Why GTA Clones Still Matter Even When They Don’t Win
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
What if the games we finish fastest tell us the most about what we love? That question runs through this week’s ride as we finish Sleeping Dogs, return to Infamous on PS3, and unearth a shockingly good £2 ARPG on PSP. We dig into why “GTA clones” can still hit hard—when combat feels right, pacing stays lean, and the city serves the story instead of stealing the spotlight. Sleeping Dogs’ Arkham‑style counters, rain‑slick neon, and compact side content become a masterclass in approachable design, while DLC hints at the longer, better version that almost was.
Then we jump to Infamous and the magic of a first entry. It’s smaller and a bit “toy‑town,” but that’s the point: traversal clicks, morality choices land fast, and every rooftop feels like a move you’re meant to chain. We talk series DNA—from early parkour and power ramps to how sequels polish away the edges some of us actually crave. On handheld, we split time between Cast and Chill’s soothing idle‑meets‑strategy loop and Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony on PSP, an isometric ARPG that proves short sessions can still deliver satisfying builds, readable loot, and bite‑sized maps worth clearing.
News-wise, we cover Xbox’s reported controller refresh with Wi‑Fi for lower cloud latency and what that means for feel, haptics, and play-anywhere ambitions. We also break down Switch 2’s Bethesda wave—Oblivion Remastered, Fallout 4, and Skyrim Anniversary—why “code in a box” frustrates collectors, and why an Indiana Jones game card matters for physical fans. And yes, the headline you didn’t see coming: Dovetail Games (Train Sim World) is crafting a full Thomas and Friends adventure with a faithful Sodor, simplified controls for kids, and realistic options for sim diehards. Unexpected? Absolutely. But authenticity plus warmth is a formula we’ll always root for.
Stick around for our new weekly release cadence, community playthrough invites, and what we’re playing next. If you care about tight mechanics, clean pacing, and games that respect your time—whether that’s a slick brawler, a scrappy handheld ARPG, or a thoughtful controller redesign—you’ll feel right at home. If you enjoyed this, follow, share with a friend, and drop a review to help more curious gamers find us. What “underdog” game would you put back in the spotlight?

Cold Open, Banter, And Setup
SPEAKER_08Hello and welcome to the Unofficial Controller Podcast, your weekly gaming podcast, episode number 304 with me, George, and this week joined by well, look at him, it's RGT. He's pro gamer to my, as you can see, pro gainer. I don't mean muscular. I'm talking uh adipose baby. RGT, how's it going you, Hulk of Burning Muscle?
SPEAKER_01I don't know if I'd class myself as a Hulk of burning muscle, but um, I'm very well, thank you. How are you?
SPEAKER_08I think you look like a fine honed piece of Wayguo beef. I don't think you probably keep yourself in a too dissimilar process to a Wayguo cow. Music playing background, nice, you know. Very true. Um nice selection of chow put down in front of you. And a trough. I was gonna say it and then I didn't want to, and then go there for all in, go in.
SPEAKER_01We're all in.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. So rolling around in your own mess a little bit, you know. I won't go that far, but oh, so now I've gone too far. Hey, if you tuned in, uh we're now a video show, apparently. Welcome. Uh so we better get you let you know straight away that this is a video game podcast. As you can see, we are pro gamers. RGT sat there in his Pew's bedroom, and I'm sat amongst some uh record paraphernalia. You shake your head, RGT. You can't hide because you're on camera, friend.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we we need to get something sorted about this backdrop. I have moved rooms, hence it's a little echoey, but uh we'll be sorting that for next week. Don't panic. Don't panic, but yeah.
SPEAKER_08You're not gonna repaint, are you?
SPEAKER_01We'll see. We'll see.
SPEAKER_08Well, that was the that was the four grand can of special Gwyneth Paltrow paint that was the same colour as in a as uh in a labia.
SPEAKER_01That was, yeah. I've also got the candles as well. Just form bonds, yeah.
SPEAKER_09When the paint fell, smell fades, just like that wick baby.
Show Format, Video Shift, And Housekeeping
SPEAKER_08Certainly. Um I think we have probably done enough of the preamble, and one would argue not even gamer related. So I swing to you in your finely attuned stars team attire and ask you because I've kind of forgot how the show goes, if I'm honest. I thought I was on flashback for two seconds. Bit of a fever dream. Very yeah.
SPEAKER_01Because I'm sitting in a completely different room at the moment for getting a little bit of a little bit of a little silver hook electrical contact cleaner RGT, yeah.
SPEAKER_08500 millilitre can. Um, what have you been playing?
SPEAKER_01Not a lot, but a little. Um I have finished this week, which I didn't think I would. I finished Sleeping Dogs, our generation seven playthrough game.
SPEAKER_09Oh, have you?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I have, yeah. I I was really struggling. We were playing up to mission 20 about a week ago, and I was I'd got to like 15 and just way behind with all what we've got going on behind the scenes, and work was really busy, and everyone had got to 20, and then people had said, Oh, can I don't wait for me, just go on, get to the end. People had got to 30, and then I had a night off the other night, and um I thought, do you know what? I'm gonna pull the pants down of sleeping dogs and give it a damn good thrashing. Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_09How did that feel?
SPEAKER_01Absolutely wonderful. Oh good. I got myself a couple of little brew dogs, got the uh Oh, you went there, got the retrofit is defender and thought, right, here we go, on a US launch. Oh, I went there. Two o'clock in the morning I finished and I had two missions left. Get in. I then spent my day off waiting for a washing machine and building the kitchen cabinet, absolutely knackered. But and then last night I finished the last two missions. So overall, um for a PS3 game, very good. Um a few people I think in the group who are playing it, prefer it to GTA 4. I wouldn't say that. I wouldn't say it's a GTA 4. I wouldn't say it's better than GTA 4, but what I will say it's surprisingly Square Enix as well, which that always amazes me every time I see that. And why did we never get another one? You know, because I've done a really good job with this. That open world crime, you know.
SPEAKER_08I guess it it was there's a certain game that absolutely owns that space, and it doesn't matter if you're a sleeping dogs, a true crime, or watch dogs, or whatever, you're just never gonna be anything more than a good for a GTA clone. So as shameful as it is that we don't maybe see those games as much as we used to. Everyone was trying to have a crack. I think most people have kind of they've given up, really, haven't they? Yeah, let's face it.
SPEAKER_01That's a very good point.
SPEAKER_08And the sleeping dogs to GTA 4 comparison, pure sort of raw gameplay, straight into the story. So what I've noticed from my kind of halfway, I'm halfway through, I think I've done like 15 missions or whatnot. You told me off, and I carried on playing and haven't got back to it. But I know it's there's a lot less friction, there's a lot less kind of activity on the roads and bits and bobs in sleeping dogs. So the transition through the city feels a little bit easier, a little bit smoother. I think the the the dime the driving dynamics of GTA 4, as much as I love them, they were maligned at the time, per se, and maybe not everyone's cup of tea now. So sleeping dogs is a little bit more available, it's a little bit more easier to have a go with, but I didn't see anywhere near the same level of detail within the city as much as I loved it and thought graphical detail looked good, or lots of details, but in terms of like the NPCs, it's not close.
SPEAKER_01No, I think also when you once you finish the game, once you get all the parts together and you think, you know, if you're mainline at 15-20 hours, um few side missions, a few collectibles, not not massive amounts, but quite a few. Yeah, it's almost like Square Enix were testing the water. This was like a little test game. Uh you know, it wasn't a full in 100-hour open world, you know, it was more, let's just see what's going on.
SPEAKER_08It might more be from how this product came about as well. You know, I tripped on the Discord, don't forget this is true crime three basically. And I think they kind of inherited a sandwich box of parts that were then sort of hastily assembled into its final concoction. So maybe there was more to add. I through and and this is classic me, through my enjoyment of it, I did actually then go onto the PS3 store and download the DLC. I Googled, you know, what bits add-on story. There's a Bruce Lee Island fight one. So to those who've probably got the game of the year version or something, they maybe have maybe had this already.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but they don't have any old um definitive one, I would imagine, didn't they?
SPEAKER_08Maybe on the PS4 one, yeah. Most likely that's probably got that in your right. And I went and got extra content. And you know, maybe if that was the original vision, because we know what DLC's like from back in the day, don't we? Maybe if that was the original vision, that might might have added another 10-15 hours, maybe to be generous.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, very true.
SPEAKER_08And then, you know, you're knocking on the door of something like, I suppose, and that would give you there was a I think there was like a haunted sort of Halloween one that I didn't didn't find particularly interesting to me, so I didn't get that one. Um, but I think there was some like free to anyone who enjoyed the um police sort of swap missions, and I think there was some drug bust missions or something like that within the game. Um there's a whole couple of packs that adds on the whole sort of randomly generated version of that that so you can almost continually play the police element of it. Add infinitum, maybe. I don't know. I need to look into it, but it's interesting. So, and if that's in the as you call it, the definitive edition, that would also be probably worth a buy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, definitely. But I mean, a lot of plus points of the game, really enjoyed it. Um, if you're seeing a game to the end, you're obviously enjoying it unless you're just glutting for punishment. Um, so it was it was very good. Uh, things are um people were talking about the graphics, how good they looked. I know a few of the guys are playing them on Steam Decks and bits and pieces.
SPEAKER_08Um I saw some shots in the yeah, looked really good on the Discord, yeah.
SPEAKER_01But even on my base PS3 super slim, looked really good. Um I thought the draw distance was superb, one of the best games. I've seen the sort of draw distance, that was really good in the city, and then also I thought it looked best when it was raining at night and you had the neons, reflections, and bits looked really good for PS3. Um that's his sweet spot. Yeah, combat. I really enjoyed that sort of Batman Arkham sort of you know, triangle block to carry on the fights. Once you get to them last couple of levels, you know nearly mastered it.
What We’ve Been Playing Kickoff
SPEAKER_08Um, I will say I didn't realise how kind of sloppy you could be on the buttons as well. I was kind of like trying to be precise, but even if you're halfway through a combo and someone's at you, you can green and it just flows, very impressive.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um I almost think it's probably a bit too easy at times um because you got down to the final two missions, and although they were quite long, they were a bit of a breeze to get through. The the gun ones you had to figure out sometimes because your ammo was a bit short, but the actual ther last few fights didn't really have a problem with them at all. Because once you got that rhythm in of of the block, and you don't really seem to have a problem.
SPEAKER_08Um, but say it saying that there were times where I kind of maybe relaxed a bit and then it it pulled my pants down and starting okay. So I have to do you have to really be in the zone when you're playing it, which is which is good for the experience.
SPEAKER_01But I think you know, if you've got a Pierce 3 and you never played this, for you know, I think CX lists at a£3.50.
SPEAKER_08That's unbelievable.
SPEAKER_01I mean, that's a lot of game. I I think it's a bit more for the definitive edition, obviously, is about£18, I think.
SPEAKER_08Yeah,£15 feels like a gut punch for that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's around about that. But I mean£3.50 for a Pierce 3 game that good. I mean, Fat Zan Geef suggested this in our lists for the vote. Um, and as of recording today, uh Captain Scarlet come on and said, Oh, thanks, Metro Game and Thomas God. I never have played this if hadn't it been part of this, blah blah blah. And I was like, don't credit me. I said uh Fat Zan Geef picked this one, so you know, uh I can't take all the credit for that. Bless him. So um brilliant game, um, great fun, not too long, good graphics, combat's really good. Quite a it's it's an old cliche story, isn't it? You know, man, man comes from the you know, the the rough side of the city, he goes away, becomes a cop, comes back, goes undercover, you know, it's that sort of thing.
SPEAKER_08But no, I do it well. I actually checked because I thought, hang on a minute, is this this guy from True Crime Streets of LA? Is this are they actually but it's not, it's totally different bloke, so apologies.
SPEAKER_01I thought that would have been a nice callback, but but yeah, um yeah, just a really good solid game, you know, for the money. I really enjoyed it. Um, like I say, I know you are very right in what you say with that genre. If you're not a GTA, you're a clone. Do you want to be seen as a clone? No, so you don't make it.
