Rev. Megan Snell Sermons

The Gospel of Luke (S3, Ep 6): The Fire of the Gospel, Rev. Megan Snell

Rev. Megan Snell Season 3 Episode 6

Does our world feel more divided than ever? Does Jesus always speak of peace? In today's scripture and sermon Jesus names that his presence and ministry actually brings division.

From the sermon: "This is a time in society and culture in which it is hard to find a space that isn’t filled with divisiveness. The media, the political climate, the Thanksgiving table with extended family, the lawn signs in our own towns and neighborhoods. Everywhere we look we can see division.

And into this division of our present day lives, the lectionary text for this week, from the Gospel of Luke, which we have been focusing on in worship, speaks words from Jesus that can feel at first glance like more division."

"...And so, into the divisiveness of our present day lives-- the Revised Common Lectionary serves us this text that can really challenge some of our notions of who Jesus is. This is not the text in which he comforts softly, this is a text in which he challenges passionately. This is not a text that speaks to a gentleness of faith. This is a text that calls forth a reality of what it means to follow the Gospel. That in doing so, we encounter division. "

This is the sixth sermon in our series on "The Gospel of Luke" here at the Nahant Village Church.
