We Break Down The PlayStation Boycott And What It Means For Everyone
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
PlayStation fans are so furious about the move away from physical discs that some are telling people to buy third-party and indie games anywhere but PS5, and it raises a messy question: when you “vote with your wallet,” who actually feels it first? We dig into the disc debacle backlash, why comment sections have turned hostile, and why we think directing rage at small studios is the fastest way to miss the point while still doing real damage.
Before the news spiral, we keep it grounded with what we are playing. RGT is over 60 hours into Xenoblade Chronicles and staring down the final stretch, including the classic JRPG moment where you think you are done, then realize you are underleveled and happily disappear into side missions. George talks about saving Indiana Jones for an upcoming holiday, slowly picking through Final Fantasy VIII, and getting genuinely won over by Super Mario Bros Wonder. We also get nerdy about hardware and nostalgia, because the Switch N64 controller can instantly make Ocarina of Time, GoldenEye, and Jet Force Gemini feel “right” again.
On the Xbox side, we react to a batch of new console features like longer gamertags, improved library artwork, offline personalization, wish list shortcuts, and better cloud play prompts, all landing at a weird time for the industry. That kicks off a bigger, honest conversation about next-gen consoles, rumored PS6 pricing, broadband realities, and whether gaming is drifting toward an expensive, digital-only hobby built for the few instead of the many. If you have thoughts on discs, cloud gaming, or how you want to buy games in 2026 and beyond, share the episode, leave a review, and subscribe so you do not miss what comes next.

Cold Open And Greetings
SPEAKER_04Hello and welcome to the official controller podcast, your weekly gaming podcast, episode number three hundred and twenty-eight. With me, Georgia, this week joined by RGT Flesh Trench to my flesh train. Before we get carried away with what the hell a flesh trench is, and aka therefore, Urgo, a flesh train. Uh it's only right and proper, I tell you, we've got some Xbox news coming up. Oh, don't worry, we've laid off thousands. But you know what? If you want longer gamer tag, it's all yours. It's all yours. And RGT, um, we've got some PlayStation news as well. Um, we're gonna find out that uh we've got fans boycotting games and uh telling people to play it anywhere other than PlayStation, which is a real turn-up for the books. We'll get all into that and all the bits and bobs that go with that in no doubt a very short space of time. RGT, my flesh trench. How are you?
SPEAKER_06Very well, never been described as a flesh trench before.
SPEAKER_04Especially, but I feel like I want to run down you.
SPEAKER_06Wow. That's a start to a gaming podcast. So uh yeah. Yeah, amazing. But other than that, yes, I'm very well, thank you. Pause for thought.
SPEAKER_04I don't know what the end of a flesh trench looks like.
SPEAKER_06I'd imagine it's I'll be more worried about what the end of the show's gonna look like if we started off with a flesh trench.
SPEAKER_04I imagine it's no more than two metres wide. I mean, I I probably hit something that big in my car, you know, like a monk jack, something like that back home on Farmaton. So I can yeah, I don't see it being a problem. Cool. Yeah. So now they've gathered, if they've hung around and let's face it, there's probably two people. Hit subscribe if you're a survivor. If you survive that intro and the desiccation of a monk jack. Uh clickety click click, my good friend. You're welcome here. Um they're not normal creatures, you see them breathe through their nose that like that. No, exterminate. Um RGT, let's
Xenoblade Chronicles Endgame Grind
SPEAKER_04get on to the games. What have you been playing?
SPEAKER_06Probably best. Um just one game. Um, I was hoping I'd get it finished for the show. Haven't quite got it finished. I'm on the end boss. Excuse me. Um, senior blade chronicles, 60, just over 60 hours in. Um, I got to sort of the what I thought was the final fight, wasn't the final fight, um, and then had to go somewhere else, do a final fight, and then realised I was about eight levels underpowered. So I thought I might struggle a bit. So went off for five or six hours and done a few side missions and opened up a few different areas on maps I hadn't quite been to just to get the experience up a bit. Um, but I think I'm only about three levels off now, so I think I can do the fight. So I'm just I'm working my way round this um this prison area to have the the the final the final punch up with the boss. So the big ding dong. The big ding dong. Um so yeah, looking forward to that. I like I said, I thought I'd have it done, didn't quite get it done. But I will say again, what a game. I'd recommend anyone if you JRP. Would you say it again? Yeah, definitely. Um definitely have a go at this game. I think it's fantastic for the system. So really good. What I think you I think you need to play that, George.
SPEAKER_04I I've I've yeah, add it to the list.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, add it to the list. But I think you you I I think this being JRPG and you've played quite a few of the Final Fantasies, and I think this guy used to work originally who went over to well, the director went over to Monolith Soft. I think he was Square Enix originally and done a few worked on a few Final Fantasies, and you can sort of feel that DNA in the game, so I'll definitely give it a go. But absolutely fantastic. Um is at one of them points actually. I was you know, when you get a good game, so I was quite glad I wasn't at the level because I thought, oh yes, I can go off and do a load of side missions, and the game hasn't got our end yet. So, you know, if if you're still in a game after 60 hours um and you're hoping it doesn't end, then they've obviously done something right. So yeah, so yeah, really fantastic. But that is pretty much all I've been playing. A couple of little hidden gem bits, but nothing major, just getting some stuff written up on those. But um, what about you, George?
Saving Games For Vacation Time
SPEAKER_04Um, mainly still been let's start this off. Do you save games? Because I've been loving Indiana Jones and I've got a bit of holiday coming up. Yeah, I'm allowed holiday. Um I have like saved Indiana Jones for my holiday, something to enjoy in many longer spells, a little bit more indulgent. I'm also guilty of saving the game and then forgetting about it, which I don't plan on doing with Indiana Jones. But to you, dear viewer, viewer, viewer, viewer, do you save games and listener and listener, listener, do you save games? And if so, tell me some of the games you've saved for your holiday. Drop it in the comments below. Do all that.
SPEAKER_06I literally did with Xenoblade, I that's why I started Xenoblade because I saved it for my holiday I had three weeks ago, and then just yeah, was playing it hard on holiday and that just carried on afterwards. But I I thought I'd need a nice big game, I can have some spells on on holiday, relaxed, sit outside with the switch. So, yeah, saving games is I do that quite a lot for holidays. There's nothing worse though than saving a game you haven't started, and then you realise that the game's actually not that good.
SPEAKER_04It's not the first time you've took a tablet on holiday to get hard on with, is it?
SPEAKER_06What have you been planning, George?