Sleeping Dogs Deep Dive And Verdict
SPEAKER_08So it would have been nice for a second one, but you don't I I think to be fair as well, it seems to hold off um like buyers as well. It makes them nervous about committing. It's like, oh, it's a GTA clone, no, no, no, is it not? And people are very loyal to that brand as well, so it's a shame that that maybe didn't get picked up as much. Uh, and it you know, it made that transition from PS3 to PS4 and 360 and Xbox One or whatever it was, and yeah, it kind of deserved it. It does look better in that definitive edition, to be fair. It does look better.
SPEAKER_01Um, yeah, yeah, and I expect the frame rate's a bit more solid than that, and bits and pieces. I mean, things in the game I found like driving the cars was very sort of arcadey, um, you know, not quite there, but for some people they that's why I feel that lends to its more general appeal as a game, exactly, yeah, or user-friendly for sure. Exactly, yeah, definitely. Um, but yeah, like I say, definitely recommend it. Anyone out there who haven't played it, give it a go, give it, you know, give it a shot. And also, like I said, this was our generation seven playthrough, which on our Discord we've got RGT Back to the Past. If you want to join in, jump in the Discord, jump on. And uh, once we're just waiting for a few more people to finish, Sleeping Dogs, Monster Stun, we'll chuck four more games on Have a Vote, and then we all play that together. So, yeah, join in, it's great fun.
SPEAKER_08Thank you, Fatzang.
SPEAKER_01Yes, great choice, absolutely banging choice. Um, and the only other game I've been playing, which I started after completing this uh this week, is Infamous on the PS3. The first one. First one, yeah. Um, I remember dabbling with it back in the day, and I thought I'd played quite a bit of it, but I don't I didn't remember it. So whether I just played it and wasn't really concentrating on what I don't know. But um started that um enjoying the game, it feels very early PS3, although I don't think it is. I mean the menus are now of very, very basic menus. Um but that doesn't reflect on the game. Um, I think the controls are pretty good. I like the story. There's not too much faffing, you know. There was at that time you're straight into the game, off the admissions. Um, it reminds me for some reason of the way he runs and the way the the people are in the city. It reminds me of the PS2 game by I think it was Rockstar, which was state of emergency, where you're running around, there's people going everywhere. It really reminded me a bit of that. I know it's a different game.
SPEAKER_08This when you were talking about it there, I mean, I've I like Infamous One and Two. I think they're absolutely belting games. I actually think they're better than the game that comes after them, to be fair. Although that is, you know, a technical masterpiece, even to this day. You play it now, and that looks great. But Infamous One and Infamous Two hold a special place in my heart. Infamous one. Thing is, and this is where I was going originally, it feels like a toy town. It doesn't have that realism feel, the way the pavements hit the side of the building, it feels like a toy town that you're playing in. And and that's cool because you're just there to have fun. It's yeah, it's like crackdown on the 360, it's uh a runaround and have a laugh with your special powers kind of game. I love it, mate. The story's great, I think the acting in it's good. Um, I think it's stepped up for two, but I think one on its own is actually the true masterpiece.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, um, like I say, apart from the menus almost feel test and dev menus when you bring them up, they're very base menus, but that doesn't take away from the actual game itself. I think it's easy to play, it's easy to learn. Um there's a story there that is given to you, but you ain't got two hard cutscenes. I think it's a great little game, and you can almost see that DNA on, although it's a different was it Sumo Digital done this, I believe. Uh is this the they went on to do Dost of Shima and that, didn't they? Is it then?
SPEAKER_08Is this the Sly Raccoon Boys?
SPEAKER_01Yes, it is, yes, yes, it is. Um, so you can almost feel that DNA of games that were coming later on and next gen and that of that action, you know, heroes. I know they didn't do it, but what obviously spawned into different games like your Spider-Man's and Batman's, the way you run around the city, the way you climb and bits and pieces. This is sort of an early version of those sorts of things.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, when I played it, I felt definite influences or maybe influence, but you know, these things happen in a circular way. But Assassin's Creed for the climbability, it had that feature.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so true. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_08Um, I think I felt, you know, it it was attempting lots of different things. It you know, it was incorporating like a fable morality system, which was interesting as well.
SPEAKER_01Which, you know, yeah, that's what I was thinking of Fable when they first introduced me to the good and evil morality system.
SPEAKER_08So and then that kind of hover of skate ability, you know, it's it's got like the Tony Hawks vibe to it, really. You can link up the combos if you really want to, and you grind across buildings. It's it's interesting, it's got that kind of feeling of um there was a game like this, wasn't there? Was it on Xbox?
SPEAKER_01Uh what um Insomniac's first one, that Sunshine Sunset Overdrive. Sunset Overdrive, that's it.
SPEAKER_08Yes, yeah, that gave me these vibes. Obviously, it kind of went further down the sort of traversal route than this, but yeah, it's fun. They're little side missions that you stumble across. One does feel a little bit more hobbyist in its assembly as a game, I have to admit, and and two's got that kind of polish, but to me, it loses just I always like first games in series. Is I don't necessarily I know a sequel always improves upon everything, but it never sometimes quite improves upon what I want. And I I listened to the show this week that you boys did with Seb, and he's like And you can listen to this now, Seb. He give it all the stick about, oh, have you heard all the crow about George was saying about fable and this, that, and the other. Like, yeah, I get it, I see it all, I understand what you're saying, but it it's down to my particular taste of whether it activates for me, whether it's my fable or not my fable.
SPEAKER_01And I think a lot of that comes from you know how you felt when you played that first game, you knew what that first game done, and that's what they need to regenerate. It's not so much the graphics or the music or who's in it, it's whether they replicate what they were able to produce for you in that first title.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and a lot of a lot of sequels recently have fallen a bit short of maybe you know what I found good about the first part, and a lot of that, you know, maybe is the isolation or what I don't know, and then the second one, it's like uh it's good, there's no doubt about it, it's great.
SPEAKER_01It's not what I yeah, George personally wanted, and it's also hard because if it's a new IP and that's the first time you've played that game, it'll give you a certain feeling. Now, you're not gonna get that with the second game, so it needs to be pretty special to give you a feature, so it's quite hard to replicate that. It is. Um, but yeah, it'll be uh so far, like I say, I think I think it's a I think it's a good game, it's easy to pick up and play. Um, I don't think there's so far any problems. I mean, it's got that sort of brown resistant sort of style to the graphics, but you did in them days on the PS3, it weren't until later where they were getting more colourful. Um, but it plays well, it's quite a good story, it's almost got a bit of a tongue-in-cheek sort of side to it.
SPEAKER_08Um ain't no doubt about it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but yeah, very good. I mean, it's it's straight to the point, right? You've got to get out of the city, go over there, climb the bridge. You can work out easy what you gotta do, fight if your enemies get over, next mission. Um, yeah, good fun. I'm looking forward to playing.
SPEAKER_08How far into it are you? Because it's not too long, actually.
SPEAKER_01Uh no, I think it's only I think time to beat's at about 12 hours, I think, something like that. Yeah, neither of mine. I've done all that first part. Then you have to go underneath the bridge to get across to the other part of the city, and I've done a couple of missions over there. Um, so not too, probably an hour and a half in, I would imagine, something like that. Two hours. So um, but yeah, very good. I'm just trying to keep it.
SPEAKER_08Didn't I call you Zeke a few episodes ago?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Zeke.
SPEAKER_08Um, but I panic pay attention to him and pay attention to the story because like it gets a little bit crazy.
SPEAKER_01I can imagine that it feels like that sort of game. Um uh what was the sound can't remember now? Oh, yes, when I first started playing it, I was thinking started like the first 15 minutes, suddenly thought, oh no, this isn't on the Gen 7 list, is it? I don't even jump in the gun if it goes. No, it wasn't it wasn't on there, thank God.
SPEAKER_08So it seems to just go under the radar every single time, and it is great.
SPEAKER_01Well, the thing that amazed me is everyone knows Infamous. Infamous was, you know, for me, I always think of Infamous, yeah, PS3 game, big PS3 game, Infamous 2 as well, and then they done Second Sun on the PS4 when that first came out. I always think of Infamous, but whenever you see games to play on a PS3 or top 10 PS3 games or you know hidden gems and that never seems to come up on any lists. That's really strange. I don't and I find it quite unusual, really, but you probably know more, you've played them all. But um yeah, it seems an unusual one.
SPEAKER_08I mean, yeah, I've played in finish one and two, two most recently, and I keep having a go at the one on PS4. As beautiful as it is, as fun as it is to play, I don't know. I just never felt the grind to you know push it over the limit. But hey, it is what it is.
SPEAKER_01Um anything else you've been uh tickling the old ivories of? No, I wanted to get on to um what was it called on Evercade, Full Void? Is it full void? I wanted to get onto that this week, but I haven't been able to get on it, so I'll try this week and um yeah, looking forward to playing that. So um Oh, and other than that, I've just been playing playing a bit more my hidden gem for this week, so.
SPEAKER_08Oh, okay. Well, we'll get to that before we get to the news.
SPEAKER_01So Oh yeah, I've got to ask, can I? What have you been playing, George?
SPEAKER_08Oh, you don't have to, I was gonna do it myself. I've that used to having to uh be second fiddle on here. Uh let's cut to the chase of it. I haven't actually been that active on the games, I don't think. Um I've been away, so took the Switch 2 with me, and uh forgot my headphones for the first part, so I I hate gaming without headphones if you're on the on the handheld, because I don't feel like I can fully commit to the game and it's just blaring out the speakers. It's not the same. I didn't I thought oh, I won't take the dock, I'll just travel light. What an absolute idiot. Uh so okay. So I dedicated uh to cast and chill, uh, which I did actually uh slip onto the idol mode while I watched a bit of TV, I kept my eye on it, watched it.
SPEAKER_01I wondered if temptation would be a bit too much for little Georgie Boy and his fishing adventures.
SPEAKER_08Give me a moment, this uh, to alleviate your fears. Uh so I'd amassed, I've been doing well playing it and you know, sticking to it, and I'd unlock the top two levels of uh lures and I'd um maxed out the uh one of the first two rods, and I think so. I've been working, don't get me wrong, on Cast and Chill since it came out, and I'd got the boat hold, you know, the fish hold up to the max, which helps, and I don't think you can do much else with the wood, the leaky wooden boat. And and I had about 302 coins, you know, in the in the bank. So I went ashore and I spoke to Matey Boy. Uh yeah, I've put a lot of money in that tip joff since those first two unlocks RGT, and I've seen absolutely nothing since. So I don't know whether it's uh a value or a unlocks at a certain point.
SPEAKER_01I noticed a bit of that, you're thinking, come on, son, you get a few quid.
SPEAKER_08Like I was cutting them in. I was like, this is gonna be desperate now.
SPEAKER_01I wondered if he only done it if you unlocked like one of the special ones on the side and then tip, and then he'll show you places on that.
SPEAKER_08Starting to think that might be the case. Um although did he Yeah, on this on the last night that I was playing it, I think I maybe got the other side of one of the one of the ponds. I got an unlock on the other side, so maybe yeah, I'll I'll double check on that and come back to you because I'll get the I'll double check the name as well. Um I'll confirm it next week. Note to self-remember to look on that game and then broadcast this on there. Um but then obviously I stuck it in the idle mode, and there was something quite nice about just having it as like a screensaver. Obviously, in handheld mode, I had to keep touching the screen to wake it up, you know, because otherwise it was like just go in your just go in your settings.
SPEAKER_01I I like touching it, so you know. Yeah, I know I'm talking about your switch. Um if you go and turn it on.
SPEAKER_08I don't like touching that, yeah. I know, but then I have to remember to go in and turn it off.
SPEAKER_01But I think that's still doesn't it still carry on when the screen's on black?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, but then after a little while I think it locks the switch.
SPEAKER_01Okay, fair enough. Yeah, I knew it had a certain amount of time when because I think mine had done it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, you can kind of hear it through the console speaker. Little boat, little just the little birds and bits and bobs, but the screen's black, but then after a while it locks it to when you go to open it again, instead of it being the game, you have to go and tap tap tap three times or whatever it is. So and then he just sort of burnt some coin for me, and I managed to sort of put that together with the money that I had to get the speed, the first speed boat. I don't know if you've already got that yet or not.
