Show Notes Transcript Chapter Markers

As the sun cast an otherworldly shadow during the recent solar eclipse, my son Zach and I were each swept up in the awe of the experience, I at a solar party and him plunged into darkness at the ballpark. We share these moments and more, like the thrill of baseball's return. Hear how the Syracuse Mets have woven themselves into the very fabric of our family tapestry, right down to the matching apparel we sport with pride. Zach's commitment to his health, through a consistent fitness regime at the Y, also surfaces, grounding our discussion in the values that matter most to us.

Nostalgia is a powerful force, and it takes center stage as we wander through the corridors of our family history, revisiting the transformation of our spaces and the baseball memorabilia that marks our journey. We reflect on how the Syracuse Mets and Washington Nationals are more than just teams—they're vessels of our shared experiences, from the playroom to the game room, from childhood to the present. Connecting with our listeners, whose stories from places as diverse as England and Texas echo our own, we celebrate the sports traditions that link us across miles and generations.

And a bit of humor and warmth. Zach's updates, sprinkled with anecdotes from school days to favorite TV shows, bring a smile as we debate talk show hosts and plan for upcoming adventures, including a camping trip that promises laughs and relaxation. A special mention of our upcoming guest on the Skip Happens podcast, Jeff Galko, hints at the community ties that enrich our lives. So sit back, plug in, and relive the memories and laughter with us—it's about cherishing the moments as it is about looking forward to the next play.

I don't get it. No, there is no season to podcasting. Podcasting goes all year long, it does. It goes like every day, every month. I mean not that we do it every day, so I'm sure we do it again in a couple of weeks, but, yeah, so it, just you know, keeps going. So, zach, how are you?

Speaker 2:

I'm good.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, How's life man?

Speaker 2:

Good yeah.

Speaker 1:

Pretty awesome. Hey, we had a good day today. We got a lot to talk about, you know, because, of course oops, sorry, that was just my phone we had the eclipse. Yeah, remember how cool was that? Back on, uh, the sun and moon. The moon gets in front of the sun yeah and what happens when that happens?

Speaker 1:

it got really darker. It got darker, it did it got darker. Yeah it, it's very cool, very cool. So that was the eclipse. Where were you for the eclipse? Oh, you were at the ballpark. Yeah, I was at the um, a solar party on solar street.

Speaker 2:

Wow.

Speaker 1:

A radio station thing. But uh, you were at the ballpark with your mother, with mom.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And uh, did it get really dark there? Yeah, yeah, and all the lights like came on and all that yeah but it was only for what? A short time yeah about a minute and a half. That's all the solar eclipse. How cool was that? That's good. It was good, yeah, but it was really cool, right, because who would have? I don't know. It's just, it's not going to happen again for, like I don't know, a whole, like 20 years, maybe even longer. No, I think it's 20 years 20 years.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's a long time. That's a long time. So what's going on? You're doing good. Everybody's chiming in already Mike Mitchell got Gary Karpinski and, of course, sean and Katie Lynn. Huh, yeah, yeah, we kind of dig into the uh, the life of zach um but uh, yeah, what's up with your life, buddy?

Speaker 1:

what's going on? Yeah, yeah, so, um, we, we had the eclipse. That baseball is back. Yeah, yeah, and you've been at all the games. Have you had a chance to work yet at the ballpark? Yeah, you did, yeah, so what did you do? Tell everybody what you did at the ballpark. You did the scoreboard. Okay, that's kind of cool in the walk-ups, so you work in the press box.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you do. And who works in the press box with you?

Speaker 2:

I do, anthony.

Speaker 1:

Anthony, and of course, you got Nick, the PA announcer. Jake, well, I wasn't there when you were working, yeah, but no, I was there today, because this is what we did today. If I can get this to go, go ahead when you're ready.

