Unofficial Controller Season 6 Episode 281

Send us a text

The gaming gauntlet has been thrown down! In our first-ever subscriber quiz special, Digital Monkery challenges five UCP community members to prove their gaming knowledge through 30 brain-teasing questions that span decades of video game history.

From counting buttons on a PS1 controller to naming the ghosts in Pac-Man, our contestants battle through increasingly difficult trivia. The stakes? A custom-made Cards Against UCP game for the winner, with gaming vouchers for the runners-up. Witness the triumph and frustration as participants dig deep into their gaming memories, occasionally punctuated by Luigi's colorful Italian outbursts when answers prove elusive.

Beyond the competitive quiz atmosphere, this episode offers a fascinating glimpse into our subscriber community. Between questions and after the final scores are tallied, each participant shares what they've been playing recently – from Dead Space to Assassin's Creed Shadows, Huntdown to Cattle Country. These personal gaming journeys highlight the diverse interests that unite our community while showcasing the genuine connections formed through shared passion.

Speaker 1:

hello and welcome to the Unofficial Controller Podcast, your weekly gaming podcast. That's me again, sarge ET. This is show 281, and it's not just any show this week. That's not me, I'm a lonesome. It's not me with George. It's not me with Scott.

Speaker 1:

This week we have our subscriber, not only Zoom meetup chat, we have a gaming quiz which is kindly done by, well, tom, but you'd know him as digital mongery. He's done 30 questions. We're going to see who is the uh creme de la creme out of the subscribers. See who's going to get the prizes this week.

Speaker 1:

Um, it's going to be a good show with you know, there's been a lot of work gone into it from tom. We're really looking forward to this. Um, some people couldn't make it, which is a shame, but you know, hopefully, if it's successful, run smoothly, we can do it again. You know, in the next couple of times we do this meet up, we can do the quiz again. Um, I think, yeah, I think it's something that could work. So we'll be looking forward to it. It's going to be a good time, I think, um, and I'll introduce you to who we've got. We have got, as you will know from our list at the end of the show. We have got Carlos, we have got TingleTuner, we have got FirmReturns, we have got Badabinkster and we have got Emma Sharp and also we've got the hostess with the mostess, which is Digital Muggery. How are we all doing? People Excellent.

Speaker 3:

Hi, Good thanks.

Speaker 1:

Very Excellent, hi, good to talk to you. Hey, thanks, good, good, good. I will be handing over to DM in a moment to get this show on the road, but, like I said, we'll have 30 questions. Dm will be doing all the scores because he's the guy with all the tech know-how. I'll just be sitting here in the background trying to make myself look busy. But good luck to everyone and I will hand you over now to our very special host, didgeridoo.

Speaker 5:

Hello there. As Tom said, it's 30 questions. We've got three prizes today. The first prize is the unique at the moment Cards Against UCP, which is basically like a very famous card game, but UCP focused. So it will have cards based around things like RGT's love of G1, jockey George's love of baseball shirts and Mumsy and Sexy Lingerie. So that's the first prize. Second prize is going to be a £20 voucher for an online game store of your choice, even if that is Google Stadia, and third place is a £10 voucher for an online game store of your choice, even if that is google stadia, and third place is a 10 pound voucher. Um, so, ultimately, without further ado, shall we get cracking? Is everyone ready?

Speaker 5:

yeah, yeah yeah, ready, yeah, good luck everyone. Um, and in terms of the answers, I'll send them on to rgt to put into show notes or whatever in the future. All right, so question number one To the nearest million how many copies did Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sell for the Mega Drive slash Genesis? While we're waiting for the answers to come through, what's your guess, rgt? Um, do you want me to do it now? Well, actually it's a good point. I'm still waiting for two answers to come through, so it's probably best if you don't say them just yet well, I'll be honest with you I'm stumped straight away I'm stumped straight away.

Speaker 1:

Should I be on the first question? Then again, like they say, if you can't game, you podcast and talk about games. So the knowledge is there. Now I have ripped something down, but I'll wait until you've had all answers in.

Speaker 5:

Ok, I'll just wait for one more answer. Oh, who are we waiting for?

Speaker 1:

No pressure.

Speaker 5:

Oh no, no, he was actually the first one who sent it through. I didn't notice it. We have the answers in. What's your guess, RGT.

Speaker 1:

I was going to say 2.2.

Speaker 5:

I can tell you that you are wrong.

Speaker 1:

I knew I would be One person did get it right.

Speaker 5:

Really, yeah, ooh. I'm not going to say who it was, I. I'm not going to say who it was.

Speaker 1:

I'm going to go straight on to question two. Don't forget everyone. Don't use Google. Don't you dare use Google?

Speaker 5:

Oh yeah, usual pub quiz rules apply.

Speaker 4:

I'm using Bing.

Speaker 5:

So you have your answer in about two years. Yeah, mario's first appearance in a game Was Donkey Kong. What was his official name at this time? I know this.

Speaker 4:

Well, I think.

Speaker 1:

Oh, silence is golden, golden. You can hear the cogs ticking around in people's heads here.

Speaker 5:

They've all got competitive emotions. I'd love to get that. Someone has given the answer of Mark. This is really a short-cut, Nigel.

Speaker 1:

You've got all the answers in? Yeah, I have. I am going to go with Plumber man.

Speaker 4:

Oh.

Speaker 5:

You're not right there, mate.

Speaker 4:

Oh Okay.

Speaker 5:

Nintendo own the rights to two pornographic movies based on Super Mario Brothers. What are they called?

Speaker 1:

I like how you look straight down the lens at me then, tom, I was looking deep into your eyes, mate. I'm sure you were.

Speaker 5:

That's not even a T1 Jockey question.

Speaker 1:

This is a tricky one, guys. Well, for some. I have.

Speaker 5:

You want two titles? No, no, it's basically one title, because the second one is that title two.

Speaker 1:

I have never heard of this.

Speaker 5:

I would not have a clue, so I'll save you for my answer there, because I've never heard of this they were released and then Nintendo bought the rights to them to stop anyone from ever seeing them, and I think they got leaked online about 20 years later.

Speaker 1:

You've gone deep in here man, I said you questioned three Carlos.

Speaker 7:

Two questions or three questions. Two questions in. We're already on the point.

Speaker 5:

Do you know what? That was the last question I wrote.

Speaker 4:

Surprisingly, no one got that right.

Speaker 1:

No, yeah everyone's pretending, everyone's pretending, everyone's pretending. I've never heard of that before.

Speaker 5:

Well, whilst I'm covering up, films on it when you start up minecraft, there is a one in 10,000 chance of seeing an Easter egg. That is a typo in the game's name on the opening screen. What is that typo?

Speaker 1:

This is too hard.

Speaker 5:

There are easier questions, I do promise. Oh, I'm loving TingleT tuners. Uh, response for that one. I might actually share this one with you as well, right away had to keep that one safe yeah I deleted it and retyped it what's your guess, rgt?

Speaker 1:

um, I would probably say they've like missed a letter eight. So it's just something like mincroft or mincraft it's minx raft.

Speaker 5:

They've swapped the c and the e.