SPEAKER_01I think I got up to the one afterwards with a little bit of the cab on, I think. Oh, really? Yeah, that's a bit of that that thing shift. So yeah.
SPEAKER_08I know it's just the scale of coin. Have you been buying all the lures as well?
SPEAKER_01No, because I early doors I got one of the best rods. I really saved up and got one of the best rods. Oh then, yeah, sort of the heavy-duty rods, so and then I that was the first thing I sort of done, and then I haven't got all the lures, but I got I kept buying lures for where I was for different fish as I went along. Um, and then I I saved up. Um I'd done that idle mode, 1600 gold coins. Then I saved up a load more, and I got about can't remember what it was now, it's about 3,000 coins, something like that for the boat. I thought I'm just going all in on the boat. Once I've got it, I got it, and then you know, expand the the the how many fish you can have. You can have about 10 on there, I think, something like that.
SPEAKER_09So well I did well.
SPEAKER_08This is classic me as well. I I bought the boat, skinted myself, and then realized that the capacit even though it was a speed boat, the capacity was less. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So I next to one outfused.
GTA Comparisons, DLC, And Design
SPEAKER_08Okay, it doesn't really matter how quick it moves backwards and forwards if it's in idle mode, so basically punish me stuck in back him in the wooden boat because it had the bigger hold and went, right, go earn me a big hold on the uh on the speed boat, crack on. Uh which he did. So I've now switched over to the speedboat. I had a lot of fun with that. The only other game I've been playing, um, because I probably played a Prether of PS2 drivel over the weekend, actually, and I've forgotten what I played. And I don't want to go disturb my pile because we've got a special pile pile going for Flashy P this week, haven't we?
SPEAKER_01Got a little bit of a special episode going this week, haven't we? So stay tuned for that.
SPEAKER_08Junk.
SPEAKER_01No, not yet.
SPEAKER_08You don't, in fact, and no one wants to hear what PS2 games have been playing today. I think we need to move on from that on this show. Yeah. Yeah. No, that's that's that's that's okay. Have I talked on air about the Avatar game?
SPEAKER_01What the PS3 one? Yeah. No, I believe that was me and you off air on the phone, I believe.
SPEAKER_08This is why I feel like I don't know, I don't even own my own self anymore. I feel like every conversation I have is recorded. It's all do you know what?
SPEAKER_01You've you've felt like this ever since you put about 200 hours in No Man's Sky VR, and that confused you as to what your real life was. I think you thought No Man's Sky was your life, and this was the VR.
SPEAKER_08Oh mate, with flashy beer and everything, I just seemed uh and then editing and listening to bits and bobs as you put them out. I don't even know what conversations I'm even in anymore.
SPEAKER_01I done I had to last week I had to edit two shows, and I had to keep I'd done one, got halfway through, and thought I put the wrong theme tune on because I was editing the wrong show. I was like, oh no, start again. Here we go.
SPEAKER_07You shouldn't just put it out as it was.
SPEAKER_01Oh, imagine the confusion. U CP theme tune. Hello, and welcome to flashback.
SPEAKER_08What that flashback tune's an absolute banger, mate.
SPEAKER_01That is brilliant. I love that tune.
SPEAKER_08Dell, down, down, down, down, down, bell. Yeah. If you don't know, we do have another channel. Uh show called Flashback. Yeah, you should check it out if you're into video game history, I would say.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_08Uh leave a bit of intrigue on the table. Links everywhere. Actually, we'll try and get a link on the Instagram if that's where you even look at us anymore. You've got to think that's probably dead app. X is dead. Anyway, what we're talking about, they didn't come in to listen to that. They came in to listen to me talk about video games. At least I think they did. If you want to hear me prattle on about other things, you better let me know. Um third show. The third show, general prattle.
SPEAKER_00Outbreakers can't do three.
SPEAKER_08General prattle, I might be able to manage. Um, although it would be about video games, wouldn't it? Let's face it.
SPEAKER_01They'd end up on them.
SPEAKER_08God boy, sick. Uh, the other game I was playing when I actually then picked up my headphones was uh Zelda Breath of the Wild Switch 2 edition.
SPEAKER_01Really? Now I did not expect you to say this.
SPEAKER_08I thought you'd say this.
SPEAKER_01You're a bit of an out and out hater of the uh B O T W. Wasn't I'm an out of out hater No, that was actually when I said that I actually thought it was a bit harsh because you're not fond of it. You're not fond of it, it's not your sort of game.
SPEAKER_08It's not my car and a Zelda.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_08As we talked about before. Yes, yes, it's not my car and a Zelda. Anyway, got myself submerged in the Duvet, headphones in, got the switch two out. Playing a bit of breath of the Breath of the Wild. I was gonna say Breath of the Kingdom then, but there you go. So playing a bit of this, thought I fully submerged myself, lights off, graphic enhancer as Tom OG, sorry, legally obliged to call him OG would uh call it. Graphic enhancer basically turning the lights off. Um actually found myself quite enjoying it. So I got out the Simmerdown. Okay, sorry. Simmer down. There's more to come on this, isn't it? I'm nervous to commit because we've got the Ponzies, and I realise that, like, you know, I'm here breath in the wild on the Ponzies.
SPEAKER_00Exactly.
SPEAKER_08Exactly. So I'm boxed in. I want to play the games I want to, and I want to enjoy the games I want to enjoy, but I've got to keep my palette clean so I can be all over the latest games.
SPEAKER_01So just make sure you play ten latest games and then just play whatever you want the rest of the year. I just want to play what I want to play. I don't.
SPEAKER_08But I find myself on a podcast where I'm the host that talks about uh modern video games. Uh so it's a bit difficult. So I need to give my head a wobble and turn the PS5 back on, I'd imagine. Um, but Breath of the Wild, I really quite enjoyed. It was that moment of just kind of finding the calm space and time to start it. Did the four first four of the shrines. Um obviously you met Mate, he sat and listened to what an absolute ass munch as well. You know, I'd forgot that he was on the roof. I forgot he was on the roof.
SPEAKER_07Make me where the temples intersect, and I'll see you there for your present. Even more shenanigans, because I told you you were gonna get the glider after the first one, but now I have I've made it now.
SPEAKER_08This yes, the king Olaf, yes, or whatever your name is. Yeah, no worries, mate. And then he meets you fine one final time. Ah no, he comes in on the glider every time as well, just absolutely to rub it in.
SPEAKER_01Oh, god, yeah.
SPEAKER_08You know that thing you wanted, yeah. Yeah, I see you with it. Before I give it to you, you must meet me where. So then I'm holding my bloody um good job.
SPEAKER_01You should have done the switch where he glided in, just went, uh oh, you walked here. Oh wow.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, you need one of these.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, give it to me. I didn't notice one of the diagolog options was give me the glider.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_08So I I was holding up my phone and I was like, Oh, of course it's the church. Yeah, God, of course it is, right. Okay, go there. So I make my way there and I'm walking around. And I've obviously done all this before, but and I'm like, where there? I go inside, like, no, this ain't it. Outside, no, this ain't it. I put a little marker on the map, so I'm like, I'm right on it. Hang on a minute. He's on the roof. So up I go, and there he is, like, hello!
SPEAKER_00Oh, hello. Did you climb up here?
SPEAKER_07Really? I hate you.
SPEAKER_08So then I got I got that done, and it was bedtime. I was I was a bit bush, so I kind of sacked it off. And and here we find ourselves. So it's been a bit of a hectic, sort of broken week, really, in terms of gaming. I like I say, I think there's a bit more PS2 action, but I think I've probably overdone it a little bit on the retro lately, so I need to uh ease back on the throttle, unless the listeners want to hear me go toe-to-toe with Seb and me try and justify why Command and Conquer on the PS1 should be the Ponzi 2026 game of the year. Uh you could do well, let me know.
SPEAKER_01If it does get a bit hectic, you could do your uh your line that you used in the Ponzi's when he was talking about you playing retro and you just went, Simmer down, Seb, Daddy's talking.
SPEAKER_08Quite right. I lost my I lost myself for a moment there, didn't I?
SPEAKER_01Fantastic. Dad mode kicked in. Simmer down, son. Daddy's talking.
SPEAKER_08To be fair, you know, I let him play with a train set, so I suppose I shouldn't be surprised if I get run down by a train. Uh I think it's time. My throat's clear. I've been to my uh singing lessons. Oh good. We're gonna go OG boon, because I've forgotten what we did for the redo. So uh I now remembered how it goes.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you're feeling it. I can see you're feeling it. You're moisturing your lips.
SPEAKER_08Do you want to give me a bit of a zangifief? Do you want to give me a style that you'd like it sang in, and I'll try to I'll give it a go.
SPEAKER_01A style? Yeah. I would go for I was thinking operatic, but I wouldn't do that to you.
SPEAKER_07I'm so regarded to say myself already.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because your mic doesn't handle the high pitch notes very well. So you just sit in there just mutantly warbling at the top of your voice, like the trio advert. Yeah. Um wow, deep that's one for that's a blast of the past. Not many of the listeners will know.
SPEAKER_08That one bloke just went, Oh, I want to back up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, I love trios and clubs. Um I am gonna go for a bit like Mike Skinner off the streets, like what um Scott was doing on the Ponzi's with his little rhymes. So I want you to give it that urban, edgy, almost talking style. Go.
SPEAKER_03Hang on, let me remember this song. This is gonna be beautiful.
Combat Flow, Difficulty, And Value
SPEAKER_01This is not good for an audio show. He's he's running up for his head, but if you're watching video, you can see the practice. Here we go, come on.
SPEAKER_08RGT. Yeah. He's like a light rager. Bring hidden gems to me.
SPEAKER_00Beautiful.
SPEAKER_09How did that I don't quite know?
SPEAKER_08I was all fired up to do the proper song today, you know. I was not prepared to say I'll do it in a style, and then you suggest it be that, and I have no idea. How did that carry out? How did that come across?
SPEAKER_01It was shorter, but beautiful.
SPEAKER_08Did it have that skinner vibe, or did I take the mister Mark?
SPEAKER_01A bit more of a Delboy, but you you were still there, there, thereabouts, you know.
SPEAKER_08My southern accents range from Dell Boy to dead, basically. So you you were lucky you got what you got.
SPEAKER_01You know, but yeah, you got to the point and it was straight, and you got your message across, which is the important thing.
SPEAKER_08Oh no.
SPEAKER_01Why, what you done?
SPEAKER_08Pick me bag over, I oh no. Anywho. Yeah, let's play the guessing game. So this time I want a genre.
SPEAKER_01Um I would say this is RPG slash. No do the motion the urination or the line. No, not the see you're still Mike Skinny using the street slang. No, not the urination. Um RPG slash dungeon crawler.
SPEAKER_08Oh wow. Okay. And a year?
SPEAKER_01Um 2007. That's not retro. How dare you!
SPEAKER_07How dare you!
SPEAKER_01I had PS5 games on here, you're numpty. Roll again.
SPEAKER_09Um Okay. 2007.
SPEAKER_01Platforms. Uh platformer.
SPEAKER_08Um, it's an exclusive, is it?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, as far as I know, yes it is. Uh PSP.
SPEAKER_09What?
SPEAKER_01If you will Oh you wouldn't What do you think it could be, George?
SPEAKER_09Is it f no, you wouldn't, no, give me the publisher.
SPEAKER_01Um it is published depending on what region you're in. Either take two or two K, depending on what what region you're in, depending on it's made by uh Supervillain Studio.
SPEAKER_08Oh, I'm out. Oh white night no.
SPEAKER_01No. This origin this is like a third installment of a game, but the other two were like PC games. Click with a mouse sort of thing. Hmm, I've got you intrigued. Do I own it? I'd be very surprised if you didn't. You've been the PSP guru that you are.
SPEAKER_08Uh let me know what the game is, and we'll see if I do own it.
SPEAKER_01I'll show the audio listeners first.
SPEAKER_08The video listeners. I don't own this, didn't know anything about this. Oh, got one.
SPEAKER_09I'm so I'm like in I am I'm sat up like a little begging doggy for this one. Look at me. A game I didn't know about.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this is Dungeon Siege uh Throne of Agony.
SPEAKER_08Um you show me the back of it and the video listener viewers also. The uh oh mate, I have never seen this before in the wild or anything.