SPEAKER_04Ha ha it's what you just said, you did
Mario Wonder And N64 Nostalgia
SPEAKER_04say that. Uh other than that, so say other than saving indie, I've been getting myself revved up for some Final Fantasy VIII, so I've worked through a little bit more of that. I've got to the town of Timber. Um, I meant to be waking making my way to the TV station um for some reason or another. Just got off a train walking around the town trying to get my bearings, so still enjoying that, but as always, it's a bit of a chore. And then the other game I've been kind of loosely playing is Bit of Mario Wonder. Always been a bit skeptical about the game, but I picked it up, and you know what? It's actually really great. Um, quite enjoy how the levels change as you go through. Yeah, we've seen all that in the trailers, but you know what? It it's real. Um, there was one where you run across some musical notes and it, you know, it does a tune as you'd run across. There was one where it like bursts into a like a full-on um music thing, reminiscent of like um Astro No Sack Boys adventures on PS4 and 5. There's bits where the levels are set to music, but this was set to like the um chomper flowers sort of singing in the background as you go through the level, and it kind of even paused a little bit if you weren't the music, kind of went into a little bit of a loop, and then you move forward and it carried on. I was like, Yeah, okay, this is slick. Um, and it it it just plays like a good one. You kind of mentioned off air about the graphics looking a little bit sort of mobile phony. I get that, but as soon as you're playing it, it looks, feels, and smells like Mario. He jumps, he's maybe a bit floatier in this than he is in other titles, you know. He kind of hangs around in the air a bit more, and um I've picked up like these sort of modifiers you can get in one of his is his cap, which you can hold R with and kind of float. Um that that's quite enjoyable. I'm still kicking around the um I don't know if I've said this on air, but I've got the N64 Switch to Joy-Con. Um I got a um I renewed my subscription to Nintendo, which does not feel so egregious now, it's money compared to what um the other big two are wanted to channel out of you. And I got an invitation to buy a controller at $39.99, um, which I felt was really fresh, RGT. Uh, getting a deal like that. He's from Nintendo, yeah, which I don't ever remember uh getting an offer like that from the other two, in terms of like you know, here you are anyway. I thought, well, why not at this point? I was um Minarin on Amazon at 70 and was like, no, I can't really justify that, but at 30 it was the right time as well for you because you have you'd been playing like Donkey Kong and that, and you kept saying to me it's it's you know it's good on air, but it just doesn't feel right with the switch controller or the joy-con it doesn't quite feel like it should feel so button map is way off for how you have to play the game because of the controller. Anyway, it came and I said to you, it's got the little rattle of the buttons in it, which is like reminiscent of the original, so it makes that clacky noise as you press it. Joy-con feels maybe uh uh tighter than the original that I remember, but obviously we've all got a little bit sort of warped memories because they're all very loose now or loose. Uh um, but I immediately held it in the right way. I was playing Ocarina of Time, got straightened with the buttons, everything came back to me naturally without even thinking about it. I was in Donkey Kong, hold thing, bam, gun out. All of it felt super slick. Whereas normally I'm playing it on the Switch super clumsy, so it was like super nice to have that. It was super nice to be able to get an offer of buying one from Nintendo themselves at that price. Obviously, anyone can go on there and get that, and I urge you to because it transforms a library. Suddenly in Goldeneye, I wasn't stumbling around tripping over my shoes, I was a I was actually a killer agent again, much like I was in my youth, and it felt quite nice to you know, maybe go into the snipe view a little bit and I'm like, Oh yeah, pick him off, boom, straight back to it. It felt good, it feels good, and it fits the games. So I will report back as I go through the catalogue on there. But I'm looking forward to Jet Force Gemini because that felt barely playable with the Switch 2 controller. Yeah, I was struggling with that. Whereas I know on the actual N64 controller, when I last played it, it didn't feel as convoluted. So I'm excited to work through the games on there. Um so there you go. There's me. There's a full confession of what I've been up to. Uh dirty little rat of a gamer that I am.
News Desk Opens
SPEAKER_04But I would say, RGT, it's time for the news. We've scoured the very darkest regions of the internet to bring you the latest stories. First up, RGT, why don't you take us out the gates, good sir, with what you found in the gaming press this
PlayStation Disc Backlash Spills Over
SPEAKER_04week? What you what you stumbled across here?
SPEAKER_06Oh, this is over on Push Square by, as always, Sammy Barker, who's been a bit quiet this week. Um after all the uh debacle with the game industry that he was the other game industry that he was involved in. Um so yeah, we haven't heard too much from him. So I'm just hoping that you know the law weren't involved in his uh his game meat enterprise that he was doing last week. So fingers crossed, Sammy.
SPEAKER_04Why don't we get start a free Sammy campaign? Like Deadrew Barlow, you know, we can free Sammy Rashid.
SPEAKER_06Imagine if you just started getting hints that there was a something gone viral, saying free Sammy, isn't it? Oh, I'd done. Um what the hell? Why not send the legal game, mate? Amazing. Anyway, yeah. Yeah, so uh Sammy Barker over on Pushquare and he says uh high rate PlayStation fans want you to buy games anywhere but PS5. Disc debacle is really beginning to bite. Um yeah, high rate PlayStation fans are now encouraging their followers to buy great third party and indie games elsewhere, as the fall out from Sony's decision to stop manufacturing physical discs rumbles on. As we reported recently, every time the Japanese giant promotes a game on its social media accounts, attracting an onslaught of anger from frustrated fans. I can't help wonder how the devs feel about all this. Uh with the with the release of Dench Attack this week, I noticed dozens of accounts in my social media feed retweeting Sony's post about the excellent arcade train game, encouraging their followers to buy it elsewhere. Um and he's got the the little uh tweet on there as well, showing it on there, and there's just loads of do not play this on PS5, do not play this on PS5. Um, there is a lot, a lot of people. Um there's buy this game anywhere else than beep PS5, got caught in the crossfire, but that's what happens when you still launch on PlayStation after everything that's happened. I mean, that probably that deal was probably done way before that this all came out, so just calm down, Mr. Glitch. Um the Dreamcast era outing is only available digitally on all platforms, but it seems fans think that if they can deter players from spending on the PS store, um uh sorry, George is putting me off with a giggle.
SPEAKER_02Just Mr. Glitch. Like, yeah, you tell him RGT, he'll listen.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, well what to tell glitch, but I want to be respectful, so I called him Mr. I wanted to say forceful but not rude. So anyway, sorry, the Dreamcast era is uh era outing is only available digitally on all platforms, but it seems fans think if they can deter players from spending on a peer store, this will hit Sony where it hurts and force um them to reconsider its dish decision. Elsewhere, as I reported previously, PlayStation's official YouTube channel has become a hellscape of negative comments extending to unrelated indie games. The maker of T2 uh mentioned on this on Blue Sky explaining how it is excited to launch its game only for YouTube trailers to be downvoted and dominated by a disc debacle. Um, and then there's just another tweet out there oh my god, this game's just launched, and PlayStation posted our launch trailer. 400 comments. What I wonder what people think of our game. Oh oh no. Um fill for them, really, to be honest. It's been two weeks since the manufacturer made this announcement about physical media now, and yet it's to communicate any further information, it's yet to communicate any further information. In my opinion, we've reached a point where only about and only about face will suffice. Sony, for what it's worth, seems intent on posting through this myth, but I have to wonder what kind of conversations it's having with his partners because I wouldn't want my game to be promoted by PlayStation right now. How long can this be allowed to continue? I have to imagine this has reached the point where panicked conversations are occurring behind closed doors. Um yeah, um I I think like most of us, none of us are really happy about them giving up physical media. I think the uh absolute bombing and bringing down small indie games is going too far. I mean, these developers have like I say, have probably had a deal in way before this disc debacle, and uh down voting them is probably a bit harsh. I see what people are doing, but at the end of the day, they're just a small studio, you know. They're just trying to release their game, which more than likely would have been digital anyway, before it was probably not likely to have a physical copy. So I'd getting onto those. I know you're trying to get to PlayStation and make them change your mind, fair enough, but I'm sure there's probably other ways of doing that. What do you think, George?
SPEAKER_04Um interesting scenario over at PlayStation. I know the news has hit badly, right? And you vote with your wallet, but do you need to be on X like jumping down people's throats or just trying to make a bit of make a bit of hay? I don't think so. If you don't want to buy the game, don't buy it. If you've got access to other formats, buy it and play it there. Um, grandstanding it on the internet.
SPEAKER_06And the thing is, they probably wouldn't have commented on that game if this thing hadn't happened, they probably had to just pass the bike.
SPEAKER_04Because it looks super cool.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that's what I mean. But you you're only commenting because you're annoyed PlayStation are giving up discs. It's not the developer's fault that they're coming with no which would have likely been a digital game anyway.
SPEAKER_04But I guess people are wanting to direct their anger somewhere with no press release from PlayStation, other than the fact they're doing it. Um like I say, I you know, boycott the product, cancel your subs, show them that way. Uh, but if someone's on doing just making their business and like, yeah, as RGT said, that deal for a pump on X when the game launches with PlayStation was a tick in the box signed on a contract six months ago. They're just fulfilling their each other's obligations to each other about the release of this game. And you know, in the developers' defence, they've gone and um tried to get it on the platform where most people buy their games. I mean, they're that's just the bare economics of it. Um now I know the bare economics of it mean that we're probably moving to an all-digital future. Yeah, I don't agree with that either, but it's not dense and attack developers' fault, is it? It's not. So let's have a little bit of calm here. I don't think the vast majority of people that listen to the show, as angry as they might be about this, would even think of doing that. Um but you know, if this reaches a wider audience, just just just calm down. Uh well, we're all angry, but there's no need for that. No, social media makes us brave, we can go and say things and do things that we probably wouldn't do in the street. But you know, just paper your wallet. Um Sony won't listen any other way. They're definitely not gonna get intimidated by some comments on X from Mr Gooch, whatever his name he said he was.