Speaker 1:

No one in 10 000 chance of seeing it I'll have to ask my daughter that, because she's put phaser hours in that game. I wonder if she's ever seen that Mince.

Speaker 5:

Raft, I think this is. Is it question five or six? I don't know, I've lost count already Five, I think Everyone has seen the meme. All your base are belong to us. What game is it from? All your what All your base are belong to us.

Speaker 1:

Base are belong to us. Oh Got it. Oh God Got it. I was only talking about this the other day and I'd gone blank, Can't think?

Speaker 2:

What a game. It's brilliant.

Speaker 5:

Give us a clue. It's a game.

Speaker 1:

I don't know. Oh, I cannot remember. You're too hard.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I can't remember You're too hard.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I can't remember. I can remember the platform, I can remember the picture, I can remember that All your bass are belong to us, but I can't.

Speaker 2:

I can remember every word from it.

Speaker 5:

I'm a loon. All your bass belong to us.

Speaker 1:

Mainstream turn on no, that's gone past me.

Speaker 2:

Oh, we all find everyone. You find it tough, or yeah?

Speaker 5:

you know what I'm challenging yeah I mixed up all the questions before I started and we've come up with some of the hardest ones.

Speaker 1:

First, but if everyone's saying hard, then don't worry, everyone's in with a shape, everyone's in with a shape um, what is the konami code?

Speaker 5:

send me, send me that code I've got I know what's in it, but what order?

Speaker 1:

no, no, I know there's a, there's an up up there somewhere and there's an ABAB somewhere in there, but in what?

Speaker 5:

order that is? I don't know. I've got one answer that is ridiculously close.

Speaker 1:

Oh, interesting.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I just love seeing the concentration on everyone's face.

Speaker 4:

I've got this in front of me to practice.

Speaker 1:

Luigi just fired up Contra 99 lives up, isn't he? Yeah, yeah, trying to get them 99 lives.

Speaker 4:

Is it that way around? I'm going that way around.

Speaker 1:

Interesting, I'll be impressed. If people get this, I'll be impressed.

Speaker 5:

No, you haven't got it. Oh what? What's your guess, tom?

Speaker 1:

me? Uh, I would have said, is that something like up down, up down, left right, left right, a b start, or something like that?

Speaker 5:

see, just just like a couple of people have given answers, you've got the right components, just not in the right order.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, that's why I never cheat the games, because I don't have the memory to remember the codes is it?

Speaker 7:

up, up, up, down, down down, left right, left right.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I put left, left, right, right.

Speaker 1:

Yes, you're right, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's left right, left right. That's a tough one. This one's a bit easier. What are we on now? Question seven, I believe, aren't we Question seven? Yeah?

Speaker 5:

Yeah, yeah, the first game in the Final Fantasy franchise was released. For what console.

Speaker 1:

I think, I've got two answers here and I don't know which one to go with. I've got one, that's probably obvious, but one.

Speaker 4:

What's the one obvious?

Speaker 1:

I'm not saying until the answers are in, just in case.

Speaker 4:

Just say it.

Speaker 1:

Tom, I was going to say my shot in the dark one, I was going to say the MSX. But my gut feeling, shall I say my gut feeling one? Yeah, say your gut feeling. My gut feeling one is the Famicom.

Speaker 5:

Famicom NES. I'm accepting both. Yeah, Okay, Question eight how many buttons are there on a standard PS1 controller?

Speaker 2:

Ooh.

Speaker 1:

This could be a bit of a banana skin this there's what right there.

Speaker 4:

Am I allowed to look at it or?

Speaker 1:

I'll hand that over to the task master himself. I'll still get it wrong.

Speaker 5:

I was gonna say all we said was no google. So the interesting thing is, I tested these out my brother last night and he checked it on a controller and still went wrong.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that could be a bit more to this question than what you think.

Speaker 4:

Which standard PlayStation would not control them.

Speaker 1:

Oh, I love the process Luigi's going through. Look at the concentration.

Speaker 7:

Counting.

Speaker 2:

He's looking at the controller, so he's got to get this one right. No, that's what I mean no pressure counting. He's looking at the controller, so he's got to get this one right.

Speaker 5:

no pressure and I'm sure everyone will be pleased to know he has got it right don't swear, luigi, I was going to be editing in a beat there sorry. Chuck E Cheese was founded by Nolan Bushell, which video game company did he co-found.

Speaker 1:

I think I know this one. This could be one of the first ones I get right. I reckon I've probably talked that right up now. I love seeing DM's face because it's just I don't know.

Speaker 7:

I'm loving his shirt. I'm loving the shirt.

Speaker 5:

I tried to get a Vice City background behind me, but I don't have a consistent enough background to get away with it yeah done an old Vice City beach or something in the background.

Speaker 1:

That would have been awesome. Should I give you my guess if you had the answers in? I've had the answers in. I would say I'm pretty sure that it is Atari.

Speaker 5:

And you may or may not be correct with that, tom. Question nine I think, this is is, isn't it ten? I believe, either way, it's a question. Yeah, um, in what year was the first g1 jockey released in japan?

Speaker 1:

jeez, ah, japan, this could, because I'm while people are thinking, I can remember their. I remember watching a documentary about the Japanese and they loved horse race. I remember there were horse race simulators right early on in console life, so I imagine this could be quite early than we think. I might be wrong, but Hmm, ooh. One very, very close answer here I think I'm being a bit too early can I change it, or is it too?

Speaker 5:

late, nope, too late.

Speaker 1:

Have to take your first answer, mate, oh I don't know if I'm overthinking this too much I think I'm a year too early. No, you're not.

Speaker 5:

What are you thinking?

Speaker 1:

RGT. I think I've gone way too early. I was going to say 91. Yeah, you've gone way too early.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, I thought I had a usual problem.

Speaker 1:

Anyway, next question Okay.

Speaker 5:

What was the first video game to be played in space? Ooh Ooh, I don't know what was the first video game to be played in space. Everyone I've tested this on has given the same answer and it's been wrong.

Speaker 4:

And this one can't be that. It's wrong, isn't it?

Speaker 5:

Yeah, and this one has gone for the same answer as everyone else has gone for yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think I've done that right. I think it's you, think it's an obvious answer, but it's not necessarily the one. I don't think, uh was it g1 jockey yeah, all right, I've had all the answers in rgt um, I think I've gone down the wrong, obvious route and I'd say I'd put tetris yeah, you're right there.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, yeah, but are you right that you've gone down the wrong route, or who knows? Wait and see now, this is one I think is one of the more difficult questions. I'm pretty certain carlos is going to get it literally like that no pressure. In the original Legend of Zelda, what unusual feature was built into the Japanese release but not the international release? You've disappointed me, carlos.

Speaker 1:

No, dear man, I'm going to cry myself to sleep tonight. Now Can you read that again for me please? Dm In the original.

Speaker 5:

Legend of Zelda. What unusual feature was built into the Japanese release but not the international release?

Speaker 4:

Oh, Hmm, ooh.

Speaker 1:

Even if we get these wrong, will we expand on our gaming knowledge with this, I think.

Speaker 4:

Hmm.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I don't know, that's a toughie, toughie, toughie. That one, that's going to be a pure guess and I think it's going to be probably wrong. I'd have thought.