SPEAKER_01This was just a random pickup a few years ago for me from a game shop for a couple of pounds and thought I'll give it a go. Um it's basically um it's quite a basic sort of dungeon called RPG, so it's got that isometric Diablo view.
SPEAKER_08I was gonna ask, is it a Diablo clone?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but it's but I think Dungeon Siege has been quite a big thing on computers in the past, so I don't know if it's much of a clone or in the same genre, if you know what I mean.
SPEAKER_08Um is this episode been the attack of the attack of the clones?
SPEAKER_01Very good. I like that. That's good. Too quick for me, boy.
SPEAKER_09Um I don't know about that. Cut myself on it.
SPEAKER_01It's the thing I like about it, is it's very easy to pick up and play. It's got the RPG elements. You can you've got a choice of three characters, you can upgrade your characters, you could take one of them as a partner to find out.
SPEAKER_08What man, woman, child?
SPEAKER_01Uh no, a small sort of ogre wizard man, I think. I always just go with the big guy. Um is that a life rule or yeah, definitely. That's how I roll. Edit that out.
SPEAKER_09No, leave that in.
SPEAKER_01Um anyway, I'll try and describe this game. Um, yeah, so it's it I want that on a t-shirt. It follows on from Dungeon Siege 2, but you don't need to have played that. You literally wash up at a beach at the start. There's this um like evil force are taking over the area, so there's monsters and ghouls and that attacking you, and you have to go around, do these missions in certain areas, um, complete the missions as you go along, you sort of hack and slash, you'll upgrade as you go through to the next area. Um, like I say, it's got nice RPG elements, not too complicated. It's a very basic story, but it doesn't need to be too much. But it's a very it's perfect for the PSP because I find with a PSP when you got it on you like for you, instance, George, you're away with work, you've got a PSP, you can click it on, do a few areas, clear a couple of missions, turn it off again, away you go. It's that real it fits so well into the handheld sort of genre.
SPEAKER_08Um, I think how does it present the story to you?
SPEAKER_01It just gives you the story at the start. It's like um um, if I remember rightly, it's like the it gives you some little scenes, but it's like the comic book where you you know the talking and that is in speech bubbles, blah blah blah blah blah blah like infamous, yeah. Pretty much um it's pretty basic, but that's good as a good thing on this. I think if you want to buy this now, you can pick it up for between two and four pounds. Um it's quite widely available. Um I just how come I've never seen it?
SPEAKER_08Like when you show when you held that box up, honestly, mate, I've never seen that before. Not Blaom on that throne. I've I recognise the Dungeon Siege logo, obviously, but I've never seen it on PSP.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's definitely worth a look. I mean, like I say, it's not it's not hardcore like Diablo, it's not like a real big, you know, technical dungeon crawl.
SPEAKER_08Was it built around the PSP's ad hoc multiplayer capabilities?
SPEAKER_01Yes, it was. So you can you it's a single player game, but you can because you have you could choose one of the other characters as a partner to fight with you, yeah. You can then do the ad hoc with a friend, and then you'll have four people. So you'll have two characters you're controlling and two characters fighting with you, and you can go through the story together.
SPEAKER_08That's cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so it's got that nice.
SPEAKER_08Does it feel like Empty without that though, or not?
SPEAKER_01No, it's like I say, it's you know, it's it's smaller maps, and you're not gonna come across you know hundreds and hordes and hordes of enemies. You'll find them as you go in areas as you're checking out, collecting chests, you'll find um bodies there as well that you can rummage through and get coins and bits to add in a shop to buy extra weapons or um your um your medicine that you can take to keep your health up. Um, and it's it's just a good fun game. It's quite nice graphics. The first area is I wondered about the graphics. Yeah, the graphics are quite nice. The first area is a bit green and a bit barren, but you then you go through to a little village area. Um, I think I haven't got that further as you go further along. I think you go down into dungeons and bits as well. Um, so it's it's a nice little mix-up of where you go. Um, back in the box shows dungeons as well. So I think later on you do. And I just think for the money for a PSP game, I think it's a brilliant little game. So yeah, Dungeon Siege, Throne of Agony PSP.
SPEAKER_08Um nice. One I don't own. I'm gonna walk in and find out you've got five copies of it now.
SPEAKER_01Sealed.
unknownSealed, yeah.
SPEAKER_01And you have and you'd broke the seal on one of them, played it four years ago and hated it.
SPEAKER_09No, loved it that much that I bought four copies sealed and never played it again.
SPEAKER_01Played the first level.
SPEAKER_09Best game on PSP, get five copies now.
SPEAKER_01Getting it graded, getting it graded.
Community Playthrough And Discord Invite
SPEAKER_08No, I can I can honestly say that's that's not true.
SPEAKER_01I will just also add this is January's hidden gem because I waited a week for you to be on to do this. So in the next in the next two weeks to three weeks, I'll be doing February's hidden gem.
SPEAKER_08Okay, well one a month, so have a look think about the style you want to crucify me with. Um with all that said and done, I reckon. Oh, hang on a minute. Weekly cadence, bit of housekeeping before we get into the news RGT. Yes, people aren't stupid to think they've worked it out, but we've got a new cadence going on. So Sunday, ready for Monday, or you can gorge on it immediately. You you eat it how you like, many do. Many do, many do. Gorge the show Sunday morning, all in the audio version. It'll appear on Monday on YouTube as the audio version. Happy days. Then you wait until Tuesday, you get your dose of flashy B, and that's taking off like hotspanners all over the place. So make sure you get into that. Find it on your Spotify, on your iTunes and on your YouTube's, right? RGT? We know that. They go on there, and then on the Wednesday, you're gonna get a slice of UCP video version of the main show, RGT. That's correct. So it's correct, yeah. We're gonna give you slice after slice after slice. We're we're halfway through the week, RGT, and we just keep giving. It's and bizarrely, it's free.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we must be.
SPEAKER_08It's flashy bee free.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Yep, free gratis, yeah, nothing. We do and a love of games.
SPEAKER_08And you well, games. Wow. Well, there you go. I think maybe. Do we go do we go flashy B video Thursday? We need titles though. Leave that with us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll see. I might be a bit early for videos on Flashy B as yet, but we'll see.
SPEAKER_08No, I think it's time to unleash the PewS bedroom upon the Flashy B audio listeners.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I did I had a comment from a listener this week.
SPEAKER_08You could rip the living hell out of mine. I mean, what did someone say the other day? These guys have barely got a hair follicle between them and the main gobshite's got a picture of Jason Donovan on the wall. I mean, what can I say? I mean, we did need bringing down a Peggy. We got a little bit ahead of ourselves recently, haven't we? Talking flashy bee and Ponces and wearing bow ties and whatnot.
SPEAKER_01I mean Well, you have. I mean, I think I've been quite modest. But anyway, um I did have a comment this week from a listener who came out and who's quite new to the show and said, Um, stop bullying George. No, it's come the other way around. He said, George, uh, must have been an older show. He said, George, he almost told you to have off the other week. Was he serious? Was he real? I was like, No, no, no, no, no. No. I said, No, he wasn't.
SPEAKER_09What episode was this?
Infamous On PS3: Early Impressions
SPEAKER_01I don't know. I think we were I don't know if I was winding you up or whatever, and we were having a laugh. And he was like, Oh god, I thought he was really serious. I was like, nope, nope, nope. So yes, don't worry, Chris.
SPEAKER_08I'm a shame, guys. Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, don't worry, Chris. Um, me and George, we're we're like brothers, aren't we? We we get on very well. I saw I saw just uh I saw just Japes.
SPEAKER_08Well, I don't remember, so maybe it was real.
SPEAKER_01Maybe, but anyway, don't ruin that. I told I told him I wasn't. I don't want your realms.
SPEAKER_08Oh, I'll tell you what, flashbacks have a really bad effect on my JD George persona. I'm finding it very hard to be UCP George breaking the fourth wall. Whereas we do play characters ourselves.
SPEAKER_01I think the last um flashback we'd done, I did have to uh pull you back a couple of times because you started slowly sliding down.
SPEAKER_08I don't know, I don't know who I am.
SPEAKER_01No, I gathered that. I don't think you know who I am, because you called me Tim twice. Is that what you name? There we go. Right, shall we get on to the news?
SPEAKER_08It's time for the news of scattering, darkest rooms of the internet to bring you the latest stories first up! Um your news is in the docket, by the way, handsome man. You told me I was prepared today.
SPEAKER_01And I am. I have no idea where mine is. It's in the chat. If you send it before we come on air and then it won't show, you have to send it while we're on air.
SPEAKER_08Why do you always break out like things don't work properly when I do them and actually they're working absolutely fine? Have they worked properly? Well, one could argue, yeah. Now we've got it, because you've seen it. Oh well, you know, now you've got it. As if I've done anything. Listeners, look. Yeah, sorry, listeners.
SPEAKER_09Unless I'm moving it with like little tin.
SPEAKER_01I suppose you put up with amateur hour for seven years, so we might as well carry on. Anyway, what's first up?
SPEAKER_08Oh, no, things are changing now, RGT. We're in the 4K RGT era. I mean, look out. Business just picked up, Chief.
SPEAKER_01I need a 4K camera first.
SPEAKER_08Um ball market quality is evident. I mean, I'm looking like I'm on I look like the bamboozle guy.
SPEAKER_01No, I said you look like watchdogs.
SPEAKER_08Oh, yeah, that was it. Yeah, well, I now think I look like the bamboozle guy from uh teletext.
SPEAKER_01You got the hood, you got the hat, it looks as if you're about to go and hack a security camera.
SPEAKER_08I think that makes probably most sort of career sense to me right now. Anyway, let's get into this because once again, as always, when I'm at the wheelhouse of the show, we got some news. I know she didn't do any news last week, you just indulged Seb's indie divulgence.
SPEAKER_01You I daren't stop him. If he's on an indie run, he goes proper mental. If you stop him, it was like it was like watching him and Scotty wrestle the ball. That was we just had to just had to tame him. That was a a new stallion, just taming that stallion down a bit because he was he was on an indie. Indian, he was on he was on an indie vibe.
SPEAKER_07I'm not cutting this out. You can you you can you can let it all rhyme out on the internet now, boy.
SPEAKER_00Don't because I'm gonna go over it. Don't I'm gonna laugh my ass off in a minute, don't stop. Right, read the news for God's sake.
SPEAKER_09Oh god, I guess someone Indians are yourself.
SPEAKER_08Right, let's have a look, see what we got here. So, as I was saying, I'm in the wheelhouse of the news show right now, so we're gonna go Holy Trinity. I know you've not been respecting the Holy Trinity while I've been away. So here I am to put it right. Not Sammy though. Wow, hero. Thanks, mate. Over at Bush Square, we've got Stephen Tailby. Now I'd imagine he's uh he's a tall man, so he tells me he's been bullying all his life about whether he's got a tail or not. Um I'd say he has. But let's not make a big thing of it because this news is pure fire. I kid you not. I saw this. You're building it up. Listen, let me build it up, let me get the hype machine. I saw this, I was scrolling through and I saw it, and I was like, boom, my eyes, boof, out in sockets, slap back in again, had to scrub them to make sure what I was seeing was true.
SPEAKER_01My name is May 04, mate.
SPEAKER_08Take a seat for a moment and let the real gamers, let the real freaking gamers are you to tell everybody about this gangbuster news. Thank you to Stephen Tolby at Push Square because guess what? The team behind Trainsim World is making a full Thomas and Friends game for PS5 and PS4. People always talk about how IO Interactive and the James Bond licence are a match made in heaven. But we think there's a new pair in Takes the Biscuit. Thomas and Friends Wonder of Sodor has just been announced, and it comes from Dovetail Games, the studio behind Train Sim World. Head on over. Are you really reading his story? Yep. Head on over to YouTube. This is why it's here, dude, because it is, and I tell you what, when you see it, you will be like mind blown. Developed in collaboration with Mattel. The game has you taking control of several characters from a popular kids' show and TV series, including Thomas, Percy, Gordon, Diesel, Emily, James, who's a separate purchase or included in the deluxe of it. Jesus. The entire island of Sodor recreated as faithfully as possible, is present and yours to explore in the game, and there are a few ways to play. Firstly, there are eight stories to play through, which include classic and original titles inspired by the source material. These stories narrated by Mark Marahan, who provided his voice for the TV show for many years. Secondly, the timetable mode, which lets you play a day in the life of one of the characters carrying out their duties. You can also do as you please in explore mode, allowing you to walk around Sodor in first person and ride and drive trains at your leisure. You'll be able to freely play characters along the route, create your own scenes too. There's also something called the shunting challenge in which you need to move troublesome trucks into certain orders as few moves as possible. The game has simplified controls to make it accessible for players of all ages and skill levels, but for trained sim world fanatics, there'll also be some realistic control options. There's no release date yet in place, but the game's coming to PS5, PS4, where it will cost£29.99 English pounds, 3499 European Euros, and 39 decimal 99 Americand dollars for the standard edition. RGT.