SPEAKER_06Um, but also it's you know, you're attacking the the studio's personal own Twitter that had launched just because they said they were coming on PlayStation, everyone's saying don't buy it, you know, and you're like, Well, hold on, then you know, that that word to do with Sony, it's so you just think everyone's getting a bit carried away, I think. You know, I can understand that the anger we've all got a bit annoyed with it, and you know, especially of gamers of our age and collectors and bits and pieces, but you're exactly right. Vote for your wallets, you know. If you're that annoyed with it, cancel your PS Plus. Because if you've got PS Plus and you're against a physical-only future, you've probably been part of the problem. So you've got a vast library of digital games there. So if that's the case, cancel your PS Plus. And and then if you want to buy a game, buy it on another platform if you can. Just don't don't buy the PlayStation products. But yeah, when you when you're attacking people and studios online, I think it's after a while and then starting drifting away from what the actual real problem was.
SPEAKER_04I agree. Next bit of news.
Xbox Updates And Longer Gamer Tags
SPEAKER_04Um let's try and lift the room a little bit because you know Xbox aren't tone deaf. Um because Craig Reed. Now, I'll tell you what he's been doing. He's been out selling uh mobility scooters in uh Scunthorpe. Um I don't know why, but there's a big scene from there apparently. Um Craig's made quite a bundle.
SPEAKER_06Well, I heard that's second to only to Benadorm.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, so he's he's modding them there. They've got under lights, he's he's got the neon glows, he's got spinner hub caps, he's even doing ECU rewrites and battery boosts. Like I was heading into Scunthorpe, just came off the carriageway. Absolute rocket went by me. 82-year-old woman doing over 90 miles an hour in a mobility scooter. And they reckon the youth on the scooters are the problem. I don't see it myself. By the time I caught up and pulled into the supermarket there on the left, they were all there in the McDonald's car park. They had these big boom boxes nailed on the back, revving around, spinning, wheel donuting, and all that. And crazy. Vin Diesel, I spec, right? Mate, Craig was in the middle of them in the lotus end position, levitating about six inches off the floor, almost taking some sort of supernatural power from their presence. It's crazy. I presume it must have been just the flow of electricity through the probably six million megavolts that are running round the back of these old boys' scooters. But yeah, it was a sight to behold. Oh, Craig uh yeah, he looked a little bit kind of touched by the event, I would say. Um I'll be honest with you. It's probably the oddest thing I've ever seen chewing on a Scotch egg. I was chewing on a Scotch egg. Craig was nil by mouth. By look of it. Yeah. So just again, if anyone was had any questions, just hopefully that cleared them up. Anyway, in between his Zen sessions, RGT selling scooters to the uh Naderwell older community of Scunthorpe. He's dragged this up out of the press. Longer gamer tags are now available for everyone, plus 11 other new Xbox features. So I said at the top of the show, we'll get rid of a load of people, get rid of all your favourite studios, boom, you have a longer gamer tag. We're happy.
SPEAKER_06Anyway, sign back up. How many days? I daren't.
SPEAKER_01Just do one for that. It broke the sign. Oh.
SPEAKER_04That's a good start. We've got a whopping 12 new Xbox console features for you to enjoy. Previously, most of these updates are only available to a select member of the Xbox Insider program. They've covered many of these on Pure Xbox already. However, the change has now been rolled out to the public. What we got? Longer gamer tags from 12 to 15 characters. Interesting. What did you make of that, RGT? We've heard from all the players who want to.
SPEAKER_06Three more characters.
SPEAKER_04We've heard from players who want a little bit more flexibility when choosing a gamer tag. And we're bringing back support for you for unique gamer tags up to 15 characters long, expanded from the previous 12. This update applies to gamer tags that are unique and available, giving you more room to create a gamer tag that feels like you. Gamer tags that are not unique or contain non-Latin characters may have a suffix. And we'll continue support up to 12 characters. Nice. Guess what? There's a new way to display your games. You can now display your games with a rich poster style artwork for a more immersive library experience. The toggle your library box art layout based on your preference. Go to my games and apps, then go to manage settings, custom game apps, choose a tile style for your games and apps. Additionally, you can now remove badges from the box art for your games to match your preferences. So enable or disable badges on your games, go to games apps, manage settings, customize game apps, choose icons, yada yada yada. Got new colours for optimization. You can now get uh you can now be able to match specific hex color code for precise colour selection, or use the new match my gamer pick option to pull a colour directly from your gamer pick. Nice. Console update release notes new and improved. After your console updates, you can now get quick access to the latest notes directly from the home top navigation to see exactly what's new and new features. They've also added the ability to find friends easier. When you view another player's profile, you can now see mutual friends on Xbox depending on their privacy settings, helping you feel more confident, connecting. If you're viewing a player that you are not already friends with, you also know how many mutual friends you share, making it simpler to discover new people and build connections. Console customisation even when offline. More personalization options such as dark and light theme, custom backgrounds, setting a solid colour background, a limited selection of dynamic backgrounds, or customizing the colour of your dynamic background, are now available when the console's offline. Add to wish list directly from game cards. Who would have thought that would need to be a thing? You can now add games to your wish list from the game card before they're available for purchase. This means less time searching later and an easier way to track down and keep track of the games you're looking forward to. Xbox Accessories app now shows your controller. The Xbox Accessory app now shows an image of a controller you've got connected, whether using supported standard or special edition Xbox Wilet Controller or an elite wireless controller series two. It's easier to confirm that you've got the right one. Cool. Easier access to home, game and app settings. We've reorganized the personalization settings for home and game apps into separate sections into the settings to make these more convenient to access. We've added entry points to these pages from all context menus in home and my game's apps as well. Prompt to play via cloud when game needs updates. Players will now see the game art or cloud sessions are loading. When your streaming session begins, you'll be taken directly to the game instead of seeing Xbox logo before your game loads. Yeah, that's better. Indicator when Xbox Network is suffering an issue. There's now a visible icon on the dashboard letting you know that there's problems with the Xbox network. Crispy 360 achievement art. 360 achievement art will now be crisp pixel blocks when upscaled. There you go, then RGT. A myriad of updated features bringing the Xbox home page kicking and screaming into 2026. Some of those features feel a little bit like why weren't you doing that?
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04But then some of those features feel like, hmm, actually, that's pretty cool. I like what you're doing. Um it's a bit overshadowed.
Next Gen Pricing And Digital Only Fears
SPEAKER_04Obviously, prior to um the big losses, we had a clock running on the wall of how many days Xbox had gone um in between issues. Um that got up to an all-time high of about 30 days before Asher came in wielding the scythe that saw record losses uh in the industry. Now, that's not just Xbox, you know, under the radar Sony have somebody been killing studios, they've bought like uh humans at a sacrificial altar in an Aztec village somewhere around the 1400s, and they seem to get away with it for some reason. But Xbox, no, of course they won't do. Um so them doing these tweaks RGTs feels a bit damage limitation, but at the same token, they're trying. What do you make of it all?
SPEAKER_06It almost seems like Sony and Xbox are block working together on things because it's like you get one really bad bit of news, and then they'll be like, Oh, we we need to do something. So you get like something that's awful, like the going completely digital, and then the next company will come out and say, Oh, but you can display your games in a different way on the home screen now. That's like they take a massive chunk and give you a little bit back, it's just like a little bit of damage limitation, and yes, this has been probably lost in the weeds a bit with all what's going on at PlayStation. I mean, some good features and that, some nice little things. I don't know why they're doing this now. This would have been sort of a first-year update of the system, I would imagine, that they tweak things. I don't know why they're tweaking this now when they've sort of been talking about Helix and that quite a lot, or whether they're just preparing this for us final sort of update and that's where that'll be. But I I don't know, it seems an odd time to you know lay off three and a half thousand devs, but you can change your colours and that on your homepage now. Oh, it's alright, and I thank God for that.