Speaker 5:

But I'll have a go. Well done, done, carlos, you haven't let me down brilliant?

Speaker 7:

no, I don't even. I didn't know it, but I know about the hardware, so that's that's what. That's what suddenly triggered it okay.

Speaker 5:

So, as I said before, if it's a question where the answer is a number, whoever gets it closest will get the point. If no one gets it, all right. Yep, so RGT's first show was the Postman Always Knocks Twice back in October 2022. What episode number was that? Oh, jeez.

Speaker 4:

What episode is today?

Speaker 1:

281. 281 is today's yes, I win. Yeah, champion. Yeah, I'll have a pure guess at this because, I'll be honest with you guys, I don't even know myself.

Speaker 5:

I bloody told you it the other day. I know still got no idea.

Speaker 7:

I remember that episode because the show took a real upturn. Does that get me any bonus points?

Speaker 1:

the one man RGT fan club go on then RGT.

Speaker 5:

What episode number was it? I believe it was 137, something like that Almost, as if you remember our conversation the other night.

Speaker 1:

Really, oh, marvellous, that was a pure guess, then, right?

Speaker 5:

Oh, this is one that will interest Badabingster, given what you said before we started recording, in what year was the Google Stadia discontinued? Oh, no idea 2025?.

Speaker 1:

That's a good question. I still don't know anyone who ever actually had one.

Speaker 5:

Did.

Speaker 1:

George not have one.

Speaker 5:

Sorry, did George not have one? No, he's not talking about it.

Speaker 1:

Oh, he did, yeah, but no, he didn't.

Speaker 7:

I think I'm confusing the stadia with the what was the other thing, OUYA?

Speaker 1:

OUYA OUYA. Yeah, that was sort of the first incarnation of that style of console, wasn't it?

Speaker 2:

The Hotpoint Washer.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that was an odd machine, especially running on Android.

Speaker 5:

What's your guess on RGT?

Speaker 1:

I've said 2023.

Speaker 5:

Good for you, mate.

Speaker 4:

It's no.

Speaker 5:

England there at all, is it Of said 2023.

Speaker 1:

Good for you, mate, good for you. It's no England there at all, is it A good?

Speaker 2:

try.

Speaker 5:

Assassin's Creed 2 takes place during the Renaissance. Which Italian city is it based in? There's a few. I've literally gone by what I looked up. This is a trick question.

Speaker 4:

Did you go to three different cities?

Speaker 5:

Well, to be honest, the first answer I've got is correct. Okay, that's fine.

Speaker 4:

I'm hoping it's the main one.

Speaker 1:

We've got mutiny in the camp. How do I? Take people from zoom we've got a troublemaker beers kicked in guinness, I'm sorry.

Speaker 5:

He's bitched and moaned about it and he got it right anyway.

Speaker 4:

So in two languages.

Speaker 5:

They're getting right in two languages. Yes, I know you did it in a second language as well, aren't you? He's after bonus. He's after bonus points, he's after bonus points.

Speaker 1:

Well, as that was, I think I'm right in thinking that was question 15, which means we are halfway through. And as we're steaming through it very quick, I'm going to do a little recap here of the first 15 questions without naming anyone DM. Have we got anyone steaming ahead at the moment?

Speaker 5:

In first place, we've got someone on eight points second place is on six points. We've got two people on five points and one person on two points oh, so it's still actually all to play for.

Speaker 1:

It is very much all to play for. Oh, I'm impressive everyone really, because some of them questions were. I think I probably got like two. I think I think I've probably got two out of that lot, so yeah.

Speaker 6:

We got a wooden spoon prize for the last place.

Speaker 1:

Well, I might as well just give that to myself, I think. No, brilliant, right, I'll let you carry on. Dm Second half of the quiz. Okay, then, according to psnprofiles, Right. I'll let you carry on. Dm Second half of the quiz.

Speaker 5:

Okay then, According to psnprofilescom, how many Klaffman trophies does Bobby have?

Speaker 4:

Couldn't you have said Ginger, he's never done any answer.

Speaker 1:

Everyone would have been straight on Discord.

Speaker 1:

He's got 709 that's crazy as well to think for people who are listening who don't know, ginger is one of our discord community and subscriber. He's on 709 platinums as a little bit of a fact for you. People are working out what what bobby has, but bobby's a one of our co-hosts. He's a platinum hunter as well, so he has a. He has a a vast, vast collection of platinum trophies. Uh, be interesting to see how close people get. Obviously just be another numbers one, so we'll go closest. This gets the points.

Speaker 6:

Yep I can't even imagine getting 100.

Speaker 4:

I've got four, I think.

Speaker 2:

I've not even got one.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I've got 67, I think, but nothing like them sort of levels.

Speaker 3:

I think I've got about 10.

Speaker 1:

Oh, you're doing well, though I find it hard nowadays getting Platinums with doing the shows. You have to keep moving the games on, so you ain't got the time to put into them. Yeah, even 10's on, see, you ain't got the time to put into them, but yeah even 10's good.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, even 10's good. I've got one Platinum, but I only have three PlayStation 5 games.

Speaker 5:

So one out of three.

Speaker 7:

Brilliant.

Speaker 1:

I bet that's Star Wars Outlaws.

Speaker 7:

No, it's not actually, it's Astro.

Speaker 4:

My name is Mayo. Is that what it's called?

Speaker 5:

Yeah, my name is Mayo yeah, what was your guess for that one RGT.

Speaker 1:

I put 379.

Speaker 5:

You would have got the point for that, but you're not playing so it doesn't count. Oh, okay, so this is 17,. I think 17. Who was the lead voice actor on Hogs of War?

Speaker 4:

Oh.

Speaker 6:

What was the game?

Speaker 5:

Bogs of War on the PS1.

Speaker 1:

I think I writ it being confident, but now I'm thinking, no, maybe I'm not that confident.

Speaker 5:

It's one of my favourite games of all time. That is basically what my 30th birthday celebration was.

Speaker 4:

I love his name. I don't know his name, but he was in an advert for Charles Wells. I think it's in Bedford.

Speaker 1:

Fuck Language, sorry, oh, not another F-bomb.

Speaker 4:

Apologise for the swearing I apologise, I'll start swearing in Italian instead. Is there a time limit?

Speaker 5:

I'm trying to think of his name. There's not a time limit but, to be honest, I'm enjoying just watching you being tortured on my screen, just slowly watching him deteriorate into a rage. Watching him slowly become the same colour as his hip and shirt.

Speaker 4:

Oh, I just got a babe.

Speaker 7:

I sent a pass by mistake.

Speaker 4:

I think I got it, I remembered, I remembered.

Speaker 1:

That's a different story. Have you had all the answers in DM?

Speaker 5:

Carlos said he sent a pass by mistake.

Speaker 7:

I sent it again.

Speaker 5:

He sent it again, but it was wrong. Anyway, that's right, that's irrelevant. What's your guess, rgt?

Speaker 1:

um, I think I've got it wrong. I'm thinking of, I think I'm thinking of little big planet, but I put steven fry yeah, you're wrong yeah, what was?