SPEAKER_01Right. Before we go any further, sorry to everyone if if you've come for hot off the press gaming news.
SPEAKER_08This is hot off the press gaming news. Literally today.
SPEAKER_01Are you all right?
SPEAKER_09Why? What's wrong with me?
SPEAKER_01This is I'm in a different room. You're talking about Thomas the Tank engine. This has gone very dream like. I'm not sure.
SPEAKER_08I am the dream lord. Welcome to hell. Are you sure we're alright? Yeah, I'm totally fine. Listen, let me tell you about why this is interesting. Because if you hop over, first of all, obviously, I wouldn't normally be bringing in, I would not normally be bringing in a Thomas Atank Engine game. Of course I wouldn't. But the fact that they've gone somehow collaborated with the guys who make the full on, and I mean to the pixel, full detail, train sim, that they've actually combined to recreate the entire island of Soda. Now you scoff, but when you see the trailer, oh mate, it looks like an episode. It looks awesome.
SPEAKER_01Oh good. I'll uh I'll check out.
SPEAKER_08I hate you sometimes. I got all excited about this. I actually thought that was quite interesting news.
SPEAKER_01I I thought there was gonna be, you know, I know you like your train sims, and I know you like your classic tourists.
SPEAKER_08I'm hurt. After the Ponces, now this, I tell you what.
Traversal, Morality, And Series DNA
SPEAKER_01I mean, is your next bit of news gonna be a new game for Paul Patrol, or is it gonna be you know get rid of the bluey news?
SPEAKER_08Get rid of bluey news, get me some about give me some get me some switch, get me some switch, get it now. Yeah, my career's on the line.
SPEAKER_01Probably gaming news. Yeah, that's what we need. Um yeah. Well, is Thomas Tank or take take it, Thomas Tankins is still a thing then for them to be making a game about it?
SPEAKER_08Get a grip of yourself, mate. Come on, I'm not here to entertain this. You want a drum before I told you to F off on an episode. I mean you're close. I'm done with you. This is big news.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, go on and you fill us in why this is big news.
SPEAKER_08But the people from Train Sin, which I love, which is out and out, probably one of the most realistic, if not the most realistic sims, and it is actually, do you know what, quite a fun little game. Have actually got together with the people that make Thomas to bring this out. And I think this is phenomenal. What a mashup this is. This is beautiful. What's wrong with you?
SPEAKER_01I mean, if you're gonna use a children's train show, you're gonna need and you're gonna make a game. I suppose the people behind train simulator are the people to do it.
SPEAKER_08We are playing, we're doing a we're doing a I don't know if you know this, but we're doing a gaming show about kids' toys.
SPEAKER_01All right. Anyway, next up from Pure Xbox, we've got the hell's wrong with you.
SPEAKER_08Honestly, like OG would have been all over that. We have younger listeners, don't you forget that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm sure they're really into Thomas a tank engine.
SPEAKER_08And dads are like, yeah, actually, that could be cool. Bit of dad sometime on the PlayStation or Xbox with the boy. We can do a little bit of Thomas. I've already got a bit of a realistic edge, so when he goes up to bed at night, I'll lash up like 20 cold trucks behind Thomas and watch him sweat. What's wrong with you? Why do I have to teach you how to extract value every time?
SPEAKER_01I'll be honest, you you nearly had me then when you said father-son sit there play a game together. I thought, okay, I've misread this, fair enough. But then you had to end by, yeah, once the boy's gone to bed, I'm gonna hook up 20 cold trucks and make Thomas sweat.
SPEAKER_09Yeah, let's see how powerful this tank engine is. What is his break horsepower?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I don't know if that's gonna be that detailed in the game.
SPEAKER_08I I think there will be an upper limit of carriages it can pull. So I want to know what Thomas's is. I want to see can he can Gordon pull more than Thomas? Um are you gonna pre-order this or I'll get it in a sale, but I might play around. I definitely might get it and play around with it. So it might be, I'll tell you what.
SPEAKER_01Well, we need a review of this when you're coming out this year. Poop poop. Oh my god. Please, now you've said that. Are they an indie studio? I will buy it for you. Are they indie? They are. I think they are cast as indie. Get that and slap that in. If you're listening, Seb, you've you've got a year coming at the end of this year. You've got some games there. I've played PS3 this whole year so far, so that's gonna go down well.
SPEAKER_08Give me this proper big boys news, then. Come on, what have you got?
SPEAKER_01Anyway, moving on. Um, pure Xbox.
SPEAKER_08Um I'm never gonna recover from this, by the way.
SPEAKER_01No, you're not. There's gonna be a t-shirt. Badabinkster, get a t-shirt done for this. We want Thomas with my face on home. Yeah, we want George's own train next to Gordon and Thomas.
SPEAKER_08Or am I the fat controller?
SPEAKER_01No, that's me.
SPEAKER_08Um the same shape. Hey, you've been on the Mangano now, you famous.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, pure Xbox by Ben Kerry.
SPEAKER_08Someone say you've gone a bit too far. You've got that little Kelly Osborne look going on about you these days.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, by Ben Kerry. Xbox is Xbox is reporting.
SPEAKER_09I'm gonna get banned from the internet by the time this episode. This is how you know it's not flashy VR, GT.
SPEAKER_01Definitely. So I've tried to say this one story about four times.
SPEAKER_08Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Right, are we ready?
SPEAKER_08I'm sat comfortably now.
SPEAKER_01Right. Xbox is reportedly releasing a brand new controller revision in 2026, a year before NextGen is set to arrive. As part of a Hood's report over at The Verge, journalist Tom Warren has revealed that Microsoft's Next Gen Xbox controller revision is coming this year. After it reportedly originally cancelled, uh, it was cancelled in 2024 when plans reportedly changed at Xbox HQ. Indeed, we heard about the Xbox Sybil controller revision years ago, and it sounds as though some form of the new pad will release here in 2026. Warren says that this year's revised controller includes Wi-Fi connectivity to reduce Xbox Cloud Gaming Latency. Um, he says, I am hearing Microsoft has green lit the next gen Xbox controllers that include Wi-Fi connectivity to reduce Xbox Cloud Gaming Latency. A new Xbox controller was originally planned for 2024 alongside a cancelled Xbox Series X refresh. The report doesn't go into detail about these old Sybil file uh features we heard back in 2023, um, such as haptic feedback, modular thumbsticks, and a rechargeable battery and more. For now, all of Verge is reporting on is that the improved latency feature. He is hoping Xbox has more up its sleeve regarding this 2026 controller revision. Finally, the report also name drops Jess Corden's previous reporting on an Elite Series 3 controller potentially coming this year, but doesn't go as far as collaborating um that just yet. Uh Warren simply says that an Elite 3 would align with a rollout of next-gen Xbox controllers if it's indeed coming in 2026 as well. Of course, the Verge's information is just a report uh for now too, so it's worth taking into all taking it all with a pinch of salt until we hear more from Microsoft. Remember, we thought we were getting a big Xbox controller overhaul way back in 2024, and we're still using the Launch Series XS controllers to this day.
SPEAKER_08What do you make of all this, RGT?
SPEAKER_01Well, I know I remember about oh two years into this generation, um, with how well the dual sense was doing, Xbox sort of came out and said, Oh, we're gonna do a haptics and um adaptive trigger controller, and then like you say, it was cancelled, they never did come out with that. Um, I think as well, if you've got both consoles, um I think I know a lot of people say, 'Oh, you know, a lot of the stuff in the PS5 controller isn't used by people all the time.' You always get like one of the things, you know. I think when I'm playing Final Fantasy Rebirth, you get brilliant use of the speaker in the controller. Um, you get the haptics, you get the nice adaptive trigger, you get a bit of everything in that, which is really nice. But a lot of the time I think you get used to it. Because when I went back to playing Forza Horizon on my Series X after not using the controller for a long time, it felt empty on you know, in the feel front, because you've got a bit of rumble, and that was a bit it, and the triggers didn't feel quite right. And I know people I love the shape of the Series XS controller, I think it's a very, you know, ergonometry, it's very good in your hands, but it it is lacking something. You get sort of used to detect this in a dual sense. So I think it's a great way to go. I think if Xbox did release a controller with with haptics and adaptive triggers, and especially with this latency, this added Wi-Fi in that's a great idea. I mean, I know when the when the PS4 they had the built-in Wi-Fi, you could play the um um games on your phone, you know, like um what is it, Knowledge's power and all that, like you can link your phone to the interior Wi-Fi. If they do that with a controller to improve their cloud game, which is all all you know already very good, yeah. I mean, that's just a win-win, you know, if you're if you're predominantly an Xbox gamer, it's a win-win, I think.
SPEAKER_08I mean, I see a lot of good here. Um, you've got to wonder why they didn't do it before.
SPEAKER_01Um they're a bit all over the place with what's happening at the moment, you know.
Short Games, Menus, And PS3 Aesthetics
SPEAKER_08They need money, but they could put a controller out and immediately get actual revenue in. You know, it's something that people have to buy or would like to buy, especially if they've had the plans and pretty much dare to release it, you know. Yeah, exactly. That so it seems a bit of a shame that we're still not there yet. Um I I I like the idea of everything it's doing. I was recently on the Series uh S this weekend, actually, to be fair. And one thing that strikes you about it more than the ergonomics, which are probably a positive for Xbox, but and disregarding the haptics and all that sort of gizmos, the thing that really bugs me about it is I'm slapping a couple of double A's innit. Yeah, I know I can get a a dock, but they're normally Mickey Mouse and fall apart and you're messing about, so you've got to. You put in AA batteries in people say it's consumer friendly, you know, because you know, you know, if one day the battery pack goes in the PSP light, yeah, I'll worry about that when it does. Uh, until then, I just want to charge it, sit down, and go. I don't want to be rumbling through a drawer of the AA, slapping them in there like a yeah, I know what you mean.
SPEAKER_01I've never been a fan, and I know some people do prefer that. Um button.
SPEAKER_08And on 360, to be fair, I had an official battery pack, so maybe it's just me not routing down the proper accessories, but there's just something obviously since the bifurcation of like the 360 and the PS3 and PlayStation chose one sort of controller route and Xbox the other. Yeah, fine. But I just like the idea of being able to charge it, it's so much easier, you know. It saves messing about.
SPEAKER_01And especially with I mean, I think I think a lot of people forget how many extra features there is in a dual sense, so you can charge it from the bottom all the top, because it's got wireless charging, it's got the uh you can charge it with the USB-C, it's got the two microphones, it's got the speaker, it's got it's so many bits more added tech, the touchpad. Now, I'm not saying all that tech is worth having on there, but it's so user-friendly when you finish your game and your stand is also your charging dot, you just drop it in, bang, and that's always going to be fully charged every time you use it. Yeah, it's so much easier, it really does. You know, just having that, and then you you know, if you break it and you get a cheaper aftermarket one, you can charge it from the top, you can charge it from the bottom. You know, it's it's there's a lot of user-friendliness in it. And I know a lot of people were worried with um, I think even Xbox said this when this gen uh arrived that they were worried about the longevity of the dual sense and the reliability of them. Um I'm still using my original PS5 controllers, I've never had no problem with them.