SPEAKER_04Um, so I think it's uh it's alright, and we we knew they were working on this, and she probably started work on these soft winds as we sort of speculated some time ago. This is them coming home for the wider Xbox community rather than the special insiders, you know, great. Unfortunately, between getting there and going for the soft winds, um she's run the numbers on the place and realised she's had to clean house. And I'll be honest with you, Asher, it's been brutal, but I think that probably shows us all exactly where you are at.
SPEAKER_06Um I mean also it's sorry, carry on, I interrupted you.
SPEAKER_04I was just gonna say, just they are now kind of they're committed to consoles, but a very much reduced user base, so then they've got to go through the process of converting people again and/or making them double dip on the console. That's tough when we're looking at 1500 quid allegedly for a base machine.
SPEAKER_06So did you see what their aim numbers are for the helix? No. Two million, which I think probably says whereabouts we are in the console and game and space, and also where Xbox are that their their number they're aiming at for the Helix is two million, which makes me wonder if do we get all the Series X and S tarted up now because most of our users are still gonna be on this. So I don't know, but yeah, that shocked me because they've sort of come to realisation that yeah, the because people keep saying they're not gonna do another console. They said, no, no, we're still doing we're still doing the helix, but we our figures are gonna be about two million with the price, how it's gonna be with the RAM chip increase and everything, blah blah blah. That's where we're aiming at. And uh from a company that was wanting only a few years ago a hundred million Game Pass subscribers to try and keep that profitable. They're now down to 25-30 million Games Pass subscribers, and their next console are aiming at two million sales. Um and for them to admit it as well, I think it's good because it's telling us the crash is happening. Um Sony have already said what their prices are roughly gonna be on the six. Is the six gonna sell as many as the five? No, nowhere near. That's almost like both companies are preparing for you know the downfall. But maybe I sound very negative, I don't know. But let us know down below. See let us know your thoughts in the comments and bits and pieces. But I find that worrying as gamers at the moment as to where we're heading.
SPEAKER_04I feel like we might arrive at the end of this gen with an option. Those that can with cloud can get PS6 equivalent without needing to get a new machine. Therefore, uh go the increasing internet over the next 12 to 24 months, they're running the gambit of what they can get away with. This digital only solution may be that. Maybe it will be that PS6 is for the hardcore, this is what you're gonna get. Um, there's various tiers, one does come with a screen, but that'll be 3k. So your ultimate collector are gonna go get the PS6 physical. Everybody else is probably just running a pro with a cloud streaming thing. And do you need a pro? Well, yeah, for your backwards compatibility, your PS5 and PS4 games. I mean, it could be that simple. Maybe we don't need a new console. Maybe they just dress these up as PlayStation now. We don't get a PS6, maybe we just get access to an app. Xbox, they're already there, they're only gonna sell two million Helix, but I don't see that as an admission of defeat. I see that as a and we'll probably get a load of these games gone and Games Pass sold on TVs, fridges, and Xbox Series S's. You know, they're kind of built for that. They've kind of prepared the ground in a way while we scoffed. You know, Xbox has kind of always been one gen ahead too much. You know, they get to this section, push that thing. So it's too soon. It's too soon. Sort of saying last week too soon.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, it's always a case of going with the market or trying to force the market. And we've seen this time and time again, you could keep trying to force a market, it doesn't normally end very pretty because gamers know what they want and they know what they want to play, and you can make things successful for a while, but then people cut on on and go, hold on a minute. Why are we doing this again? And yeah, it's I find it a difficult one. I was actually listening to a show the other day, and there was a guy on there who worked for Sony, um and he said um they'd ran numbers and said that 17% of the Sony user base doesn't have uh broadband internet, which is a hell of a worry for the six, but they've crunched the numbers and they've called them um collateral damage. They're not making the console for the 17% and it hasn't got the internet. So um how harsh that sounds, that's you know if if you can't play it, you can't play it, it's as simple as that. That's I mean I would imagine the the the games companies have always been like this, hardware producers, but but they never sort of have been as upfront as it as they are now.
SPEAKER_04Um I think we were lucky enough for you know initially Sega and Nintendo were Nintendo were re-entering the market and needing to get their console in under the radar, that's why they designed it to look like a VCR player in the States to make it feel like it wasn't a video games console. They chose the box art for a specific reason and the way they did it. Um they were coming by a stealth and needing to establish to build. Then we got lucky again. I mean, there were a few companies around at that time like having a go, but the big war that we remember is between Sega and Nintendo, then Sega kind of push into the market more. They were already there, but then they push in a bit more, and they're an upstart there, so then they're coming in needing to keep the price low. Nintendo and Sega locked in a price war right up until the thick end of when Sony enters the market, and we know that famous E3 where obviously a big company like Sega has got that fat, dumb, and happy on the thing that they feel like they can say X price. Sony come out and undercut them by £100. Why did they do that? Because they're with the upstart company coming up. They needed to disrupt and mess around the big dogs to upset them. So they are they signed the money off to themselves and sold the consoles at a loss. They made it back on the games. What's happened is we've seen lots of established figures get to a point where no one's really an upstart anymore. Nintendo are off doing their own thing, they can charge what they like because it's Nintendo, but normally they're quite price-sensitive and budget friendly because primarily it's seen as a kid's toy. Therefore, there's a certain threshold that a grown-up's going to go, that's too much for Johnny for Christmas. The other two, they've gone for it. I mean, they've really gone for it this gen. Yeah, there's market demands that mean they need to charge more, but it's almost like we are not absorbing any of this. And I see this across all businesses. The cost increases, add it on the price for the customer. Wow. Yeah, at what point is there a stop anymore? You know, they've Sony have publicly said we've made more money than ever and we won't be subsidising the PS6. Like, hang on a minute, guys. Do you know how toxic that sounds?
SPEAKER_06Yeah. For your hundred million users, by the way.
SPEAKER_04Now, what's happened is the company's been overempowered by large communities during COVID, getting very much into gaming, and I think it skewed a lot of them to thinking that they'd become like the fourth emergency service. They're not that okay. We can live without them. We like to game. There's a myriad of other things that we do, watch TV, maybe even look at our loved ones. How outrageous for a gaming podcast. Oh no, I'm that's my field. I'm kicking ideas around, don't believe any of it. So, yeah, it's become an established marketplace. Sony have definitely established themselves in their mind as the big, you know, cheese in the industry. Uh, there's no denying they've had a massive impact. And I think they maybe think that they've kind of earned that almost kind of bigger boys Nintendo kind of moniker they've woven into the fabric of society.
SPEAKER_06Don't quote me, they did say something along the lines of they were almost arrogant enough to assume that they'll buy it. They've followed us and bought so much of our stuff, we will make it, they will buy it. And you're like, I'm not sure if you quite understand that the I don't think they will buy it, to be honest. And like you said, when you were talking about Nintendo in the early days, if you notice from each of them stories, you said the company was making what they thought the gamer wanted. We are now being made something and being told this is what you're having. That's where it starts to get a bit disjointed because that's not what we want. You're not listening to anyone. Just do people want uh these all digital PCs under the TV? You know, steam steam machines now trying it, or valve with a steam machine is now trying it. Do people want this? You know, I just find it unbelievable. I just I just don't know why they try and force things on onto the consumer thinking that we'll just go, yeah, okay, we'll have it. Will we, you know, maybe we will. Maybe that'll end up being a master stroke and everyone will buy it, but I can't see it myself. I really can't.
SPEAKER_04It's one step beyond, I think, for the current market and how people currently play. Or or maybe the vocal. I mean, they did say that since COVID the enthusiast has been keeping them alive. Um well, if the enthusiast is keeping you alive and paying all your bills, you probably ought to try and keep them happy in some way. And if that means chucking a £10 Blu-ray drive on the arse end of your console, just do it.