Speaker 5:

okay, uh, what is the name of the sissy in grand theft auto 5?

Speaker 4:

the city. Did you say the city? I thought you said totally something else.

Speaker 1:

Then that's what yeah, that was definitely city, definitely city. Dm's gone on. I'm just confused now. I think I could have this one, I should get it. If I get this one wrong, then there's no point in me even taking part in this, because I mean, I've been absolutely shocking at this.

Speaker 7:

But actually no point me even taking part in this, because I mean I've been absolutely shocking at this.

Speaker 4:

But actually no, I've never played it. I've played it and now I'm going to check, but I think I've put the wrong one yeah, you've put the wrong one, mate.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, rgt what say you? I would say Los Santos language has he spawned again? Yeah, he's an F-bomb machine.

Speaker 5:

I would say Los Santos.

Speaker 1:

Language. He said that has he spawned again? Yeah, he's an.

Speaker 5:

F-bomb machine. At what point do I start docking in points?

Speaker 4:

for swearing. Sorry, I'll stop. I'll definitely stop.

Speaker 5:

Now I'm on workload now, okay, which was the first game to feature a pause feature. I've used feature twice in that question. What's?

Speaker 7:

the question again, sir, the first game to include a pause feature.

Speaker 2:

Pause oh, oh, oh, oh oh.

Speaker 1:

That's a cracking question.

Speaker 4:

That is, that's a Santos how did I get that wrong?

Speaker 1:

the slow meltdown of Luigi goes on in the background. Yeah, I am wrong, but I've had a guess. For some reason that made me think of how you actually done the pause. But I might be wrong, but I'll be honest, mate.

Speaker 5:

It was before my time, so I'm definitely wrong I didn't see it was about.

Speaker 1:

Then, if it's before your time, yeah, yeah, no, I would have been yeah so what?

Speaker 5:

what was your guess before you decided you were wrong?

Speaker 1:

rgt embarrassingly, I put contra yeah, you should be embarrassed.

Speaker 5:

Thank you, okay. So I really have completely lost count of what I think we're on 20 now question 20 I'm glad we're somewhere.

Speaker 1:

I've got some use for being here you're my glamorous assistant I'm not glamorous. You are my debbie mcgee. Say yes, paul, I was only being you'll get that okay you'll like it, but not a lot.

Speaker 5:

Oh, you've got a voice for it well, thank you uh seb has his own podcast, separate from the ecp. What is it called?

Speaker 1:

oh, no, pressure people, we'll find out who's been listening and who hasn't.

Speaker 5:

Hmm, I think rgt was a guest on it at one point.

Speaker 1:

I was a guest on there. Yeah, so obviously you've all listened to that because you'd have followed me over to his his podcast. Why are you all looking so worried for?

Speaker 5:

well, I don't. I don't know why you're saying that rgt, because they're all getting it right are, are they? Yeah, until that one, that's a big story.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, was that mine Okay.

Speaker 5:

RGT what is it called? The Single Player Experience Podcast Indeed All right, this should be a real g Indeed. All right, this should be a real gimme. All right. The ghosts in Pac-Man are called Blinky, pinky, inky and what Ooh.

Speaker 1:

Carlos is straight on his phone there. That's that morning. Carlos is straight. That one, we know that one.

Speaker 7:

I looked it up the other day what the four ghosts were called.

Speaker 1:

He was doing a bit of sport already.

Speaker 5:

You are so close, it's unreal.

Speaker 1:

I think he's gone for the same wrong answer as hell. He had his arms up, never even blessed him.

Speaker 5:

He was ready to celebrate then he had to get his arms up to stop himself from swearing. Yeah.

Speaker 1:

He's distracted himself.

Speaker 7:

I just heard in my head with the arms going up. Mamma Mia, I'm sorry.

Speaker 1:

Mamma Mia.

Speaker 7:

Mamma.

Speaker 1:

Mia Brilliant, everybody stand up for that afternoon.

Speaker 5:

I was going to say we really need George here, just just do the voiceover for the badminton.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, we don't. I'll do it post editing. Give him the script while you go okay.

Speaker 5:

What is the name of the protagonist in half-life? What is the name of the protagonist in?

Speaker 1:

Half-Life. Oh, I have. I've never played Half-Life.

Speaker 4:

No, but I think I know the name.

Speaker 5:

His name is one of the many nicknames I've had in my life.

Speaker 4:

Oh, something to do with sweating.

Speaker 1:

No, wow, wow, wow, anything with sweating. No, wow, that's wow, something to do with sweating.

Speaker 5:

That's a different one of my nicknames. Oh okay, I've never been to Pizza Express either.

Speaker 1:

I think I've got it wrong, but I'm thinking of something else. I've had a go. I've had a go. It's the taken part, as they say. Yeah.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, so what is your guess then? Rgt, alex, that's what I. Yeah, you're wrong mate.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you're wrong that was the spin-off, wasn't it? Yeah, tingle Tunes is. Yeah, you're wrong. Yeah, half-life, that was the spin-off, wasn't it?

Speaker 5:

Half-Life? Yeah, Tingle Tune was the only one who got that right.

Speaker 2:

That's the VR game, isn't it? Half-life Alyx.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, that's why I said that one. But.

Speaker 5:

Hey, how many mainline Call of Duty games are there?

Speaker 6:

Jeez, does that mean Black Ops doesn't count.

Speaker 5:

I think. Black Ops is mainline, is it not? Ooh Ooh.

Speaker 1:

I am not an FPS guy, so I am out of this. I have no idea. This is going to be a total guess. We can hear you counting Luigi, All right.

Speaker 4:

Do it in your head, son. Do it in your head. Get your shoes and socks off, mate. The other ones are downstairs. He's counting, he's counting.

Speaker 5:

Do you know what? What could have gone wrong? Yes, he's foul-mouthed, yes, he's getting grumpy, but at least he's resourceful.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, he's thinking outside the box, so to speak. Yeah, exactly, I'm a complete novice at this. I've had just a pure guess.

Speaker 4:

I've not counted the PS2 one.

Speaker 1:

And I've probably said that on every question.

Speaker 2:

But yeah, pure guess.

Speaker 1:

Okay, what was that? Question 23, I think. Oh, lovely, just seven left. So, as the show is going quite quick, what we'll do at the end of the show, I'll go around, have a little chat with people. We'll have a bit of a chat about what you've been playing, what you're hoping to play, what's your favourite system. In a minute, we'll give you a little go and have a little bit of a chat as well, because, don't forget, this will be video as well as audio, so you'll be able to watch yourself on YouTube in a couple of weeks' time, so well as of recording this. So, yeah, that'll be good, anyway sorry, carry on.

Speaker 5:

How many do you think it is RGT?

Speaker 1:

Well, like I say, I have just guessed that I have put down 13.

Speaker 5:

There 13? There are people who've got closer to the answer than you have.

Speaker 7:

I thought so.

Speaker 1:

Up at 10 gazillion A little bit out. There will be at one point, I expect.

Speaker 5:

Which game is known for the phrase the cake is a lie, the cake is a lie. Cake is a lie, the cake is a lie, the cake is a lie.

Speaker 4:

Cake is a lie.

Speaker 1:

The cake is a lie.

