What type of intranet works best with an employee app?
The whole trouble with the intranets space and like discussing it and understanding it. Is there a lot of these uh, couplets that come in where they used one word intranet, but it's actually combining like to usually two ideas and usually in a bad way. So sharepoint is the first example. This sharepoint intranet comes in this couplet of document management system plus the shop window layer, the comms intranet and it doesn't work well because SharePoint's good at the first part. It's historical origins and it's not good at the communications part. The second part of the next big couplet in intranet is social intranets as they're called. And social intranets combine the communications were often together with collaboration tools, which is a whole nother adjacency of like tools to help you get work done, tools to help, uh, an actual team of five people to do stuff.
Um, and the problem with that couplet is that especially when you get out of SMB and you get into the enterprise, they have a collaboration tools that are even better than these companies that are social intranets can possibly build. It's just you can't be best of breed at both of these things. The communications intranet and the collaboration tools and an enterprise context. Frankly, everyone's on office three 65 anyway, so when you come in and you're saying, I'm a social intranet, you should buy me. You're, you're running into this exact investment problem that we were talking about before that the CIO and the CEO say, Oh, you know, we're investing so much in the Microsoft stack already. We have collaboration tools are ready so we don't need that investment. So they throw the whole thing out. As a result. The couplet you could think of if you conceive of staff base and, and our industry of the mobile first, but we're really the only ones I think that that see the full picture of this as yet another coupler and the couplet in this case is the half of the sharepoint intranet and it's the half of the, um, of the social intranets that the collaboration intranets which, which refers to just the, the desktop communications experience that actually works.
Pages that look great on a desktop computer that you can use to communicate things. Combining that with the branded employee app and it's that the merger of those things together with like the right vision of connectivity to the collaboration suite activity to sharepoint, that's the magical where the puck is going picture. And so the, the reason the whole thing is so confusing is because when you say sharepoint intranet, you mean these two things. When you say social intranet, you mean these things. And we talk about the staff based front door intranet or the staff base. Mobile first communications platform or mobile first intranet is actually two other things. And I think that's why the whole space gets so confusing and muddled up.