SPEAKER_08I know some people do and different controllers, but um yeah, my controller's kind of been in the round robbing a little bit, so I don't know what's my original one and what's not. But uh generally though, I've never had a problem with them. Um you get the updates coming down the pipe for them as well, which obviously is is is good. Obviously, a little bit of tweak here and there that you get every now and then. It was nice as that evolved to be a wireless experience in the end, which was good. Obviously, because you have to like, oh god, I've got to find out if you've already got the charging dock. We're talking PlayStation 5 here, guys. You know, you've got to then rumble around for that wire. And if you've got different ecosystems, you've got all these different ends, you're like God's sake, yeah. Right here we go, plug it in. Yes, download, okay, put the cable again, never to be seen again. You know, it's um it's obvious that's improved, and that's good, it's slick. Um, whether bringing a controller refresh mid-gen is actually worth it because who's gonna then make software for it really or utilize it properly?
SPEAKER_01Well, I would probably say that this is either gonna be a same controller as what their next console will be, or that next console is gonna be delayed. I would probably say if you're gonna be able to do it.
SPEAKER_08So, if that's the case, why not save this and make it special? I think is my other point. You know, why just place it just at the end of a pretty dismal uh for the most part, is really then of a dismal generation.
SPEAKER_01Depends how you know, if they are gonna delay and it's gonna be two or three years, well, make some money on on that controller now and refresh it a bit for the next gen, I suppose.
SPEAKER_08I guess sticking a digit valve in it.
SPEAKER_01Don't forget they've really pushed this everything as an Xbox. Let's get that controller out now to make that's to make that experience v even more seamless. You've got that controller, you've got that low, you know, that white.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, I guess if you're committed to the cloud gaming experience, this is your new controller. Uh you're technically our new sort of customer we're building everything around.
SPEAKER_01So I would imagine this controller isn't necessarily predominantly for an Xbox Series S or X.
SPEAKER_08If they go all in on that cloud gaming, though, are we not just weeks away from another Google Stadia or whatever it was called?
SPEAKER_01I mean, they've slowly been implementing it for a lot of years. Hopefully, they got a bit more experience and knowledge than what the Google had, and they went all in on it and it just didn't work. Whether you know you'd like to think Microsoft were their their tech and um not to say their their their brilliant cloud system they got that they can make a bit more of a go of it. They've also got consoles as a bit of a backup in case it doesn't, I suppose. Whereas Stadia they were one and done, you know, and hopefully this is maybe something that they can learn from the mistakes of Stadia and and try and implement their own version. But you know, if anyone's gonna do it, it's probably gonna be them.
Handheld Interlude: Cast And Chill Strategies
SPEAKER_08So yeah, I think we spoke off air. They always seem to be 10 years ahead of the curve, but then when the curve gets here, we've moved on to something else. So yeah, we'll see. Um I'm I'm happy for this. Let's just hope it actually comes out. Um, last bit of news completing the Trifector in Nintendo Life. Jim Norman, he's uh put an article together. It's uh Oblivion Skyrim and Fallout Switch 2 physicals will all be code in a box. Bethesda can Bethesda, Bethesda, Carlum White confirms Indy whips up a proper physical instead. Get ready for this, RGT. This is gonna get your uh get your uh Nintendo juices flowing. Bethesda is putting in quite a shift with the Switch 2 releases, it seems. After launching Skyrim last year, the studio revealed the release dates for Fallout 4 and Indiana Jones's Great Circle in today's partner showcase and wrapped things up with announcement that Oblivion remastered is coming our way too. It's good times on the Bethesda front, then, but perhaps not so much if you wanted to get all of the above as a nice physical release, you see. In a follow-up blog post, the studio confirmed that a bunch of them are going to be code in the box releases. Thanks for the heads up at Wario64. Fallout 4 anniversary edition, the Elder Scrolls 5 Skyrim Anniversary Edition, and the Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion Remastered will all be distributed physically as code in the box. The post revealed while Oblivion hasn't been given a firm release date just yet. Fallout and Skyrim's physicals will launch on 28th of April. Fallout arrives digitally on the 24th of February. Let's not forget, fortunately, Indy seems to be taking a different path, but Thesda confirmed that the game will be available as a physical game card at retail, which is important, not a game key, as Wario64 pointed out on Blue Sky. The pre-orders for this physical already live at Best Buy with a footnote that states game card is included with the physical version of standard edition. Internet and connection and download required to activate the Polish language in game. So there you have it. If you're after some extra Bethesda physicals throughout your collection, Indiana Jones is your only option that actually includes a cartridge. RGT, more switch game key, not game key, came card, game in a box situation going on over here, pal. What's this all about?
SPEAKER_01I think Indiana Jones, brilliant. Getting that on there on the card, I think it's fantastic. Um agreed. Great to have on the Switch. I mean, that'll do a good job of making that look good as well. I mean, I still think people underestimate how good some of the games do look on the Switch, the Switch 2, I should say, sorry. Um, but for the other games, I mean, how many more ports of Skyrim and Oblivion in that can we get? I mean, every time I see Todd come on there to reveal some games, and it's just another a remaster or another version, you're like, oh my god, you know, couldn't I have made a version of Starfield on the Switch too? Or do you know what I mean? Uh would that have been not more beneficial? Do we need more Starbucks? I doubt it.
SPEAKER_08I think there's probably a little bit more fanfure up. Listen, you've always got to remember you've got to look at this from the I'm a Nintendo only gamer point of view.
SPEAKER_01I know, but then didn't we get Skyrim on the original Switch?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, and you can get the anniversary version of it right now if you just stick it in your Switch 2. There's an upgrade path. So, you know, I think it's yeah, it's between$10 and$16.
SPEAKER_01I think we just get so many of these, you know, ports, not even remasters, just ports over to other systems. And I think Skyrim, I mean, it's probably one of the worst, and you just start to think, wouldn't your time be used better at doing something? Is there that much call switch 2 for Skyrim these days?
SPEAKER_08Well, like I say, that's already sorted. This is just for the physical boys. You might want the anniversary edition on their shelf for Switch 2 games, right?
SPEAKER_01It might be me wrong. I mean, I'm not a big spot.
SPEAKER_08Listen, you've you've literally come with your daggers out today. You've sat me down, told me off about the news. You've you've you know, proper news hat on, you brought some game controller stuff in. I've just brought in some Switch 2 news. You're right, I need to try harder. Ponce's was a failure. This is a failure. No, don't, no, don't. It's on me. This is it's my bad.
SPEAKER_01No, it is, but I'm just trying to make myself look better.
SPEAKER_09Um well, I don't think there's much time for that.
SPEAKER_01Um, no, I just think you know, wouldn't wouldn't their time be better, you know, going into another project? It just seems keep getting sky remount. I mean, but then again, they're only releasing it because there's probably sales of it every time they keep releasing it. So someone's buying it.
SPEAKER_08So hang on a minute. You know, are you not missing the point that this is a uh multi-platform release on Microsoft here?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, well, yeah, very true. Yeah, very true.
SPEAKER_08Fallout 4. We haven't ever seen a Fallout game on Nintendo Switch. If you're a Nintendo centric gamer, this is big news. Yeah, you've had Skyrim, but yeah, you're gonna get the sexy version now if you want it. Uh it's already out on the store. Um, Indiana Jones and Great Circle, I mean, as far as I'm concerned, that's a next-gen game, right? So the fact that Switch 2's dragged itself up to get a copy uh is incredible. Um, Oblivion remastered, we've seen that. Some could argue that's a next gen game as well. To see that running on Switch 2 handheld, great game to take on the go RGT. Yeah, it's old game, but remastered did a great job of sexing that game up. I should have putting that in my ponces, really, but there you go. Uh it's a bit late for that now. Um it's always this year. And Fallout 4, yeah, it's probably the most derivative and boring of the Fallouts, but hey, it's I think actually you've just hit down on a head there.
SPEAKER_01This is obvious a property that Microsoft has bought, and this is a way of them making some bank from a series of games that they've inherited.
SPEAKER_08Indiana Jones will be on your fridge before Christmas.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, yeah. Um, but then this is why they're making money off a catalogue that they've purchased without having to do a lot of work to it. So yeah, I can see your point from that. As as new owners, that is a way of making a few pounds. How are you gonna do that release on a system that hasn't had it before? So yeah.
SPEAKER_08Money to money. And I think to be fair, the switch community has been screaming out for these. Even I was thinking the other day, I'd like these on there. I'd like these on there a lot.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. I think when you've come over from other systems and you've just seen this so many times being re-released, you know, different versions and different versions. And it it for me, I just sometimes think, oh god, I can't see another trailer for Skyrim. I mean, that's gonna be on my scientific calculator next week.
SPEAKER_08It's just yeah, I think it's gonna get worse before it gets better because the new the new Elder Scrolls game's not exactly on the horizon, is it? Let's face it. I mean, that's been very oblique, it's not on the event horizon, I think. Yeah, I think you're probably you know, it's coming at some point in time, so's so's the end of the world. So to recap, I'm pumped to see that the Switch 2 is getting what I would call you know current gen games. You know, it's not like the Switch where it was a gen behind all the time. So this is this is positive. Yes, I know they're ports, but they're ports of games that you know Fallout 4 and I believe in Rio Masters are going to be ports of games that have got next gen ports on the current consoles, so it is special to get Indiana Jones in the great circle as well. I think is the icing on the cake. I think that's really good news.
SPEAKER_01It does, and it also shows sort of Xbox is now going down and Microsoft going down this different route of not trying to lure you over to their consoles. You can have their games on whatever console you play. Good for the consumer, uh whether that's good for the company, we'll wait and see.
SPEAKER_08But um well, we're starting to see the circle of that happen, aren't we? We we've seen people move to PlayStation 5 because they can get there all the games there then now, uh, because Microsoft will bring it there. So you might as well sit there and get your exclusives, although yeah, you can play Deanna Jones and jump on Ghost Shima. So you know it's but PlayStation need to double down on getting some more games out to justify that. What's the point of having a PlayStation? You might as well just have a Steam Deck, right?
SPEAKER_01Exactly, exactly.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, scary times. Yes that's the end of the news. Have you got any housekeeping for our dear listeners and viewers viewers with now a video show? Look at this. Spent thousands on the set.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, maybe not mine.
SPEAKER_08Um we were an audio show first. It's gonna take us a little while to transition to being a video show.
SPEAKER_01Only got what 38 pence in petty cash and an old Chewet.
SPEAKER_08So yeah, and we've both got faces that look like shoes you should have dis discarded about two years ago.
SPEAKER_01Well, don't know about you, but I I definitely have. You should have got rid of mine. Yeah, you don't want to look at me. Just zoom in on George if you want to.
SPEAKER_08Don't zoom in on me. Jesus Christ, I don't hold up scrutiny very well. He's got a bloody body of crime watch face of bloody no body, yeah, just crime watch basically. Good from a far, far from good. I think that works out pretty well to describe me. If you get them close up in the visceral detail, it's been like, oh my god, mate. Ewlicks are hanging together with spitting Baylor band. Look at you. And I do, I feel it. Also the ever increasing years make me think that I am not in the zeitgeist of the youth. I've got to wonder who who's watching our vids. But if if you resonate with us, tell a friend, or at least download it a couple of million times on your own phone so we can cash out and be like Logan Paul's or something.
SPEAKER_01Uh that was quite an old thing you just said then. You were doing well then, but then oh, you can cash out one of them Logan Pauls.
SPEAKER_08Thanks, Dad. I don't know how much more of this. I mean, is this part of the takeover?
SPEAKER_01We'll discuss this off air. Anyway, I've got your P45.
SPEAKER_08Um, proper Steve Jobs moment, isn't it?
SPEAKER_00Close the door the way out.
SPEAKER_08Um wow. Well, let's just hope it wasn't my ropey personality that was holding the show together all this time. But you know, it's been a ride.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you've had a good innings.
SPEAKER_08Yeah. I'm proud of what I've achieved, to be fair.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you've done bokeh. Um anyway, housekeeping this week. Um any questions? Questions at Unafficientholder Podcast?
SPEAKER_08I thought you were asking me.
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_08I was gonna say, like, yeah, I'll just know what's the severance deal, or you know, what sort of share ratio am I gonna get?
SPEAKER_01Or we'll speak about this afterwards. Um, we don't want to do this on air.
SPEAKER_08Well, you sound any questions, like there's a lot, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um yeah, questionpodcast.com. Um also if you want to join Discord, I think there's a link on Instagram on our Instagram, jump on there, jump into Discord.