Speaker 5:

My God, Radovince has grown a tail. I was going to say I wonder where that come from. He's really enjoying the quiz, yeah.

Speaker 1:

The cake is a lie.

Speaker 4:

I feel like I should know that oh.

Speaker 1:

The cake is a lie. I've heard it somewhere.

Speaker 3:

I just can't.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so have I. I can't think what game that was B on oh of course, I love your answer I don't know what the game is, but I don't think I haven't oh you've.

Speaker 5:

You've excelled yourself. For that answer are we.

Speaker 1:

Are we going to get a recap of these answers at the end? Um?

Speaker 5:

some of the wrong answers I've got so far are lying cake bastards marvelous, and um cooking mama I think I've thought too deep about this for the with what I've put.

Speaker 1:

But yeah, I think I've gone far too over.

Speaker 5:

Thought this just waiting for one more answer and then we'll hear what you think then. Rgtgt, yeah, it's good. Well, we all know it's going to be wrong, but Go on then. What is your wrong answer? I'll put heavy rain. Yeah, that is a wrong answer. Yeah, that is completely wrong, isn't it? Yeah, that is a very wrong answer.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, good, good, I'm keeping my form up.

Speaker 5:

I think cooking mama is closer than that, to be honest that's wow, that okay.

Speaker 1:

25, I believe.

Speaker 5:

I thought you said 25 last time. I think you've lost count as well, mate. I thought it's 24 last time did I say 25?

Speaker 1:

you said 25 I think this might be 25.

Speaker 5:

Oh, I'm sorry either way, it's a question.

Speaker 1:

Okay, let's go. We'll find out when the last one is.

Speaker 5:

What is the agent number of the lead character in Hitman?

Speaker 4:

What's the question?

Speaker 5:

What is the agent number of the lead character in Hitman?

Speaker 1:

Oof Shall. I tell you a really big surprise here. You've never played Hitman, no idea, I'm gonna be guessing I thought you were gonna say you're the side.

Speaker 5:

The numbers is the age that you are jeez, I went to a training work last year and there was a bald guy on it, really tall, thin, bald guy. And he came in on the second day in a black suit with a red tie no, and the guy leading the course just called him the answer oh, the whole way through the barcode on his head as well. No, he reckons he has done that for Fancy Dress before.

Speaker 1:

I'd have been thinking okay, which one of us is it?

Speaker 5:

You were right, Carlos. Unfortunately, you missed it with your first one. What was me nearly saying it? What gave it away?

Speaker 7:

No, I was just writing it down as you were about to say it. Yeah, I'm just starting to remember. This is a movie, isn't it? Yeah, a couple of it man RGT.

Speaker 1:

I'll put 4-3-1. Yeah, you're wrong.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, 4-3-1. Yeah, you're wrong. Yep, good, good. Okay. Now this is a question.

Speaker 1:

that is in just for RGT, because it's one of the true loves of his life. Oh, for God's sake, no.

Speaker 5:

What are you thinking it's going to be?

Speaker 1:

I don't want to think about any of it. To be honest, We've already had G1, jockey that's what I'm worried about. You think in a 30 question quiz I've come up with more than one G1 Jockey question no, I'm thinking you're probably going to say something I've forgot about, and then that's not going to be a realisation who voices Nathan Drake? Yay, yeah, that was a good one. Is Nathan Drake? Yay, yeah.

Speaker 3:

That was a good one.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 3:

I've seen his face, yeah, but I can't think of the name.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, what a legend.

Speaker 7:

Eh, what a legend Are they going to make any more Uncharted games, do you think?

Speaker 1:

They're supposed to be apparently. Yeah, I'm half hoping they don't. I think they've finished the story of Thief's End. I think they should leave it, but they should be doing another one, which I would imagine will. Well, I won't say what it'll be actually, in case people haven't played it, that would spoil the end of it, but I think the uh, yeah, the baton will be passed on. I think, yeah, yeah, um, yeah, I don't know whether they'll do it soon or not, so no, no, matt and blaster of three at the moment.

Speaker 5:

So I've got all the answers rgt. Sorry, so what is the answer here? It?

Speaker 1:

is the legend.

Speaker 5:

It is nolan north um just to answer a query from one of the questions as well RGT Is it the guy from Firefly? Was one of the answers.

Speaker 1:

That's Philon, isn't it? Yeah, that's what's his name.

Speaker 4:

Philon or Philon.

Speaker 1:

Nathan Fillion. Nathan Fillion yeah, they done a fan-made little movie. He starred as Nathan Drake in that, but no, he wasn't the voice of Nathan Drake.

Speaker 5:

Okay, I genuinely didn't know, so I thought you might know because you are obsessed with Nolan North. I certainly am. I've just given the answer away. Yeah, okay answer away. Yeah, okay, name either of the first two non-Nintendo characters to appear in the Super Smash Bros franchise, as announced in 2006. So, so, in 2006, they announced the first non-Nintendo characters were going to be in Super Smash Bros Name. Either of the first two. The first non-Nintendo characters were going to be in Super Smash Bros Name, either of the first two.

Speaker 1:

Right, non-nintendo, I've heard I think these are in the game, but whether they're correct or not, again true to form total guesses. That'd be even more embarrassing if they've actually never been in Smash Bros and I've just made this up, but I'm sure I've seen them. I'm sure I've seen them. The Nathan Drake yes, he was in that.

Speaker 3:

PlayStation one.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, ps Stars, they tried to do, didn't they, the rip-off of it.

Speaker 5:

So what two do you think it was in RGT? Two of them, yeah, two, you only it was in RGT Two of them. Yeah, two, you only had to name one of them. Oh, fair enough, there were two possible answers and you wanted one from you.

Speaker 1:

I put two down and I bet they're both wrong. But I put Cloud in Final Fantasy and I put down Solid Snake.

Speaker 5:

One of those is correct.

Speaker 1:

Ooh, I got something right, one out of 27. Get in Okay.

Speaker 5:

So three questions to go In the Last of Us. What is Joel's last name? I know this because I've just finished the series. He's so excited.

Speaker 2:

I ain't got it wrong. I've just finished the series and I don't know this.

Speaker 5:

His dad's got it on the little Come on, you're funny On the little lit switch badge.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, no one there. Policeman name.

Speaker 1:

Most embarrassingly, I have a display cabinet filled with last of his stuff and I can't remember.

Speaker 4:

The only reason I know is because of that that's.

Speaker 1:

Hmm, this is getting embarrassing. Yeah, that is a toughie. You've got to look close to know that one.

Speaker 4:

Pascal, pascal Technically. You dis-specify Okay.

Speaker 5:

What year is Red Dead Redemption 2 based in?

Speaker 1:

I'll give you a do DM. These are cracking questions. These are really good questions Because they're not only Thank you, not only are they tricky, they're ones I want to know the answers of. So if we ever do a game and quiz again and someone different does it and comes up with these questions, I go oh, I know that one. They're not proper factual ones.

Speaker 7:

Let's have a look. She's off to look at the game.

Speaker 5:

I can't believe it.

Speaker 4:

I swear. If it's wrong, I'm going to smash something up Again.