SPEAKER_06I mean, they've even been shutting the disc factories. I know, I know, you know, and they've been making what optical drives for AI or something they've been making, or something to do with AI, and you're just like, they're all in, they're all in. Whether they're gonna sort of subset Sony as making AI parts now, and that's where they're gonna, you know, gain money while just doing this more sort of elite console. I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I mean, fair play that they've tried to continue, offer continuous employment for the people at the disc factory. I think that's a real decent move. That's solid, that looks decent in the modern marketplace. Well, that's in the world of job cuts and whatnot, that would be an easy one to make, and it would be blatantly obvious as well. Like, we're not doing that anymore, so you sorry guys, things move on, you know. 30 years ago, there was no factory here. Ten years from now, there'll be no factory here, but you know, we had a good time while it lasted. But now they're saying, oh no, make some AI parts. I mean, it's half decent, but as you say, it's a very clear marker of a company that's decided this is not happening, and people talk of a Uter needing to take place. How can it take place? How can it take place now?
SPEAKER_06Exactly, and also as well, you know, with Xbox, they've had this decline over the last five, six years where you could see under Phil Spencer and all the big acquisitions, and you could see it going wrong with Sony literally weeks ago announcing PS5 has made them more money than any generation put together, 100 million users, PS Plus is more successful than it's ever been, and then suddenly with the next breath, we're stopping we're only going all digital in 2028, it's just literally a change overnight.
SPEAKER_04Do you think if we'd felt like we'd had more first party games and they'd been more engaged at uh the PS4 era, if they'd said this, we'd have like users would have been a little bit more, or we would have said, Oh, that's actually alright, fair enough.
SPEAKER_06I think if we'd had more first party games, I don't think we'd have probably announced this. I think they've announced this because they spent so many hundreds of millions on live service and making the wrong decisions, PSV, R2, etc. They're now thinking, right, well, how are we gonna how are we gonna make money in the future? Well, let's charge full price. Anyone who wants a game's got to buy it brand new from digital, no secondhand sales, let's try and coin it in. I think I think at a time I've said to you before, I think because of the demise of Xbox is why they're doing this as well. I think they've got the stage there's no competition. We can just say what we want. You either get on board of us or you don't play. Simple as that. I think it's narrow-minded because I think more than ever, with the current situation in the world with finances and job cuts and the pressures on business, this is probably a time when someone wants a company that they've been loyal to through generations to actually turn around and say, We've got your back, don't panic. You know, you can still buy your disc games, we'll still put a disk drive in, but you know, they just seem another one that's gone down that corporate route and said, Nope, we'll make money this way. We'd rather sell less of a product but charge you double the price. You know, and that's quite anti consumerism because that's not a product everyone's going to be able to get, and it's not a product anyone really wants. So we will see. That's gonna be next gen. I I can see next gen being very unproductive, very much a mess for Xbox and PlayStation, and I think Nintendo. We're gonna clean up. I really do. I think Nintendo for the Switch 2 are gonna be. I think they're probably selling gangbusters right now, I would imagine.
SPEAKER_04Oh yeah, they are. They are. Um that was the kind of third bit of news I dropped. It was just some sales metrics in Japan. I tell you what, they're absolutely crushing it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, that I mean, literally, I don't know if that was after the news they'd said, but PlayStation had gone from like a uh like a million being sold in one era of time for PS5 to literally like 200,000 and the switch had gone up loads, and you just thought, yeah, if that metric is not worrying you now, and also don't you think I know we're talking about Xbox here, that's fine, we're just talking about the general thing, but don't you think they're just better off and just coming out and explaining more rather than just saying we're doing this, end of, and then what else they've done with it is well, we're not subsidizing consoles anymore, you're paying for that, end of. And you're like, it just seems very unapproachable from them. Do you know what I mean? You maybe a bit more explanation or a bit of a reason why you're going all digital, or just to just cut it any sakes. There's nothing within the explanation they could give you that would satisfy you. I know, but it just seems very odd. I know I said this before on last week's show. It seems very odd to release a three-line statement for something that that is that bigger news that deserved a couple of paragraphs of since our history we've been producing you know, games, blah blah blah. Just give something to someone to read rather than just saying, Oh, we're not making them anymore. Goodbye. And you just think it seems very blunt and abrupt and to a very large audience. Maybe it's just me. I just thought that seemed very shallow.
SPEAKER_04I'm trying to think of like when mediums change, you know. Did they rock put up an apology when they moved from CD to DVD? We all applauded it. When they moved from DV to DVD to Blu-ray, we all stood up and applauded it.
SPEAKER_06Because you still had a physical item.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, but they weren't going to produce a DVD for your PlayStation 2 anymore.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, true.
SPEAKER_04But we're moving mediums, we're leaving one behind, stone dead. They'll never make that again. In some ways, you could argue this is them now saying, okay, Blu-ray's dead, just barely holds the game anyway, so kind of what's the point apart from giving someone something they can put on their shelf. Trust us now, we're going to all digital. There is no other solution.
SPEAKER_06We had a bit of backwards compatibility as well. They tried to ease us over to the next one. This is literally, there's no disk drive now, you can't play them. You're not well, hang on a minute. We've invested with each individual has spent thousands in your ecosystem, and you're turning around to say no, you can't use them anymore. Well, hold on. You know, it just I don't know.
SPEAKER_04I don't say you can't use those anymore. It's not as though when you go buy the PS6 and you rock up on a moped with a gun, kick your door down, snatch your PS5, jump in it, sort of cackling like a witch as they drive over the hills to their freedom and the graveyard of PS5s.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but what I mean is, you know, if you want this new big shiny thing, you're gonna have to buy some more games on all digital. You you know, we don't we don't make them anymore. You need you need to buy the digital versions. Will they, like we said before, would they let you download those for free because you've already purchased them? Would they hell? Because they don't know if you've given Johnny five pounds down the road for the game or you've paid 60 bucks for it. So no, they won't. You you'll maybe they say, Oh, if you had the game before, um, you can have two bucks off. I would imagine. But I know we were going on about it.
SPEAKER_04Well, Xbox have already set the scene with this, haven't they? Because they're allowing people to download. Um, I think they've got this project going on where you can scan in the code somehow through a phone app and it'll let you, it'll give you give you a digital license. And I think there's some sort of at the minute when you put the disc in, there's a sort of handshake between the console and the disk. You download the digital version of it, that's then locked to you. If then you sell that disc and that console, a console recognises that disc as being in someone else's machine, your copy gets wiped. That seems fair, but it needs a disk drive to allow it. So if they're going to say we're going to let you digitize your physical library of PS4 and PS5 games, games need to be supported, by the way. It's not just a magic give me. If the download isn't there, it ain't happening. So if you pull out a rare ass copy of some limited run game, this is me speculating, and you put it in and it's no longer on the store. I'd imagine it's a nice try, Matey, but no thank you. But I'm thinking the vast majority of your games, dum, dum, dum, dum chucking them in like two Ps at the seaside, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, put them all on, fills in your digital library, job done, put them away, or just have them as something on the shelf to look at, which is what they are anyway.
SPEAKER_06Well, let's hope they do something like that so that to make at least some sort of good news of the PS6, but it would have to happen this gen, and it would have to happen soon to give people a window of time to do it.
SPEAKER_04Because if PS6 comes along and you're someone who lives hand to mouth like we did as youngsters, or I did, you trade your current console and all your library for the next thing.
SPEAKER_06That's a good point.
SPEAKER_04So, yeah, but then at that point you can't trade your library, you can only trade your console. But by the time we get there, right, if a PS6 is meant to be 1500 quid. By the time we get there, a PS5 Pro retail will be about 1500 quid with the price rises on the chips forecast as they are. So will a PS6 still be 1500 quid or no?
SPEAKER_06That's a very good point, or will it be two? You only need a couple more price hikes on that pro before you're very close to a PS6 top price, which is going to be between 12 and 1500. I mean, what's a pro now? Eight, nine hundred, eight hundred.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, the only console era where prices have gone up, yeah. Like my launch PS5, it's probably worth more now than it was when I bought it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah. I mean, my Series X, I could I got a hell of a deal on that brand new. I could probably trade it in for more what I paid for it. You know, it's it's just ridiculous. And you you just think, what's happened? We've done a complete reversal here. You've gone from the highest gross in entertainment on this planet to in one gen turn it to just an exclusive, expensive hobby just for people that can afford it. And you're like, how's this happened? What's happened? I don't know.