SPEAKER_08Um that might need refreshing. I think we might need to revisit the Discord invites and make sure they're all up to snuff. If not, hit us up with an email or direct messages on any of the platforms that we've mentioned. Uh yeah, and then we'll send you a link straight to it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm on there. Retrogram and Thomas, message me if you want, and I'll send you a link to Discord.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, make us work like your slaves. Make us sweat for your Discord thing. Yeah, that'll get them in. We've already made a great place to come, but you've got to drag them, kicking and screaming. They want to feel like they've been dragged, kicking and screaming. In fact, no, they want you to come on bended knee with a little invite on a little red pillow. You've got to get down, you've got to be like, listen, sir, mom, we would really like you to. Yeah, so direct message RGT on Instagram and demand he present you with a Discord link.
SPEAKER_01Um, but yeah, if you want to come and join me, like I say, Gen 7 playthroughs. Um, we've got uh the challenge accepted this month. Is Tetris um Tetris um high score on now?
SPEAKER_08What format are we allowed to anyone?
SPEAKER_01Any, so part of the challenge is given.
SPEAKER_08What's the relevance of the score though?
Zelda BOTW Revisit And First Plateau
SPEAKER_01Um it is I think it's is it the first level or the however far you can go with your highest score, which I think at the moment however quick you can fill the screen with blocks. No, that's your highest score of the game. So yeah, that's that's not how you get a score. Um geez, game and podcast, my god. Um I think Tingle Tuners. Logan Paul listened to this. So and Ginji's back in the affray, so it's gonna be a bit of a head to head, I think. So unless someone else is or is that someone else?
SPEAKER_08Yeah, no, I've just googled youth things, and tip to tip was one that came up.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, um, so yes, if you're interested in challenge accepted or gen 7 playthrough, or um, I think it's once a week. Um, Digital Mungry also does a little channel called uh Let's Get Quizzical, and he does 10 questions, and you can they're blacked out the answers, and you can just see how many you get, you have to be honest.
SPEAKER_08So there's quizzical I've only just got the reference, and now I see him in a leotard.
SPEAKER_01He does wear a leotard quite a lot.
SPEAKER_06Let's get quiz a call, quiz a girl, let's get quiz a girl.
SPEAKER_05Let's get quiz a girl, let me hear your bad talk.
SPEAKER_01Jeez. That's gonna be in my head all day, no. Yeah, so anyway, so there's plenty to do on there. Come and say hi.
SPEAKER_08No, the image I want to see is our in your head is digital monkery in a leotard singing to you in a sultry voice. Let's get quizzical.
SPEAKER_01That's in there. In the bank, saved. God, I'm taking flashback.
SPEAKER_07Yeah, I tell you what.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, if you've managed to stay tuned to this far, but yes, jump on the Discord, come and join us. Any questions, anything you want to know, or find out about flashback or find out where to find our website, which is also um unofficial controller podcast.com. Um tweak that, but if you just type in your your www.unofficial controllerpodcast.com because it's too good not to be seen, dude. There's a mobile version and there's a website version.
SPEAKER_08And I think all the crazy kit uh cats will like that. I think it's right up the street as well.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and with the there's a hidden gem section as well. That's all just about been all updated now. I've been updating those, and Captain's been putting those on, and that's all down into platforms and years and bits and pieces. So, yeah, go and check that out. Um, and I think we're about there for um housekeeping, I believe, unless there's anything you want to read, George.
SPEAKER_08No, just to say thank you to everybody continuously and ever for everything and always that you do. Um show will always be free. We've got that new cadence coming out. We're investigating Fashy B video as well, so we can certainly look to maybe give you four days of content a week, which starting to seem like a very generous deal. Although we're rehashing it twice, aren't we? So, you know. Yeah. Within reason. But you want to see the videos, you want to see the videos.
SPEAKER_01Sorry, Skyrim as variants of it.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, yeah, you're right. The video's like the 4K anniversary edition, isn't it? Or is it or is it the other way around?
SPEAKER_01No, not with this camera. And they do need a 4k camera, I think, to make that work. I don't think we do. Don't you the show's not about that?
SPEAKER_08Okay, we're real men. We're not Logan Paul, it's not about camera, it's not about sound quality, it's about stories and the passion that we bring.
SPEAKER_00God, if we'd had a show, that would be brilliant. When I was a lad, I played. Once I picked up Turt Hovis and played Mario.
SPEAKER_06I was playing I didn't have console, so I used to arrange a couple of pebbles on the floor and yeah, sort of bang them around, pretend it was Mario or whatever the bigger boys or the rich kids had, you know.
SPEAKER_00Those are the flops. Anyway, we're gonna go.
SPEAKER_05Come at me, mate, like, oh, look at you, jump out of a bush, you know, all that scaring a little fella a little bit, and he'd be like pew pew pew, you'd have a twig or something, you know, it'd be like bang, bang, bang.
SPEAKER_00Oh, it's problem is you've now you've now turned into bose selectors Mel B.
SPEAKER_09Oh, have I? Yeah, mate. I was so into that I was gone, I was method.
SPEAKER_01I was just I don't even know who I was, but yeah, you did you did turn into a bit of Bosectors Mel B there.
SPEAKER_08That's a shame. I think I yeah, all right. Anyway, uh show's free anyway, so it'll always be free. Yeah. And to those that do support the show, we're very grateful.
SPEAKER_01So mentally grateful, yes, definitely.
SPEAKER_08We are here to give you a readout of your name, which is one of your perks. RGT on. I don't know how this works anymore because we've got uh you know, we've had some new subs and bits and bobs, so I'm I'm totally out of the loop. But I'm gonna start off because I want to say a big thank you to Captain Scarlet for all the things that he's done behind the scenes for us recently and the great work that he's doing for us. Thank you very much. Uh who's next?
SPEAKER_01Next we have the wonderful retro. Ed, um as always a great character, lovely guy, and um I'll hopefully be meeting you soon in Bristol. So uh look forward to that. Retro Ed, thank you very much for your support.
SPEAKER_03Got it room booked. Awesome.
SPEAKER_08Up next, I get lucky enough to ride in on the one man George fan club, one man George Army actually. He's an absolute beast of a man, and he is very loyal to me. Very much so. He defends my honour at every corner of the Discord, he defends my honour on street corners in his random hometown. He'll sit and fight with someone almost to death. To get them to listen to the show. No, he didn't like the easy route.
SPEAKER_01Oh he sits and fights. He does. Oh wow, it's a new technique. Never seen it.
SPEAKER_08That's I'll tell you what, I'll tell you why you've never seen it. Because there's no one left alive.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_08That's been exposed to it. So thank you. Who is this then on? Thank you, Carlos.
SPEAKER_01Thank you. And I'd just like to say, this is Carlos is uh he has a very created collection of imports and PC engine, all the hybrid stuff. But do you know what I love? Every time on a Tuesday when Flashback goes live, he listens to it straight away, and by Wednesday, he's got some of his games from that month or that year, his imports, his Japanese little curiosity's got, and I just think and he has a little bit of text about it.
SPEAKER_07And I'll he does the research we didn't, it's great.
SPEAKER_01I wasn't gonna put it like that, but yes, thanks, Carlos. Do you want to write some scripts? Um you've been mean to me today.
SPEAKER_09No, I haven't actually. I think I earned that.
SPEAKER_01Okay, t shape. Yep. Um, next up we have the wonderful firm returns. Um, thank you very much. Another guy who's uh big into the Switch and has got very curative collection on Switch, got some great games. The amount of games he suggested to me is just cropped up. I'm thinking what is that? That'd be like indie titles or dungeon crawlers or roguelikes. Yeah, he knows his stuff about the Switch. So yes, thank you, Firm Returns.
SPEAKER_08I've got a surprise for you actually.
SPEAKER_01I'll bet you have.
SPEAKER_08New supporter. Uh just want to say thank you to Jeff over at Silverhook. Got in touch. Uh not only do they do electrical contact cleaner, but they also do a full range of uh Jeff Who?
SPEAKER_07Pardon? Jeff Who? Jeff Hook. Jeff Hook? From Silverhook.
SPEAKER_01Oh wow, so that's how they got the name. Yeah, he's got oh, because he had slightly grey hair, so his nickname was No, mate, no. No, no, no.
SPEAKER_08Before in history, when the brand first started, the family had a double barreled name.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_08The Silver Hooks.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_08So Jeff Hook got in touch from Silverhook. Sure. Cleaners. Keep it in sport, Jeff. It means a lot that the message finally got home, so thank you. Who's next, RGT?
Pace, Preferences, And Modern Backlog
SPEAKER_01Uh next we have the wonderful restaurant in New York. We have Trestles of New York. Thank you very much for your long uh long time support. And you have the best wings in New York, so thank you very much. Who we got next in, George?
SPEAKER_09Uh tactical tactical tactical.
SPEAKER_01Come on, who we got next. Up next. Come on, stop trying to count.
SPEAKER_08No, I'm not trying to count. What I'm trying to tell you is the story I invented the other day for the history of this man. Okay, because what happened was there was a place in the 1300s in the monasteries where they wanted, you know, they wanted the chance to be able to let the canon or the deacon know, or that we're just one of the general monks, they're, you know, you take the Mickey out of them. It's what's called a roast. Okay. But they found that they needed an area, um, a location within the cathedral or the abbey or whatever it is, for this to take place. So they built a space. What would happen is the monks would arrive here and they would roast the space monk.
SPEAKER_03Thank you, Roast Basemonk.
SPEAKER_01Sorry about that, but we do appreciate your support.
SPEAKER_09It worked better in my head while I was driving the car, to be fair.
SPEAKER_01Uh yeah, maybe maybe stop thinking when you're driving your car.
SPEAKER_09Um I'll tell you, some of your vibes today has been absolute killer.
SPEAKER_01It's been brutal. It has been brutal. Next up, we have the wonderful Badabinkster. Thank you again. And I must say, thank you very much for um giving me the box art covers for the hidden gems. Sorry, I couldn't upload them because I couldn't I couldn't edit to put the pictures back on, so I've now got to rewrite them again, but I will add them pictures on, so I haven't yet. But thank you again, Badabinkster, as always.
SPEAKER_08Dante Bella Cosi, Badabinkster. Grazie Mile. That means I get the wonderful, and I have to admit, sexual experience. He's experienced though. Stingle tuner. Tuna! Big tuna.
SPEAKER_01My god, you need more sleep.
SPEAKER_08Um I'm operating about three hours right now, so you better be grateful for this.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really? No, I wouldn't have I wouldn't have known. Um next up, we have one of them goddamn Winchester boys. Digital Mungrey. You've probably already heard me speak about him from doing challenge accepted, and let's get quizzical and bits and pieces he does for the show. So uh let's get quizzical.
SPEAKER_06Let's get quizzical.
SPEAKER_01That's gonna be in my head all night now. Um, but yes, thank you to Digital Mungrey for not only being a supporter, but all what you do as well.
SPEAKER_08So uh face down in the pillar, it's all you're gonna hear. Uh I get next. A gentleman loves a Brazilian, it's bull border.
SPEAKER_01Mm-hmm. And certainly does. Um, yes, thank you, bull border.
SPEAKER_08I want this because you always get both. It's not fair you get both. I'm having nothing. I'm not doing anything that you haven't done. You're trying to do the old switcheroo. I want the Zangeef. So if I'm playing my hands into it, I'm playing my hands into it. Right. So I want to it's the legendary. Backstage operator, infiltrator, bad boy. It doesn't go brown anymore, it just goes techno down, baby. Everything's black, going in. Hot flashbang, boom, throats, done, out, over. Special.
SPEAKER_01That was that was special.
SPEAKER_09Um was it the flashbang bit? Was that a bit too far or next up?
SPEAKER_01We have your no, actually, you should read this. Is your uh, you know, it's special to you. You need to be reading this. Come on. Come on, where you go.