Speaker 1:

He's sitting in an encyclopedia library of just.

Speaker 5:

Right, so we've got one question left to go, and do you want to know what the scores are before we go to the last question? Oh yeah, oh, we've got one person on 13 points, one person on 12 points someone else on nine, someone on seven and someone on three so will we have a tiebreaker.

Speaker 5:

Could end up with a tiebreaker, and Could end up with a tiebreaker, and I looked up the tiebreaker yesterday and forgot to write it down, so I'll be doing some rapid Googling to get the answer again. Well, you could do that while. I'm padded, a particular set of answers comes up. Okay, so the Unofficial Controller podcast has five hosts, from oldest to youngest. Give me their names in age order hmm, fine from oldest to youngest.

Speaker 5:

You say oldest to youngest and, given that you told me more than half the ages the other day, rgt, if you don't get this right, there's something wrong with you.

Speaker 1:

Would you be surprised if I said I'm struggling?

Speaker 5:

This is current host then it doesn't include With the question on life in general.

Speaker 6:

It doesn't include past hosts.

Speaker 5:

No just five current hosts on current season's artwork.

Speaker 7:

Let's get rid of this then.

Speaker 1:

I don't know if I've got this right.

Speaker 4:

Five current hosts.

Speaker 5:

The five current hosts. Yeah, yeah, on the artwork of the season.

Speaker 1:

Yes, that's me. The one in the skirt, that's me Richie. Yeah, that's me.

Speaker 4:

Right. Look at their pictures. Right, who's the oldest who?

Speaker 7:

are you going?

Speaker 4:

That's what I'm looking at as well.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, look at that Bit of merch, bit of merch.

Speaker 4:

I reckon. I reckon he's younger actually.

Speaker 1:

I love your thinking out loud. We can just hear how it all works.

Speaker 4:

Maybe the trick is that they are all in age. Order Shall.

Speaker 1:

I let you into a secret, luigi. They're not. I wish they were. Are you got the answers in, just waiting for one more?

Speaker 5:

answer and it's just arrived. Nobody got that right, no way.

Speaker 7:

Oh I reckon you're the oldest in.

Speaker 5:

RGT. I should say the mistake most people made was saying that George is older than RGT. Sorry, George, sorry. Yes, everyone thought that.

Speaker 4:

I think, it must be the hairline, not everyone thought that Not everyone thought that.

Speaker 1:

Shall I give you my answer, then, if this is wrong, I'm quitting on air.

Speaker 5:

I was going to say, if you're wrong, then you've got information.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, so I've put obviously me, then George, then Bobby, then Scott, then Seb.

Speaker 5:

As I said, you gave me the information RGT. So Yep, what was that answer? What did you say? I'm the oldest Yep, Followed by George.

Speaker 4:

Oh OK, what was that? What did you say?

Speaker 1:

I'm the oldest, yeah. Followed by George, okay, followed by Bobby.

Speaker 5:

Followed by Scott. Sorry, one person did get it right, yeah.

Speaker 1:

And followed by the young stupid person. Guess we got it right. Superb. So are you going to have a little totter up? Do you need to have a bit of a totter up already, mate? If you?

Speaker 5:

want to. If you want to go off on a diversion for a little bit, yeah, I can do before. We will keep in suspense for a bit.

Speaker 1:

Keep me in suspense for a bit. Um, yeah, so if you're like on this show, everyone who's listening is the first time listening, um, make sure you uh download some shows, go over to spotify, go over to any podcast providers we're on pretty much all of them uh, youtube channel as well. If you've got any questions you'd like to ask us about the show, how do you become a subscriber? How do you join in? Go to questions at unofficialcontrollerpodcastcom, or you can dm us on instagram or twitter or anything. I'm rgt on air retro gamer thomas, you can message me. Or even if you follow any of the guys you're listening to on here, like Digital Monkery or anyone who's on like Banner Binkster, you can message them as well. They can send you to the right place.

Speaker 1:

Come on the Discord, come, say hi, come and join in and all the different bits and pieces. Yeah, and you can see. You can see how mad, having fun like this and questions that I get all completely wrong. Um, so, yeah, any, anyone wants to join in? Like I say, there's plenty of places. Contact us, come and send us an email, come and join in, but let's head over to find out who we've got. Are you gonna read them all at reverse order and then get to the top three?

Speaker 5:

I'll just do the top three, I think, yep, okay. So in third place with 10 points, we have Tingle Tuna. Ooh, well done. In second place with 12 points, we have Badabingster and his live research oh, and the winner is and the winner of the Cards Against UCP, with 13 points, is Carlos Yay, well done.

Speaker 1:

Carlos, well done, well played, that's amazing. Congratulations, mate.

Speaker 7:

Oh thanks, that's brilliant.

Speaker 1:

So, as you just heard, we have given away a Cards Against UCP, which you probably recognise as the popular game. Dm had a special one made for us which will be questions. It's got questions in it about the show, about the hosts, all a bit of fun really. Can you just run us through who it was again, dm, who made those?

Speaker 5:

MakeMyCardsart. That's it. Yeah, it's a really easy site to use. Um, you literally just make your own black cards and white cards and if you've got a few of you who want to make a deck together, you can share a link so you can do it all collaboratively. Yeah and um, yeah, it's done by a single bloke living in spain and, uh, he's really nice to talk to and really helpful with any issues you've got.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, definitely. Like I say definitely, go and check them out at make my cards dot art. Check out his site. Very easy, like dm said, very easy to use. Um great little present for someone. Or, if you want to all join in, do it together. Uh, very professionally printed. They look very good, um, and we're very happy with ours. Um, and that will be going to carlos and the winner. But thank you to everyone for joining in. Um, that was a good bit of fun.

Speaker 1:

Um, first time we've tried a quiz on the zoom meetup, but I think it's been quite successful. So we'll definitely try that again. But I think before we go we'll have we'll have a little chat with the guys who give you all your little bit of time in the limelight, have a bit of a chat about what you've been playing, what you hope to play, what systems you've been playing on. We'll go around there. So we'll start off with the first quiz winner, which is, as on the show, you'll hear him called the one-man George fan club. That is Carlos. What have you been playing lately, carlos, if? What have you been playing lately, carlos, if you've had time to play.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, I've been playing. Obviously, for your section on the Discord, I was playing a bit of Forza 2. Yes, I'd already got quite a way into it, like back in the day and sort of coming into it. Maybe if I'd come into it fresh I probably would have played a bit more, but I sort of fell off it really quickly yeah it's a bit grindy after a while, isn't it?

Speaker 1:

It can get a bit grindy.

Speaker 7:

Yeah, I found I was either driving around on my own or I was nowhere. That's what I was finding. And yeah, I thought, well, it's not exactly close racing that way, is it? So I sort of fell off that. But just in time for you to announce that the next game was going to be Dead Space.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 7:

So I took a trip down to CEX with £2 that I scavenged from down the sofa. The CEX was shut. They're relocating in my town, so I walked home with nothing and decided to get Game Pass instead for a month. I think it was £15. But actually there's quite a lot on that Game Pass. Now I haven't had it for a month. It's like, yep, it's 15 pounds, but actually there's quite a lot on that game pass. Now I haven't had it for a while, so there's a lot on there to play. So, um, but I've been getting into that dead space. Yeah, it's a really good game actually. Yeah, I've played a lot of games like that before and so, if you know the survival horror games, I've not really played them. So, yeah, it's a really good game actually.

