Boost For Our Heroes

This week we honor those who support our Boost For Our Heroes program. This program would not be possible without those that come out to the annual Boost For Our Heroes Golf Classic here in sunny San Diego! 

Boost for our Heroes is a financial assistance and education program that benefits military members, veterans and their families. This program provides a variety of workshops, outreach efforts, and one-on-one consultations to help men and women experiencing a financial hardship become financially stable. Because of these obstacles, the Boost for our Heroes program also provides a quarterly award of $3,000 to a military member or military family. Each quarter, an impartial panel selects one recipient based on financial hardship and subsequently works with the recipient to develop an integrated financial plan. The funds for this program come directly from this event.

Hello everybody and welcome to a special edition this week, it's not gonna be our typical discussion. Uh, and and that's because well Felipe, but we have been up to our eyeballs in golf.

Golf Week at the SDFLC. And it is the one fundraiser that we have every year for our Boost for our Heroes program, which is an incredibly beautiful program. It's our eighth annual. And, uh, it's been very successful and it single handedly funds that program.

Felipe Arevalo: 1:12

Absolutely. I think it's a great program. It's, I tell people when they win all the time, it's my favorite call I get to make every quarter when we finally have the committee has selected a Boost for Our Heroes winner. And I get to call them and tell'em they're gonna get that$3,000 award. And, uh, it, it's really a cool program that we have. And, and I love it. I happen to like golf, which is an added bonus, uh, to, you know, we have some cool golf courses here in San Diego, and, but we have a lonely, It's okay. We can, we can golf in November too, so.

Yes, We can. The weather, not we're, we're gonna get lucky. Well, not, we're not gonna get lucky. We can, we can only get unlucky, uh,

Yes. Pretty good rain, uh, coming our way, uh, which a bit scary, but we're gonna be in good shape. It's gonna be a beautiful, uh, typically when we have had this tournament, it's been a little hot. Uh, it's not gonna be, it's gonna be beautiful golf weather,

Great golf weather, great day to be outside and should be maybe a little overcast so it'll get good lighting for the pictures too.

It<laugh> it will<laugh>. It will be, It'll, it'll be good for the, the pitchers, uh, pictures. That is, that is, that is very, very true. Uh, but I'm super excited. Uh, you know, it's been a tumultuous year for me. It's been very difficult, uh, personally. Uh, but this is something, even though the work that goes into it, um, it is a fun, fun tournament. And man, we, we would be nowhere with this if it weren't for our longtime sponsors like the Bank of Southern California. Um, Scott Yates.

That's right. Get to see, It's not too far away from my daughter's volleyball club. So<laugh>, uh, that's fantastic. Uh, we're excited to have them, uh, as well. And then our parent company Debt Wave Credit counseling, uh, who, you know, Charlie or Mike Marsden and the crew, and they, they sponsor all of our drinks and water, uh, and the, a few of the light beer beverages. Uh, Travis Matthew is amazing every year that they're out there. Uh, can't wait for that. And Felipe the one I think, and I know that you're gonna be into as Big Ed's good vodka is gonna be out there as well. And they've got a line of vodkas that are very, uh, military themed, so they're gonna have that out there as well. So we're super excited about that.

Nice. It should be fun. And we got, uh, all kinds of things going on on the golf course, uh, for golfers. We have the hole in one competitions, the closest to the pins, and, um, you know, that should be fun. Plus we got the golf ball cannon

Oh, the Cannon shot. Yep. Yeah, that's gonna be fun. People have, can win all kinds of prizes to had a, there's a closest to the pin with the cannon too. You can shoot the cannon up to 300, I think it's 400 and some yards, that hole, uh,

That people are gonna be aiming towards. And then of course, we got our buddy TrackMan, Jeff Goldstein, who's been with us every year. Uh, he's gonna be out there on 18 and he's gonna be looking and analyzing our swings, uh, uh, being able to get our distance, our, our, the arc that we have on the ball, the spin rate, everything else. It's pretty amazing stuff

As a, as a, uh, subpar golfer that I am, the cannon sounds way more exciting than the TrackMan<laugh>.

Yeah, absolutely. And even though they're not gonna be golfing this year out on the course, North Island Credit Union is going to be out there. They're gonna be doing our poker game. Uh, they're, they're gonna be giving out information, uh, and we're excited to have them as well.

Yeah, it should be a fun day. You can always, we'll be out there. I'll be out there, I'll be out there tweeting. I'll be out there doing the Instagram thing, Facebook thing. So I'm gonna be very active on Monday.

I am. I, it photography has been a, uh, hobby on and off for of mine, so it's actually kind of fun. Although, um, my, I'm, we'll see what my phone could do.