All right, you got your Mets socks on. Yeah, yeah, okay. So that's probably why they had a doubleheader today.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

And they won the first game. I was on PA for the first game, but not the second game. The second game we came home because the forecast wasn't looking that good. But you know what they lost. You know why they lost Because we came home. We gave them bad luck.

oh, chocolate shake chocolate shake yeah I know I like the chocolate ice cream sodas. I don't think they make a lot of those. I'm probably the only one that goes and asks for one of those. But mom got a sundae Hot fudge with the cherry on top, but no nuts. She's not a fan of the nuts. No, believe me, I know. All right, 2019.

Speaker 2:

Wall of Fame, yeah, 2019. In 2019, 2019. Wall of Fame. Wall of Fame, yeah, 2019.

Speaker 1:

In 2019, the Wall of Fame at the ballpark? Yeah, so tell us about that.

Speaker 2:

So go Me Day mom.

Speaker 1:

Oh yeah, that's right, we're on the Wall of Fame, yeah, yeah. So if you go to the ballpark and you get off the elevator on the concourse level, if you look straight ahead, you're going to see the wall of fame and that's where they put pictures of the fans of the year and it's kind of cool, all right. And zach's picture is up there, so you'll see it, you'll see us. Yep, you'll see zach. So when you get off the elevator, look straight ahead and there it is on the wall. Don't say I didn't tell you, because it's there. And Scott Gray says hello, hello, scott. Scott Gray says you like chocolate twisted? That's good too, all right, what else do you got?

Speaker 2:

OK, guys, dad. I'm a mom, dad married mom.

Speaker 1:

Dad married mom. Yes, do you know what year? No no 1996., 1996., Yep, yep, and do you know where mom and dad got married? This is like a podcast of our lives. It's all about Zach and you know, but basically that's what we do. And if you listen to me on the air on the Wolf, I do talk about my life a lot and I talk a lot about this guy and that's what it's all about.

Speaker 2:

But that guy we are still in the years but Wolf and moving.

Speaker 1:

Wolf and moving before that, look at you. And where did I work before then?

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

What radio station was before moving? Uh, no, they were in the same building at the time, but uh, their radio disney is no longer around. Uh, not in that way anyways, I really don't know if they're around at all. Um, but I worked at b104, which yeah, they4 yeah, yeah, which was country? Yeah, but the wolf, wolf, locally owned, operated hometown. We're live, it's so cool, yeah, so cool, all right, zach what else you got okay, I miss eba you miss eba my god reba.

Speaker 1:

Yeah reba, there was reba reba miley reba in the 90s? Yes, yeah. And then who was after reba?

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Nike 2020. Nike got sick yeah.

Speaker 2:

And.

Speaker 1:

We've got a new dog, rossi, and there's a story about Rossi, yeah, and he's named Rossi, a guy that I work with. His father had. Well, actually, bob lost his mom and dad, or lost his mom first, and the dog was named Rossi after his mother that was her maiden name but Bob's dad they got him a yellow lab as a companion. That's when they named it Rossi. It got to the point where it was very difficult for him to take care of Rossi. So this whole work relationship I offered to take Rossi because we didn't have a dog and we've been a dog family all our lives. It took Rossi in and, uh, giving them a lot of love. I'm going to keep the name Rossi the whole nine yards.

Speaker 1:

And just two days ago Bob's father passed. So and I I I believe that dogs know that when it happens, because that day Rossi was very, very quiet. But we have Rossi here at our house and just our condolences to the Adams family, bob Adams and his father passing. His mother had passed a while ago, but that's the situation. So now we have Rossi, who's a four and a half year old yellow lab who loves to eat laundry, anything that's laying around. We have to close the doors. It's crazy. It's crazy. But you know what? He's getting a lot of love, he's getting a lot of walks, he's a great yellow lab and he's going to have a great life, absolutely so. That's Rossi, right.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, you love Rossi right. Yeah, yeah, you love Rossi right. Yes, yes, and Rossi loves you. I can tell it already. He comes into your bedroom and puts his head up on your bed.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, how sweet. Okay, but yeah.

Speaker 2:

I miss Miley. My mother was bad.

Speaker 1:
