. It's specifically the article mentioned, ps5 do you think, if there's, they've got a gap. They haven't announced anything for autumn, winter time. Do you think they're going to release forza horizon 5 on the ps5, gain a nice new audience on playstation and then launch forza horizon 6 in the autumn to try and bring people over to games bar?

Speaker 3:

I don't think so. I think for one. I do think, like the studio is likely working on the next forza game, but they, like that same studio just put out murder sport and that playground studios is heavily working on fable right now I think fable is that priority yeah.

Speaker 3:

So I think fable is the priority there. But, like um, to go back to what I was kind of getting at, like I you know, like I do think they're working more. I think they're working more on software than they are on hardware right now because, like the reason they're not putting out a 0.5, a place xbox series you know whatever they want to call it like their version of the pro model, this generation, is because they're not thinking about that, like they're thinking about software, and I think that's the right move. I do think in the software bunch is like I think they're have y'all both heard the stories about the, the xbox, that xbox is like now trying to work more closely with the handheld market like with asus and all that kind of yeah, yeah

Speaker 1:

yeah, so that feels to me like a steam move, you know, like steam yeah, I was gonna say while you guys are talking, I think I was thinking to myself this is gonna sell a lot of switch of um. See, maybe think switch a lot of steam decks. And obviously if the switch is doing so well with a handheld and we can get such good technology like oled on the handheld and how good obviously got the playstation portal now and how good the steam deck is, and obviously they're losing that battle, it makes sense to jump back in front with nintendo with a take in the games on a go.

Speaker 2:

I think that's where it's going. It's gonna sell some steam decks.

Speaker 1:

I'm telling you it's making me want to get one right now I think it's bigger than that.

Speaker 3:

Uh, friends, I think it's like. I think they're working like, just like just a little bit ago, like under a month ago, steam announced that they're putting their os, their operating system, on on a lot of different devices. It'll be available on third-party devices, so that means the Asus ROG Ally and a lot of the Nova and a lot of those other PC handhelds can now start putting Steam OS on there, which is a game changer. By the way, that, to me, is like Steam OS is like having you know how, like a lot of people complain about, like Windows not being optimized for phones and all that kind of stuff. Steamos is like is the operating system of PC gaming. Like that's the thing going forward. I think Xbox is now working on their operating system of saying like when they say this is the Xbox is to get everyone accustomed to having they want to do what Steam is doing. Like Steam and Xbox are more closely aligned to their same like mannerisms right now than PlayStation.

Speaker 3:

Xbox, nintendo, xbox. It's like Xbox is thinking more like Steam than they are like the other two manufacturers, thinking more like steam than they are like the other two manufacturers. Because, like I wouldn't be surprised if their start they make their own operating system with the, especially with their handheld, coming up of saying like hey, we want, we want you to just put our operating system or our app on anything. You have, everything's an xbox. We don't necessarily we. We would love to have your sales and hardware, but we don't need it. Like we it. We want to be more ubiquitous of the app store on your phone than the actual hardware that you see in a they're going more for that.

Speaker 2:

I think they're really trying to hit that casual gamer market, where people don't play games very often. So they're not going to invest in a Switch 2. They're not going to invest in a PS5 or even an xbox. But everyone's got prime, everyone's got a, you know, a stick. If you've got a fire stick and you can play it, you're more likely to take a subscription up. If you're a casual gamer, when all you've got to do is just sign up for 15 bucks a month, you're more likely to do it. So I think that's more where they're aiming long term and I think, yes, they are going a different route, but I think that's probably the route they're aiming at, because you know the big console sales and the big exclusives Sony have got. The on-the-go and the handheld market is Steam and Switch.

Speaker 2:

So I'm thinking where else is there a gap? Well, casual gamers, if we can get them on board on Games Pass, with not having to have hardware, there must be millions out there. Yeah, that's a great shout. Yeah, you know. So I think that's more where they're aiming, where they can get more and more people and then, you never know, you might convert people to gamers and they might then then turn around and say, oh, I might get a new xbox. So you know it's. It's a gamble, but I think it's. I think it could be the way they're heading. I think it's somewhere they've got ahead to be honest, yeah.

Speaker 1:

What have they got to lose, rgt? They're already losing.

Speaker 3:

Let's be honest, yeah so I mean, if you're losing, you change the rules, right exactly yeah, yeah. Now let me ask, let me ask you all this before we go, like I, before this year is up do y'all see any other xbox exclusives or what? What most people thought of Xbox exclusives coming over to PlayStation or the Switch 2?

Speaker 1:

I think it will. I couldn't say which, but I know because they already teased, didn't they, on how Switch 2 was a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 2:

I think you'll get Halo Master Chief Collection on Switch 2.

Speaker 2:

I think that'll be fairly early on there, um, and I think they might even do a joint launch on ps5. You can see that coming. I think they'd like to. You know for them that's that's making money off your back catalog, which is already sitting there. You know, with a little bit of optimization you can. You can make bank on that. So I think you'll see a couple like that over, maybe maybe a gears collection, I don't know, but I think you'll see one or two by the end of the year, I think I think you're right.

Speaker 1:

I think you could see gears go over as well. I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. I know we we touched on that briefly before rgt because we mentioned about the, the feast of games coming over um, like with diablos and stuff, and then made you think, well, what else could it probably handle?

Speaker 3:

Some of those Gears Remastered is. Gears Remastered is old enough that I think like a Switch 2 could run it as well.

Speaker 1:

Oh, definitely Halo Master Chief, if you're looking at I think they're saying a PS4 sort of graphics is what I think people would think of the Switch 2. Yeah, so if you think about it, there's quite a lot you could probably get on there. You might not have realized.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, Sorry to interrupt guys.

Speaker 1:

I just thought you were going to say that.