SPEAKER_04It's hundreds of millions of users. Let's wipe this away. Let's forget this happened. Let's in fact mop up the tears, do some housekeeping, RGT.
Housekeeping And Where To Find Us
SPEAKER_04Tell everyone everything about where they can get us. Hank, before they do, yes, if you've got this far and you haven't hit subscribe, what the hell's wrong with you? Subscribe. Do it now. I love you. Come join the family. RGT. They've joined us. It's time for some housekeeping, friend. What's going on?
SPEAKER_06Well, if you're enjoying the show, which uh after our little ramblings there about next generation, I hope you are enjoying the show. I did get a little bit uh deep and dark there. But um, yes, you can check us out on anything from Instagram to Twitter to X. Um, you can jump jump on our Discord. We have lots of things going on. From we're even just discussing before the show, Carlos won a prize, had a Mario themed 3D printed article on his shelf, looks very good. Um, different prizes each time and challenge accepted through to Gen 7 playthroughs, due to just game and chat. Like George always says, Don't be a lonely gamer, come and jump on, play through games together with people. It's a great place to be. You can jump on our uh website, which is unofficial controllerpodcast.com, where we now started building up reviews. We've got three reviews on at the moment, two by Captain, there's one by Digital Monkery. I'm writing one at the moment as well. So as they build up, there's plenty of reviews to see.
SPEAKER_04Sprawled out on your lawn with a quill. Yep. Stripped to the waist, wearing just like a loincloth.
SPEAKER_06Yep, and do you know what I have? I have a Sony Walkman cassette playing the best anthems from Final Fantasy playing in my ears to give me influence and inspiration.
SPEAKER_04I think you'll find that the new you is burning all his Sony gear. So maybe it's a Sanyo.
SPEAKER_06That's a good point, yeah. Sanyo man walk. Yeah. I did say walk. Yes, so check out the uh uh check out the uh website. Um loads of pages in there, different bits and pieces. You can even see our ugly mushes on there as well.
SPEAKER_04God knows why. Uh how this YouTube thing's a success. I'm sat in a red t-shirt looking ill.
SPEAKER_06But the state of me.
SPEAKER_04As for the audio listener, you are missing nothing, pal.
SPEAKER_06Yeah.
SPEAKER_04Keep audio, you're getting the premium experience. To you, I'm in a tuxedo right now, laid back on the chaise lounge. If you come and look at the YouTube downgrade, huge downgrade. Face looks like a butcher's block that's been chucked out six years ago, and the local dog has been using it as a toilet. Um it's that bad. But the audio listener, no. I look like Adam Prince of Eternia.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, exactly. You know, so we've got faces for radio, put it that way. Um, also, you can message us if you want at questions at unofficial control podcast.com. So, you know, what do you think about Xbox and their new little custom bits they've done on there? What do you think about Sony going on? Oh, I don't know. Well, let's answer.
SPEAKER_04Oh, right, it's questions, right? Yeah, of course.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, no, not you. You've already said your piece on it. Um, yeah, so yeah. Contact us, you know, from anything from wanting a link to Discord to if you want to become a sub member or anything like that, just let us know.
Supporter Shoutouts And Running Jokes
SPEAKER_04And talking to subs, I suppose we better jump onto the Donabot Clava, because these people support us every month from as little as three dollars. Yeah, three dollars is not even real, it's monopoly money, it's like two pounds ten. Um, other currencies may apply. Don't hate it, me on the currency exchange, so it's not.
SPEAKER_06And also, I thought as well, when we first started doing the subs, with the rate of inflation, three dollars that was when we started, is probably about 50 cents now.
unknownSee?
SPEAKER_06So that's that's probably the deal of the century.
SPEAKER_04It's the best deal, and the Georgie deal still applies. If you join now, you get a t-shirt no matter what tier. I think that means on some tiers you get two t-shirts, right, RGT?
SPEAKER_06Yes, it makes it very complicated for me when I'm printing merch to give them people two t-shirts because the yearly one and one because they've just joined. So yeah. Thanks. Let's tear into the subs list. I think you need to start this week because I started last week.
SPEAKER_04Oh see the legality of the geef who decided to put the pressure on me. Fine.
SPEAKER_06Alright. Well, first of all. The legality of the gif. We even had a picture of some um people have done this. Right. Oh yeah, at the start, yeah, yeah, yeah. I just haven't, but I know to say it. This is how it makes it happen though. Yeah, well then you just need to be aware of our subs list. You should know how to pronounce their names.
SPEAKER_04Gascon, thank you, sir. I hope you're doing well. Uh Shanecomb was on neighbours. Yeah.
SPEAKER_06No way.
SPEAKER_04He married Scott Robinson's dog.
SPEAKER_06What what was the dog called? Bubbles? No. Squitter.
SPEAKER_03Who's next?
SPEAKER_06You realise we're getting clipped for all this. We did last week. If you've seen our stories on Instagram from Captain. I made one funny noise and it appears about eight times in the reel.
SPEAKER_04What was it?
SPEAKER_06I honestly don't know, and I the really strange thing is I don't recall making.
SPEAKER_04How did it go? I don't quite know what was it a word that had been clipped.
SPEAKER_06I am not being drawn back into it because it will be clipped again. Was it, do you think, a word that was clipped, or do you think it was just a moment of you going, um no, I don't think I think you said let's get ready for the news, and I try to do an excited little warble that sort of turned into me sounding a bit like sloth.
SPEAKER_04A bit like.
SPEAKER_06Okay, very much like slough.
SPEAKER_04Oh, okay. I was gonna say nothing like, but yeah, we'll go down that.
SPEAKER_06In in my head, I went, Oh. But what actually came out onto the video was not that. So where can people see that? What TikTok? Uh Instagram, TikTok, yeah, on our TikTok rule Instagram page.
SPEAKER_04Fantastic.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, my mum already has, so she did ask me if I was okay, but so hmm. Anyway, next up we have the aforementioned Captain Scarlet. Um that's not his name. You've got his name wrong. No, if you'd let me finish, it's Captain Scarlet.
SPEAKER_04AKA Captain Skynet. He's not otherwise known as Captain Scarlet anymore. No one calls him it.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, but he hasn't officially changed his name to Captain Skynet yet. If you go on D oh, you don't go on Discord. If you go on a Discord, you see his name's still Captain Scarlet, so I have to go by that. He has a big reveal. He's done a he's done a video clip, so we have seen. I think we're preparing for a big one now, so that's an air.
SPEAKER_04Gonna need a lot of gas and air to get that out. But thank you, Captain. Thank you, Captain Skynet. All for what you do. A man that does not need gas and air because he brings joy and fun of the fair wherever he goes. It's retro ed. He dropped the retroid thing. Um, it's not working for him downstairs. So he's all in just as retro ed now. So respect his choices.
SPEAKER_06Thank you, Retro Ed. Next up, we have I believe the current champion of Challenge accepted. Of course he is. Proudly showing his trophy off, which is a one-of-a-kind trophy and is absolutely fantastic and done by Digital Monker. But if you want to know what his trophy looks like, join the Discord and you will see. Because he is the triple champion. That's the one-man George fan club. It's the gorgeous, beautiful, the guy I could talk to all day about rare Japanese shooters. That's Carlos. Thank you, Carlos.
SPEAKER_04Um the other day I found two P down the back of the sofa stuck to an old lozenge.
SPEAKER_06A lozenge? What sort of lozenge? Locket?
SPEAKER_04It was sucked. And therefore it's um it was hard to place. I didn't know whether it was a car travel suite in a tin covered in that fine white sugar dust. They're the best. But it'd been sucked. So I couldn't tell whether it was a medicated suite, be a tune, or uh Did you try it? No, I was more focused on the monetary value.
SPEAKER_06I was gonna say I thought you might have just de-fluffed and had a little suck.