Speaker 1:

Yeah it's quite unique as well being that sort of space setting rose. You tend to have your sort of zombies in your and your resident evils, but that is that bit different and, if anyone's listening, wondering what what this is, we do, we do we're sort of going through generation seven, really ps3, xbox 360, um, and we've had a list of games. We've done a show about it me and zangief off off our discord, um, and we started, from this month, putting the games out for a vote. Because there's so many want to play, we thought we'll put four at a time. Let let you lot in the discord decide. And this month came up with dev space. So the good thing is there's the remake of that.

Speaker 1:

So some people are playing that on xbox series x or ps5. Um, I'm playing it on ps3, the original, I mean. I know a couple people playing on the 360, so it's it's plenty of scope to play the game. But yeah, I've been playing a bit myself as well and it is spooky. But yeah, yeah, very, very good. Um, we should move on to next. We'll go on to badabink star. What have you been playing lately, my friend?

Speaker 4:

um same as um carlos. To be fair, I've, um, you know, dabbled in with ford, so I've got a bit bored of it. To be fair, I'm used to my Gran Turismo. I just couldn't continue. Got to unlock the car that we spoke about, the Clio. Then I kind of was like, oh, quite glad I moved on. That's the tough car, that Clio, and, yeah, dead Space. I went and got my PS3 copy.

Speaker 3:

There's no disc in there.

Speaker 4:

Oh no. So I've obviously put it in a PlayStation and maybe sold it on. So yeah, like Carlos said, it's on PS5. I think it was free a few months ago maybe. So I've downloaded that and started playing it on there. So I played that at the minute and I managed to get myself another PS3. So I've been going for some of the games and found one with something inside that I've never seen before and people were quite interested by it. I don't know what copy. It's got some sort of photos in it which mine didn't have.

Speaker 1:

Oh, no way, it must have been a day, one edition or something.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, it's got like the old.

Speaker 1:

Sort of negatives.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, oh, no way.

Speaker 1:

I've never seen that in cool. Oh yeah, that's awesome, oh, brilliant. Um, what about you, uh, tingletuna? What have you been playing lately? Or hoping to play soon?

Speaker 2:

well, um, following on from last month's challenge, accepted I'm. I'm now seven days clean from playing. I've finally been able to put that one down and put that to bed. Um, and I've been playing a bit of Dead Space on the PS5, enjoying that.

Speaker 2:

I'm not really very good with these survival horror kind of games as soon as I get a few scares I normally turn it off and that's the end of it. But I'm going to try and keep playing that one. So I've got through the first chapter. I'll see if I can find a bit of time to do some more tonight. One of the upsides of the challenge accepted was I didn't have time to play any Dragon Quest III on the Switch and just recently I think it was on Friday put out a patch for it, so it's upgraded for the Switch 2. Oh, fantastic, 60 frames, a second and up-res. So I can start working through that this month. And I've also a bit of a stingrays boot had, uh vacaroo on the switch today, which is a. It's a bit of a 3d adventure game. It's made by some of the game, uh, some of the developers that did adventures of gomon on um on the64, if you ever played that, oh right okay.

Speaker 2:

It's a good feel. I think it's a studio that do a lot of work with Nintendo. That's really good. I've played about an hour of that today and really enjoyed that, so hoping to play some more of that this month.

Speaker 1:

Oh fantastic. Oh, some good games there you've been playing. Then Move on to Firm Returns. What have you been playing? Then Move on to Firm.

Speaker 6:

Returns. What have you been playing lately? Well, I was visiting a friend last weekend and every time I see him I normally take the Switch down and we try and do a bit of a couch co-op. So we've been working our way through Huntdown. I don't know whether you guys have encountered that Run and Gun.

Speaker 2:

Oh, yes, yeah, terrific, brilliant working our way through hunt down.

Speaker 6:

I don't know whether you guys encounter that run and gun. Oh, yes, yeah, yeah, terrific, brilliant. Yeah, we, it's quite a hard one, but we've been sort of cracking about one major sort of level and um, and all the sort of I think there's four or five bosses per one. We've sort of been cracking that one of those, um, every time we do it and slowly working our way through over a few trips, um, so that's been good. I've also been playing solo, uh, the messenger, which I think I've mentioned a few times on the discord. Um, yeah, I think I'm about 25 hours in now. Is it's a game that it's a starts off as like a kind of a ninja gaiden type platformer. You go through fairly linearly, go through a set of platform and defeat a boss and so on, and then it kind of opens up into a bit of a Metroidvania you have to backtrack a lot and try and collect things and so on and then defeat a few more bosses and stuff.

Speaker 6:

I think I'm on the final level of that now. I just had a platforming sequence where I was being chased by this monster from the abyss and I think it took me over 100 deaths and about three hours of attempts to do it. Because it's one of these ones where, um, I imagine it's a bit similar to like metroid dread or something where you've been chased, but it's like a sequence of um, you're doing this platform and if you make any slip up at all and it's probably about two or three minutes of continuous platforming if you make any slip at all, it catches you, so there's absolutely zero room for error it reminds me of um, reminds me of one of the battle toads games where you're on the bikes and you have to jump over the route, all perfectly timed, and if you get that wrong, that's it.

Speaker 1:

And that is tough, tough. That battle total. It reminds me of that.

Speaker 6:

But 100 attempts, wow, I'll give you dedication, that's I've thrown down the gauntlet for ginge on this one as well. See if they can tackle this as a future platinum, because I was looking at the list of platinums for it and one of them was to do. There's a a level where you have to get a light source because you're going into a dark cave and you can still access the cave even without the light source, and so one of the trophies is to do an entire level of platforming without being able to see.

Speaker 3:

So you'd have to actually memorize.

Speaker 6:

You'd have to do it first with a light source and then memorize it and try and do it without. So I have no idea how he's going to do that, but we'll have to see.

Speaker 1:

It'd be interesting to see the percentage of people that's got the trophy for that. I bet the platinum is quite low. I'd have thought.

Speaker 6:

I think so yeah.

Speaker 1:

It's like 0.09% or something ridiculous, I reckon. But yeah, have you been playing anything else, or is that all?

Speaker 6:

and ridiculous, I reckon. But yeah, have you been playing anything else or is that all? Uh, that's mostly I was also. I've been playing um a bit online with a friend. Uh, gotham knights picked that one up. It was the one. They did the sort of multiplayer more arcadey one they did after arkham knight.

Speaker 6:

I don't think it would be a great game if you're playing on your own, but playing it with somebody else and going out and just going around Gotham and you know, each night going and doing all the different objectives and things, beating them up enemies and things, and then having all these different kind of like side quests and then a main storyline with a court of owls and stuff. It's been great fun. Yeah, it's been. If you have got any kind of game with friends and stuff, it works seamlessly. It's very. Could you just drop into their their session and stuff?

