What is Gamification with an employee app?

Gamification, I think as as like a thing that grows out of some research and some studies that suggest, suggested that when certain content was put in the form of a game versus just putting some other consumable noninteractive format, that it was stickier, the people remembered it better, you know, higher retention on, on the information and so on. I think that's the root of this idea that's taken storm, um, at companies that, you know, oh, gainification maybe that's a way, if we're more gamified, like the research suggests maybe that will make what we're doing stickier. It'll make our communications more engaging to employees. Uh, and indeed we do see that at staffbase, but not always in the way that our prospects think about it when they come to us. Let me say more. When prospects talk about Gamification, they think they want to turn the entire employee communications experience into one giant game.

Uh, or as some other players in our space do. They come from the land of, uh, advocacy where you're sort of using your employees as advertisements for the company. And so you can build gamification around, you know, how many shares and likes does one employee get on some company content versus another. And that that's gamification of a certain kind. What we see really works with gamification is not trying to turn the entire thing into a game that feels a little bit gimmicky, but rather that you use the concept of a game which is getting people excited about two things, competition and winning something. So where we see, for example, like really high our readership and engagement metrics at our customers is around contests. Anything where there's a prize to be won. So this could be, I dunno, a Halloween costume photos, cute dog pictures, vacation photo competitions, um, things like this that can be really popular, high performing content, especially if there's something, uh, you know, prizes to be won.

Um, we also have a number of features that help you do gamification on some particular thing. So we have a quiz plugin where you could create a quiz about company culture or as we do, um, we have an advent calendar around the holidays where it asks a bunch of questions about company Lore and people try to guess the answers. Um, so you have gamification as a way to, to engage employees when what you're doing is thoughtful, uh, when it's interesting for employees, then definitely it gamification is great. Uh, but when it's more gimmicky, when it's more about using the employees in some way, then in our experience it's a little bit more empty.