SPEAKER_04Um, this has took a story and made it awfully long, just as we've clarified the lozenge and whether I would suck or fluff the lozenge, which seems to have triggered RGT. I think he's laughing because fluff is a yeah is a term used on a pornographic video set, um, where where a fluffer might more stimulate one of the male performers ready for action. I think that's as clean as I can leave it. So no, I didn't fluff the lozenge, nor did I suck it. Oh GT, let that be a lesson to you, good friend. You don't suck strange lozenges, it could have been anything. Anyway, where else going with this? Until you dispublicly deflogged me. Um, I was gonna say I took that two P and I thought I could do with a wee bit more bang for me book here. So I discarded the lozenge, kept the two P, and I went on X. Now, why did I think to go on there? How can I take two P and do something with that? Well, I stumbled across firm returns. He will take me from two penny lozenge sucker to Trump in an afternoon. Invest in pig bellies, go sell high shrimp off the east coast of uh Scotland. Make it happen, Georgie boy. You'll be a millionaire by sundown, and I was. Hence why I'm sat here doing the show. Thank you, firm returns.
SPEAKER_06Thank you, firm returns. Sorry about my childish outburst. I did lose it a bit there. It's been a long day, and that that that triggered me a bit. I'm very sorry. Um we handled it well. Oh, I didn't. You did, you done very well. I did not. That's that's definitely getting clipped. So's that.
SPEAKER_03I just thought I'd be dirty as you as you fell. I thought, yeah, I'll clip his legs.
SPEAKER_04Um I'll let his mum and dad know what a fluffer is.
SPEAKER_06Hi, mum, my dad. Um hi mum and dad. Yeah, dad, don't ask mum.
SPEAKER_04Um she already knows. If she wants clarifying, if she wants some clarification from me, a man she can trust. Uh I'll also educate her on what swinging is.
SPEAKER_06Anyway, next up, um, I was gonna say trestles in New York, they're not called trestles anymore, are they? No, no, no, no. Are they corners? Are they corners?
SPEAKER_04Corner house.
SPEAKER_06Corner House, New York, no. So even after your transformation and name change, you are still back in the UCP. Thank you very much indeed.
SPEAKER_04Yeah. Well, it transpires Bobby did a deal where it they actually unearthed the fact that that was originally tribal land. So Bobby did a bit of dealing with the local CU tribe, he bought the land back off of them, and then he leased it back to Corner House on a deal where we will be supported by whatever person takes over looking over the deeds of that property from now until the end of the earth.
SPEAKER_06Wow, that's an amazing story. That that's incredible. So, yes, thank you. They're the sort of deals Bobby's cutting for us in the States. Unbelievable. So we appreciate that, and thank you.
SPEAKER_04Look yourself in the mirror, ask yourself what have I done for the show today.
SPEAKER_06I ask myself that every day. And as you always reply to me, it's not enough.
SPEAKER_04To be fair, I look in the mirror, ask myself that question, and give myself that answer. So it is what it is.
SPEAKER_06Fair point. Yes, so um, yes, thank you very much for your long-term support.
SPEAKER_04If you've done corner house good and proper, it means I get to have a slice of the finest roast anyone could ever possibly imagine. Mumsy's brought it in, she's pulled the lid off, and she said, Do you want to be this space monk? I've roasted it. Look at it. And I sniff at it and I'm like, Wow, it's even got crackling, Mumsy. I love it. Do me a plate of this, some veg, a side of Agus, and a little bit of uh hazellet, if you won't mind. Um so thank you to Roast Space Monk. Today you reminded me of a meat product. It's not personal, it's just the way it happened. I hope you're well, and I hope the blue spine collecting, the real blue spine connoisseur collecting is going well.
SPEAKER_06Yes, we need an update. Um, thank you, Roast Space Monk. Next, we have the wonderful Badabinkster, so I should presume I have to say ciao. Bene. Is that correct? That'll do. Just say what you feel. I tried. I have tried Badabinkster. I might have lessons so I can communicate a bit better to you and feel a bit a bit more classy.
SPEAKER_04A bit of a trend.
SPEAKER_06Hi good Badabinkster. It's he knows what I mean. You know, it's a sort of how are you? Are you good, Badabinkster? You know, then there we go.
SPEAKER_04Beautiful then. I get then to thank Tingle Tuner. Now, you look around the towns of this world and you see connoisseurs, you see record collectors, you see guys coming out of busted duck bookstores. Duck stores, actually, coming out of dusty book duck stuff busty duck stores.
SPEAKER_06You go, you go very careful there, young man. There's a lot of dusties and a lot of ducks coming there.
SPEAKER_04Breaks hold. A slip of the tongue literally gets you a busty duck. And one thing, that's what Tingle Tuna collects, busty ducks. He's got a whole range of them. Um he's got a couple of copies of play duck. Uh, and he just likes to kind of show off his prowess of duck collecting.
SPEAKER_06You actually started painting him as this JRPG connoisseur. You've ended up now saying that he has books from play duck.
SPEAKER_04Yeah, and he collects busty ducks.
SPEAKER_06Wow. Thank you, uh Tingle Chuck. Don't blame me, blame the teeth. Okay. Them teeth have got a lot to answer for, especially in this episode.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_06Um next up we have the challenge accepted Maestro himself.
SPEAKER_04Did you do this one? Because I feel like interconnected.
SPEAKER_06You're doing your switcheroo again.
SPEAKER_04No, what I'm not. I'm not. I'll just go straight after I'll do ball border and then we're even, aren't we? We're square. I just want to do, I just want to do, I just want to viciously do digital monkey.
SPEAKER_06Okay, well, if you want to viciously do digital monkey then, and then you're then gonna have to go straight onto the fresh trench.
SPEAKER_04I'll happily drive my train down there. And I want to thank Digital Munkries because when I saw Carlos's sign, I realized it hadn't been 3D printed. I knew there was another way this had happened. And what Digital Munkery has got, if you opened up a shirt, you would see he has like a spider, a little human spider stitched into him, and he literally, he just literally wove it, he kind of sort of held a little thing underneath of him, and he kind of just sort of hewn it out of his own viscous web. Wow. Um, which means I get to, as you say, um fly in full throttle. That ought to get those fighters off my back as I plunge myself deep into the flesh trench of bullboard.
SPEAKER_05That's terrible. You can't say that.
SPEAKER_04If you're flying an X-Wing Starfighter and you see a flesh trench, you're gonna plunge down into it, aren't you? You're probably gonna rotate and then pull up hard, bam, before you get to the end of the canyon. You don't want to slam up the back of the cervix, do you? Or whatever they call that thing at the end with the X on it.
SPEAKER_06Right. This has killed me. Sorry about this show. Next up, we have the man who's got a tent box. The man, according to George from last week, like the park and swinging. He's the jungle VIP, he certainly is. Um and it is our discourse discourse, Discord, yeah, Discord sheriff himself. It is Boba. Thank you, Boba, and Bolloway. Very impressive wall of beer. If you know, you know, but very impressive wall of beer.
SPEAKER_04What ready for him just to unhinge on a session? Or are these are these the fallen victims of his dreams problems?
SPEAKER_06I think that this is one of them things in a thousand years' time they'll unearth and that'll be like the eighth wonder of the world, and they'll just see this beautiful artwork of the wall of beer. Incredible. Does he rinse them out? I would imagine so, yeah.
SPEAKER_04Or do you reckon he just sucks them dry that completely that there's just not a vestige of liquid left in it?
SPEAKER_06Maybe. I mean don't know if he's got that much suckage power, but I mean that's you've seen the blow. Well, yeah, I know, but that's you need some absolute suckage to drain out a can completely dry mate.
SPEAKER_01Boba Loba can suck a medicine ball through a garden nose. Thanks, Boba. I've seen him do it. Have you really?
SPEAKER_03Yeah. No. Yeah, yeah, I have.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, yeah, because you have farm and village fight.
SPEAKER_04Well, if you thank Boba, that means I get to open up my arms to the strongest arms I've ever seen on a man. It's my red-headed stepson, who I still love like my own, even though me and his mother haven't seen each other for 30 years. Um, I bounce him on my knee. And I love him and hold him like he's mine, and he makes me so proud. He's a platinum hero. Not only that, is he walks around work and no one dare say h to him. He runs that gaff. Those bitches, they bow to him, they listen to what he says. They put that curb there, you snot living, snot breathing freak. Redo it like this. He just tells them they do it immediately. Yeah. He runs that show, he lets them think that he done, but he does. And he's my boy, I'm very proud of him. Wanna lift him on a pedestal and carry him through um probably London. Because I think they would look at him and they'd be like, Oh, you know, there's a big bloke.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, probably would. I thought you added more to that then, no, I thought I'd leave it there for comedic effect.
SPEAKER_04Yeah.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Brilliant. Thanks, Ginge.
SPEAKER_04Next all the way through London on a massive stone pedestal, and the only comment is he's a big bloke.
SPEAKER_06We'll just carry on with the day. A long way to go, London from Farmington as well.
SPEAKER_04It's a big carry just to get there, to be honest with you. Oh, yeah. It's not a little carry, it's a big carry.
SPEAKER_06Very big. Next up, we have well, we used to call him the Lord of Darkness, Harvey Retro, but now you see him at his work and podcast studio and on his YouTube channel, and he now just looks like a very gorgeous UK movie star. He looks so he's been to Hollywood, he's got the glasses, he's got the hair, you know, he is one fine damn looking man.
SPEAKER_04And he's a very he's a very competent and generous lover.
SPEAKER_06Okay, uh, thank you, Harvey Retro.
SPEAKER_04I mean, we've given him every other compliment under the sun. I don't think we've ever been there, so let's just get that cleared up. I want to want to know that he's he's he's not just all smoke and mirrors, he's got fire.
SPEAKER_06Well, well, you've destroyed me on this, so you might as well just carry on to the end now. What this is an absolute clip fest. It's gonna be gonna be real after real this week.
SPEAKER_04Well, I want to take the time just to say thank you to Emma Sharp. Um, she's our only female supporter, and we're very grateful for her. She's redressing the balance of the sexes, uh, and she also does so much to promote the show, wearing a shirt out and about, going to different countries. Um, we appreciate you, Emma. Hope you're having a great day, and thank you for all you do.
SPEAKER_06Yeah, thank you, Emma. Um, next up, I managed to get hold of him. I got a message back from him, and I messaged him originally and just said, Are you on the steps of Yaztec? And after a few days I got a reply, and I think this is moving us nearer, George. He replied, Nope, and I'm nowhere near Berlin.
SPEAKER_04Right, okay, so we'll have to ask him now.
SPEAKER_06Is it the bottom of the steps?
SPEAKER_04If which part which north, south east, or west steps did you ask about?
SPEAKER_06Oh, north steps.
SPEAKER_04So now text him to see if he's on the south steps. Leave it with me. And then we'll do east and west. Yeah, okay. We'll keep that format as we spread out across the whole globe. I think that's a good stuff.
SPEAKER_06I'm hoping in about ten years we've narrowed down a one mile squared area that he isn't. So that's a good point.
SPEAKER_04So we can say he's nowhere near like Bolivia.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. So we're getting there. So yes, thank you, Greg, and no anybody.
SPEAKER_04Up next, the greatest new catchphrase the show's ever had. Mumsy. Let the sun hit it. Thank you for your support.
SPEAKER_06Yep. What he said. Um then we have the RGT fan club. Thank you as always. Very loyal. Stop doing that, George. Because one day when we have the camera on both of us, you'll forget. I've told on you.
SPEAKER_04This sounds like a desperate child who's been naughty all morning and caught red-handed by his mumsy, just trying to get the heat off himself a little bit by making up stories about his sibling. Yep. If I'm going down, you're coming with me. Well, based on that, the scene right through it. Tell you someone else who's seen right through it. Pete Brocklehurst, he saw right through your paper thin lies. He's already on his way to the he wants to arrive in style. He wanted to arrive on a moped to deck you on the chin, something which I doubt you'll survive. Um, but he's now on his way to the local second-hand motorbike dealer to see if he can find an appropriate two-wheeled stallion. He said to me, probably gonna take a couple of weeks to wire the money in from Switzerland, so tell him not to go anywhere. RGT don't go anywhere. Pete Brocklehurst is on his way on an appropriately selected steed.
SPEAKER_06I look I look forward to it. Bring it on, Pete. Yeah, bring it on, Pete, because uh you won't get very far past the gate because got my little mate standing outside the gate. Little old Bill. Little old Billy Marmite. So uh you want to take on that little tear away? Why you go? So he's now officially my bodyguard. Um so I'm gonna have little Bill run with me round town, just keeping an eye out, just in case. So uh thank you, Billy Marmite.
SPEAKER_04Do you know what I love about Hardman RGT is oh mate, it's it everyone rewind 20 seconds and I did do that a bit.
SPEAKER_06I did go a bit. I got a little, I don't know why you make me sound like a cockney, but yeah, I've got little Bill outside. Yeah. Little Willy.
SPEAKER_04Yep. Little Willy. William Yeast Extract. What's he up to? Did I say that correctly? Because it it felt like it sort of hung in my mouth a bit too long, and I maybe said yeast extract.
SPEAKER_06It did sound like you were trying to say like a Russian name or something, but okay.
SPEAKER_03That happened, did it? Okay.
SPEAKER_06William Yastracht.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_06You sound like Borat, yes, Kabash. Yeast extract.
SPEAKER_03We will thank him.
SPEAKER_06Yes. Right.
SPEAKER_04So I'm gonna do a geef. And I'm gonna guess the geef. You're gonna tell me what it is, okay? Are you ready?
SPEAKER_06Yeah, come on. Oh, this is starting a bit powerful.
SPEAKER_01That's that's made me feel very uncomfortable with that.
SPEAKER_06Because not only did I hear it, I watched it. That's that's a very upset, Geef. I'm probably going for when you realise what the actual PS6 price is. Oh, very do you know what? It's close. You're excited for that PS6, and then underneath that went RRP, and you and you were just mid-geef as you saw the price, so you were crying.
SPEAKER_04You've gone from hot to very cold, okay. You were close. I'll tell you what it was. It was I'd bripped my flesh trench. But at the same token, it kind of twinged my Vegas nerve and set me off. So very, very close to what you said. I mean, probably 80% of the way to that. So, yeah, another successful run on the O'Teaf guessing by you and I. So, yeah, happy days.
SPEAKER_06Yeah. Yeah, that was that was a good one. Well done. This has been an odd show this week.
What We Play Next
SPEAKER_06Suppose we better do what we're hoping to play.
SPEAKER_04Oh, yeah. Well, why don't we? So, what have you been playing? What are you hoping to play?
SPEAKER_06I was gonna say, well, hold on, we're doing another show.
SPEAKER_04Let's reboot, let's go again from the top.
SPEAKER_06Um, obviously, get Zenoblade done. I will get it done this week. Um, I've lost it. Why don't you take it portable, let the sun hit it? Good idea. Um, and then I've got like I say, I'm doing a couple of in gems at the moment, so I will play some bits on those. Then I will try and get a vote up for our next gen 7 game because I fancy playing something PS3 Xbox 360-wise. So we'll have a look and get that up this week. So hopefully something there. But also, if I finish Xenoblade Chronicles, I need the next big game to play, preferably Switch. So give me some suggestions in the Discord or comment on this video, let us know. I fancy like another big adventure, so yeah, just let us know. But yeah, I think it's probably whereabouts where I'll be. What about you, George?
SPEAKER_04Um, well, from here on in, I'm hoping to play an exclusively Indiana Jones, probably a bit of Mario Wonder for a bit of family entertainment. Um, other than that, I'll probably just sort of sneaking around on Final Fantasy VIII. So, yeah, that's uh nice and simple, does it allied?
Final Thanks And Sign Off
SPEAKER_04Um, and that's all we have time for this week, listeners. As always, thank you for your time. I look forward to the pleasure of speaking to you again next week. Until then, happy gaming. And remember, there's nothing wrong with being given the unofficial controller, it's what you do with it. See you on GT. Ladies,