Speaker 1:

and, yeah, that's all their progress and things. It's great, yeah, brilliant. Um, we'll move on to emma. What have you been playing lately? I would imagine maybe an assassin's creed in there somewhere a while ago I did um shadows.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, I haven't played it recently, but I've really been enjoying that so far. That's really quite good. Um, that's quite more in. I find in the gameplay they've gone backwards in that to how some of the original assassins were because I found, although the hello was okay, it was too way too big. I just found it was too monotonous to fetch and carry. It wasn't big, I just found it was too monotonous too fetch and carry it wasn't uh what I would say, was an assassin's game.

Speaker 1:

It just got a bit. Yeah, too long yeah, definitely gone more down that sort of stealthy route. Now aren't they back to?

Speaker 3:

the stealth lot although they've got a bit of both in you've got a bit of brute force and you've got a bit of stealth it's quite fun. So you can pick and choose. You're not stuck to stuck to the one.

Speaker 1:

On that one but I'm not like. That was a very long game, or no, it's not.

Speaker 3:

Um.

Speaker 1:

I can't remember how many hours I put into it now um well, no, they had sort of yeah, I think it is something they had sort of shrunk a lot of the later ones down and they took about 20 odd hours, which is uh, yeah, I think sometimes people haven't always got 100 plus hours to put into games.

Speaker 3:

Nowadays they're saying at the time I mean I'm sure you could put 100 plus hours in, but it'd be, what would you do? It's like mirage. It's not very big, I think, 30 hours max and you could do everything in it yeah, yeah they haven't put many updates or dlcs on that one, the only one they did was 40 thieves yeah, that's true, and then I said to you the other day I was starting to play black ops 6 oh, yes, yes, yeah remember I said to you but I I found that very odd.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, does anybody else find it? I just felt they were. I don't know, it might be just my personal thing that they were coming off of. It just felt weird they've gone into, like as I was saying, it was like the zombies and the the jumpiness of it. I didn't enjoy that side of thing because I, like you, I don't play a lot of that kind of game I don't like that kind of game, so I'm not sure on that one.

Speaker 1:

I'm still deciding yeah, I think, like we were talking about, I think they're obviously trying different routes and different stories and bits and pieces, you know as this you know there's been a lot of games in the series, so they're obviously trying to go down a different route. But whether that works or not will be uh well, we'll see, I suppose. But not going to be for everyone, I don't think. But is there anything?

Speaker 3:

else you've been playing emma or I've been having to go to tomb raiders, some old classics. I'm going to go at those that.

Speaker 1:

I've been quite enjoying as well.

Speaker 3:

I'm going to go at the definitive edition, which I've quite enjoyed.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, good idea, it's good. Getting back to the old Tomb Raiders, them games don't really seem to age for me. I think they're brilliant games.

Speaker 3:

I've want to go through and I don't think I'll platinum it, but I'm certainly going through, doing all me what I can brilliant, yeah, absolutely superb.

Speaker 1:

I suppose we better head over to our hostess with the mostest old dm. What you've been playing lately, my friend um, just like tingle tuna.

Speaker 5:

I am currently in belatro rehab this is like the confession space for ex belatro junkies but um, with the kids being off, I've mainly been playing things like Shredder Revenge and Rita's Rewind with them, and they really enjoy playing the Jackbox Party Pack games as well.

Speaker 4:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 5:

We've been doing a lot of stuff like that, but in terms of games I've been playing just for me, the only one I've played recently is Three or four years ago I had a real binge on Kickstarter for point-and-click games that were in development, yeah, and the most recent one I got is called Near Mage and it's beautifully animated. I'm still very early in it. It's very much holding my hand, but it's got very good positive signs for me so far.

Speaker 1:

Oh good, yeah, I mean I know Kickstarter can be hit and miss, but it's it's got very good positive signs for me so far. Oh good, yeah, you can't. I mean, I know kickstarter can be hit and miss, but sometimes you can find some absolute brilliant games on there where people are so creative and just need that money just to get the game out yeah, um, because I I backed um.

Speaker 5:

What was it called? It's got a titan similar to stranger things. It's based in the 80s. I don't remember what it's called at all um, um, wait a second.

Speaker 1:

I do know what you mean um you know exactly what you came on one about. Yes, I do know uh I've got.

Speaker 5:

I've sought another youtube channel through that as well, and there's a couple of others. I think I'm waiting for something about ooze. I've completely forgot the names of games that I've been buying, probably while again when you're asking what I'm, what I've been playing, but, um, now, near mage is quite fun so far. Oh, brilliant, unusual findings, that's the one, yeah, yeah that's the one yep.

Speaker 1:

I did see it represented on a lot of kickstarter game channel sort of thing they were talking about.

Speaker 5:

That um anything else you've been playing. No, that's it me that's it for me.

Speaker 1:

Um, me, I've still been into well firm return suggestion, which I've been playing on the switch, which is cattle country. Uh, still really enjoying that. Um, that's pretty much a endless game for me. There's plenty to do in that. If you haven't heard the show before, don't know what Cattle Country is. It's basically think of Stardew Valley, very, very similar to Stardew Valley, but with that Western theme. Some people say it's a cross between Red Dead Redemption and Stardew Valley. So not only do you farm and do your bits and pieces, you have weapons as well so you can hunt and shoot deers and occasionally you'll have a couple of bandits jump out at you, try and rob you and you have to take them out in a gunfight. And so, yeah, all really interesting, all really good.

Speaker 1:

Big plan that, um, I've been playing, uh, murder on your express on the switch 2, but it is the switch version. But, um, running on the switch 2, it looks gorgeous, it's smooth as silk, uh, 60 fps. Uh, the train, and that when you're inside, uh, you want to express the reflections. Everything looks stunning on the switch to. And, great guy, I love all those sort of murder, mystery, puzzle games. Really, really good. It's not a third person, sort of over the shoulder style, and you have to remember when you're having conversations. You have to remember, because the game will then come straight back and say, right, what age is that person, what you know, what will they wear and where do they work for, what's their nationality, and you have to try, and you know, be focused and remember everything for when you get questioned later on and that will help you further down. Really, really good. Um.

Speaker 1:

I've also, um been playing the demo of the. I think it's the Adventures of Elliot, the Millennium Tale or something I think it's called Square Enix's new action RPG, sort of HD 2.5 sort of graphics, very similar to the graphics on, you know, octopath, Traveler or Triangle Strategy, but this is an action rather than turn-based. Very similar to a Zelda. You've got shrines to find and bits and pieces. Quite a lengthy demo. Definitely recommend it. If you're going the e-shop, download it, switch to game. Very, very good so far. Highly recommend. I don't think it's out till 2026, but I definitely will be pre-ordering that. Um, I'm trying to think if there's anything else I've been playing. I think that is pretty much it. I believe um, yeah, I think it is. Um.

Speaker 1:

I know it was rubbish but that was really good. Like I say, with that bit of a mixture of questions about us, questions about the show, plus some good good factual gaming history questions there. Really really good congratulations to the top three there, well done. But, like I say, congratulations to everyone for joining in. That was brilliant. I'm sure this is something, um, we'll be doing again. Um, and it also leaves me just to say there's nothing wrong with being given the unofficial controller. That's what you do if it counts.
