In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus uses two metaphors to describe His followers: "Salt of the earth", and "Light of the world". The world cannot taste and see the goodness of God if we aren't salt and light. We must engage the culture, promote Biblical values, speak the truth (in love) and tell people about Jesus where and whenever we can - this is being salt and light.