Hidden Gem Reveal: Dungeon Siege PSP
SPEAKER_08I don't want to play because you've been absolutely horrible. It's uh next, the sawnu isn't horrible. Sorny's very loving to me, even though you know one would argue if you're not sleeping with his mother anymore, you probably should just ditch him out of your phone. But I don't do that because this is ging, my red-headed step ex-stepson, who, to be honest, is probably one of the most magnificent men. Now, I found out recently he's been getting white finger. Um, I'm a little concerned for you, boy. I don't want you, I don't want that, I don't want that, I don't want the holding you back uh in any way. So I think you need to get in touch with O'Dadio and we need to sort that out. ASAP. We don't want the old Reynards. Because then Roast Space Monk said he's got the old Reynards. I know I've got the old Reynards, and I don't want to see the boy, even though he's not genetically mine. I don't want to know, I don't want to think that I've passed on to Reynards to him in some way. So we've got to get this white finger sorted immediately. It's stamped out. Me, Roast Space Monk Ging will sort of Reynards support group or whatever. I think Carlos has it as well.
SPEAKER_01You don't realise people believe this drivel that we come out of it. Do you want to check the Discord? People believe this.
SPEAKER_00Do you want to check the Discord?
SPEAKER_01I'm not gonna check the Discord, but I'm just saying the the whole thing that we say here.
SPEAKER_00What about ginge? About everyone. People believe it, do they? Yeah, they do, yes.
SPEAKER_08Okay, that's gonna that's gonna put a bit of uh explanation behind the lack of take of supporters.
SPEAKER_01Next up we have the wonderful Harvey Retro, who I've just come off YouTube watching the video tonight of him putting up his new poster of Event Horizon. He had in the he's got the 4K version, he put the poster up, and he's awesome off us. Go and check him out on YouTube. But yes, that is that does look very good, and I'm glad you put that up, Harvey. But yes, thank you very much.
SPEAKER_08Okay, that leaves me with the wonderful opportunity to thank the beautiful, wonderful, intelligent, probably the finest specimen of womanhood known to man because she listens to the show. Not only that, she supports the show, and she goes worldwide supporting the show as well. When you're doing that, you can be one step behind Emma Sharp. Till then, sit down, pipe down. Emma Sharp, thank you for everything you did. Actually, that is insulting to other people. I didn't mean that. I just wanted to big Emma up a little bit.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, we know what you meant. We know what you meant. Next up, we have Nowhere near Berlin.
SPEAKER_08So big thank you to Greg. You said about Forever Scars the other day, you got me thinking. Yeah, I bet he's a busy boy, isn't he? Isn't he? He's got to be. I'll tell you where he's nowhere near Berlin.
SPEAKER_01Berlin, yes. But anyway, that was mine, so nowhere near Berlin. Thank you, Greg. Who isn't to George? No, no, that was my one, nowhere near Berlin.
SPEAKER_08Yours is I don't like the way this is going. I don't want you to have to make me stamp my foot on air and execute my last remaining piece of executive will. But I will if I have to.
SPEAKER_01It's all part of the plan.
SPEAKER_08You see, if we weren't on video, this would play out much better. But now they want the video, they don't want it to be a radio show anymore. This doesn't probably work out as well.
SPEAKER_01No, but who we got next? Hello, or are you gonna say the next one?
SPEAKER_08Or tell you what, that's the very worst thing you ever want to do is put me in a trap. Because I'll tell you what, I'll do is I'll spring it.
SPEAKER_05Because up next is I'll never get over that.
SPEAKER_01That's gonna haunt me in my dreams. Took the sting out of your tail, didn't it, Panya? Hey, how do you reckon to that? I took the wind out my whistle, I know that.
SPEAKER_08Uh all that dancing up ahead of it, and here he turns, he just literally pulls all his wires out of his laptop as he tries to put his leg down in an authoritative manner. Probably move the camera as well. So if you're watching on the YouTube, you saw that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Amateur hour. Didn't happen on the audio show, did it? Anyway, next up we have got Mumsy. Thank you, Mumsy.
SPEAKER_08Beautiful. So I can enjoy taking the RGT fan club for all it's worth. Yeah, thanks, guys.
SPEAKER_01Wow. So yeah, sorry about that. I wouldn't, you know, if you finish your subscription, I can understand being insulted for all your hard-earned money you've donated to the show.
SPEAKER_07But oh wow!
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so uh just them, just them, just them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so just so I I appreciate you, so thank you very much. I won't mock you. Um, next up we have the second toughest man in the uh I don't think I'll ever recover from this, so good luck with it all. He broke worst. Thank you, Pete, as always.
SPEAKER_08Scott's just had to step up big time, hasn't he? Uh OG will be here, won't he?
SPEAKER_00If you listen, Scott, see you Thursday.
SPEAKER_08You've got an episode of Flashy B to squeeze out of yourself, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh that yeah. I don't know the way you put that, but yeah, I have.
SPEAKER_06Look, where that?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Wait, what you doing, Mandy said? Um, who we got next? He's the perfect candidate for that.
SPEAKER_09Oh wow. Let's talk about indie games on the PS1. Net Eurose Guru.
SPEAKER_08Uh up next is you've done Billy Marmite. Pete Broncklehurst I done. Oh right, so the third strongest man in the uh fourth strongest man in the Discord is Billy Marmite.
SPEAKER_01Thank you to Billy. And you've already zangiefed everywhere, so that's done.
SPEAKER_08Look, I just thought it was getting a bit ridiculous. I just want to be who I am. I don't want to feel curtailed by this this this order that you impose on me, so I end up getting Zangiefed and you don't. You're just Zangifed early. I just thought I'll take away all the power you've got over me by doing it now. Zangiefed early. No, I don't know. It's been phrased up like that. Okay, that's cool. If you like the show or or this, uh the only other show that could ever compare to this, and bizarre, we've we've re-engineered an absolute brip snorter, is uh backlog of shame. So go check that out on YouTube, Spotify, Stitch Your Tune In Deezer, most places that most people wouldn't get podcasts. So just go check it out on Spotify and uh iTunes. Yeah, it makes sense. Or YouTube. Thank you to everyone that supports us. We do muck around. Hopefully, you understand that's part of your tier. Uh, but we are very grateful for your money. And I no way, very, in no way, uh, would ever mock that or or work that down. Um, as it's my final episode ever, then RGT. I probably ought to say, you know, thanks for everything that you've done. Uh, and what are you hoping to play?
SPEAKER_01Um, probably more infamous. Uh must get some few more members in your face. You're absolutely guard. You're like waiting for me to say, no, no problem. I don't want you to go. You're an amazing host.
SPEAKER_08No, no, I didn't expect it for a moment.
SPEAKER_01Um, so anyway, I'll play more infamous um uh FF Rebirth if I can get on it. And I want to play a big stint on there, so I'm really missing that game, it's so good. Um, and probably um if I can get on full void as well. The sort of home improvements are toning down a bit now, so I hopefully we'll have a bit more time to play. So yeah, but yeah, infamous definitely.
SPEAKER_08Um just got the bedroom finished ready for recording, so that's looking spot on.
SPEAKER_01Thank you.
SPEAKER_07Um don't ever change that room.
SPEAKER_01No, that will be changing.
SPEAKER_07Don't you ever change that room.
SPEAKER_01This is ridiculous. Like that, I mean a B and B.
SPEAKER_07Um you ever change that room.
SPEAKER_01Um, but yes, mostly looking forward to infamous because uh something about a 10-12 hour game really appeals to me at the moment. You can jump in, get it done, another one ticked off a list. So and I'm enjoying the game, join the PS3 immensely at the moment. Um still keeping it.
SPEAKER_08You're playing that with the I was I've I've noticed that I've been calling it I think I've been calling it correct on air, but I've been referring it to the Brookman Wingman or whatever. But this retro farters on PS3 putting the USB connector works just the same as it does on PS2. Why are you not using the PS3 pad for this though?
SPEAKER_01Because I prefer the Defender. Wow. It's a better controller. In my eyes.
SPEAKER_08How does it compare to a dual shock?
SPEAKER_01It's more comfortable. Um okay, maybe not so much the triggers. Triggers are they can feel a bit plasticky, the triggers, but I just prefer the layout, I prefer the size of it. Um I think the analogue sticks are better. I prefer the analogue sticks. Um so I tend to stick with it. Um, and also you you don't feel like you're killing a jewel shock. So um yeah.
SPEAKER_08Oh, it's like a sacrificial pig.
PSP Design, Ad Hoc Co‑Op, And Value
SPEAKER_01Yeah, basically. Um I've got a I've got a few of their controllers now, and I really do like them. I think this it's the way to play the older consoles now. Get a more modern controller, and it does, it does, I think it plays better when when you've got those. And also I find jewel shocks very small.
SPEAKER_08They do feel it now, don't they? I just kind of like it really. It's like a PS2 pad in it, basically. What can get it?
SPEAKER_01With my Gannon gauntlets, it's quite hard to hold a little PS2 controller. PS3 controller, sorry.
SPEAKER_08Did you just hold them really close, really, really close to the screen, or no, just they're either side of my head.
SPEAKER_01They're the old they're the gammon gauntlets.
SPEAKER_08So feel sorry for any glove put but you ever tried on as a kid.
SPEAKER_01Oh, ripped in half from ear to ear. Anyway, what are you hoping to play, George?
SPEAKER_08Oh, that's it. Right, okay. Here we are. What am I hoping to play? Listen, I'm probably gonna go crazy on the PS2 all over again. I need to just get no, listen, I just need to get a sense of what's right and what's wrong, and I'm I'm just loving the just your dedication to research is amazing. Well, I also need to scratch into sleep pattern's been destroyed. Well, that's that's that's being all over the place if you driving staying away. It's a bit of a pain in the backside, isn't it? But uh, yeah, hopefully a good night's sleep tonight. But definitely when I go out in a blaze of glory, so um I'm thinking some PS2 or PS3 action. I've got a couple of things on the go. You know, tonight I just want something dumb and stupid, so I might get into that carry on with that Space Marine game, yeah. Uh, and then just see where I am across a myriad of titles, really. I need to push home on Death Stranding 2. Um, there's a couple of other games I kind of need to finish off. Um, and probably a little bit of cast and chill. One thing I do need to reinvestigate is U-Boat, but I'll get my might get my dad round for that. I think he'll appreciate it. That's lovely. That is nice, though. I've got a few other games. Thing is, it's a bit dangerous because he'll see it and he'll obsess over it.
SPEAKER_01You'll see the next day and he'll be in a PlayStation 5 t-shirt.
SPEAKER_08No, he'll just be round the house and not seven in the morning. Like, what sort of time are you thinking of turning on the U-boat game? Like, bloody hell, that uh not be till tonight. What sort of time?
SPEAKER_09I don't know.
SPEAKER_08I might want to play another game. Oh, okay. Let me know if we want to play alright, file play U-boat tonight. And then we'll end up like, I don't know, three o'clock in the morning, still halfway across the English channel. Slow down, slow down, slow down. You're going too quick, Delia. Jesus, don't back it. Told you stealth. I'm asleep on the sofa doing a proper dog watch. Like, what George, it's your turn. Oh, right. Oh, god dad, what's that then? Contact bearing 210. Oh, right, all right.
SPEAKER_01Air purifier, we're going under. George, we're going under.
SPEAKER_08And a bit of paper with loads of calculations, but there's your fire in order. Dad, you just press go.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I'd work with uh velocity and range, uh, wind.
SPEAKER_09Tidal, tidal factor.
SPEAKER_08Yeah, so possibly that I might save that and uh get a few bits squared away and then show him it and see where he uh wants to take that to. But uh yeah, that draws us to an end. Just want to say thank you again to everybody who supports, everyone to who listens, everyone who's finding us now on the video. Apologize again for the quality, but it is a bit of a show uh joke that we're this is as good as it gets. Um but here we are, we're here for the Shulley camaraderie and the uh gaming chit-chat. Um, it's my final show, as I say. A little bit of a bombshell to drop on you there. It's something that I didn't even know was happening. So I just want to say thank you to everybody. Uh for oh, you're rushing me on. Okay. Well, that's all we have time for this week. Listeners, as always, thank you for your time. We look forward to the pleasure of speaking to you again next week. Till then, happy gaming. Remember, there's nothing wrong with being given the forcial control, it's what you do with it that counts. Um I'm I might maybe try and leave a message on the Discord. Thank you, guys. I'll see you soon, RGT. See you later.
